Nihil ex nihilo, omnia in omnia.Nulla si crea, nulla si distrugge,tutto si trasforma. Il riuso è il cambio di destinazione di un oggetto non più utile alla funzione per cui è nato. Già applicato agli interni di casa il termine prende le forme di arredi e accessori riciclati, fatti con materiali che possono essere recuperati, come la plastica, l’acciaio, l’alluminio e il legno. È l’ecodesign: una nuova branca del disegno industriale che coniuga tutela dell’ambiente, sostenibilità ed estro creativo. Una tendenza, oltre che un imperativo per la sopravvivenza del pianeta, con cui Ummagumma si confronta nel campo della moda ricreando, riassemblando e reinventando oggetti nuovi, unici e contemporanei utilizzando come materiale base la camera d’aria dei pneumatici. Naturale, vivo, versatile, il caucciù della camera d’aria unito ad un componente di derivazione industriale come il butile, presenta particolari caratteristiche di robustezza, elasticità e impermeabilità. Con l’uso può trasformarsi, ammorbidirsi, mutare, “invecchiare” alla stessa stregua delle pelli. Il progetto, attraverso il recupero di materiali di provenienza “gommistica” e l’utilizzo di pellami pregiati e accessori usualmente impiegati nella pelletteria di qualità, coniuga l’organizzazione di un vero e proprio ciclo di produzione industriale con la cura e l’attenzione tipiche del prodotto artigianale made in Italy per portare il riuso oltre i ristretti limiti dell’artigianato alternativo.

Recycling is all about giving new function to things that have outlived

their original use. Materials like plastic, steel, aluminum, and wood can

all be recovered and put to precious new application inside the home.

Eco-design is an offshoot of Industrial Design that combines respect for the

environment, sustainable growth, and creative fantasy.

More than a passing fashion trend, Ummagumma’s re-assembly and reinvention

of old tire inner tubes into uniquely contemporary new objects points straight to the

planet’s survival. What’s more, naturally lively and

versatile rubber - when combined with butyl - shows amazing characteristics

of strength, stretch, and is 100% waterproof. And with prolonged use,

rubber even softens and “ages” as gracefully as the fi nest leather.

By recovering materials from the tire repair trade and using high-quality hides and

accessories usually employed in top end leather ware, the Collection combines the organization and precision of an industrial production cycle

with the passion and care so distinctive of Made in Italy craftsmanship to take valuable

materials otherwise destined to scrapping far beyond the limits of rudimentary

or “alternative” handicraft.

Fausta Zambelli, è nata e vive a Padova

con i due figli, un marito e un cane.

Diplomata in lingue, ha lavorato nell’azienda di ricostruzione industriale

di pneumatici fondata nel 1919 dal nonno paterno imparando a conoscere

ed apprezzare le caratteristiche e le straordinarie peculiarità della gomma.

In seguito, dopo aver fatto per una decina d’anni “solo” la mamma, ha

iniziato a cercare un modo per liberare la propria creatività partendo da

un’intuizione: trasferire la profonda conoscenza dei materiali gommosi

e la passione sviluppata nel settore, tradizione e quasi eredità familiare, in un ambito più vicino alla propria

sensibilità e gusto femminili. Nasce così Ummagumma,

“gommista” visionariae creativa, designer, stilista e artigiana che trasforma le

camere d’aria in borse, cinture, sandali, scarpe, vasi e altri

complementi d’arredo.

Fausta Zambelli was born in the city of Padova,

where she lives with her two children,

husband, and dog.A former student of foreign

languages she learned to understand and admire the surprisingly extraordinary

properties of rubber while working in the tire recapping

company founded by her paternal grandfather in 1919. After dedicating the next ten

years exclusively to her family, Fausta thought of a way to

develop her creativity on an ingenious hunch: transfer her

family’s legacy of knowledge and know-how in rubber

materials to a sector much closer to her own particularly

feminine sensitivity and taste. This was the birth of

Ummagumma, the visionary and creative “tire

repair woman”, designer, stylist, and artist who

transforms old inner tubes into shoulder bags, belts,

sandals, shoes, even vases and other items

of interior décor.
