This manual contains all the useful informationfor carrying out the correct and propermaintenance in order to keep your suspensionforks always at their best.It is important therefore to read this manualcarefully before carrying out any interventionand to take note of the advices that we considerindispensable to offer you.Assembling and adjustment instructions arealso provided for several commercially availablekits which enable to the performance of yoursuspension forks to be increased.Keep this manual in a safe place for futurereference, remembering always that optimumworking, and therefore greater safety, is obtainedby following scrupulously the information givenon the following pages.

1.1 GENERALITA'

Le forcelle originali Paioli rappresentano un pro-dotto tecnologicamente avanzato, risultato di unalunga ricerca progettuale sui nostri laboratori diricerca e sviluppo.Costruite solo con materiali idonei equalitativamente elevati, rispondono nel modo piùsoddisfacente ai criteri di affidabilità e sicurezzaanche in serie industriali elevate, perchéassemblate in impianti a catena ad alta efficienzasenza però rinunciare alla qualità della singolaunità.Abbiamo cercato, in questo manuale, di mettere adisposizione dell’utente tutte le informazioni e ledescrizioni necessarie per mantenere o ampliarele prestazioni delle Vostre forcelle.Vi raccomandiamo tuttavia l’intervento di perso-nale autorizzato per le varie operazioni riportate el’utilizzo di ricambi e kits originali (vedi capitoloavvertenze e raccomandazioni).

1.1 GENERAL

The original Paioli forks are a technologicallyadvanced product and are the result of a longresearch project in our research and developmentlaboratories.Made only of suitable and high quality materials,they correspond most satisfactorily to criteria ofreliability and safety even in large productionseries. This is because they are assembled onhigh efficiency production lines without, however,sacrificing the quality of the individual units.We have tried, in this manual, to make all thenecessary information and descriptions availableto the user in order to maintain or increase theperformance of the forks.We recommend however, the intervention ofauthorized personnel for the various operationsdescribed and for the mounting of spare parts andoriginal kits (see chapter “Warnings andrecommendations”).

• è installata sulla moto in modo errato o nonconforme alle avvertenze riportate nelle istruzionidel manuale d'officina della moto .

• è stata rimontata in modo errato o non conformealle avvertenze riportate nelle istruzioni delpresente manuale.

• è manomessa o riparata da personale nonautorizzato.

• sono intervenuti danni durante il trasporto.

• vengono alterate le caratteristiche della forcellarispetto al progetto tecnico/costruttivo.

Tutte le forcelle vengono collaudate dal nostrocentro collaudi.

La denuncia dei vizi e/o dei difetti di funzionamen-to deve essere trasmessa entro trenta giorni dallascoperta.

In caso di contestazione sulla qualità e sullecondizioni del prodotto si applicano gli articoli delcodice civile.

I modelli usciti dalla fabbrica, possono subire, neltempo, delle modifiche tecniche e costruttive.

1.6 WARNINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The safety of the fork is jeopardized if:

• it is installed incorrectly on the motorbike or notin conformity with the motorbike workshop in-structions manual.

• it has been remounted incorrectly or not inconformity with the warnings given in this manual.

• it has been tampered with or repaired by unau-thorized personnel.

• it has been damaged during transport.

• the characteristics of the fork are modified withrespect to the technical/manufacturing design.

All the forks are tested and inspected at our testcentre.

Reports of defects and/or faults must be sentwithin thirty days of them being discovered.

In the event of disputes regarding the quality andcondition of the product the articles of the civil codeare applied.

The models that have left the factory can undergo,with time, technical or manufacturing modifica-tions.

Paioli Meccanica S.p.A. declines any responsi-bility for the data or any errors in the compilation ofthis manual, as far as is explained, without preju-dice to the essential characteristics which aredescribed and illustrated.

2.1 WARNING

This paragraph contains all the required andessential information for properly performing themaintenance operations:

OIL CHANGEThe quantity of oil contained in the suspension is offundamental importance in order to obtain maximumperformance and the best operation. Therefore itmust be replaced after the first 3 + 4 hours so as toeliminate any residues due to the adaptation of theinner components and later on every 8 hours forcross and every 20 hours for enduro.It is recommended that you use PAIOLI 01

NOTE: The utilization of oil with differenttechnical specifications will jeopardize the

good operation of the suspension.

