Raccontaci di te. . .Sorrentino di nascita, ho ereditato dalla mia famiglia la passione per l’arte che mi ha portato ad investire tutto per il teatro, il cinema e lo spettacolo.I Mastellone sono impren-ditori nel campo dello spet-tacolo sin dagli anni ‘20 ed i valori più importanti che mi sono stati trasmessi da mio padre Luigi in questo lavoro sono soprattutto la passione e la spirito di sacrificio.I risultati non sempre sono immediati: bisogna saper attendere e crederci fino in fondo.Questi sono gli stessi valori che cerco oggi di trasmette-re ai miei figli.

Sei sposato?Hai bambini?Sono sposato da 15 anni con Lisa Cheruseo ed ho due figli: Luigi di 13 anni dj per passione e Francesca di 11 anni.

Raccontaci la storia del Fauno: chi è passato in questo storico locale?Il Fauno Notte fondato da Franco Jannuzzi negli anni ‘50 ha rappresentato un punto di ritrovo e di diver-timento sia per la discoteca che per lo spettacolo folk-loristico della tarantella per migliaia di sorrentini e turi-sti. Locale storico al centro di Sorrento sono passati per qui molti attori e registi fa-mosi e da qui Lucio Dalla ha mosso i primi passi col suo gruppo: I Flipper.

Luigi, in this work are above all passion and the spirit of sacrifice. The results are not always immediate: you need to be patient and believe to the very end. These are the same values that I try to trans-mit to my children today.

Are you married?Do you have children?I have been married to Lisa Cheruseo for 15 years and I have 2 children: Luigi 13, pas-sionate DJ and Francesca 11.

Tell un a little about the history of Fauno: who has frequented this historical venue?Fauno, founded by Franco Jannuzzi in the 50s repre-sented a fun meeting point both for the disco and the Tarantella folklore show for thousands of Sorrentines and tourists. Many famous actors and directors have passed through this historical venue and it was from here that Lu-cio Dalla took his first steps towards fame with his band The Flippers.

Why did you choose Beppe Riboli for the facelift of your club?My wish and my objective is to return Fauno to a time when this club was at its highest level and was favored by the top clientele both na-tional and international.It was for this reason that I chose to contact the Europe-an number one in the world of nightclubs: architect Beppe Riboli.

È per questo motivo che ho deciso di contattare il nume-ro uno in Europa come desi-gner del mondo della notte: l’architetto Beppe Riboli.Da subito con lui si è instau-rato un rapporto di amicizia e di stima.Una persona straordinaria, un professionista capace di stupire con la sua genialità. Una fortuna per me averlo incontrato.I lavori sono stati eseguiti perfettamente dalla socie-tà di costruzione Co.ge.ma s.r.l. di Aldo Mazzola che si è distinta in penisola per la se-rietà e la capacità di lavoro, e un grazie và ai suoi colla-boratori: il geometra Nunzio Esposito e Polimene France-sco che hanno seguito pas-so passo, minuziosamente in prima persona i lavori, af-fiancando con professionali-tà l’architetto Beppe Riboli e tutto il suo staff.

Cosa avrà di particolare il locale?Potremmo parlare di un lo-cale “polivalente”.Dalla discoteca al pianobar dunque, l’offerta abbracce-rà tutti i gusti e le esigenze. Ma il Fauno rappresenterà anche un punto di ritrovo, aggregazione e condivisio-ne per i giovani (e non solo).

Perché un sorrentino si mette a rifare un locale storico di Sorrento come il Fauno Notte?Il Fauno Notte ha sempre rappresentato un locale speciale nel mio cuore per-ché ad esso sono legati i momenti più belli ed indi-menticabili della mia giovi-nezza. Il Fauno è nel cuore dei Sorrentini ed è proprio nel cuore di Sorrento che si trova.

Questo è il messaggio che il bravo Creative Director Nicola Ratti, che affianca nei suoi lavori l’architetto Beppe Riboli e che seguirà le prossime iniziative, ha tra-smesso nella pubblicità per la nuova apertura.

Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri?L’apertura di un locale non è che l’inizio di un percorso. Ho gestito il Fauno per un lungo periodo, fino al 1998.Nel riproporlo mi rendo conto che il mondo della notte è molto cambiato.La mia idea è quella di ria-bituare i giovani a vivere la discoteca come un luogo dove incontrarsi e divertirsi con gli amici, un posto dove si passa la serata in allegria, ballando, corteggiando una donna, sorseggiare un drink di qualità ed uscire non stra-niati ma pronti per conclu-dere la serata in modo pia-cevole.Nei progetti c’è inoltre quel-lo di continuare il lavoro intrapreso col Teatro Tas-so, che attualmente è uno dei pochi teatri in Italia con più di 200 rappresentazioni all’anno del Sorrento Musi-cal, spettacolo che ogni sera coinvolge ed entusiasma il pubblico sia italiano che straniero.Lo show viene migliora-to ogni anno e portato in tournée anche all’estero facendo conoscere così le nostre tradizioni ad altri pa-esi; c’è poi un progetto per il Cinema Teatro Armida che spero possa realizzarsi al più presto.

What will be particular about this club?We can talk about a club which is polyvalent. From the discotheque to the piano bar, we will cater to all tastes and requirements. But Fauno will also represent a meeting point, getting together and sharing for young people (and not only).

Why has a Sorrentine de-cided to revamp a histori-cal venue in Sorrento like the Fauno Notte?The Fauno Notte has always been close to my heart be-cause the most wonderful and unforgettable moments of my youth are linked to it.Fauno is in the hearts of all Sorrentines and its right in the heart of Sorrento that you find it. This is the message

that fabulous Creative Direc-tor Nicola Ratti, whose works are aligned with Riboli’s and who will follow future initia-tives, has transmitted in the publicity for the new opening.

What are your future projects?The opening of a club is only the beginning of the voyage.I have managed Fauno for a long time, since 1998.In re-proposing the venue I re-alize that a lot has changed in the world of night clubs.My idea is to re-accustom young people to experienc-ing the club as a place to meet and have fun with friends, a place to spend a lively evening, dancing, chatting up a girl, sipping a quality drink end leave, not drunk but ready to finish the evening agreeably.In our projects there is also the continuation of works un-dertaken with the Tasso The-atre, which is currently one of the few theaters in Italy with more than 200 representa-tions a year of the Sorrento Musical, a show which cap-tures and enthuses the public, both Italian and foreign.The show in improved eve-ry year and is also toured abroad presenting our tradi-tions to other countries; there is also a project for the Ar-mida Cinema Theatre which I hope can be completed as soon as possible.

Manipola le geometrie e si prende gioco dei volumi, sem-plicemente, come dice lui, “Progetto Luoghi”. Beppe Riboli è una delle firme più innovative del design contemporaneo; vincitore di numerosi premi (tra cui, per sei anni consecutivi, quello di miglior progettista di locali notturni), è protago-nista di una monografia pubblicata da Skira, “L’Architettura della notte”. La ricerca progettuale, “nella logica del bello ed emozionante”, prende forma in clubs, hotel, ristoranti, con-cept stores, pensati per lasciare a bocca aperta.«Lo so, sono un visionario » dice di sè. Vive a Crema, in una casa-bottega del Seicento, avvolto dall’arte, tra affreschi an-tichi, schizzi e plastici su tavoli e pareti, dove «nel silenzio architetti ed artisti lavorano sui temi dell’architettura e del design, nella logica del bello e dell’emozionante». «Vivo un po’ in giro per il mondo, tra aerei ed hotel, Istanbul, Mosca, New York, Formentera, Napoli. Questa è la mia vita e quello che vedo mi piace ».È conosciuto come ‘il grande sovversivo del design italiano’: tra i suoi Concept recenti Affresco,“una boutique del gelato pensata come una galleria d’arte”, Rossopomodoro,”un Con-cept nella stazione centrale di Milano, un’ opera dedicata a Claes Oldeburg, una pizzeria-scultura”.

