Con la XIV edizione del concorso bandistico internazionale festeggiamo il 20° di fondazione dell’as-sociazione Flicorno d’Oro. Lo statuto sottoscritto dai soci fondatori il giorno 17 dicembre 1991 dava l’avvio ad un evento musicale che nel corso di questi anni ha progressivamente contribuito a modificare il panorama bandistico italiano, aprendo l’orizzonte a tantissimi musicisti. Prima di allora simili esperienze erano assenti in ambito nazionale. Desidero qui ricordare le figure dei soci fondatori nelle persone di Milena Torboli, Claudio Molinari, Maria Cristina Fava, Remo Lutterotti, Enzo Bassetti, Giovanni Molinari, Mario Lutterotti, Giovanni Lechthaler, Gianni Caracristi, Gian-nina Moser. Tra loro il primo presidente del concorso, Giovanni Lechthaler, allora già presidente della federazione corpi bandistici della provincia di Trento. La prima edizione si svolgeva nel 1992 orientando gli iscritti in quattro categorie: Piccola, Media, Grande Banda e Brass Band; a partire dal 1995 le categorie si trasformavano, accogliendo i canoni internazionali dei concorsi: Eccellenza, 1a, 2a, 3a Categoria e Brass Band. Dal 2001 si inseriva anche la Categoria Superiore, collocata tra Eccellenza e 1a Categoria. La serietà dell’impostazione e l’autorevolezza delle giurie composte di volta in volta, sono sempre stati punti di forza del concorso. Un pensiero anche ai direttori artistici: Antonio Carlini e Daniele Carnevali dal 1991 al 1993, Mario Lutterotti e Daniele Carnevali dal 1994 al 1997, Marco Bazzoli e Carlo Pirola dal 1998 al 2008 fino ad arrivare dal 2009 ad oggi nuovamente al Maestro Daniele Carnevali.I presidenti di giuria sono stati nel 1992: Riz Ortolani; 1993: Henk Van Lijnschooten; 1995: Henk van Lijnschooten; 1997: Franco Cesarini; 1999: Franco Cesarini; 2001: Jo Conjaerts; 2003: Jo Conjaerts; 2005: Johann Mösenbichler; 2007: Johann Mösenbichler; 2008: Andrè Waignein; 2009: Andrè Waignein; 2010: Andrè Waignein; 2011: Jacob de Haan; 2012: Donald Hunsberger e Fulvio Creux.Grande merito anche al corpo bandistico Riva del Garda che nel corso di tutte queste edizioni si è sempre prodigato dietro alle quinte, coadiuvando l’organizzazione generale dell’evento, oltre allo sponsor ufficiale che dalla prima edizione ad oggi è stato la Yamaha Musica Italia, ora Yamaha Music Europe.Motivo di soddisfazione per questa edizione del concorso il grandissimo numero dei partecipanti, ben 51 gruppi rispetto ai 42 del 2011. Per la prima volta il numero dei partecipanti stranieri ha superato quello delle bande italiane, a dimostrazione della internazionalità del concorso (sono ben undici le nazionalità rappresentate). Si ripropone quindi l’incontro di culture musicali diverse, che danno al concorso quella peculiarità e distinzione che lo rende unico.

Nella serata inaugurale avremo modo di ascoltare presso l’Auditorium della chiesa S. Giuseppe il concerto di apertura tenuto dalla Koninklijke Harmonie Orpheus diretta da Hardy Mertens.Alla direzione artistica confermato il Maestro Daniele Carnevali. A lui l’augurio di buon lavoro. Poi a margine del concorso gli incontri di approfondimento proposti che andranno ad arricchire di contenuti l’evento. Un sincero grazie anche alla banda dei River boys diretta dal Maestro Giovanni Dalfovo che da alcune edizioni a questa parte introduce, con il loro spumeggiante repertorio, la proclamazione dei vincitori del concorso. Grazie anche alla giuria, formata dai musicisti Hardy Mertens, Miguel Etchegoncelay, Michele Netti, Fulvio Creux, Donald Hunsberger, Otto M. Schwarz e Philippe Langlet.Immancabile ma comunque doveroso ricordare l’impegno ed il sostegno della Provincia Autonoma di Trento, nella persona dell’assessore Franco Panizza, del comune di Riva del Garda, della Regione Trentino Alto Adige, dell’azienda di Promozione Turistica del Garda Trentino, della Federazione Corpi Bandistici di Trento ed al suo presidente Claudio Luchini, del Bim, bacini imbriferi montani Sarca Garda Mincio, della fondazione Caritro, del ministero beni e attività culturali. Un particolare ringraziamento alla Cassa Rurale Alto Garda, alla ditta Yamaha Music Europe nella persona di Gianbattista Corti, alla Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, alla fattiva collaborazione del Corpo Ban-distico Riva del Garda, alla parrocchia S. Giuseppe e a Don Luigi per averci gentilmente messo a disposizione la sala per il concerto inaugurale. With this 14th edition of our international band competition we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the Flicorno D’Oro Association. The Articles of Association signed by the found-ing members on 17th December 1991 started a musical event that over the years has progressively contributed to changing the Italian band panorama and widened the horizons of many musicians. Before that there had been no similar Italian experiences. Here I wish to remember the founder members, Milena Torboli, Claudio Molinari, Maria Cristina Fava, Remo Lutterotti, Enzo Bassetti, Giovanni Molinari, Mario Lutterotti, Giovanni Lechthaler, Gianni Caracristi and Giannina Moser. These include the first chairman of the competition, Giovanni Lechthaler, who was already at that time chairman of the Trentino Bands Federation. The first edition took place in 1992 and divided the competitors in four categories: Small, Medium, Large Bands and Brass Bands; these were transformed in 1995 to accommodate international competition canon: Excellence, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Category and Brass Band. In 2001 the Superior Category was introduced, placed between Excellence and the 1st Category. The professional approach in setting up the competition and the importance of the panels of judges involved each year have always been a strong point. Sincere thanks go to the Riva del Garda Band which throughout all the editions has worked hard in the wings, co-ordinated by the general organization of the event, as well as to the official sponsor which has supported us right from the start, first as Yamaha Musica Italia, now Yamaha Music Europe.We are delighted that this edition of the competition has attracted a very large number of partici-pants, 51 compared to 42 in 2011. For the first time there are more foreign bands taking part than Italian ones, a clear demonstration of the international dimension of the competititon (11 different nationalities are represented). This confirms the event as an encounter of different musical cultures that distinguish the contest and make it unique. On the opening night we will have the pleasure of attending the premier concent by the Koninklijke Harmonie Orpheus, conducted by Hardy Mertens in the auditorium of San Giuseppe.Maestro Daniele Carnevali is once again the Artistic Director and I wish him buon lavoro. Comple-mentary to the competition are many clinics that will enhance the importance of the event. My sincere thanks also go to the River Boys Band conducted by Maestro Giovanni Dalfovo for their commitment over a number of editions to accompany the announcement of the winners with an explosion of sparkling musical pieces. Mit der 14. Ausgabe des Wettbewerbs für Blasorchester feiern wir das 20. Gründungsjahr des Verbandes Flicorno d’Oro. Durch die Unterzeichnung des Statuts am 17. Dezember 1991 haben die Gründungsmitglieder ein musikalisches Event ins Leben gerufen, das im Laufe dieser Jahre ständig dazu beigetragen hat, das Panorama der italienischen Blasorchester zu verändern, indem vielen Musikern neue Horizonte geöffnet wurden. Vor diesem Zeitpunkt fehlten ähnliche Erfahrun-gen auf nationaler Ebene. Ich möchte hier auch die Gründungsmitglieder in Erinnerung bringen: Milena Torboli, Claudio Molinari, Maria Cristina Fava, Remo Lutterotti, Enzo Bassetti, Giovanni Molinari, Mario Lutterotti, Giovanni Lechthaler, Gianni Caracristi, Giannina Moser. Darunter der erste Präsident des Wettbewerbs, Giovanni Lechthaler, damals bereits Präsident des Trentiner Blasmusik Verband. Die erste Ausgabe fand 1992 statt, wo die eingeschriebenen Blasorchester in vier Kategorien unterteilt waren: kleine, mittelgroße und große Blasorchester und Brass Band; ab 1995 wurden die Kategorien geändert und den internationalen Wettbewerbsregeln angepasst: Höchststufe, Erste, Zweite und Dritte Kategorie und Brass Band. Ab 2001 wurde auch die Katego-

