dell'economia in gran parte potere invisibile, oltre allo

orberto Bobbio, the great philosopher of law and
politics, docet: That democracy would be the
popular self-government is a myth that historyNconstantly denies. A minority rules in all States. Amongfailures of democracy, there are issues such as poor
governance, not the form but the mode of governance:
government for himself separated from government for the
common good, or arbitrary government not according laws.
State and market are forms of social regulation. Democracy
is government of public power in public, where public is
opposed to both private and secret. The existence of
invisible powers instead corrupts democracy. Economic
governance is a largely invisible power, in addition to the
State there are other centers of power, advertising is a form
of control. Democracy is a myth disproved by history, but it
remains the only way. Freely extracted from the bookThe
future of democracy, publisher Einaudi, 1984.

linoleum, grafica, illustrazione e animazione.
laboratorio.

have been working with children and adults pu blishing,

pictures and web communication in the culture and art field.
They recently reached fame carving out a place in the world of
clothes and posters' self-prod uctions, which are sold in Rome

expression, alongside with chalcography with linoleum,
graphic design, portraying and animation. We heartily
recommend you, if you are the Roman area called Pigneto, to
go and meet them in their coming workshops in their new lab.

'Avventura by Michelangelo
Antonioni was presented at
Cannes in 1960, a visionaryLwork that wil l create a profound
change in the world of cinema for the
uniqueness of his language. The film
begins as a thriller: a young woman
on holiday in Aeolian Islands
suddenly dissolves into nothingness.
Her boyfriend and her friend will look
for her trail, but a complicity bornsbetween them with passing day, until
to set aside the fate of the missing
woman and to yield to passion that
binds them. What the author define
disease of the mind is performed
for the first t ime in the history of
cinema, a syndrome that manifests
itself today in desperate search of
identity typical of a generation. In the
film, any moral crumbles in front of
transience of the instincts, life itself
becomes meaningless and therefore
also the traditional film syntax. Time
and space are not longer references,
but contr ibute to boredom and
alienation, the plot does not matter
but it is just an excuse to bring out alatent evil of living.
Fifty years later, Somewhere by Sofia
Coppola tr iumphs in Venice, it
proposes the insecurity and the
tedium of modern life through the
story of a Hollywood star in crisis, a
victi m of lone lines s tha t spe nds h is
days between fleeting sexual
encounters, drugs and alcohol. A
story in which the drama of an empty
life is expressed through moments
died and inconsistent dialogues. The
meeting with the daughter will change
things, bringing the man to rediscover
the asleep vita lity and love. Two
narratively similar but stylistically
different paths: that of Antonioni
towards a total absence of feelings,
the other proposed by Sofia Coppola
follows the opposite direction to the
rediscovery of them. Two ways of
representing the research of the self,
a key topic of the cinema also
present in more commercial films,
that distract and excite the audience
helping to form an identity that
protects us from the fears of
everyday life and suggests that all
has happy ending.

terribile sortilegio, ingoia e rapisce i viandanti all'interno di
una realt parallela. I rapiti vivono magnifiche esperienze

rubinett i giganti dai quali sgorgano cascate d 'acqua

he Legend of the Willow is a narrative directed notonly to children, which tells an adventure with
mystical connotations by using illustrations and textTwith a poetic taste. A Weeping Willow enraptures wayfarers
because of a terr ib le spell. Vict ims live wonderful
experiences inside parallel realities, unaware that in spring
season they will flourish on the branches and then will fade
forever. The tree had just swallowed a fearless little boy
named Nad, when Ronkey, the guardian instructed to turn
away infants, embarks on an adventurous journey through
labyrinthine faraway worlds together with Armilla, Nad's
sister. The y wi ll e nco unte r st utte rer rum ina nts, biz arr e
creatures, lakes of mucus, worlds upside down, cobwebs
who steal people's thoughts, giant taps from which malefic
waterfalls gush, childish scribbles who devour the sheet,
and enchanting places full of myster y. The narrative is
expressed by a type of creative visual writing very close to
the Ita lo Calvino mode. The analyt ical description ofscenes, places and events, is enriched by illustrations, a
macro representation of the words in order to bring the
reader into a vision of reality having roots in the unstable
and uncertain soil of imagination. An invitation to costancy
of the thoughts, to strength of the imagination, to not doing
of reality the rust of fantasy.

riduzione degl'investimenti militari.
guerra coloniale algerina (1954-62), l'esercito francese

he art critic and curator John Szarcovski wrote in
1974: It seems that photography is deputed to
play a role in the defin it ion of revolutionaryTchanges. There is no doubt that photography possesses
an eloquence much greater than the word, therefore it is a
privileged tool to describe and document. Until February 5,
the Ara Pacis Museum in Rome hosts the photo exhibition
Shadows of War, ninety photographs on major conflicts
occurred worldwide in last seventy years: from the Spanish
Civil War, where began the era of modern photojournalism,
until 2007 in Iraq. Ninety icons of highly symbolic value
signed by photographers like Robert Capa, Eugene Smith,Don Mc Cullin, James Nachtwey, Sebastiao Salgano, and
others. The event, organized by the photo agency Contrasto
which published the catalog of the exhibition for sale at the
bookshop of the Museum, is part of the in it iat ives
promoted by Veronesi Foundation in the project "Science
for Peace", created to promote culture of nonviolence,
peaceful resolution of conflicts and reduction of military
investments.
Th e po wer to sh ow re al it y in ob je cti ve way ma ke s
photography potentially dangerous, so it has been regularly
censored on the battlefields, or used to disseminate a truth
of convenience. During the Colonial War in Algeria (1954-
62), the French army censored any kind of compromising
photo, so the vicious terrorist campaign against civilian
population has been removed. During the Vietnam War
(1960-75), the Pentagon made the mistake of did not
practice any kind of censorship, which is why we say this
war has been won by photographers, as they have produced
a thorough documentation. The first Gulf War (1990-91)
has been called war of the global village because of
abundance of images showing a surgical war, quick and
painless, but the combat zones were banned to
photographers. The war photography is a controversial kind:
some say that the camera must be put aside when faced
with such tragic situations, others claim that the war
photographer must document whatever scenario. Faced
with the corpses and suffering of survivors of Buchenwald,
the photographer Margaret Bourke-White wrote: Shooting
now, think later: history will judge. If photographer has the
task of witnessing, the viewer will have to reflect and
meditate so that history will become civic consciousness.