WARNING! Paioli Meccanica will notassume any responsability if the spare

parts not original supplied by Paioli Meccanicaand if the work is not commited to an authorizedservice centre of Paioli Meccanica. Only PAioliMeccanica or an authorized centre can makethis kind of work.

TOOLS MAINTENANCE KITTo replace these components, it is

2.1 AVVERTENZE

CAMBIO OLIOLa quantità di olio contenuta nella sospensione è difondamentale importanza per ottenere le massimeprestazioni ed il migliore funzionamento, pertantooccorre sostituirlo dopo le prime 3±4 ore per elimi-nare eventuali residui dovuti all’adattamento deicomponenti interni e successivamente per il crossogni 8 ore e per l'enduro ogni 20 ore.Consigliamo di utilizzare olio PAIOLI 01

NOTA: L’utilizzo di olio con diversespecifiche tecniche compromette il buon

funzionamento della sospensione.

P Procedere nel seguente modo:• Eseguire una pulizia generale della sospensione.• Posizionare sulle ganasce della morsa un pan-

no per proteggere la superficie del gambale.• Bloccare la sospensione immorsandone il

gambale P (nella zona di fissaggio del trapezioinferiore) inclinato come in figura, onde evitarela fuoriuscita dell’olio.

ATTENZIONE! Stringere moderatamen-te la morsa in modo da non ovalizzare il

gambale.

• Con chiave di 50 mm sbloccare il tappo B esvitarlo completamente.

Proceed as follows:• Generally clean the suspension.• Place a cloth between the teeth of the vice to

protect the surface of the outer tube.• Block the suspension by clamping the outer tube

P (in the fixing zone of the lower bracket) in aninclined position, as shown in the figure, in orderto stop the oil spilling out.

WARNING! Tighten the vice moderatelyin order not to ovalize the outer tube.

• Using a 50 mm open-ended spanner loosen theend plug B and unscrew it completely.

• Per agevolare l'uscita del tappo spingere versol'alto il gambaletto come da figura.

• In order to help the end plug come out, push theaxle bracket upwards as shown in the figure.

• Estrarre il tappo B a sufficienza per interveniresul controdado C.

• Abbassare con forza la molla mantenendo larondella appoggia molla R a battuta sul tappo B,quindi inserire una chiave a forchetta di 17 mm sulcontrodado C ed una chiave di 50 mm sul tappoB; effettuare lo sbloccaggio dei due componenti.

• Withdraw the end plug B sufficiently in order toaccess the lock nut C.

• Using force lower the spring, keeping the springresting washer R against the end plug B, thenusing a 50 mm open-ended spanner accesslock nut C and a 19 mm open-ended spanner toaccess end plug B; release the two components.

nato un OR; fare attenzione a non perderlo.Va riposizionato al montaggio.

Note: Place all the components in a cleanarea.

WARNING: an OR is positioned under thespring guide G, against the end of stroke

bush F; do not lose it. It is to be repositioned duringthe assembly operations.

Nota: La molla, essendo immersa nell’olio,durante l’estrazione potrebbe gocciolare

sul piano di lavoro, è quindi consigliabile estrarlalentamente ed asciugarla con un panno.

Note: The spring, being immersed in oilcould cause oil to drip onto the work surface

when remove. It is advisable therefore to withdrawit slowly and to dry it with a cloth.

• Togliere dalla morsa la sospensione, avendo cura di mantenere l’estremità del tappo verso l’alto perevitare la fuoriuscita dell’olio.

• Versare l’olio in una vaschetta pompando contemporaneamente lo stelo S avanti e indietro.

ATTENZIONE! Eseguire il pompaggio tenendo un dito sull’estremità dello stelo S ondeevitare la perdita del puntale di regolazione H, inserito all’interno dello

stelo S. Per non arrecare danni all'ambiente raccogliere l'olio esausto e consegnarlopresso un centro.preposto alla raccolta.

• Remove the suspension from the vice taking care to keep the plug end upwards in order to avoid theoil spilling out.

• Pour the oil into a tray whilst at the same time moving the rod S backwards and forwards.