Manipulates geometry and plays with volumes, simply, as he says, “I plan places”.Beppe Riboli is one of the most innovative names of contem-porary design; winner of numerous awards (among which, 6 times winner as best designer of night venues), he is the subject of a monograph published by Skira, “architecture of the night”.The project research “the logic of the beautiful and exciting” takes shape in clubs, hotels, restaurants and concept stores en-visioned to drop jaws.“I know, I’m a visionary” he says of himself. He lives in Crema in a 1600s house-workshop, surrounded by art among antique frescoes, sketches and plastics on surfaces and walls where “in silence architects and artists work on themes of architecture and design, in the logic of the beautiful and the exciting”. “I live a bit all round the world, between airplane and hotel, Istanbul, Moscow, New York, Formentera, Naples. This is my life and I like what I see”.He is know as “the great subversive of Italian design” among his recent concept frescoes “an ice cream parlor conceptualized as an art gallery”, Rossopomodoro “a Concept in Milan Central Station, an opera dedicated to Claes Oldeburg, a pizzeriasculp-ture”.

Da poco ha inaugurato il Billionaire di Istanbul, per Flavio Briatore, «interamente basato su una rivisitazione degli sti-lemi architettonici dell’Oriente» .Quanto alla sua attività di docente a Naba, la Nuova Accade-mia delle belle Arti di Milano, Riboli spiega: «Mi piace l’idea di donare il mio sapere e la mia creatività ai giovani studen-ti, è un atto di riconoscenza verso la vita e verso Dio”. Tra i personaggi con cui ha incrociato la propria strada, Riboli cita fra i più geniali Alessandro Guerriero (creatore di Memphis, che lo ha voluto fortemente a Naba) ed Oliviero Toscani: «Un grande artista, vulcanico, con una visione delle cose unica e meravigliosa: è stato lui nel 1999 ad assegnarmi l’incarico di direttore del design a Fabrica di Luciano Benetton».A brevissimo, l’apertura della Discoteca Fauno Notte a Sor-rento. Dice Riboli “ Per fare un grande progetto è necessaria una alchimia particolare: la location, Sorrento una città ma-gica, la adoro, lo spazio, molto interessante, il committente, Maurizio, una persona straordinaria dalla sensibilità artistica molto forte”. Qualche anticipazione sul Progetto? “uno spa-zio complesso, a strati, dove convivono la logica del Club, dell’arena, dello spettacolo, con un attenzione particolare alla scenografia ed all’uso di tecnologie d’avanguardia”.

Riboli says “to create a great project there must be a particular alchemy: the location, Sorrenta is a magic city, i adore it, the space, very interesting, the commissioner, Maurizio, a fantastic person with very strong artistic sensitivities”.Any hints about the project? “a complex space, layered, whe-re the logic of the club, the arena and the show co-exist, with particular attention to scenography and the use of avantgarde technologies.”

Come nasceMax Zotti d. j. ?Inizia la mia passione per la musica e per la consolle nel 1985 ...dopo un anno diven-to resident di una piccola discoteca della mia citta’ per poi passare alla consolle del FAUNO NOTTE CLUB storico locale di Sorrento, meta di grandi artisti dello show bu-siness internazionale, situa-to sotto la Piazza centrale della citta’, dove e’ stata fatta la mia “gavetta “ per piu’ di dieci anni.

Tu suoni in tutto il mondo. Com’e suonare per i cine-si? Fai la stessa musica che faresti qua o cambi?Da piu’ di tre anni ,grazie ad una serie di Hit arrivate nel tempo, giro il mondo e ogni paese ha le sue tendenze musicali anche se io porto il mio sound indistamente dal luogo.