rie “Oberstufe” zwischen der Höchststufe und die Erste Kategorie eingeschoben. Der Wettbewerb zeichnet sich aus durch die ausgezeichnete Organisation und die berühmten, von Mal zu Mal neu zusammengesetzten, Jurien.Die künstlerische Leitung unterstand von 1991 bis 1993 Antonio Carlini und Daniele Carnevali, von 1994 bis 1997 Mario Lutterotti und Daniele Carnevali, von 1998 bis 2008 Marco Bazzoli und Carlo Pirola und von 2009 bis heute Daniele Carnevali.Die Vorsitzenden der Jury waren 1992: Riz Ortolani; 1993: Henk Van Lijnschooten; 1995: Henk van Lijnschooten; 1997: Franco Cesarini; 1999: Franco Cesarini; 2001: Jo Conjaerts; 2003: Jo Conjaerts; 2005: Johann Mösenbichler; 2007: Johann Mösenbichler; 2008: Andrè Waignein; 2009: Andrè Waignein; 2010: Andrè Waignein; 2011: Jacob de Haan; 2012: Donald Hunsberger und Fulvio Creux.Unser Dank geht auch an die Musikkapelle Riva del Garda, die im Laufe dieser Wettbewerbe immer hinter den Kulissen mitgewirkt und die allgemeine Organisation des Events unterstützt hat, sowie an den offiziellen Sponsor, von der ersten Ausgabe bis heute Yamaha Musica Italia, jetzt Yamaha Music Europe.Wir sind mit dieser Ausgabe des Wettbewerbs dank der großen Teilnehmerzahl sehr zufrieden; 51 Gruppen im Vergleich zu den 42 im Jahre 2011. Zum ersten Mal ist die Anzahl der ausländischen Teilnehmer größer als die der italienischen Musikkapellen, was beweist, dass es sich um einen echten internationalen Wettbewerb handelt (es sind elf Nationalitäten vertreten). Es wird daher wieder ein Treffen verschiedener musikalischer Kulturen vorgeschlagen, die dem Wettbewerb jene Besonderheit und Auszeichnung verleihen, die ihn einzigartig macht. Am Eröffnungsabend wird im Auditorium der Chiesa S. Giuseppe das Eröffnungskonzert mit der Koninklijke Harmonie Orpheus, dirigiert von Hardy Mertens, stattfinden.Die künstlerische Leitung untersteht weiterhin dem Maestro Daniele Carnevali, dem wir viel Erfolg wünschen. Am Rande des Wettbewerbs werden die vorgeschlagenen Treffen zur Vertiefung der einzelnen Aspekte das Event bereichern. Ein herzliches Dankeschön geht auch an die Musikkapelle der River Boys, unter der Leitung von Maestro Giovanni Dalfovo, die seit einigen Ausgaben mit ihrem lebhaften Repertoire die Bekanntgabe der Gewinner des Wettbewerbs einführen. Ich danke auch der Jury, bestehend aus den Musikern Hardy Mertens, Miguel Etchegoncelay, Michele Netti, Fulvio Creux, Donald Hunsberger, Otto M. Schwarz und Philippe Langlet.Des Weiteren möchte ich mich natürlich bei dieser Gelegenheit auch für den Einsatz und die Unter-stützung der Autonomen Provinz Trient, in Person der Landesrat Franco Panizza, der Gemeinde Riva del Garda, der Region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, des Touristenverbandes Garda Trentino, des Trentiner Blasmusik Verband und dessen Präsident Claudio Luchini, des Bim, “bacini imbriferi montani” (Gebirgseinzugsgebiete) Sarca Garda Mincio, des Ministerium für kulturelle Güter und Tätigkeiten bedanken. La musica è senz’altro una delle piattaforme culturali di più rilevante importanza nel vastissimo e articolato mondo delle attività culturali trentine. Importante per numero di praticanti di ogni età, di ogni classe sociale e provenienti da ogni territorio della nostra provincia, ma soprattutto per tradizione e per qualità. In questo vasto e variegato “mondo delle sette note”, quello delle “bande musicali” costituisce indubbiamente un capitolo che ha una sua ben precisa specificità e che merita un’attenzione particolare: la “magia” della banda, che è narrata in centinaia di racconti, film e romanzi, sta nella sua capacità di attrarre ancora oggi grandi e piccini grazie all’abilità di esecutori dilettanti i quali, però, s’impegnano al limite del professionismo. E ogni volta che ascoltiamo clarinetti, tamburi e grancasse, flicorni, trombe e cornette suonare assieme, è sempre una piacevole sorpresa per tutti noi.Vorrei qui pubblicamente ringraziare quei maestri, quei “direttori di banda” su cui pesa l’onere della preparazione degli orchestrali e della meticolosa selezione e costruzione dei vari pezzi da arrangiare con sensibilità, esperienza e originalità che rendono ogni complesso bandistico diverso da tutti gli altri. È proprio avvalendosi di questa solida tradizione diffusa in tutto il Trentino e che vanta ormai una storia più che secolare, che l’associazione “Flicorno d’Oro” torna sulla ribalta mondiale con un evento molto atteso: quel “Flicorno d’Oro” che ha già scritto pagine importanti nella storia della musica bandistica trentina, nazionale e internazionale.Riva del Garda anche quest’anno verrà promossa a capitale della musica suonata dalle bande: sarà per tutti l’occasione di ascoltare esecuzioni magistrali dei migliori complessi bandistici sulla scena, per applaudire i vincitori nelle singole categorie, ma soprattutto per gustare fino in fondo il piacere dell’ascolto e del coinvolgimento che solo una banda sa proporre.La Provincia autonoma di Trento è felice di sostenere iniziative come queste, perché siamo convinti che parte della nostra identità e della nostra offerta turistica più intelligente poggino proprio sulle eccellenze in campo musicale che tanti complessi bandistici sanno raggiungere, coinvolgendo persone di età e di estrazioni diverse in un’avventura culturale che costituisce un patrimonio prezioso per il Trentino di cui siamo orgogliosi.Sono grato agli organizzatori del “Flicorno d’Oro”, gli amici dell’Associazione Flicorno d’Oro, quelli del Corpo Bandistico Riva del Garda e i responsabili della Federazione dei Corpo Ban-distici della Provincia di Trento: è grazie a loro se sulle rive del Lago di Garda anche nel 2012 riecheggeranno le note dei flicorni, ma anche degli altri ottoni, dei clarinetti e dei sassofoni accompagnati da tamburi, timpani, piatti e grancasse.