WARNING! Keeping a finger over the end of the rod S whilst moving it back and forth inorder not to lose the regulator H which is inserted in the end of rod S.

In order not to pollute the environment collect the used oil and take it to a collection centre.

• Posizionare nuovamente sulle ganasce dellamorsa un panno ed immorsare saldamente lasospensione in posizione orizzontale stringen-do l'attacco sul gambaletto H.

• Estrarre il gommino M posizionato nella parteinferiore del gambaletto.

• Estrarre lo scodellino di appoggio molla S.• Inserire la chiave a brugola di 14 mm nel gruppo

di regolazione in compressione Z2 e la chiave atubo T fornita nel kit attrezzi sulla cartuccia L,quindi sbloccarla. Svitare completamente il grup-po di regolazione ed estrarlo.

Nota: prima di sbloccare la cartuccia,assicurarsi che l'estremità della chiave T siaperfettamente innestata sui piani ricavati sullacartuccia.

Smontaggio ed estrazione cartucciaDismounting and withdrawing the cartridge

• Once again, place a cloth between the teeth ofthe vice and firmly clamp the suspensionhorizontally in the vice fastening it by attachmenton axle bracket H.

• Remove the little rubber plug M located on thelower part of the axle bracket.

• Remove the spring support disc S.• Insert a 14 mm allen key in the compression

adjust unit Z2 and the socket spanner T suppliedin the tools maintenance kit on the cartridge Land release it. Unscrew the compression adjustunit completely.

• Withdraw the cartridge L.

Note: before releasing it, ensure that thespanner T is correctly engagen on the flats on thecartridge.

• Vuotare completamente la cartuccia L pompando alternativamente avanti e indietro con lo stelo G,avendo cura di tenere fermo il puntale di regolazione H con un dito.

• Lavare con benzina l’interno del gambale e l’esterno della cartuccia facendo attenzione a non fareentrare della benzina all’interno della cartuccia attraverso i 2 fori inferiori, in quanto compromettereb-be seriamente il funzionamento della stessa.

ATTENZIONE! Non manomettere la cartuccia! Per questa operazione rivolgersi esclusivamentea personale autorizzato. La manomissione della cartuccia da parte di personale non

autorizzato compromette la sicurezza della forcella, pertanto Paioli Meccanica S.p.A. non siassume nessuna responsabilità nel caso di qualsiasi danno provocato da tale azione. Per nonarrecare danni all'ambiente raccogliere l'olio esausto e consegnarlo presso un centro prepostoalla raccolta.

• Empty the cartridge L completely by pumping the rod G backwards and forwards taking care to holdthe regulator H firmly with one finger.

• Clean the inside of the outer tube and the outside of the cartridge with petrol taking care not to let petrolenter the inside of the cartridge through the two lower holes as it would seriously jeopardize itsfunctioning.

WARNING! Never tamper with the cartridge! For this operation go only to authorizedpersonnel. Tampering with the cartridge by non authorized personnel can jeopardize the

safety of the forks. Paioli Meccanica S.p.A. will not assume any responsibility for any damagesresulting from such action. In order not to pollute the environment collect the used oil and takeit to a collection centre.

• Bloccare in morsa l’asta pompante, avendocura di non rovinarla.

• Svitare con una chiave di 17 mm ed una di19 mm il controdado C del pistone di fine corsa.

• Sfilare dall’asta il controdado C e il pistone B.• Spostare il portapistone A per liberare il

seeger D.

• Clamp down the pumping rod, beingcareful not to damage it.

• Loosen lock nut C of the end-of-travelpiston using a 17- and 19-mm wrench.

• Slide out lock nut C from the rod and the piston B.• Shift the piston holder A to free the circlip D.

• Utilizzando un cacciavite estrarre dalla propriasede il seeger D e farlo scorrere lungo l’asta finoalla filettatura.

• Fare girare il seeger sulla filettatura fino alla suacompleta estrazione.

• Sfilare il portapistone A.

• Using a screwdriver pry out circlip D from its seatand slide it along the rod as far as the thread;

• Turn the circlip on the thread until fully removed.• Slide out the piston holder A.

• Capovolgere la cartuccia e sfilare l’asta con ilpistone scorrevole.

