COSMO - DALL’ ENTITA’ ASTRALE AL MITOL’artista inglese torna in Italia con un nuovo progetto espositivo del tutto peculiare e originale nel suo insieme.

La poetica della mostra che si svolgerà in Galleria STATUTO13 in Brera ha come soggetto il Cosmo - secondo la chiave di lettura personalissima di Leslie Lismore - in tutto il suo splendore ancestrale, la mitologia e i colle-gamenti antropologico-culturali che ne derivano sin da quando l’uomo ha popolato il nostro pianeta.

Il nostro sistema solare è immenso, in continua espansione e mutazione; l’ astronomia è da sempre un feno-meno che affascina tutte le culture del passato - basti pensare agli antichi Egizi, Greci, Maya, Sumeri, Babilo-nesi e a molte altre etnie evolute dell’antichità. Le le credenze popolari si sono mescolate alle conoscenze scientifiche (seppur rudimentali rispetto a quelle in nostro possesso attualmente): permettendo la nascita dell’astrologia.

Aruspici, maghi, studiosi, scienziati, profeti, indovini hanno “comunicato” con le stelle e con le divinità che erano attribuite ai medesimi astri, riportando sulla Terra anticipazioni di eventi catastrofici (e non); profezie che influenzavano le decisioni prese durante importanti battaglie o in ambito politico.

The theme of the exhibition, to be held in the Statuto13 Gallery, in the Brera district of Milan, takes as its subject the Cosmos - as interpreted in Leslie Lismore’s highly personal manner - in all its ancestral splendour, mythology and anthropological-cultural links, which have been with us as long as man has populated our planet.

Our solar system is huge, and growing, and ever changing. Astronomy has always been a phenomenon that has fascinated the cultures of the past - just think of the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Mayans, the Sumerians, Babylonians and myriad ethnic groups throughout antiquity. Folklore mixed with scientific knowledge (albeit rudimentary compared to that currently in our possession), leading to the birth of astrology.

Soothsayers, wizards, scholars, scientists and prophets have “communicated” with the stars and the gods that were attributed to those self same stars, bringing back to Earth anticipation of catastrophic events (and otherwise), as well as prophecies that influenced the decisions taken during important battles, or in politics.

The artistic work that hails from the sensitivity of Leslie Lismore takes as its influence the onset of these ancient beliefs in the pagan world, and how mythology has embraced human and religious philosophy throughout the centuries.

Venus is the main character which opens the series at Statuto 13. The exhibition is dedicated to the idol, and will feature works demonstrating the influence of the Goddess of Love. This is first in a series of events sharing a “common thread” of planetary influence as percieved throughout the history of mankind. The events will link art, culture, and sporting events.

The exhibitions of new works by Leslie Lismore will be varied and will be shown in a variety of venues worldwi-de, not just within art galleries but also at high profile social events. For example you can admire Venus in the context of an offshore yacht race which will take place on the South coast of the UK in 2016 featuring floating sculptures of the goddess; an example of the many sporting and cultural and philanthropic events that are will be taking place as part of Leslie Lismore’s Cosmos series.

Sport is a recurrent theme in the artwork of Leslie Lismore and which has been part our history, enhancing, unifying or integral to individual cultures since ancient times.

The concept brings to mind several examples: the Hellenic origin of the Olympics, the pelota (which in addi-tion to being played with for fun, was attributed with divinatory and even religious qualities) practiced for over 3,000 years by the peoples of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, and could even predict human sacrifices.

Sculptures, prints and drawings, are among the many techniques which Leslie Lismore uses in order to com-municate the emotions that arise from these cultural phenomena which have continued over the centuries unraveling through popular beliefs and the observation of planets from which it was thought that everything was derived: the gods, myth, religion, the arts and the nature of man himself.

A pleasant itinerant exhibition which gives us the opportunity to reflect on our past, the archetypal patterns that have created and shaped our culture since time immemorial to the present day in which we live ... or so-metimes we simply survive ...

Il lavoro artistico che nasce dalla sensibilità di Leslie Lismore ci narra proprio dell’insorgere di queste antiche credenze nel mondo pagano e di come la mitologia abbia ricalcato il pensiero filosofico umano e religioso nel corso dei secoli.

Venere è il personaggio protagonista che apre la serie dedicata al suo mito e che fa da “fil rouge” con tutti gli altri personaggi che accompagnano l’arte, la cultura, lo sport, la storia del genere umano. Le esposizioni delle nuove opere di Leslie Lismore saranno svariate e itineranti, non solo all’interno a Gallerie d’Arte ma anche presso eventi di alto riscontro sociale. Ad esempio si potranno ammirare nel contesto della gara nautica che si svolgerà sulle coste sud del Regno Unito; esempio dei molti eventi sportivi o di più ampio respiro culturale e filantropico che si susseguiranno.

Lo sport è ricorrente nelle tematiche trattate nei lavori artistici di Leslie Lismore ed è un elemento che ha sem-pre accompagnato la nostra storia fin dai tempi più lontani, come contingenza agglomerante, unificatrice o interna alle singole culture fin dall’antichità. La memoria mi riconduce a pensare a diversi esempi esaustivi: all’origine ellenica delle Olimpiadi, alla pelota (che oltre a essere giocata per semplice divertimento; aveva intenti divinatori e addirittura religiosi) praticata per oltre 3.000 anni dai popoli della mesoamerica precolombiana e che poteva addirittura prevedere sacrifici umani.

Sculture, stampe, disegni, molte le tecniche di cui Leslie Lismore si avvale nell’intento di trasmetterci delle emozioni che nascono proprio da questi fenomeni culturali e che si susseguono nel corso dei secoli dipanan-dosi tre le credenze popolari e l’osservazione dei Pianeti dai quali si pensava che tutto derivasse: la divinità, il mito, la religione, le arti e la natura dell’uomo stesso.

Una mostra piacevole, itinerante, che ci dona la possibilità di riflettere sul nostro passato, sui modelli arche-tipici che hanno creato e plasmato la nostra cultura dalla notte dei tempi sino ai giorni in cui viviamo o ...a volte...sopravviviamo.