Music is undoubtedly one of the most important cultural aspects of the vast and varied world of activities that take place in the Trento region. It is important due to the number of people of all ages involved, from all walks of life and all the territories in our province, but especially for tradition and quality.In this huge, variegated “world of the seven notes”, “musical bands” constitute a chapter with its own precise features and is worthy of special attention: the enchantment of a band, narrated by hundreds of stories, films and novels, lies in its ability to continue attracting young and old, even today, thanks to the skills of amateur players whose commitment is on a par with that of professionals. Every time we hear clarinets, drums and bass drums, flugelhorns, trumpets and cornets play together, it’s always an exciting surprise for all of us.I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly thank those maestros, those “band conductors” who carry the weight of preparing their musicians and meticulously selecting and constructing the pieces to be arranged with the sensitivity, experience and originality that makes every band dif-ferent from all the others.It is just because there is this sound tradition throughout the Trento region, with a centuries old history, that the “Flicorno d’Oro” Association returns to the world stage with the event everyone is waiting for: the “Flicorno d’Oro” that has already written important pages in the history of band music in Trento, Italy and abroad.This year Riva del Garda will once again be promoted to capital of band music: it will be an occasion for everyone to hear masterly renditions by the best bands on the scene and applaud the winners in each category, but above all to thoroughly enjoy the listening experience and involvement that only a band can give.The Autonomous Province of Trento is happy to support initiatives like this because we are convinced that part of our identity and our most intelligent tourism proposals are based on the excellence achieved by many bands, involving people of all ages and from all walks of life in a cultural adventure that is a valuable heritage for which we of the Trento region are proud.I am grateful to the organizers of the “Flicorno d’Oro”, our friends in the Flicorno d’Oro Asso-ciation, those in the Riva del Garda Band and the Trentino Bands Federation: it is thanks to them that in 2012 the notes of flugelhorns will once again sound on the shores of Lake Garda, together with the other brasses, clarinets and saxophones, accompanied by drums, kettledrums, cymbals and bass drums.

Die Musik ist zweifellos eine der wichtigsten Kunstrichtungen in der großen und vielseitigen Welt der kulturellen Tätigkeiten in Trentino. Bedeutend auf Grund der großen Zahl der Musikfreunde jeden Alters, jeder sozialen Klasse, die aus allen Gegenden unserer Provinz kommen, aber vor allem auf Grund der Tradition und Qualität.In dieser großen und vielseitigen “Welt der sieben Noten” stellen die Musikkapellen zweifelsohne ein Kapitel dar, das sehr spezifisch ist und besondere Aufmerksamkeit verdient: die “Magie” von Blasorchestern, von der in Hunderten von Erzählungen, Filmen und Romanen berichtet wird, begeistert auch heute noch Groß und Klein, dank des Könnens von Amateuren, die sich jedoch bis zur Grenze der Professionalität einsetzen. Und jedes Mal, wenn wir Klarinetten, Trommeln und große Trommeln, Flügelhorne, Trompeten und Kornetten zusammen spielen hören, ist es immer wieder eine schöne Überraschung für uns alle.Ich möchte hier öffentlich jenen Musiklehrern, jenen Dirigenten von Musikkapellen meinen Dank

aussprechen, auf denen die Last der Vorbereitung der Orchestermusiker und der sorgfältigen Auswahl und Konstruktion der verschiedenen Stücke ruht, die mit Sensibilität, Erfahrung und Originalität bearbeitet werden müssen, wodurch sich jede Musikkapelle von allen anderen unterscheidet.Und eben dank jener starken, im ganzen Trentino verbreiteten Tradition, die bereits mehrere Jahrhunderte zurückreicht, tritt der Verband “Flicorno d’Oro” auf weltweiter Ebene mit einem mit Begeisterung erwartetem Event wieder ins Rampenlicht: mit jenem “Flicorno d’Oro”, der bereits bei der Blasorchestermusik national und international große Geschichte gemacht hat.Riva del Garda wird auch dieses Jahr wieder zum Zentrum der Blasorchestermusik: es wird für alle die Gelegenheit sein, meisterhafte Ausführungen der besten Blasorchester aus der Szene zu hören, den Gewinnern in den verschiedenen Kategorien zu applaudieren, aber vor allem eine Gelegenheit, die Musik voll und ganz zu genießen und sich von den einzelnen Blasorchestern mitreißen zu lassen.Die Autonome Provinz Trient freut sich, Initiativen wie diese zu fördern, da wir davon überzeugt sind, dass ein Teil unserer Identität und unseres intelligenten Touristenangebots gerade auf den ausgezeichneten Leistungen im Bereich der Musik beruht, die viele Musikkapellen erreichen, indem sie Menschen jeden Alters und aus verschiedenen Schichten in ein kulturelles Abenteuer einbeziehen, das ein wertvolles Kulturgut für das Trentino darstellt, auf das wir stolz sind. Ich danke den Organisatoren des “Flicorno d’Oro”, den Freunden des Verbandes Flicorno d’Oro, denen der Musikkapelle Riva del Garda und den Leitern des Trentiner Blasmusik Verband: es ist ihr Verdienst, wenn auch 2012 an den Ufern des Gardasees die Noten der Flügelhorne ertö-nen werden, aber auch die der anderen Blechblasinstrumente, der Klarinetten und Saxophone, begleitet von Trommeln, Pauken und großen Trommeln.

