Maurizio DevescoviPresidenteFondazione Allianz UMANA MENTE
Inoltre, abbiamo messo in campo

- Minori e giovani: con l’obiettivo di aiutarli nel loro percorso di crescita, contrastando il loro disagio e valorizzando i loro talenti e desideri;

5. Sostegno all’istruzione e all’educazione L’istruzione è fondamentale nella formazione dei giovani, nel renderli uomini del futuro liberi e consapevoli. Eppure, in alcune aree del nostro territorio, l’accesso all’istruzione è ancora talvolta fortemente limitato.

IMPARIAMO DALL’ECCELLENZA E TUTORIALME

YOUTH IN ACTION

ILBORGOFELICE VENDEMMIANDO E RACCOGLIENDO INSIEME - EDIZIONE 2019

FOOD BANK IN ONCOLOGY

Inoltre, nel 2019 è stata pubblicata la ricerca “The Effects of Motorcycle Therapy for Children and Young People with Cancer” (Gli effetti della mototerapia sui bambini e giovani con cancro). Condotta dall’Ospedale Regina Margherita di Torino e divulgata sulla rivista Journal of Human Sport and Exercise,

costitutivo e dello statuto nonché sul rispetto dei principi di corretta amministrazione e funzionamento della Fondazione;
• abbiamo partecipato alle riunioni del Consiglio di Indirizzo e alle adunanze del Consiglio di Gestione, svoltesi nel rispetto delle norme statutarie, legislative e regolamentari che ne disciplinano il funzionamento e per le quali possiamo ragionevolmente assicurare che le azioni deliberate sono conformi alla legge e allo statuto sociale e non sono manifestamente imprudenti, azzardate, in potenziale conflitto d’interesse o tali da compromettere l’integrità del patrimonio della Fondazione;
• abbiamo acquisito conoscenza e vigilato sulle principali attività della Fondazione, non rilevando in tal senso alcuna anomalia;
• abbiamo valutato e vigilato sull’adeguatezza del sistema amministrativo e contabile, nonché sull’affidabilità di quest’ultimo a rappresentare correttamente i fatti di gestione, mediante l’ottenimento di informazioni dai responsabili delle funzioni e dall’esame dei documenti della Fondazione e, a tale riguardo, non abbiamo osservazioni particolari da riferire;

2019 Mission Report - Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation 76 2019 Mission Report - Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation
It gives me great pleasure to present the 2019 Mission Report and invite you to find out about the projects we have completed in the pursuit of our social mission: to improve the quality of life for the weaker sections of our society. A mission enhanced every year with important new goals that motivate and encourage us to continue to strengthen our presence.
As always, the Mission Report is a cornerstone of our relations with our stakeholders and an opportunity to share the progress we have made and the results we have achieved. The narrative set out in these pages is a
of the Allianz Group, the non-profit organisations and everyone involved on a daily basis in the projects mentioned above and those illustrated in the rest of this report.
Enjoy the read!

description of a collective commitment, written with a storytelling approach and accompanied by images with a strong visual impact and by testimonies from many of those involved. The format was widely admired last year and won the Foundation the prestigious “Oscar di Bilancio” financial reporting award, its fourth since 2001.
Turning to the initiatives realised in 2019, I want to mention first “Il giro del mondo in 50 piani” [Around the World in 50 Floors], a major social inclusion project which has been included in the Guinness World Records® in the category “Largest Stairwell Mural”. This formidable artwork has created the world’s largest mural along the stairs of a building, inside the Allianz Tower in Milan.
2019 was also marked by many new collaborations, which have consolidated and enhanced our identity. Most notably they include the role played this year by the Foundation of Main Donor for motorcycle therapy activities, which enabled us to bring a smile to the faces of almost 5000 children in hospitals and disabled people.
Another important cooperation agreement was set up with the Allianz Powervolley Milano team in the “volley4all” project, an initiative that uses volleyball to foster a truly inclusive sports culture that valorises all differences. All the matches played at the Allianz Cloud sports hall were preceded by a few minutes to raise awareness about social issues and by sports activities for people with disabilities.
In settings where educational levels are particularly weak, we continued our projects for young people to assist their entry into the job market. We also made new resources available to organisations working to prevent truancy and improve young people’s education.
For all these initiatives and much else besides, I have to thank the employees and volunteers

