Tante sono le parole chiave con cui scoprire Arezzo, una città toscana

ricca di storia, arte e tradizioni. E’ sta-ta una delle 12 lucumonie Etrusche, si possono vedere tracce dell’epoca Romana, si rimane ammaliati dall’ar-te, con l’opera del grande maestro del Rinascimento Piero della Francesca e dal genio e dalla capacità architetto-nica di Vasari. E’ la città dove Guido Monaco insegnò musica e arrivò a co-dificare la moderna notazione musica-le con l’invenzione del tetragramma. In questa città è nato Francesco Petrar-ca e la sua poesia. Arezzo è anche la città dell’Antiquariato con la Fiera più grande e antica d’Italia e della Giostra del Saracino un gioco cavalleresco ci-tato anche da Dante. Tra le piazze, le strade, le botteghe, gli angoli del cen-tro storico Roberto Benigni ha girato le scene del film “La Vita è bella” vinci-tore dell’Oscar nel 1997.

There are many key words with which you can discover Arezzo,

a Tuscan city rich in history, art and traditions. It was an Etruscan town, you can see traces of the Roman age, be amazed by art, with works by the great Renaissance painter Piero della Francesca and by the genius and architectural skill of Vasari. It is the city where Guido Monaco taught music and went on to make the mo-dern musical note system with the in-vention of the tetragram. Francesco Petrarca and his poetry were born in this city. Arezzo is also a city of Anti-ques with a fair which is the biggest and oldest in Italy. Then there is the Saracino Joust, a horseriding joust which was cited by Dante. Around the squares, streets, shops and corners of the historic centre Roberto Beni-gni shot scenes of the film “La Vita è bella” Oscar winner in 1997.

1 Cappella Bacci - gli affreschi di Piero della Francesca con la straordinaria Leggenda della Vera Croce.

2 Piazza Grande - la più bella piazza del-la città, in discesa, racchiusa da carat-teristici palazzi con le Logge del Vasari. La prima domenica del mese e il sabato che la precede si svolge la Fiera Anti-quaria.

3 Chiesa di Santa Maria della Pieve - in-confondibile il suo campanile a bifore detto “delle cento buche”.

4 Casa Vasari - abitazione di Giorgio Va-sari, è un esempio di casa d’artista del tardo Rinascimento.

5 Crocifisso di Cimabue - datato intorno al 1265-1270 è custodito all’interno della chiesa di San Domenico. Un capolavoro.

6 Museo Archeologico - l’organizzazione della civiltà etrusca e la straordinaria capacità nella lavorazione dei metalli e della ceramica. All’esterno da vedere l’Anfiteatro Romano.

7 Casa Museo Ivan Bruschi - la casa di un antiquario, fondatore della Fiera antiqua-ria, la sua collezione, la magia delle cose del passato, attraverso le culture e i secoli.

8 Duomo - di origine Gotica ha una splendida vetrata di Guillaume de Marcillat (XVI sec.) e la Maddalena di Piero della Francesca.

9 Museo dei mezzi di comunicazione - espo-sizione permanente sull’epoca della co-municazione: attrezzature e macchine per la musica, il cinema, la televisione.

Nel-la bella campagna, caratterizzata da oliveti e casali toscani, sono da visitare la Pieve di Santa Maria Maddalena a Sietina (XI secolo), chiesetta romanica a tre navate, il Museo dell'Acqua e alcuni interessanti impianti castellani.

The river Arno crosses both Capolona and Subbiano, two adjacent towns which mark the front door of Casentino, just a few kilometres from Arezzo. In beautiful countryside, with characteristic olive gro-ves and Tuscan country homes, visit the church of Santa Maria Maddalena a Sie-tina (XI century), a Romanesque church with three aisles, the Water Museum and some interesting castle buildings.

Uno dei borghi più belli d’Italia, po-sto sulla pendice di una collina da cui si gode una splendida vista sulla Valtiberina. Il suo nome è legato alla celebre Battaglia di Anghiari del 1440, combattuta nella piana di Anghiari tra truppe milanesi e la Repubblica di Firenze. Fu dipinta da Leonardo da Vinci nel salone di Palazzo Vecchio a Firenze.

One of the most beautiful towns in Italy, its location on the side of a hill gives it a splendid view over Valtiberina. Its name is linked to the famous Battle of Anghiari, 1440, fought on the Anghiari plain by Mi-lanese troops and the Florentine Re-public. It was painted by Leonardo da Vinci in the hall of Palazzo Vec-chio in Florence.

1 Piero della Francesca in Valtiberina - Nella sua terra natia il gran-de artista (nato a Sansepolcro) ha lasciato notevoli opere: la “Re-surrezione” e il polittico della “Madonna della Misericordia”, con-servati nel museo Civico di Sansepolcro e la celebre “Madonna del Parto” a Monterchi.