Per avere un'immagine immediata, completa e trascinante della forza vera e profonda della musica consiglio una passeggiata nelle vie del centro storico di Riva del Garda nei giorni di svol-gimento del concorso bandistico internazionale Flicorno d'Oro, ovvero quest'anno dal 13 al 15 aprile: sarà l'occasione per verificare l'effetto contagioso e rigenerante di una grande festa in cui tantissime persone che amano la musica, provenienti da tanti Paesi del mondo, con l’occasione di un concorso si ritrovano in realtà per qualcosa di più. Per un momento di vicinanza, condivisione e festa in cui quello che è evidente a tutti è che i valori fondamentali della pacifica convivenza, dell’uguaglianza e –vorrei dire – della gioia sono trasversali a tutte le culture e a tutti i popoli. È quindi un onore prima ancora che un piacere se un simile momento si svolge proprio nella nostra città che da sempre, nella sua posizione felice, tappa verso Nord della grande via di comunicazione delle merci e delle idee che è stato il lago di Garda, si caratterizza proprio per l’apertura al confronto e alla convivenza, ma anche per una familiarità, una vicinanza e un amore per la musica che si traduce nella presenza di un Conservatorio – realtà inusuale in un centro di non grandi dimensioni quale il nostro – di una scuola musicale – la SMAG, Scuola musicale Alto Garda – e di numerosi appuntamenti di prestigio, tra i quali il Flicorno d’Oro ci è particolarmente caro. A nome mio, dell’amministrazione comunale e dei miei concittadini, quindi, porto a tutti i partecipanti l'augurio di una significativa, importante esperienza, della quale il ricordo confido associ la magia della musica alla bellezza di Riva del Garda.

To get an immediate full picture of the real deep-rooted force of music, take a walk through the historic town centre of Riva del Garda on the days when the international band competition, Flicorno d’Oro, is taking place, this year 13th to 15th April: it will give you the chance to see the contagious, regenerating effect of a great feast where a great many music lovers from different parts of the world get together, with the excuse of a competition, to experience something special. It is a chance to stay together, share and celebrate in an atmosphere that proves to everybody that the fundamental values of peaceful cohabitation, equality and – I’d like to add joy – cross over all cultures and all populations. We are therefore first and foremost honoured as well as pleased, that this event takes place in our city, which, due to Lake Garda’s advantageous position as a point on the route to the North of goods and ideas, has always been distinguished by its open mindedness, but also by familiarity with and love for music, witnessed by its Musical Academy (Conservatorio) – an unusual facility in a smaller city such as ours – its music school – and numerous prestigious events, these include the Flicorno d’Oro, of which we are particularly proud. On my own behalf, and that of the Municipality and my fellow citizens, I greet all participants and sincerely wish them a significant, important experience which will be remembered not only for the magic of music, but also for the beauty of Riva del Garda.

Um einen direkten, vollständigen und mitreißenden Eindruck der echten und tiefen Kraft der Musik zu erhalten, empfehle ich einen Spaziergang durch die Gassen der Altstadt von Riva del Garda während des internationalen Blasorchester-Wettbewerbs Flicorno d’Oro, der dieses Jahr vom 13. bis 15. April stattfindet: es wird eine Gelegenheit sein, die ansteckende und regenerie-rende Wirkung eines großen Festes zu empfinden, wo sich viele Musik liebende Menschen aus allen Ländern der Welt anlässlich eines Musik-Wettbewerbs treffen und sich eigentlich noch etwas mehr davon erwarten. Nähe, gemeinsames Erleben und ein Fest, bei dem es allen klar ist, dass die grundlegenden Werte des friedlichen Zusammenlebens, der Gleichberechtigung und – ich möchte sagen – der Freude, für alle Kulturen und alle Völker gleich sind. Es ist daher eine Ehre, mehr noch als eine Freude, wenn so ein Wettbewerb gerade in unserer Stadt stattfindet, die sich schon immer dank ihrer günstigen Lage an der großen Verbindungs-straße des Waren- und Ideenaustausches, was der Gardasee einst war, dafür auszeichnete, dass sie immer offen war für die Konfrontation und das Zusammenleben, aber auch eine gewisse Familiarität, eine Nähe und Liebe zur Musik aufwies, die sich im Konservatorium zeigt – einer unüblichen Realität in einer so kleinen Stadt, wie der unseren – in einer Musikschule – der SMAG, Scuola Musicale Alto Garda – und in zahlreichen bedeutenden Veranstaltungen, darunter der Wettbewerb Flicorno d’Oro, der uns besonders am Herzen liegt.In meinem Namen, im Namen der Gemeindeverwaltung und meiner Mitbürger wünsche ich daher allen Teilnehmern, dass dieser Wettbewerb für sie zu einem bedeutenden und schönen Erlebnis wird, das in der Erinnerung, so hoffe ich, die Magie der Musik mit der Schönheit von Riva del Garda vereint.

Il concorso Flicorno d'Oro, edizione 2012, rappresenta anche quest'anno un appuntamento importante per il mondo bandistico provinciale, nazionale e internazionale. Ciò è testimoniato, ancora una volta, dalla folta presenza di gruppi bandistici provenienti da tutt'Europa, conosciuti per la qualità musicale espressa. Ospitare in trentino una manifestazione così conosciuta e seguita da numerosi appassionati della cultura musicale è un vanto per tutti noi e fa del nostro territorio un punto di riferimento di centinaia di gruppi bandistici che per l’occasione si confrontano al fine di un miglioramento. Pertanto un meritato plauso è indirizzato a tutti gli organizzatori che in questi anni sono stati in grado di rinnovare questo straordinario momento d'incontro renden-dolo sempre più un punto di riferimento per tutti coloro che vogliono musicalmente migliorare.