Corporate responsibility is an essential value underpinning our commitment and expressed in a company policy designed to reconcile economic interests with social and environmental interests. A practice intended to build a socially cohesive community that is fairer and more sustainable in economic terms.
In its role as a leader on the Italian insurance market, every day Allianz works to provide protection and safety for families and businesses and thus foster the growth of the communities and regions in which it is present. Its success is based on a business model whose focus is the client, the efficiency of the distribution network, the professionalism of its employees and agents. However, it also contributes to the improvement of civil society through activities that are socially oriented in the strict sense and founded on principles of corporate responsibility embracing everyone’s interests, in primis the interests of the weaker sections of society.

underpinning our commitment and expressed in a company policy designed to reconcile economic interests with social and environmental interests. A practice intended to build a socially cohesive community that is fairer and more sustainable in economic terms.
Our social commitment is achieved through the work of the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation, which supports or develops long-term projects in response to the emerging needs of society, not simply to provide assistance but to create employment opportunities, foster inclusion and social participation and also contribute to the development of the non-profit organisations with which the Foundation has been working on a daily basis since 2001.
Besides being a point of reference in the Italian philanthropic sector, during 2019, under the leadership of its President, Maurizio Devescovi, the Foundation went further and re-thought its mission, expanding it to act as a catalyst of resources and make the competences and experience built up over the years available to all our stakeholders, always with a view to setting clear objectives and reporting results in a transparent manner.
So this Mission Report is a dynamic document relating projects and stories of hope and achievement, high-impact initiatives to strengthen social cohesion and integration.
As always, significant coverage is given to the activities the Foundation conducts in cooperation with other Group bodies, demonstrating the positive synergies that can be generated through joint projects.
In this year’s Report, we particularly appreciated the alignment of the Foundation’s social projects with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, which has given the projects a broader scope.
So we renew our firm support for the work of the

but, rather, to provide them with tools so they can experience a decent and full life.
The Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation continued to work in its traditional areas of activity, congenital mental and/or physical disability (at any age) and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds (0-25 years), endeavouring to make the recipients of its activities feel in charge of their lives. On the one hand, we realised projects for people with disabilities to demonstrate that limits can become resources and that even a disability cannot prevent talent from emerging. On the other, we wanted to empower children and young people by offering them tools and opportunities to become the makers of their own destiny.
The 2019 Report provides a photograph of all this, recounting and sharing the unique story of each project, a story whose protagonists change but where the values of transparency, loyalty, sincerity, determination and
The mission of the companies in the Allianz Group is to safeguard the future of individuals and businesses by protecting them against risk and managing their assets.
In pursuing their objectives, they have relations with a variety of stakeholders: employees, distributors, clients, shareholders, civil society itself. With regard to civil society, the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation is an important resource for the Group; rather than simply disbursing funds to people in need, it strives to foster true social change through its work and its commitment.
The Foundation has always worked strategically to offer “philanthropy by the book”, but in 2019 it wanted to go further and propose “philanthropy without limits”, which would achieve what initially seemed impossible. So substance has become a distinguishing characteristic of the Foundation’s work: its goal is not simply to ease people’s problems
perseverance always shine through. These are the values that led the Foundation to win the FERPI Oscar di Bilancio financial reporting award in 2019, for its 2018 Mission Report, the fourth time it has received the award. The jury’s motivation reads: “The distinguishing feature of the Report is the description of the Foundation’s institutional activities with qualitative and quantitative information about the strategically oriented initiatives made possible by corporate philanthropy. Even for non-specialists, the reporting system conveys in an immediate, clear and “empathetic” way the value produced by the decisions and action of the Foundation, while maintaining rigour and completeness. The “storytelling” approach used to describe the projects, completed with ex post indicators, is particularly appreciated. There is also effective integration between institutional communication and reporting systems, making the Report’s content accessible through a variety of channels (newsletters, website, printed Italian and English version).”
The 2019 Mission Report was drawn up with “philanthropy without limits” as its leitmotiv. The illustrations are photos of the projects and describe effectively the activities realised during the year. For each project, the relevant United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are indicated. The SDGs are a series of 17 objectives agreed by the United Nations to resolve a broad range of economic and social development issues, such as poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender equality, water, hygiene and health services, energy, urban planning, the environment and social equality.
To enable readers to re-live this fantastic 2019, or live it for the first time, in addition to the Mission Report, a video has been produced: a narrative of words and images to make the viewer feel part of the activities and projects described in these pages, which are organised as follows. After the institutional messages, the first section of the 2019 Mission Report presents the Foundation’s identity and objectives.
The second section describes the Foundation’s governance, its integration with the Allianz
Group and provides an assessment of its impact. The third section, which illustrates the year’s operations, is subdivided into five sections, each covering a specific sector of action: the first is work placement, the second social agriculture, the third art and culture, the fourth sport, the fifth education and training.
The fourth section reports on the monitoring of the projects that are still underway and the follow-up on completed projects.
The fifth section sets out the financial statements and the report of the Board of Auditors.
This year once again, we particularly want to thank all the people who day after day, in their various ways and particular roles, contribute to the work of the Foundation.