2 Castello di Poppi - residenza dei Conti Guidi, di origine medieva-le, è uno dei simboli del Casentino. All’interno del castello la biblio-teca Rilliana ricca di manoscritti e incunabili.

3 Cortona - città etrusca, da visitare il Museo dell’Accademia Etru-sca che conserva importanti reperti tra cui la Tabula Cortonensis, le tom-be etrusche fuori città. Nel Museo Diocesano si trovano opere di Luca Signorelli e l’Annunciazione del Beato Angelico (vedi spazio sotto).

4 Anghiari e il suo centro storico - borgo medievale caratterizzato da vicoli e piazzette, dove si trovano ancora botteghe artigiane. Una meraviglia da visitare. Da vedere il Museo Taglieschi e il Palaz-zo della Battaglia.

5 Santuario de La Verna - celebre Santuario francescano, dove Francesco d’Assisi ricevette le Stimmate nel 1224. Immerso in una foresta mo-numentale, oltre ai luoghi del santo, nelle Chiese e Cappelle sono conservate pregevoli terracotte invetriate dei Della Robbia.

6 Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi - 36.000 ettari di foreste, custo-discono un elevato patrimonio floristico e di una fauna di grande interesse che annota il lupo e l’aquila reale. Sentieri e mulattiere permettono di vivere espe-rienze uniche. Nel centro dell’area protetta si trova l’Eremo di Camaldoli.

7 La via Setteponti - la Cassia Vetus, antica strada che collegava Arezzo a Fiesole e permette ancora oggi un viaggio tra arte, cultura, tradizioni, la natura delle Balze.

8 Lucignano - originale castello medievale con impianto a pianta ellittica, rac-chiuso da mura con torri. Uno dei borghi meglio conservati della Toscana.

9 Beato Angelico a San Giovanni - una bellissima Annunciazione nel Museo della Basilica di Maria Santissima delle Grazie.

10 Sasso di Simone - Riserva Naturale nel comune di Sestino, caratterizzata dal-la presenza di due massicci calcarei che la dominano, il Sasso di Simone e il Simoncello.

11 Pieve di Romena - è una delle più belle pievi della Toscana. In stile romanico, con abside, dove bifore e trifore al mattino fanno passare lame di luce che illuminano l’interno.

12 Della Robbia - la famiglia dei Della Robbia ha lasciato numerose testimonianze d’arte su tutto il territorio aretino. Opere interessanti a Foiano della Chiana, Arezzo, Chiusi della Verna, Montevarchi, San Giovanni

1 Piero della Francesca in Valtiberina - The great artist has left many works of note in his home land (born in Sansepolcro): the “Resurrezio-ne” and the “Madonna della Misericordia” polyptych, kept in Sansepol-cro Civic Museum and the famous “Madonna del Parto” in Monterchi.

2 Poppi Castle - residence of the Guidi counts, of medieval origin and a symbol of Casentino. Inside the castle is the Rilliana library with many manuscripts.

3 Cortona - Etruscan city, we recommend a visit to the Accademia Etrusca Museum which houses important finds including the Tabula Cortonensis and Etruscan tombs outside the city. In the Diocese Museum are works by Luca Signorelli and the Annunciazione by Beato Angelico (see space).

4 Anghiari and its historic centre - medieval town characterized by small streets and squares where still today you can find artisan wor-kshops. A marvel to visit. To see are the Taglieschi Museum and the Palazzo della Battaglia.

5 The La Verna Sanctuary - famous franciscan Sanctuary, where Fran-cesco of Assisi received his Stigmata in 1224. Surrounded by an im-mense forest, besides the places of the Saint, there are fine glazed terracotta works by the Della Robbias kept in the churches and chapels.

6 The Casentino Forests National Park - 36,000 hectares of forests with a great flora patrimony and a highly interesting fauna with wolves and eagles. Walk along forest paths and tracks for a unique experience. In the centre of the protected area is the Camaldoli Hermitage.

7 Via Setteponti - the Cassia Vetus, ancient road which connected Arezzo to Fiesole and still today allows you to travel through art, culture, traditions and the “Balze”, a natural land formation.

8 Lucignano - original medieval castle with eliptical design, enclosed by walls and to-wers. A wonder to see.

9 Beato Angelico in San Giovanni - a beautiful Annunciazione in the Museum of the Maria Santissima delle Grazie Basilica.

10 Sasso di Simone - Natural Re serve in Sestino, characterized by the dominating pre-sence of two limestone masses, Sasso di Simone (Simon’s Stone) and Simoncello (Little Simon).

11 Pieve di Romena - it is one of the most beautiful churches in Tuscany. In Romane-sque style, double and triple openings over the apse let rays of morning light illumina-te the inside.

12 Della Robbia - the Della Robbia Family have left numerous testimonies of art all over the Arezzo territory, in Foiano della Chiana, Arezzo, Chiusi della Verna, Montevarchi, San Giovanni Valdarno, Anghiari and Sansepolcro.