The Flicorno d'Oro competition, 2012 edition, once again represents an important date for the provincial, national and international band universe. Proof of its importance is the number of top quality bands taking part from all over Europe. Hosting such a well-known event, which is attended by numerous music fans, in the Trento region is a feather in the cap for our territory, which becomes a point of reference for the hundreds of bands that meet on this occasion to enhance their performances.So well-deserved acknowledgement to all the organizers who over the years have renewed this extraordinary encounter, making it vitally important for those who dedicate their time to improv-ing their musical skills.

Der Wettbewerb Flicorno d'Oro, Ausgabe 2012 ist auch dieses Jahr ein wichtiger Anlass für die Welt der Blasorchester auf provinzieller, nationaler und internationaler Ebene. Beweis dafür ist noch einmal die zahlreiche Teilnahme von Blasorchestern aus ganz Europa, die für ihre erstklassigen Leistungen bekannt sind. Wir sind stolz darauf, eine so berühmte Veranstaltung, die von zahlreichen Musikliebhabern besucht wird, im Trentino zu Gast zu haben und freuen uns, bei dieser Gelegenheit Hunderte von Musikkapellen, die sich zum Zweck der Verbesserung miteinander konfrontieren, bei uns begrüßen zu dürfen. Diplomato al Conservatorio di Parma in tromba e strumentazione per banda, e in musica corale e direzione di coro al Conservatorio di Bologna. Ha poi seguito corsi di direzione d'orchestra con il Maestro Piero Guarino. Ha inizialmente svolto attività di trombettista in varie orchestre lirico-sinfoniche quali la "Arturo Toscanini" dell'Emilia Romagna ed altre, alternandola all'in-segnamento di Tromba e Trombone nei Conservatori di Parma e Modena.Contemporaneamente si dedica all'arrangiamento e trascrizione per formazioni varie di ottoni e alla musica originale per banda attraverso la quale si distingue in concorsi vincendo vari premi. Le sue composizioni spaziano nei vari generi musicali attraverso varie tipologie d'organico bandi-stico e differenti gradi di difficoltà, e per queste caratteristiche sono spesso utilizzate come brani d'obbligo nei concorsi in Italia ed in Francia. Ha collaborato con le case editrici Eridanea (MN), Molenaar (NL) e dal 1993 a tutt'oggi in modo continuativo ed esclusivo con Scomegna (TO).Le circa 30 composizioni sono state incise in più di 40 cd, 10 dei quali registrati dall'autore in Italia (ed. Scomegna) ed in Germania (ed. Carpe Diem). Ha diretto le bande di Sabbioneta (MN), G. Verdi città di Parma, i "101" di Fabbrico (RE), il Corpo bandistico di Albiano (TN), la Trentino Wind Band (TN - primo premio Valencia 1998) e come ospite alcune formazioni prestigiose come: Banda Esercito Italiana, Filarmonica G. Andreoli di Mirandola (MO), Civica di Soncino (CR- primo premio Flicorno d'oro 1999), "Euterpe" di Canicattini Bagni, "G. Verdi" cittadina di Trieste, Fiatinsieme (TO), Orchestre d'Harmonie du Val d'Aoste (AO), Wellington Winds e Wilfried Lauriel University (Canada), e ultimamente le bande universitarie di Jeju (Sud-Corea) e Tilburg (Olanda). Ha collaborato in concerto con solisti di fama come Roger Bobo, Velvet Brown, Steven Mead, Jacques Mauger, Clement Saunier, Paolo Russo, Andrew Dahlke ed altri giovani emergenti.Ha tenuto stages, seminari, corsi intensivi e continuativi in quasi tutte le regioni italiane e viene invitato regolamento nelle giurie di concorsi nazionali ed internazionali in vari Paesi europei e non (Spagna, Francia, Ungheria, Germania, Corea del Sud). He graduated in trumpet and band instrumentation at the Conservatory of Parma and in choral music and conduction at the Conservatory of Bologna. He was a trumpet player in various orches-tras such as Arturo Toscanini from Emilia Romagna and in the same time teacher at the Parma and Modena Conservatories. At the same time, he worked on trascription for brass ensemble and on original composition for band – for which he has won several prizes at competitions. He has worked for publishers as Eridanea (Mantova), Molenaar (Holland) and since 1993 he is a Scomegna composer (Turin). All of his 30 compositions have been recorded on more of 40 cd, 10 by himself in Italy (ed. Scomegna) and in Germany (ed.Carpe Diem). He has conducted several bands such as Sabbio-neta (MN), G. Verdi city of Parma,"101" of Fabbrico (RE), Corpo bandistico di Albiano (TN), Trentino Wind Band (TN - first prize Valencia 1998) and as guest conductor some prestigious bands like Banda Esercito Italiano, Filarmonica G. Andreoli of Mirandola (MO), Civica of Soncino (CR- first prize Flicorno d'Oro 1999), "Euterpe" of Canicattini Bagni, "G. Since 1987 he is teacher band instrumentation at the “Bonporti Conservatory” of Trento.