2019 Mission Report - Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation 1514 2019 Mission Report - Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation
The Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation was formed in 2001 as the main expression of Allianz S.p.A.’s social responsibility, to help people in greatest difficulty and offer them a better quality of life.
The Foundation is active in the field of social assistance and works to provide practical, effective action by supporting important projects with a high social impact set up by Italian non-profit organisations.
At the same time the Foundation develops its own projects, in collaboration with other players in the non-profit sector and with companies of the Allianz Group.
Creating and then sharing value in order to improve the lives of people in difficulty, through the engagement and mobilisation of the largest number of stakeholders.
The Foundation has always focused on two categories of beneficiaries:
- Children and young people: to help them as they grow up by contrasting their disadvantages and enhancing their talents and ambitions;
- People with disabilities: to foster social inclusion and participation and implement all the conditions so that the disability is a resource, not a limit.
A number of “cross-sector” projects cover both categories of beneficiaries, empowering individuals and creating virtuous and constructive synergies.
“Philanthropy without limits” was the leitmotiv of the Foundation’s activities during 2019. The projects were designed to overcome all barriers and boundaries, enabling apparently unachievable dreams to be realised. All this was possible thanks to the methodological model the Foundation has always adopted: a functional synergy between method and passion, head and heart, where every aspect is evaluated by a MIND that is ruled by HUMAN reason.
ABOUT US
STRATEGIC GOALS
SECTORS OF ACTION
THE LEITMOTIV
OF 2019
“If you really want to help, actions speak louder than words”(Italian proverb)
During 2019, the Foundation focused its attention on sectors of action established by its guidelines, that is:
1. Work placement Knowing that work plays a fundamental role in the development of the individual’s identity and his or her realisation, the Foundation supported projects designed to facilitate the entry on to the job market of young people from disadvantaged social and family backgrounds, to enable them to achieve all the conditions for a more immediate transition into adult life.
2. Social AgricultureSocial agriculture is meant to be a tool to welcome, treat, train and integrate people at risk of exclusion. The projects supported in this area were designed to help disadvantaged individuals to integrate in society, in part through contact with local welfare policies.
3. Culture and art Art can be a means of expression that testifies the value of diversity, but it can also be a tool to educate, raise awareness and create empathy. In 2019 the Foundation supported many theatre companies or organised initiatives for these purposes.
4. SportSport is a preferential area for building peer relationships and sharing personal abilities, where the differences between disabled and non-disabled people can be reduced. The Foundation supported projects that valorise and use sport as a tool for integration and inclusion.
5. Support for education and training Education is fundamental in the development of young people, to make them adults for the future who are free and aware. Yet in some areas of Italy, access to education is still sometimes greatly limited. For this reason, the Foundation provided help for selected non-profit organisations to support the education and training of youngsters who live or have lived in difficult situations.

ASSESSMENTAND IMPACT
Over the years, the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation has consolidated a specific method to measure the changes generated by the projects it supports, which begins with a careful analysis of social needs and a detailed assessment of the organisation and its proposed project.
The partnership established with the non-profit organisations envisages managerial support and sharing of objectives. On a regular quarterly or six-monthly basis, the Foundation monitors projects to assess how they have benefited the users involved. At the end of the funding, the Foundation also assesses the sustainability and replicability of projects and their social impact. For some projects, the Foundation employs ad hoc assessment tools using a qualitative and quantitative methodology and involving other scientific partners if necessary.
In order to maximise its disbursement capacity and enhance its impact, the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation organises fund-raising initiatives and events through the philanthropic intermediary Italia per il Dono Non-Profit Foundation – F.I.Do.
FUND-RAISING INITIATIVES THROUGH PHILANTHROPIC INTERMEDIATIONTo help donors, the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation works with the Italia per il Dono Non-Profit Foundation – F.I.Do, a philanthropic intermediary active in Italy and abroad, established by the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation in 2014.