• Infilare la stessa asta con il pistone scorrevolenella nuova cartuccia.

•Turn the cartridge over and take out therod with the sliding piston.

•Slip the same rod with the sliding pistoninto the new cartridge.

• Infilare il portapistone A con il collare per lachiave di 17 mm verso il basso.

• Far ruotare il seeger D sulla filettatura dell’asta efarlo scorrere fino all’inserimento nella sua sede.

• Infilare il portapistone A fino alla coperturadel seeger D.

• Infi lare i l pistone B sul portapistone Afacendo attenzione alle quattro scanalatireche devono essere rivolte verso la cartuccia.

• Infi lare i l controdado C e avvitarlo sulportapistone con coppia di serraggio di 2,5÷3 kgm.

• Insert the piston holder A with the collarfor the 17-mm wrench downwards

•Rotate circlip D onto the rod threadand slide it along the rod down to its seat.

• Insert piston holder A until it covers thecirclip D.

• Insert piston B on to the piston holder Amaking sure that the four grooves areturned facing the cartridge.

• Insert lock nut C and screw it on to thepiston holder with a torque of 2.5÷3 Kgm .

• Procedere al montaggio della cartuccia L e delgruppo di regolazione in compressione Z2 con larondella di tenuta A, riutilizzando la chiave a tuboT del kit attrezzi ed una chiave a brugola di 14mm nel gruppo di regolazione Z2.

• Riavvitare e bloccare la cartuccia con unacoppia di serraggio di 39 ÷ 44 Nm.

Nota: durante il bloccaggio assicurarsi che l’estre-mità della chiave T sia innestata perfettamentesulla cartuccia L.• Rimontare il gommino M inserendolo a pressione

sul gambaletto.

• Mount the cartridge L and the compressionadjustment unit Z2 with the relative washer,using the socket spanner T supplied in thetools maintenance kit and a 14 mm allen keyinserted in the compression adjustment unit Z2.

• Screw on and tighten the cartridge with atorque wrench setting of 39 ÷ 44 Nm.

Note: during tightening, ensure that the end of thespanner T is correctly engaged on the cartridg L.• Remount the small rubber plug M pressing

it onto the axle bracket.

• Inserire lo scodellino di appoggio molla S sullostelo della cartuccia (fig.18).

• Accertarsi che l'anello OR in appoggio alfine corsa F sia al suo posto o se è stato toltoriposizionarlo a battuta sul fine corsa.

• Inserire la guda molla in plastica G.• Avvitare il controdado C fino a fine filettatura.

• Insert the spring support disc S on the cartridgerod (fig.18).

• Make sure that the OR that rests on the end ofstroke F is in its seat or if it was removed,reposition it against the end of stroke.

• Insert the plastic spring guide G.• Tighten the lock nut C to the threading end.

• With the suspension in a vertical positionpour in part of the new oil.It is recommended to use PAIOLI 01 oil.

• Alternately pump rod G and axle bracketattached to the inner tube up and down untila homogeneous braking is obtained duringthe return stroke.

WARNING! Keep a finger over theend of the rod G whilst pumping itback and forth in order not to losethe regulator H which is inserted inthe end of the rod.

• Con la sospensione verticale introdurre unaparte di olio nuovo.Si consiglia di utilizzare olio PAIOLI 01

• Pompare alternativamente su e giù lo steloG e il gambaletto attaccato al tubo di forzafino a sentire, durante la corsa di ritorno,una frenata omogenea.

ATTENZIONE! Eseguire il pompaggiotenendo un dito sull’estremità dello steloG onde evitare la perdita del puntale diregolazione H, inserito all’interno dellostelo.

• Lower the spring using force keeping the springresting washer R tight agains the plug B, theninsert a 17 mm open-ended spanner on lock nutC and a 50 mm open-ended spanner on plug B,tighten the two components with a torque of17,6 ÷ 21,5 Nm.

• Abbassare con forza la molla mantenendo larondella appoggia molla R a battuta sul tappo B,quindi inserire una chiave a forchetta di 17 mmsul controdado C ed una chiave di 50 mm sultappo B; effettuare il bloccaggio dei due compo-nenti con coppia di serraggio di 17,6 ÷ 21,5 Nm.