Daniele Carnevali hat am Konservatorium von Parma das Diplom Trompete und Instrumentie-rung für Musikkapellen erworben, sowie für Chormusik und Chorleitung am Konservatorium von Bologna. Er hat verschiedene Kurse Orchesterleitung bei Maestro Piero Guarino besucht. Zunächst spielte er die Trompete in verschiedenen Orchestern, worunter im Arturo Toscanini Orchester der Emilia Romagna, wechselte diese Tätigkeit aber ab mit dem Unterricht für Trom-pete und Posaune an den Musikhochschulen Parma und Modena. Gegenwärtig widmet er sich dem Arrangement und der Transkription für verschiedene Blasmusikformationen und der Origi-nalmusik für Musikkapelle, womit er sich in den Wettbewerben auszeichnet. Er komponiert für unterschiedliche Musikgenren und für die verschiedensten Gruppenzusammensetzungen; seine Kompositionen varieeren auch bezüglich Schwierigkeitsgrad und werden oft als Pflichtstück bei Wettbewerben in Italien und Frankreich eingesetzt. Er hat mit den Musikverlegern Eridanea (Mantova) und Molenaar (NL) zusammengearbeitet und ab 1993 veröffentlicht er ausschließlich bei Scomegna (Torino). Die 30 Kompositionen wurden auf mehr als 40 CD's herausgebracht, 10 davon nahm er in Italien (Musikverlag Scomegna) und in Deutschland (Musikverlag Carpe Diem) auf. Er hat folgende Blaskapellen geleitet: Musikkapelle Sabbioneta (Mantova), G. Donald Hunsberger è Direttore Emerito della Eastman Wind Ensemble (EWE), per la quale è stato direttore musicale dal 1965 al 2002. Ha anche il titolo di professore emerito di direzione di banda sempre alla Eastman, dove per molti anni è stato direttore del dipartimento di direzione di banda.Sotto la sua guida la Eastman Wind Ensemble ha continuato a proporsi come modello internazio-nale nella creazione di vari nuovi brani per banda di fiati, fornendo un esempio di primo piano delle tecniche di esecuzione contemporanee, come si dimostra dalle numerose registrazioni con la Sony Classics, CBS Masterworks, Mercury Records, DGG Records, Philips, Decca ed altre case discografiche. Nel 1987 le sue orchestrazioni e registrazioni del Carnevale con Wynton Marsalis e la Eastman Wind Ensemble hanno ottenuto una nomination per il Grammy Award come Best Solo Performance nella categoria Orchestra. Il suo ultimo progetto di registrazione con la EWE è un triplo CD (The Eastman Wind Ensemble at 50-DHWL 001CD-WBP) a celebrazione del 50° anniversario. Sotto la direzione di Hunsberger la EWE ha compiuto sei tournéè in Giappone e Taiwan tra il 1990 e il 2000, ed una in Giappone e nel Sud-est asiatico nel 1978 per l’Agenzia Kambara e il Dipartimento di Stato statunitense.Oltre ad eseguire più di 100 prime esecuzioni, Hunsberger ha partecipato a progetti di scrittura tra cui figurano i testi The Wind Ensemble and Its Repertoire (Warner Bros. Donald Hunsberger is conductor emeritus of the Eastman Wind Ensemble, having served as its music director from 1965 to 2002. He also holds the title professor emeritus of conducting and ensembles at Eastman, where he served for many years as chair of the conducting and ensembles department.Under his leadership, the Eastman Wind Ensemble continued its development as an international performance model in the creation of numerous new works for the wind band, providing a prime example of contemporary performance techniques as demonstrated on numerous recordings on Sony Classics, CBS Masterworks, Mercury Records, DGG Records, Philips, and Decca among others. In 1987 his scores and recording of Carnaval featuring Wynton Marsalis with the East-man Wind Ensemble were nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Solo Performance with Orchestra category. His most recent recording project with the EWE is a three-CD set (The Eastman Wind Ensemble at 50-DHWL 001CD-WBP) celebrating its 50th anniversary. Under Hunsberger’s direction the EWE performed on six tours of Japan and Taiwan between 1990 and 2000, and one throughout Japan and Southeast Asia in 1978 for the Kambara Agency and the U.S. State Department.In addition to performing over 100 premiere performances, Hunsberger had been involved in writing projects including the books The Wind Ensemble and Its Repertoire (Warner Bros. His research into the history and development of scoring for wind bands in America has led to numerous articles in WindWorks, a journal for wind conductors, performers and composers.He has been the recipient of a number of awards for research (Homespun America: The National Association for State and Local Historians), pedagogy (the Eastman Alumni Teaching Award and Herbert Eisenhart Award; Wiley Housewright Fellow, Florida State University), and per-formance (the Crystal Award from the Asahi Broadcasting Company, Osaka, Japan; the Ehud Eziel Award, Jerusalem, Israel).He is a past president of the College Band Directors National Association and has served as a member of the boards of CBDNA, the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, and the Conductor’s Guild.In the orchestral world Hunsberger has created and conducted performances of orchestral accompaniments to over 18 silent films with 50 orchestras including the National, San Fran-cisco, Houston, Vancouver, Utah, Virginia, San Diego, Syracuse and North Carolina Symphony Orchestras, and the Rochester, Buffalo, and Calgary Philharmonic Orchestras among others.

Donald Hunsberger ist Chefdirigent Emeritus des Eastman Wind Ensemble (EWE), dass er von 1965 bis 2002 leitete. Er erhielt auch den Titel Professor Emeritus für Blasorchesterdirektion, immer bei der Eastman, wo er viele Jahre Leiter der Abteilung Blasorchesterdirektion war.

Unter seiner Führung blieb das Eastman Wind Ensemble weiterhin ein internationales Modell und schuf diverse neue Stücke für Blasorchester. Es lieferte ein erstklassiges Beispiel für moderne Ausführtechniken, wie aus zahlreichen Aufzeichnungen hervorgeht, unter anderem mit der Sony Classics, CBS Masterworks, Mercury Records, DGG Records, Philips, Decca. Im Jahre 1987 erzielten seine Orchestrierungen und Registrationen des Carnevale mit Wynton Marsalis und dem Eastman Wind Ensemble eine Nomination für den Grammy Award als Best Solo Performance in der Orchesterkategorie. Sein letztes Projekt mit EWE ist die Registrierung eines 3 CD Set (The Eastman Wind Ensemble, at 50-DHWL 001CD-WBP) anlässlich des 50. Jahrestages. Unter der Leitung von Hunsberger machte EWE im Zeitraum von 1990 und 2000 sechs Tourneen in Japan und Taiwan und eine in Japan und Südostasien im Jahre 1978 für die Agentur Kambara und das amerikanische Außenministerium.Abgesehen von mehr als 100 Premieren nahm Hunsberger an Schreibprojekten teil, darunter die Texte The Wind Ensemble and Its Repertoire (Warner Bros. Pub.), The Art of Conducting (mit Roy Ernst, Random House), The Emory Remington Warmup Studies (Accura Music), und publizierte diverse Artikel in didaktischen Zeitschriften. Er erhielt Anerkennungen in diversen Publikationen für seine innovativen Orchestriertechniken für verschiedene Instrumente des modernen Blasorchesters. Miguel Etchegoncelay è nato a Porteña, provincia di Cordoba, in Argentina. Ha studiato tromba, composizione e direzione al Conservatorio Musicale di Cordoba, presso l’Università Nazionale di Cordoba in Argentina, all’Istituto Superiore Europeo Bandistico (ISEB) di Trento, Italia, e al Conservatorio Musicale di Zurigo, Svizzera. Miguel Etchegoncelay was born in Porteña, Province of Cordoba, Argentina. He studied trum-pet, composition and conducting at Cordoba’s Conservatory of Music and Cordoba’s National University, Argentina, at the European Institute for Band Studies (ISEB) in Trento, Italy, and at the Zurich Conservatory of Music, in Switzerland. Among his teachers were Carlos Giraudo, Vicente Moncho, Franco Cesarini, Felix Hauswirth and Jan Cober. He took part in wind conducting seminars of renowned conductors such as Eugene Corporon and Tim Reynish.He appears regularly as guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator in France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia and Spain.