LEARNING FROM EXCELLENCE AND TUTORIALME
For a disadvantaged young person, the chance for an initial work experience is enormously important, it means regaining confidence in oneself, taking on responsibility, laying the cornerstone for a better future. Established in 2012 and now at its eighth edition, Impariamo dall’eccellenza [Learning from Excellence] is a project designed to enable disadvantaged young people with a talent, aptitude and a great passion for the hospitality industry to learn a trade in an environment of excellence, through a three-month traineeship in hotels and restaurants across Italy. On 27 November, at the end of the 2019 edition, the young people involved in the project took part in the Foundation’s annual Charity Dinner, where, under the guidance of executive chefs, they demonstrated the skills they had acquired by cooking for the guests and serving at table. As always, the Foundation monitored the program to assess the employment outcomes of the trainees who have taken part in the Impariamo dall’eccellenza [Learning
from Excellence] project since it began in 2012. 60% of the trainees answered a structured questionnaire: 87% of them are in stable employment in the hotel industry. In 2019, 64 young people took part in the project.

To create greater continuity with the goals of the Impariamo dall’eccellenza [Learning from Excellence] project, in 2019 the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation developed www.TutorialMe.it: an online platform combining training and employment facilitation. The platform is a valuable tool to stay in contact with the partner hotels and restaurants on the project, who can publish job vacancies and video tutorials. It is a quick and intuitive way to convey knowledge and passion to youngsters who want to continue working in the hospitality sector.
MAIN FIGURES FOR 2019
3youngsters who found work through TutorialMe
1,144users who visited TutorialMe
2,961 the number of times they returned to the website
178youngsters active on the platform
35outstanding hotels and restaurants registered on the platform
For disabled youngsters, the transition into adult life and subsequent entry on to the job market require special attention.
The key to a balanced transition lies in recognising the unique possibilities of people with disabilities, in understanding that “extra something” they possess. With the supervision of the Coordinating Body of Lombardy Universities for Disability, the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation decided to give TutorialMe a new mission: to facilitate the work placement of people with disabilities and foster a new approach to the work-disability relationship.

YOUTH IN ACTION
The Foundation’s collaboration with the Italian Accenture Foundation continued in 2019 on the Youth in Action project, to collect and reward the best project ideas to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations. The proposals have to be innovative solutions with a high social impact and must include a technological element.
This year more than 250 proposals were presented, of which 20 received an award. The Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation gave an award to Emma Zucchi, who presented a portal designed to create a bridge between the world of voluntary work and people in retirement. To enable the winner to implement her idea, the Foundation gave her the opportunity to conduct a traineeship in order to make the website – to be named VOLONTARIA MENTE – a reality.

ILBORGOFELICE HARVESTING AND GATHERING TOGETHER - 2019 EDITION
“Ilborgofelice vendemmiando e raccogliendo insieme” [Ilborgofelice harvesting and gathering together], now at its ninth edition, is a great opportunity for 30 people with disabilities to stay at the Allianz Group’s Borgo San Felice Relais & Châteaux and immerse themselves in nature. Over two long weekends, the youngsters take part in the grape and olive harvests, and in a variety of initiatives created to help them test their level of independence.
Every year, the Foundation reviews the organisation of the two sessions so as to offer new activities that will stimulate interest and also valorise the local excellences of the Siena area.
The new activities for 2019 were a medieval re-enactment and participation in the L’Eroica cycling event. In the popular imagination, Siena often conjures up pictures of turreted cities and deep rivalries. So the Foundation organised a re-enactment in typical medieval costumes.
After putting on their costumes, accompanied by drummers the
young participants went in a procession to Brolio Castle, an historic building that supported the Florentines against their rivals of Siena.
During the second session, the youngsters were spectators at L’Eroica, a cycling event that has been organised in the Siena countryside since 1997. L’Eroica takes vintage cycling as its theme; the participants use vintage bikes and clothing and cycle along largely unpaved roads.

L’Orto e l’aia nel Borgo [The Vegetable Garden and the Farmyard at the Borgo] project began in 2012 at Borgo San Felice thanks to the support of the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation and the collaboration of the Naturalmente Social Cooperative, the San Felice Farm and the Borgo San Felice Relais & Châteaux hotel. Regarded as a best practice for social participation and inclusion projects in agricultural settings, it has grown considerably since it was first set up: 6 disabled youngsters work on the land every day, the vegetable garden has been extended, a chicken run has been built to breed laying hens, four goats have been introduced and since September 2019 an Amiatina donkey helps the workers transport the produce to the Borgo’s restaurant kitchens.
A good level of personal independence is a vital requirement for the social and professional inclusion of young people and adults with disabilities. Independence is not just a question of building professional skills, it means feeling and recognising oneself to be grown up, from a “during and after us” perspective. With this in mind, in 2019 the Vi.Ve. project was set up, giving 8 disabled youngsters aged between 18 and 35 the opportunity to experience living away from their families in an apartment provided by the San Felice Farm. The project has been set up in collaboration with the Naturalmente Cooperative and the L’Arca 1 Cooperative.