Qual’e la tua giornata tipo?Uno si immagina un famo-so Dj un po’ come un vam-

piro, si alza nel pomerig-gio, va a letto all’alba, tu invece?Com’e?A differenza dei vampiri di turno io da sempre sono una persona molto operati-va quindi sveglia la mattina alle 9 e inizio a lavorare con la comunicazione sul web per poi passare in studio di registrazione il resto della giornata a sperimentare e preparare nuovi progetti.

Discoteche luoghi demo-nizzati, polizia, patenti, punti, quale il tuo punto di vista?Personalmente sono per i controlli in generale volti alla sicurezza di tutti ma non condivido l’accanirsi sulla vita notturna come se fosse l’unica piaga sociale.

La tua esperienza come produttore, ci racconti?Da 20 anni circa mi occupo di produzioni musicali.Ho collaborato con le piu’ grandi label e major Italiane, da sette anni sono nel Team della Net’swork records ed e’ con loro che e’ arrivato il grande successo nel 2007 con il progetto diventato Hit mondiale “SIDEKICK - DEEP FEAR” che ha cambiato la mia vita artistica.In questi ultimi anni sono seguite varie Hit MAX ZOT-TI - SHIVER, MAX ZOTTI - KABIRIA - MAX ZOTTI - I’M A STARCHILD e una serie di remix per artisti interna-zionali del calibro di STEVE ANGELLO (SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA) - DEADMAU5 il tutto contenuto in una mia rac-colta da poco uscita.Attualmente sono impe-gnato in nuovi progetti con grandi collaborazioni che a breve presentero’ sperando di bissare i successi prece-denti.

Noi della notte.Che ne pensi della droga.E’ ancora oggi un reale pro-blema sociale che si espan-de a macchia d’olio.Da sempre sono contro ogni tipo di droga vivo personal-mente di sola musica e adre-nalina.

Com’e il tuo rapporto con il pubblico?Vicino o lontano?Il pubblico e’ da sempre il tassello piu’ importante del mio lavoro e mi piace essere molto vicino a loro condivi-dendo emozioni sensazioni e cercando di capirne i gusti musicali e le tendenze.

I tuoi artisti preferiti, nella musica, a cui fai riferimen-to?Sono tanti gli artisti che ap-prezzo e che influenzano la mia vita artistica, da sempre fan dei grandi artisti pop come MICHAEL JACKSON, MADONNA, STING, sono stato influenzato dall’inno-vazione dei DAFT PUNK, da fenomeni quali DEADMAU5 fino a darrivare a SKRILLEX, ma amando anche il jazz spesso sono immerso in ascolti dei grandi standard.

Max in privato. A casa?Rumore o silenzio?A casa assolutamente relax, mai silenzio, ascolto jazz - soul - e spesso sono intento in sperimentazioni musicali avendo un piccolo home studio recording.

Un consiglioai giovani d. j. ?Come sempre dico ci voglio-no centinaia di fattori tutti insieme oggi per avere risul-tati e successo ma quelli che sostengo da sempre sono la passione, la costanza, la-professionalita’ l’umilta’ e un pizzico di fortuna.

DJ MAX ZOTTIHow was Max Zotti DJ born?My passion for music and the console started in 1985 ...a year later I became resident in a little disco in my town before changing consoles to Fauno Notte Club, historic venue in Sorrento, target of great in-ternational show biz artists, situated under the central city square, where I had my first experiences for more than ten years.

You play around the world, what’s it like playing for the Chinese?Do you play the same set as here or do you change?For more than three years, thanks to a series of hits, I’ve worked round the world. Every country has its musical tastes even if I bring my own sounds regardless of the place.

What is your typical day? One imagines a famous DJ a bit like a vampire, getting up in the afternoon, going to bed at dawn, and you?Unlike your regular vampires I’ve always been operative, up at 9 0’clock to work on the web then off to the studios for the rest of the day to experiment with new sounds a prepare new projects.

Discos demonized places, police, licenses, points, what’s your take?Personally I’m for controls in general for the safety of eve-ryone but I’m against the at-tacks on night life as if it were the only social blight.