Hardy Mertens (Nieuwenhagen, 1960) studied musicology at the Utrecht University as well as composition and band conducting at the Utrecht Music Conservatory. He started his musical career as a clarinettist and arranger in the Netherlands Royal Military Band but later became known worldwide as a composer and conductor. At present he teaches band conducting at the Tilburg Conservatory and conducts the Netherlands Police Orchestra as well as several Dutch community bands with which he has won numerous championships. Hardy Mertens has played an active role as guest conductor, clinician and lecturer particularly in Singapore and Italy and he also has had occasional engagements as guest conductor in USA, Canada, Israel, Hong Kong and many European countries. This complexity usually results in a high grade of dif-ficulty and sometimes this causes controversy with conductors and musicians. Occasionally Hardy Mertens also composes and arranges in the field of light music. Several of these composition have achieved favourable position in the Dutch hit charts.

Otto M. Schwarz trascorre l’adolescenza a Wimpassing, a sud di Vienna, dove vive tuttora. Riceve un’educazione musicale all’Accademia della Musica di Vienna, dove studia tromba con il Professor Josef Pomberger dell’Orchestra Filarmonica viennese e composizione col Professor Heinz Kratochwil. Durante questo periodo scrive le prime composizioni di musica leggera. Nel 1992 crea un suo studio di registrazione dove produrrà più di mille brani. Attualmente compone jingles pubblicitari, incisi musicali e colonne sonore di film per la ORF (televisione austriaca) e per molte altre emittenti radiofoniche e televisive. Koninklijke Harmonie Orpheus

La banda olandese Koninklijke Harmonie Orpheus vanta una ricca storia piena di successi. L’orchestra è stata fondata il 15 settembre 1864. In occasione del suo 90° anniversario, nel 1954 le è stato conferito il titolo di Reale quale riconoscimento per il suo prezioso servizio alla città di Tilburg.Nel 1948 l’orchestra ha partecipato al suo primo concorso musicale di Primo Livello e nel 1951 Orpheus è stata il primo Campione Nazionale in questa categoria. Questo successo si è ripetuto nel 1995. Altri successi internazionali sono stati ottenuti al Concorso Musicale UNESCO di Vichy, Francia, dove Orpheus ha vinto sia nel 1951 che nel 1959. Dal 1983 in poi l’orchestra ha vinto il primo premio con lode in tutti i concorsi musicali a cui ha partecipato.Nel 1996 Orpheus è stato promossa alla sezione Concerto. In questa categoria superiore Orpheus ha partecipato alla 13a edizione del Concorso Mondiale per Bande Musicali di Kerkrade. Koninklijke Harmonie Orpheus (KHO) has a rich and successful history. The orchestra was founded on 15 September 1864. On its 90th anniversary in 1954, it was granted the title Royal in recognition of its outstanding service to the city of Tilburg. In 1948, the orchestra entered its first music contest in the first division and, in 1951, Orpheus became the first National Champion in this category. This success was repeated in 1995. Inter-national successes were celebrated during the UNESCO Music Contest in Vichy, France, when Orpheus won on all counts in both 1951 and 1959. From 1983 onwards, the orchestra won first prize with honours at every music contest in which they competed. In 1996, Orpheus was promoted to the Concert division. In this highest category, Orpheus entered the 13th edition of the World Music Contest at Kerkrade. They gave an excellent performance, receiving 341.5 points, and resulting in a first prize with a commendation of Outstanding. Orpheus achieved fourth place in the world ranking. In the KNFM-music contests of 2003 and 2007, Orpheus won first prize with honours on both occasions. In addition, they reached a first place in the national top of the “Vaandel” division and received the KNFM Honorary Diploma. Koninklijke Harmonie Orpheus currently has 70 members. Since 2002, the orchestra has been

Il gruppo The River Boys, diretto da M° Giovanni Dalfovo, nasce a Mezzolombardo (TN) nel 2000 grazie ad un gruppo di genitori della zona che fondarono l'associazione omonima allo scopo di diffondere la cultura musicale nel mondo giovanile e non, di ampliare la conoscenza della musica e trasmettere l'amore per la musica a tutte le persone che con essa vengono a contatto.Il gruppo nasce con l'intento di preparare un repertorio musicale moderno e adatto alle possibilità dei musicisti che lo compongono e comprensibile ad un pubblico di ogni età.Da allora numerosi successi e risultati grazie all'impegno di tutti – musicisti, soci, sostenitori – e al sostegno dell'amministrazione comunale che ha capito e sostenuto il progetto e grazie anche al Maestro Giovanni Dalfovo, giovane e grande esperto, che ha fatto crescere i mini musicisti di Mezzolombardo portandoli ad un buon livello strumentale e d'assieme.Obiettivo per il futuro è continuare a far crescere i giovani musicisti e consegnare a loro una associazione viva ed aperta a tutti coloro che vogliono avvicinarsi alla musica nella consapevo-lezza che la musica è passione, divertimento e soddisfazione.

The River Boys, led by Maestro Giovanni Dalfovo, was set up in 2000 at Mezzolombardo (Trento) by a local group of parents who founded the association of the same name to bring musical culture to young and old alike and spread knowledge and love of music to all those who come into contact with it.The group was established with the idea of preparing a modern repertoire suitable for the talent of its musicians and attractive to listeners of all ages.Since then the group has achieved success and excellent results, thanks to the commitment of everyone – musicians, members, sponsors – and the backing of the local authority, whose councillors understand and support the project, and thanks also to Giovanni Dalfovo, a young truly expert leader who has matured the mini musicians of Mezzolombardo, leading them to play well together.

