    Message

    My Dear Brethren,

    As you are aware the Grand Lodge of India is completing 50 years ofits existence in November 2011. This is a milestone of historicimportance in the existence of our Grand Lodge. This is an occasionto be celebrated with gaiety and to be cherished with greathappiness. It is also an occasion for us to reminisce on the efforts putin by our predecessors and founding fathers of the Grand Lodge ofIndia.

    We shall be celebrating the Golden Jubilee on 25th. November 2011at New Delhi at a glittering ceremony wherein His Excellency Dr.

    A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India will participate. Weshal l also be releasing a special s tamp depicting Freemasonry, to bereleased by the Postal Department on that day along with a First DayCover. A Coffee-table book will also be brought out on this occasionwhich wil l showcase the Grand Lodge of India since i ts birth as well asthe activities of member lodges from its inception.

Many GrandMasters and Representativesof SisterGrand Lodgesfrom Foreign Countries are also expected to bepresent.

    fortunate that M.W.Bro.Capt.Dr.B. Biswakumar,OSM, M.w.The Grand Master has given us thisunique opportunity of hosting Golden JubileeCelebrations and Annual Communication of GrandLodgeof India at Delhi. I assureyou that Brethrenof Delhi will leave no stone unturned to see thatthe Grand Festival is a success.

    Tocommemorate the occasion, we shall be bringing outa Souvenir. Brethren are requested to send masonic articles etcfor printing in the Souvenir. Lodges/Chapters and Brethren arealso requested to send their advertisements/greetings for

    publication. I will very much appreciate if youcan help in getting as many commercialadvertisements as possible.

    Annual Grand LodgeMeetings provide us an opportunitynot only of meeting high dignitaries of Freemasonry but alsoto

    meet Brethren from all over the country and abroad and learnmasonry in greater depths. Every Brother should seizethis rareopportunity of attending this Meeting.

    I appeal to all Brethren to register themselvesas Donor Patrons/Donors/Member ReceptionCommittee and attend the Golden JubileeCelebrations and Annual Meetings with theirspouse. Northern Region is well known for its

    hospitali ty and I am confident that the SteeringCommittee will do its bestto ensurethat your stayis comfortable and your visit enjoyable. I requestyou to send us your requirement forAccommodation and travel plans to enable us tomake proper arrangements. We shall all beeagerlyawaiting to receive and welcome you.

    Humayun's Tomb: Built by HajiBegum,the widow of the secondMughal Emperor, Humayun, nine years after his death and tookeight years to complete. It is designed by the Persian architectMisak Mirza Ghiyaz. Octagonal in shape, raised on a plinth,with double domes, high arches, laid in the centre of a largewalled enclosure, the monument is an imposing structure.

    India Gate: Built as a memorial to commemorate Indiansoldiers kil led in World War I, India Gate was designed by SirEdwin Lutyens and completed in 1931. Built from sandstone,the arch also housesthe Eternal Flame, a gesture in memory ofthe Indian soldiers who laid their lives in the 1971 war withPakistan.

    Rashtrapati Bhavan: The house that housesthe President ofIndia and the house that boasts of having welcomed the mostpowerful men in history. The Rashtrapati Bhavanwas designedby Edwin Lutyens and built in 1931,to bethe central point of theBritish power in Delhi . Originally called the Viceroy 's House,the Rashtrapati Bhavan covers an area of 4.5 acres of land. Ithas 340 rooms, 37 salons, 74 lobbies and loggias, 18 staircasesand 37 fountains.

    Raj Ghat: The cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi, Father ofNation iswell kept in undulating garden and a broad footpath.Every year on his death anniversary (30 January) and Birth

    JamaMasjid: Work on the Jama Masjid mosque was begun in1650 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan to complement hispalace at the RedFort. More than 5,000 workers toi led for sixyears to complete the largest mosque in India. Every Friday,theemperor and his retinue would travel in state from the fort tothe mosque to attend the congressional prayers.

    Qutab Minar :Delhi 's landmark, 73 mtr. tal l victory tower wasstarted by Qutub-ud-din Aibak,the first Musl im ruler in 1193but could finish only the 1st storey of sand stones. IItutmishsucceeding him added 2nd & 3rd floor in sand stone and laterin 1368 Firoz ShahTughlakconstructed 4th & 5th storey in bothsand stone and marble.

    Lotus Temple: Located in Kalkaji in the south of Delhi, it islotus shaped and has rightly been given the name. It is made ofmarble, cement, dolomite and sand. It is open to al l faiths andis an ideal place for meditation and obtaining peace andtranquility. Its founder, Bahaullah (1817-1892), is regarded byBahai asthe most recent in the line of Messengersof God thatstretches backbeyond recorded time andthat includes Abraham,Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ and Muhammad.

    Akshardham Temple Delhi: Akshardham means the eternal,

    divine abode of the supreme God, the abode of eternal valuesand virtues of Akshar as defined in the Vedas and Upanishadswhere divine bhakti, purity and peace forever pervades.

    Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi epitomises 10,000years of Indian culture in all its breathtaking grandeur, beauty,wisdom and bliss.

    PuranaQuila :The fort is said to be constructed on the historicsite of Indraprastha (900Be) by Humayun and Sher Shah.Covering a circuit of about a mile, the walls of the fort havethree gatesand are surrounded bya mat fed bythe river Yamuna.

    Red fort: So called because of the red stone with which it isbuilt, the Red Fort isone of the most magnificent palacesin theworld. India's history is also closely linked with this fort. It wasfrom here that the British deposed the last Mughal ruler, BahadurShahZafar, marking the end of the three century long Mughalrule. It was alsofrom its ramparts that the first prime. Ministerof India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, announced to the nationthat India was free from colonial rule.

    Jantar Mantar: At first sight, the Jantar Mantar appears like agallery of modern art. It is, however, an observatory built bySawaiJai Singh II of Jaipur (1699-1743), a keen astronomer anda noble in the Mughal court who was dissatisfied by the errorsof brass and metal astronomical instruments.

    Lakshmi Narayan Mandir :Built in 1938, the temple isan ideal introduction to some of thegodsof the Indian pantheon. Thetemple contains a large number

    of idols and visitors can also watch priests performingritualistic prayers.
