Dopo soli dieci anni si trasferiscono aGallarate e fondano la prima aziendasocietaria la “Mariotto De Martin e Figli”.Questo costante trend di crescita non hamai abbandonato l’azienda che nel 1975 sitrasferisce a Cardano al Campo perampliare la propria superficie produttiva.Nello stesso anno prende il nome diMABEF, nato dalle iniziali del fondatore,Mariotto Albino Bruno e Figli, ed a lui siaffiancano nel lavoro il figlio LucianoMariotto ed il genero Gianni Tottoli.L’azienda è ormai il simbolo dei cavallettiItaliani d’alta qualità nel mondo, presenzaincontrastata in Francia, Belgio, Germania,Gran Bretagna e negli Stati Uniti; nel 1981approda in Giappone e Sud Africa.

Il 1984 è l’anno della svolta che decretainnovazione e genialità: nasce il sistema dimontaggio dei cavalletti, il KIT, brevettatoda Luciano Mariotto.Nel corso degli anni anche i figli seguonole orme dei padri. Laura Mariotto, Sandroe Paolo Tottoli entrano a far parte dellaazienda arricchendola con il loro entusiasmo.Laura cura tuttora l’aspetto commerciale emarketing dell’azienda e lo sviluppodel marchio MABEF; Sandro si occupa dell’aspetto logistico e Paolo della parteproduttiva. Grazie a tutti loro oggi i cavalletti MABEFsono simbolo del MADE in ITALY. La garanzia del marchio nasce da un lavorocostante e appassionato, che trae forzadall’esperienza artigiana e sfrutta nuove

MABEF has travelled down a path towardexcellence, and for the past 60 years it hassupported, with innate ability and passion,all those who make art.Since 1948, the company has been makingwooden painters’ easels with creativityand energy, and today it still operates withthe same respect, love, expertise and careexhibited by the company’s founder,Albino Bruno Mariotto.A skilful restorer, cabinetmaker and paintingaficionado, he decided to embark on thisjourney with his wife Rita; together, in thefirst years of the post-war period, theydedicated their time and energy to theartisan production of painters’ easels, andstarted their business in Ispra, a small cityon the western shore of Lake Maggiore.

Ten years later, they moved to Gallarateand established the first corporate firmcalled “Mariotto De Martin e Figli”. Thistrend of constant growth has never leftthe company, which moved to Cardano alCampo in 1975 in order to expand its production area.During that same year, the company tookthe name of MABEF, from the founder’sinitials, Mariotto Albino Bruno e Figli, andhis son Luciano Mariotto and son-in-lawGianni Tottoli joined him in the business.By then the company had become thesymbol of high-quality Italian easelsthroughout the world, an undisputed presence in France, Belgium, Germany,Great Britain and United States; in 1981the company also landed in Japan andSouth Africa.

The year 1984 marked a turning point forthe company, the code words being inno-vation and genius: the KIT easel assemblysystem was born, patented by LucianoMariotto.During the course of the years the childrenfollowed in their fathers’ footsteps, andLaura Mariotto, Sandro and Paolo Tottolialso joined the company, enriching it withtheir enthusiasm.Today, Laura still handles the company’scommercial and marketing aspect as wellas the development of the MABEF brand;Sandro deals with the logistics and Paolowith the production part. Thanks to all of them, today the easelsproduced by MABEF are a symbol of theMADE in ITALY. The ingenious technical solutions andaccurately selected raw materials ensuresturdiness in time. In fact, MABEF usesonly high-quality solid beechwood thatcomes from controlled areas whereprompt reforestation is ensured (in 2004MABEF obtained the FSC certification,www.fsc.org). This type of wood is extre-mely resistant and its beauty increases intime, also thanks to a finish with naturaloils, which keep the raw material “alive”. Con le vendite Maimeri la Mabef ebbeuna spinta a lasciare presto Gallarateper Cardano al Campo. Il signor Mariotto ebbe anche il meritodi produrre anche un figlio, Luciano,eccezionalmente dotato di una mentemeccanica. Proprio dote che ci vuoleper inventare la maniera migliore perprodurre cavalletti per pittori dellamigliore qualità e durata.Inventando, disegnando e producendotutte le macchine che producono icavalletti. A distanza di anni, da Mabef si puòavere un pezzo di ricambio di tutta laproduzione. Una volta mi occorrevaun basamento per un cavalletto stu-dio che avevo rotto. Il pezzo entravaperfettamente nelle aste verticali. Dopo averlo rapidamenteassemblato, lo posizionò in mezzo alsuo grande studio, si allontanò di qual-che passo per osservarlo compiaciuto,si avvicinò, lo azionò.Perfetto, in ogni suo particolare. Lotoccò con un po’ di emozione: il legnoera liscio, levigato come un violino,senza una bava. La ferramenta, accura-tissima nelle forme, di pesante ottonemarinaro. Lo spostò vicino alla finestrafacendolo scorrere sulle ruote e vi siste-mò l'ultimo dipinto, una superba rosabianca.Arretrò di qualche passo e guardò.Dovette ammettere a se stesso, consimpatica autocritica, che il vero capo-lavoro era il cavalletto. Uscì dallo stu-dio avviandosi verso le scale. Urtò unoggetto, era un cavalletto da campa-gna nuovo, regalatogli non ricordavada chi. Era già inutilizzabile, notò percaso che non era un cavalletto Mabef.Allora pensò: mi piacerebbe proprioincontrare e conoscere il signore dellaMabef, gli stringerei la mano, gli farei icomplimenti e gli direi solamente GRA-ZIE!...Grazie Mabef e tanti auguri.P.S.
