C.A.O. carries out ALTERNATIVE in vitro TESTS for the Cosmetics, Pharmaceutical and Chemical industries and manu-facturing activities in general.The principal objective is to provide solutions for the needs expressed by the cosmetics, pharmaceutical and chemical industries in the fi eld of regulatory requirements and market requirements. The Group develops its laboratory methods based on our specialized skills and laboratory capabilities.C.A.O. provides its customers not only with the in vitro testing service but also with a range of products and services comprised of a ready supply of laboratory kits as well as training and consult for the development of test strategies.

Dal 2008 il successo dell’area testing ci ha portati, in collaborazione con RES PHARMA, a creare il laboratorio di biologia cellulare in vitro, che ha sviluppato una serie di test messi a disposizione dei clienti congiuntamente ad un’attività di “Custom Analysis Organization”, per la valutazione sia della sicurezza sia dell’efficacia dei prodotti.In questo modo abbiamo potuto sviluppare ulteriormente la nostra visione etica che considera come test alterna-tivi solo quelli strettamente in vitro e ci impedisce di scendere a compromessi, quali il “ridotto uso di animali” o l’ex vivo o addirittura a considerare come alternativi i test su volontari, interpretazione dichiarata scorretta dalla stessa Commissione Europea. Riteniamo possibile ottenere risultati validi e dare un vero apporto scientifico al nostro settore semplicemente investendo sulla ricerca e sullo sviluppo, senza ricorrere a inutili alibi.

Cosa signifi ca per noi “test alternativi”

Since 2008, the success of the testing area led to us, in collaboration with Res Pharma, setting up the in vitro cell biology laboratory, which has developed a series of tests placed at our customers’ disposal together with a “Custom Analysis Organization” activity for assessing both the safety and the efficacy of products.We have thus been able to further develop our ethical vision that considers only tests strictly conducted in vitro as alternative and does not permit any compromise such as “limited use of animals” or ex vivo, or even allow us to consider as alternative tests those conducted on volunteers, an interpretation declared unacceptable by the European Commission. We believe that it is possible to obtain valid results and make a significant scientific contribution to our sector simple by investing in research and development, without resorting to worthless alibis.

What the term “alternative tests” means for us

C.A.O. was set up on the basis of a partnership between INT.E.G.RA. and the RES PHARMA Group established in 2000.RES PHARMA’s need to document the safety and effi cacy of their cosmetic ingredients and the network of specifi c skills in the fi eld of in vitro testing made available by INT.E.G.RA. gave rise to the CELL BIOLOGY LABORATORY.The market’s growing need for in vitro tests spurred the two companies to set up an organization capable of satisfying it in a comprehensive and targeted manner.

C.A.O. nasce dalla stretta collaborazione tra INT.E.G.RA. e il gruppo RES PHARMA sviluppatasi dall’anno 2000.L’esigenza di RES PHARMA di documentare: la sicurezza e l’effi cacia dei propri ingredienti cosmetici e il network di competenze specifi che, nell’ambito dei test in vitro, messo a disposizione da INT.E.G.RA., ha dato origine al LABORATORIO DI BIOLOGIA CELLULARE.In seguito il crescente bisogno di test in vitro manifestato dal mercato, ha spinto le due società a fondare un’organizzazione in grado di rispondere in modo organico e fi nalizzato.

I test in vitro disponibili permettono di valutare l’effi cacia e la sicurezza di moltissimi prodotti e dispositivi destinati all’uomo, in modo scientifi co e oggettivo.La caratteristica peculiare di questo tipo di test permette di indagare il meccanismo di azione alla base di un determinato com-portamento del prodotto.Non trattandosi di un test “sistemico” è necessario mettere a punto, di volta in volta, una strategia di testing che utilizzi diversi approcci e metodi, per determinare sia la sicurezza che l’effi cacia di un dato prodotto.
