Situation on 6-5-06 Schedule for cool down:
- actual cool down speed: 0.2 K/h;
~ 25 of May argon filling, no access to cavern;
after filling about one week for temperature stabilization.
95 tons of Lar ready in the cavern for filling,
Few weeks from now final cooling of central solenoid start too, end of may readness

Sistema HV

Sistema HV
Running channel (RC) problem discovered last fall and under investigation since then.
In the ISEG PSs in question, each group of 16 channels is supplied with a single bulk high voltage supply.
The RC phenomenon is a substantial increase, after hours to weeks of operation, in the leakage current in a channels of a HV power supply module. This leads to a potentially dangerous increase in voltage output on such a channel if it is either "off" or at a significantly lower voltage than the bulk high voltage value.
The phenomenon is due to a faulty component in the voltage regulation circuitry
which deteriorates over time
G. Costa, Roma 16 maggio 2006
Commissione I LAr: status report
12
Sistema HV
Short term solution (barrel cool down): A patch in the module firmware has been included to switch
off the module if a RC behavior is detected Removing the HV and heating the module does temporarily
cure or reset the problem. Long term solution:
Iseg has implemented and is testing (apparently with success after a few weeks testing) a modification in the regulation circuit
HV modules from other vendors are being evaluated and tested

Installazione dei Servizi su EC-C
◊ 13 CRATES DI ELETTRONICA ( su ogni EC) 4 DIFFERENTI TIPOLOGIE DI SERVIZI ( FCAL, EMEC, (HEC&EMEC-special),Crates-feet.region)

Soluzione raggiunta sembra soddisfacente

Prossime tappe/scadenze
• Completamento installazione servizi EC-C (~entro inizio giugno)
• Settimana del 25 maggio inizio filling LAr del Barrel,
(continuazione tests con HV al valore nominale )
• ~26 maggio previsto completamento tiles intorno EC-A
• luglio test barrel toroid

Calibration scheme based on Geant 4 Montecarlo developed for testbeam analysis (data from 10 to 250 GeV): Achieve good resolution and linearity at the same time Calibration hits: energy lost in dead materials (upstream, downstream, absorbers)
Main purpose: study the exportability of the method to ATLAS Decouple all the effects step by step
Present status: Center of the cell no magnetic field finished. The method works at least for the
barrel in the ATLAS setup Full cell no magnetic field almost finished. The method still holds. Full cell with magnetic field is ongoing. Photons: only a quick look to be studied more carefully.

Contribution to E resolution
• Total Resolution (CCell no Bfield) • Resolution with only accordion energy reconstructed (all others E are TRUE, from MC)• Resolution with only front energy reconstructed (all others E are TRUE from MC)• Resolution with only back energy reconstructed (all others E are TRUE from MC)
At high the energy lost in front are the dominant contribution toenergy resolution

BT next steps
Step 1: Cool down to 4.8K start end May ‘06, cleaning of the cavern
from magnetic metallic objects
Step 2: Field test in Jun-Aug ‘06, mostly overnightStep 3: Coils warming up summer ‘06 and wait for the 2 ECTs
and full magnet test (spring ‘07) for the final cool down
Problems : delivery of last section of busbars late (cable solution for
June tests found) several vacuum problems or false alarms (~4 weeks delays) few cryo lines (gas extraction to surface) isolation problematic --> new lines early test interferes with other systems installation