Your experience as produc-er, can you tell us?I’ve been involved in music production for 20 years, I’ve

worked with the biggest Ital-ian labels, for the last 7 years I’ve been on the team of Net’swork records and it was with them I had success with the worldwide hit “SIDEKICK-DEEP FEAR in 1997, which changed my life as an artist. In recent years I’ve had various hits with MAX ZOTTI - SHIVER, MAX ZOTTI - KABIRIA, MAX ZOTTI - I’M A STARCHILD and a series of remixes for inter-national artists such as STEVE ANGELLO (SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA) - DEADMAU5 all con-tained in a collection I’ve put together which has just come out. Currently I’m working on new projects with big artists which will come out shortly hoping to repeat previous suc-cesses.

What’s your take on drugs?It’s still a real social problem which is spreading fast, I’ve always been against drugs, living personally on music and adrenalin.

What’s your relationship with the public, close or dis-tant?The public is always the most important element of my work and I like being close to them sharing emotions, sensations and trying to understand the right music and trends.

Your favorite musical artist, your influences?There are lots of artists I appre-ciate and who have influenced my artistic life, Michael Jack-son, Madonna, Sting, I was influenced by the innovation of DAFT PUNK, DEADMAU5 and SKRILLEX, but being also a Jazz lover, I am often im-mersed in music of the highest standards.

Max in private.At home.Loud or silent?Absolute relax at home, never silence, I listen to jazz -soul and often musical experimen-tation having a little home re-cording studio.

Advice for young DJs?As always I say that hundreds of factors need to come to-gether today to have results and success, but I’ve always sustained passion, commit-ment, professionalism, humil-ity and a pinch of luck.

The Tarantella, as an expression of southern identity, has its ro-ots in the heart of Sorrento, finding there its most refined style.Many great writers are grounded in the Tarantella (we remem-ber among others Gioacchino Rossini with his “La Danza”) with the characteristic instruments of the partenopea musicality such as putipù, scetavajasse, triceballac, nacchere, tamburelli and others. . .Legend has it that its motion was used by Sirens to seduce Ulysses, signaling since the dawn of time the link between this dance and love and right in the land of these mythical creatures popular expression comes in contact with nobility, softening its more excessive aspects, rendering it noble.The dance divines pure joy, carrying the spectator through an idyllic world where grace and beauty govern and are reflected in every element, from the steps of the dance to the richness of the costumes.Courtship and refusal, quarrel and pacification unify to create a spectacle unique in the world.Fauno Night Club has been since its inception, a reference point for the impassioned and neophytes, a stop not to be missed therefore in the discovery of this union between folklore, cultu-re and love.

La tarantella, quale espressione dell’identità del sud, affon-da le sue radici nel cuore di Sorrento trovando lì la sua forma più raffinata. Moltissimi grandi autori si sono cimentati nella tarantella (ricordiamo tra gli altri Gioacchino Rossini con la sua “La danza”) e con gli strumenti caratteristici della mu-sicalità partenopea come putipù, scetavajasse, tric-ballac, nacchere, tamburelli ed altri…La leggenda vuole che le sue movenze fossero servite alle Sirene per sedurre Ulisse, segnando fin dagli albori lo stretto legame di questa danza con l’amore e proprio nella terra di queste creature mitiche l’espressione delpopolo trova contatto con la nobiltà, smussando i suoi aspetti più eccessivi, nobilitandosi.Il ballo diviene pura gioia, trascinando lo spettatore in un mondo idilliaco in cui la grazia e la bellezza governano e si riflettono in ogni elemento, dai passi di danza alla ricchezza degli abiti.Corteggiamento e rifiuto, litigio e riappacificazione si uni-scono a costituire uno spettacolo unico al mondo.Il Fauno Notte Club è fin dai suoi inizi un punto di riferimento per appassionati e neofiti, una tappa da non perdere dunque alla scoperta di questa unione tra folklore, cultura e amore.