An unforgettable evening in central Milan to bring great music to the public, a performance that transformed Piazza del Duomo into a concert hall beneath the stars, made possible by Allianz S.p.A., together with UniCredit. With this spirit, the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation took part in the event organised on the evening of 9 June for all citizens by inviting 10 youngsters from the Allegro Moderato Cooperative and 10 from the Martinengo Cooperative to watch the performance from the grandstand.
The youngsters also enjoyed an exclusive backstage tour of La Scala and watched a concert held in the theatre on 16 June.

AND CHARITY DINNER
The Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation Charity Dinner is now a traditional event for the presentation of the activities set up during the year drawing to a close and of initiatives being planned. The evening was held on 27 November on the 47th floor of the prestigious Allianz Tower in Milan, the headquarters of the Allianz Group. As usual, the event centred on philanthropy, gourmet cuisine and art, and hosted more than 170 guests from the philanthropic, managerial and entrepreneurial communities. Allianz was represented by the President, Claudia Parzani, the CEO, Giacomo Campora, and the General Manager, and President of the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation, Maurizio Devescovi, as well as numerous Group managers, agents and financial advisors.
At the end of the evening, the guests took part in the charity auction of the EsprimiamociAll! collection of artworks, hotel vouchers donated by the hotels taking part in the Impariamo dall’eccellenza [Learning from Excellence] project and other lots supporting the Foundation projects and social initiatives.
The courses were cooked and served by young people from the Impariamo dall’eccellenza [Learning from Excellence] project, under the guidance of a team of “multi-star” chefs: the Cerea brothers from the Da Vittorio Restaurant, Francesco Sposito from the Taverna Estia, Valentino Palmisano from the Vespasia Restaurant in Palazzo Seneca and Juan Camilo Quintero from the Poggio Rosso Restaurant in Borgo San Felice.

OTELLO CIRCUS
A show combining theatre and opera inspired by the works of Giuseppe Verdi and William Shakespeare, Otello Circus is the result of the collaboration between the La Ribalta-Kunst der Vielfalt Theatre of Bolzano and the Allegromoderato Orchestra of Milan, who wanted to develop an artistic and musical journey together to highlight their specific talents and “otherness”.
The show made its debut in 2018 and subsequently won the prestigious UBU award for dance and theatre. Given its success, in 2019 the Foundation decided to renew its support for the project, and enable the La Ribalta Theatre and the Allegro Moderato Cooperative to take Otello Circus on a national and European tour.
On 3 December, for International Day of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation organised an evening of movie screenings starring people with disabilities, at the CityLife Anteo Cinema in Milan. Three films were shown, focusing on the right of disabled people to be protagonists of their own lives and in society. Shorts and super-shorts were screened from the International Festival of New Cinema, which for years has presented cinema
interpreted and produced by people with disabilities; L’ultimo rimbalzo [The Last Bounce], a documentary produced by the Wheelchair Basketball Federation about the Italian team, with an approach focused on epic sport, and Detective per caso [Detective by chance], a unique film of its kind in Italy, which, although interpreted by actors with disabilities, does not focus on the theme of disability but on social issues, friendship, personal ambitions, all set in a police drama.

MOTORCYCLE THERAPY & FREESTYLE HOSPITAL
Mototerapia [Motorcycle Therapy] and Freestyle Hospital are two projects set up in previous years as a result of the intuition of the freestyle motocross rider Vanni Oddera and the ASD Vanni FMX Association. Mototerapia [Motorcycle Therapy] offers people with disabilities the chance to ride a motocross bike at outdoor public events, while Freestyle Hospital takes motorcycle therapy into hospital for children with blood cancers, to offer them some carefree fun.
In 2019, motorcycle therapy received a contribution from the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation, which became the Main Donor of the therapeutic activities of the freestyle motocross champion. As a result, the activities offered were enhanced with a variety of sports leisure activities, such as rides in a helicopter and a hot-air balloon, jet-skiing, biking, skating, pet therapy, agility dogs, riding, music and dance, water activities.
2019 also saw the publication of the research “The Effects of Motorcycle Therapy for Children and Young People with Cancer”. The research, conducted by the Queen Margherita Hospital in Turin and published in the Journal of Human Sport and Exercise, emphasised the positive link between motorcycle therapy and the general state
of health and psychological well-being of the patients studied.
In addition to these benefits, the researchers found a reduction in stress levels, in both the children and their families, and an improvement in their perception of their physical health and body image.

L’ultimo rimbalzo [The Last Bounce]is a documentary produced with the support of the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation, which recounts the adventures of the Italian wheelchair basketball team in their quest to qualify for the next Paralympics. The documentary is a bitter-sweet tale of a dream, a lost chance, because the team failed to qualify for the Paralympics, but it is also a story of growth and learning that shows how a defeat can help build a winning attitude.
At the first match held on 17 July, the new blue shirt of the Italian athletes with the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation made its debut. In 2019 the contribution of the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation helped the junior teams in the Italian Wheelchair Basketball Federation – FIPIC.

FROM DETECTIVE BY CHANCE TO SCHOOL WITHOUT BARRIERS
The contribution of the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation permitted the production of Detective per caso [Detective by chance], a movie interpreted by professional actors with disabilities that does not focus on disability, but on social issues, friendship, personal ambition, all set in a police drama.
The film was a great success and was presented at a number of national and international film festivals, winning awards and recognition. On 28 March it was screened for the employees of the Allianz Group in Milan and Trieste.
On the back of this great success, the Foundation supported the launch of a related project, Scuola senza barriere [School without Barriers], to take the accounts of the film’s actors to primary and secondary schools and raise students’ awareness of disability issues. The project also envisages the creation of a web-series to continue offering job opportunities to the actors. The series will retain the “police drama” genre, to give continuity to the Detective per caso [Detective by chance] experience.

The Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation supports the recreational therapy, which provides a wide range of enjoyable and relaxing activities intended for families and children with disabilities, a week in the Camp during which every second is a personal, constructive challenge in a non-competitive environment.

KIDS AREN’T VESSELS TO BE FILLED BUT FIRES TO BE LIT
In Italy one student in three fails to finish high school. In Lombardy alone, more than 30,000 youngsters are at risk, of whom more than 25% are of non-Italian origin. To combat this phenomenon, the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation supported the Portofranco Milano Association, a study assistance centre for secondary school students, which helps more than 1,500 students every year.
The project helps students in the Milan area discover their resources and improve the quality of their school experience, contributing to a reduction in truancy rates and troubled youth.

SAM’S HOUSE
The Corvetto district in south-east Milan presents a variety of social problems to which there is no easy solution: this is an area where financial and educational poverty can create troubled situations in families and those who pay the price are often the youngsters.
For this reason, the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation supported the Martinengo Cooperative in creating a new space and restructuring existing spaces in la Casa di Sam [Sam’s House], a day centre and meeting place, which has been operating for more than 10 years and has become a point of reference for young people and families in the area.

2019 Mission Report - Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation 7574 2019 Mission Report - Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation
For the Foundation, funding a project means working with the recipient organisation from the planning and development phase through to project execution.
Projects funded in previous years are monitored (quarterly or biannually) in order to make a correct assessment of their impact, check that their objectives have been achieved and that the budget has been followed. Any critical issues arising during the project are also analysed.

Description and general objectives
The project made it possible:
- to set up three laboratories for the transformation, processing and packaging of agri-food products at the Opera Don Guanella sites in Genoa, Lecco and Como;
- to create a new sales line;
- to provide training and assist the subsequent social inclusion and employment of 75 youngsters/adults with disabilities or from disadvantaged and socially difficult backgrounds;
- to establish constructive collaboration with and the growth of local bodies associated with the Opera Don Guanella.
The project made it possible:
- to foster the social integration and participation of people with disabilities, using cinema as a therapeutic tool for actors to realise their potential;
- to increase the independence and relational abilities of people with disabilities;
- to organise and run the eleventh edition of the Festival;
- to give the Festival greater visibility by expanding its sphere of action from the Martesana area on to a national and international stage.
The project made it possible:
- to develop and test a model to validate the competences of people with cognitive disabilities, that is consistent with European guidelines and can be taken as a benchmark by public and private stakeholders;
- to apply the model to 10 people with disabilities and identify the level of their current competences, placing them in a certified formalised context to enable them to acquire a professional profile and adult social role.

Il Ponte [The Bridge] – CONVOI Social Cooperative
Through the project a socio-occupational day centre with low care intensity was opened for people with disabilities, to set up work training activities in a protected environment with a view to employment.
Più in L.A. [Beyond] – Agevolando Association
The project allowed 10 young people leaving foster care or rehabilitation centres to experience training and employment in a real workplace. The Allianz UMANA MENE Foundation enabled the project model to be replicated in Liguria, Piedmont, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto.
Eye-tracking – Benedetta d’Intino Centre The project helped 15 children on the augmentative alternative communication course at the Benedetta d’Intino Centre to develop the competences to realise their full potential and respond more effectively to essential independence needs such as communication, entertainment and environmental control.
In-Lab – In-Presa Social Cooperative The project enabled four professional development laboratories to be set up: a 3D print laboratory for 10 youngsters; an agricultural laboratory; a sartorial laboratory for 8 youngsters with disabilities and an e-bike laboratory.
Enzimi [Enzymes]– L’Accoglienza Social Cooperative
The project supported the formation and activation of a network of collaborative families engaged in the social re-introduction of vulnerable mother-child groups. It included a series of meetings to assist aggregation and participation in a social environment.
International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation
The Foundation helped the Italian Wheelchair Hockey Federation win the first world cup. The Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation also offered Allianz Group employees the opportunity to play a key role in the event, by supporting the needs of the participating Paralympic teams.

This project has had a high impact. The number of users continues to rise, there is a continuous turnover and the project is highly regarded by local residents and people in the sector.
A new edition has been launched, involving another 4 youngsters. The project involves assiduous and painstaking work to expand the network of profit and non-profit bodies supporting inclusive interventions for the cluster of caregivers.
This project has enabled the centre to refer to reliable information in order to assess the prescription and avoid wasting public money.
The project has given the youngsters involved a successful experience, enabling them to take on positive new school, training and work experiences. As a result, some of them have found employment. In-Presa has become a point of reference.
The project is contributing to the growth of a cohesive education community. Rigorous planning and reporting has fostered the development of internal competences at the L’Accoglienza Cooperative.
The project has helped the Italian Wheelchair Hockey Federation make the sport known to a wider public. Two new teams have been formed in Italy and a number of new contacts interested in forming teams and following developments at an international level have been made.

REPORT OF THE BOARD OF AUDITORS ON THE 2019 FINANCIAL STATEMENTSTo the Steering Board of the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation.
The Management Board of the Foundation, in accordance with Article 17 of the Statute, has approved the draft Financial Statements at 31 December 2019 – consisting of the Balance Sheet, the Management Report and the Notes to the Accounts – to be presented for the approval of the Steering Board. All the documentation was made immediately available to the auditors for their due control.
During the accounting period that ended on 31 December 2019, our activities were guided by the rules of conduct included in the document “Il controllo indipendente negli enti non profit e il contributo professionale del dottore commercialista e dell’esperto contabile” [The Independent Control of Non-Profit Bodies and the Professional Contribution of Chartered Accountants] recommended by the Consiglio Nazionale dei Dottori Commercialisti e degli Esperti Contabili [Italian National Board of Chartered Accountants].
Specifically:• we checked there was compliance with the law, the act
of incorporation and with the articles of association, as well as with the principles of fair administration and operation of the Foundation;
• we took part in the meetings of the Steering Board and of the Management Board, which were held in compliance with the statutory, legal and regulatory requirements that govern their proceedings. We can reasonably guarantee that the approved resolutions comply with the law and with the articles of association and are not manifestly imprudent or risky. There are potentially no conflicts of interest and the resolutions are not such that they would affect the integrity of the Foundation’s assets;
• we gained information and supervised the Foundation’s main activities and did not observe any anomalies;
• we assessed and supervised the suitability of the accounting and administration system and whether such system provides a reliable representation of management activities. We did so by obtaining information from the relevant officers and by examining the Foundation’s documents. On that regard, we have no particular findings to report;
• based on the requirements listed in the above-mentioned CNDCEC document, we checked that the financial statements match the information we
obtained through the performance of our duties. The purpose of the audit was to collect all the elements needed to ascertain whether the financial statements contain significant errors and whether, overall, they are reliable. We believe the work performed provides a reasonable foundation for us to express our professional judgment.
In our opinion, based on what we have examined, there are no elements that lead us to believe that the financial statements for the 2019 accounting period, composed of the Balance Sheet, the Management Report and the Notes to the Accounts, are not compliant with the rules that govern the accounting principles and are not a fair and truthful representation of the Foundation’s assets, liabilities and financial situation and its operating result for the accounting period.
All the above considered, and on conclusion of the checks carried out, the auditors express an opinion in favour of the approval of the draft financial statements for the 2019 accounting and the proposed allocation of the operating result.
The Board of Auditors points out that with the approval of the financial statements at 31 December 2019 the two-year term of office of the governing bodies of the Foundation pursuant to art.13 of the Articles of Association has expired. The Auditors express their thanks for the trust placed in them and ask the Steering Board, to the extent of its competence, to take the necessary resolutions.

The futureIntroduction
In 2020 the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation has continued its commitment to satisfy emerging social needs and support people who face difficulties, offering its resources and professional skills.
The Foundation intends to carry out long-term activities for the purpose of improving social conditions. In this way it aims to satisfy the interests of its stakeholders and pursue lasting change.
1. WORK PLACEMENT
Learning from Excellence 2020 & TutorialMeThe Foundation is continuing to help young people with the aim of laying solid foundations for their future. The ninth edition of the Impariamo dall’eccellenza [Learning from Excellence] project will be held in 2020. The project offers young people from troubled
backgrounds the opportunity of an internship in one of the hotels taking part in the project. Non-profit organisations can send the candidacies of their youngsters by following the instructions on the website www.umanamente.allianz.it. To support this initiative, the improvement of www.tutorialme.it will continue, to facilitate the selection, management and monitoring of the project beneficiaries. The platform will also offer training opportunities for youngsters by posting video tutorials.
TutorialMe – Managing DisabilityWith the supervision of the Coordinating Body of Lombardy Universities for Disability, the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation decided to give TutorialMe a new mission: to facilitate the work placement of people with disabilities and foster a new approach to the work-disability relationship. Implementation will continue of the website www.managingdisability.it, created to help young people with disabilities in the workplace.
Youth in Action for Sustainable Developement GoalsThe Foundation’s collaboration with the Italian Accenture Foundation initiative will continue in 2020, to collect and reward the best project ideas to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. To enhance this commitment, in 2020 the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation will be one of the sponsors of the ideas competition.
2. SOCIAL AGRICULTURE
Ilborgofelice harvesting and gathering togetherThe tenth edition of the ilborgofelice vendemmiando e raccogliendo insieme [ilborgofelice harvesting and gathering together] project will be held in 2020. Every year this event takes place in the enchanting setting of the Relais & Châteaux Borgo San Felice, in the Chianti hills. In this unique project, people with disabilities, their educators and Allianz Group volunteers can experience first-hand the rhythms of a natural environment, try out agricultural activities and become chefs, photographers and artists for two long week-ends. Non-profit organisations can send candidacies by following the instructions on the website www.umanamente.allianz.it.
The Vegetable Garden and the Farmyard at the Borgo and Vi.Ve.Support continues for the San Felice social vegetable garden, a project set up in 2012 which has become a model for interaction between the elderly and people with disabilities who work every day on the land set aside for the project. Support also continues for the Vi.Ve. project, giving the youngsters working in the vegetable garden and other people with disabilities in the Siena area the opportunity to experience living independently in preparation for the “during and after us”.
3. SPORT
Motorcycle Therapy and Freestyle HospitalSupport has been renewed for the A.S.D. Vanni FMX to take motorcycle therapy across Italy, both at public events and in hospital wards.
Volley4allAfter the success of the 2019-2020 season, collaboration with the Allianz Powervolley Milano team is continuing for the new season. The project is intended to foster an inclusive sports culture that valorises diversity and promotes socialisation and team spirit.
OTHER INITIATIVES
All the initiatives intended to raise awareness about social issues will be replicated in 2020, for example the theatre performances of the San Patrignano Community and the events for the International Day for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Three new projects developed by the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation in partnership with other non-profit organisations and for-profit bodies will be launched in 2020, to develop constructive collaboration.
SECTORS OF ACTION IN 2020
Specifically, it intends to be a real player that plans and manages its own initiatives and activities, acting as a catalyst for resources by activating partnerships with Italian non-profit organisations.
To learn about all the opportunities to work with the Foundation, please visit the website www.allianz.it/umanamente or subscribe to the newsletter by sending an e-mail to [email protected].
During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation will continue to guarantee operations through smart working.
Given the health emergency, the Foundation will assess the possible suspension of its planned projects and initiatives.
The Foundation may consider helping non-profit organisations re-arrange their activities, providing the necessary support for those in need on a remote basis.
96 2019 Mission Report - Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation
The projects include:
Hol4All: A Holiday for everyone! This is a social integration and participation project developed by the Allianz UMANA MENTE Foundation to offer a free holiday at the TH Madonna di Campiglio Golf Hotel to children and adolescents aged between 0 and 20 with rare diseases, together with their siblings and parents. Home TheatreGiven the success achieved in previous years in supporting non-profit organisations active in the theatre, the Foundation intends to continue its commitment in 2020 by creating a place where these experiences can be correctly valorised: a place suitable for the needs of the theatre and where new challenges can be tackled. For this, a series of theatre workshops will be held, led by qualified teachers who will give lessons on stage disciplines and organise scouting activities to recruit top talents with a view to forming a permanent theatre company.
Casa UMANA MENTE Allianz - UMANA MENTE Allianz House: post-diagnosis welcome for families with children affected by rare syndromesWhen a diagnosis is received, knowing that one’s child has a rare genetic disease is a time of stress, fear and anxiety for parents.