Die Band The River Boys unter der Leitung von Maestro Giovanni Dalfovo, entstand im Jahr 2000 in Mezzolombardo (TN) auf Initiative einiger Eltern, die einen Verein mit dem gleichen Namen gründeten. Damit wollten sie die Jugendlichen – und nicht nur Jugendliche – der Musik-kultur näher bringen, deren Musikkenntnisse erweitern und ihnen und allen Freunden und Bekannten vor allem die Liebe zur Musik vermitteln.Die Band spielt ein modernes Repertoire, das den Fähigkeiten der Musiker entspricht und einem weitgefassten Publikum zugänglich ist.The River Boys haben zahlreiche Erfolge und gute Resultate erzielt, dank des unermüdlichen Einsatzes aller – der Musiker, Mitglieder, Fans - und der Unterstützung seitens der Gemeinde-verwaltung. ROBERT JAGER, CONCERTO FOR BAND Il CONCERTO PER BANDA è un’opera ad un movimento suddivisa in quattro sezioni distinte: un’introduzione, una sezione veloce che sviluppa il tema, una sezione più lenta e malinconica e una sezione finale veloce e riassuntiva. Vi sono tre elementi fondamentali del Concerto che stanno alla base dell’opera. Il primo è il motivo di apertura a sette note; il secondo è la figura tripla introdotta dai flauti e dai clarinetti, ed il terzo è costituito dalla figura di quattro note dei timpani anch’essa presente in apertura. L’intero Concerto trae origine da questi elementi ed in effetti può essere definito un ampio movimento di sviluppo.Il CONCERTO PER BANDA è stato scritto tra il luglio 1979 e l’ottobre 1980. E’ la settima opera tra quelle commissionate dall’Ithaca College in memoria di Walter Beeler, ex direttore dell’Ithaca College Wind Ensemble. E’ stata eseguito per la prima volta all’Ithaca College il 4 aprile 1981, sotto la direzione del compositore.

The CONCERTO FOR BAND is a one-movement work in four distinct sections: an intro-duction; a fast, driving developmental section; a lyric, yet melancholy slow section, and a fast final section that serves to reprise the material used and to sum up the composition.There are three basic elements in the Concerto that are used as the basis of the work. The first is the opening motive of seven notes; the second is the triplet figure first stated by the flutes and clarinets in the opening measures, and the third is the timpani four-note figure also state in the opening measures. The entire Concerto is developed from these elements, and in fact, the Concerto can be said to be one large developmental movement.The CONCERTO FOR BAND was written between July 1979 and October 1980. It is the seventh work in the series of commissions extended by Ithaca College in memory of Walter Beeler, former conductor of the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble. It was first performed at Ithaca College on April 4, 1981, with the composer conducting.

SEBASTIANO VITALITI(arr. DAVID WHITWELL), LA CORONA D’ITALIAQuest’originale sinfonia per banda è stata dedicata a Umberto I, re d’Italia, che ha regnato dal 1878 al 1900. Vitaliti era il Maestro di musica della città di Giarre, in provincia di Catania. E in questa città ha composto due operette che sono state rappre-sentate a Catania (1887) e a Napoli (1888).Il manoscritto originale non era stato composto per sassofoni, ma questi sono stati aggiunti in modo lievemente percepibile, per far sì che i musicisti possano sperimentare questo esempio insolito, ma ben riuscito, del repertorio bandistico italiano. Abbiamo anche sostituito l’originale flauto con l’oboe.

This original symphony for band was dedicated to Umberto I, King of Italy, who reigned from 1878 to 1900. Vitaliti was the ‘Maestro di musica’ in the town of Giarre, Catania, in Italy. There he was an active music teacher and composed two operettas which were performed in Catania (1887) and Naples (1888).The original manuscript was not scored for saxophones, but they are added inconspicu-ously here in order that those musicians can experience this unusually fine example of the Italian band repertoire. We have also substituted the oboe for the original Eb flute.

FEDERICO AGNELLO, MOYSES“Moyses” è un poema descrittivo ispirato al racconto biblico dell’esodo. La composi-zione, dal carattere mutevole, si presenta a volte maestosa, a volte divertente, talora oscura e dolorosa. Una caratteristica peculiare di questo lavoro è data dall’uso da parte dell’orchestra di particolari percussioni, quali fruste, martelli, catene e piedi sbattuti a terra, utilizzate per ricreare i suoni e l’atmosfera dei campi di lavoro forzato nei quali degli israeliti erano ridotti in schiavitù dagli Egizi. Secondo la tradizione, Mosè nacque dagli israeliti Amram e Iochebed. Scampato alla persecuzione voluta dal faraone grazie alla madre che, nel tentativo di salvarlo, lo abbandonò in una cesta sulle acque del Nilo, venne salvato dalla figlia di quest’ultimo ed educato alla corte egizia. Fuggì da essa a seguito d’un omicidio commesso ai danni di un sorvegliante e si ritirò nel paese di Madian dove sposò Zippora, figlia del sacerdote locale. Secondo la Bibbia nei pressi del monte Oreb ricevette la chiamata di Dio e, tornato in Egitto, affrontò il faraone chiedendo la liberazione del popolo d’Israele dalla schiavitù; questi accoglierà la sua proposta a seguito delle dieci piaghe d’Egitto, ultima delle quali la morte dei primogeniti egiziani. Accampatosi con i suoi nei pressi del mar Rosso, Mosè, su indicazione divina, divise le acque del mare permettendo così al suo popolo di attraversarlo e sommergendo infine l’esercito faraonico corso ad inseguirli. Dopo tre mesi di viaggio il profeta rag-giunse il monte Sinai dove ricevette le Tavole della Legge e punì la parte del suo popolo che si macchiò con il peccato del vitello d’oro. Finalmente giunti in prossimità della terra promessa, Mosè salì sul monte Nebo dove Dio gli parlò per l’ultima volta: “questa è la terra promessa al tuo popolo. Io la darò alla tua discendenza. Io te l’ho fatta vedere, ma tu non vi entrerai” e con queste parole nel cuore, Mosè morì senza mai entrarvi.

“Moyses” is a descriptive poem based on the account of the Biblical exodus. The com-position has a diversified character, which appears sometimes majestic and sometimes amusing, or obscure and sorrowful. A distinctive feature of this piece is the peculiar use of percussions and sound effects produced with whips, hammers, chains, and foot-stomping to recreate noises and atmosphere of the forced-labor camps where the Egyptians enslaved the Hebrews. According to the tradition, Moses, the son of the Hebrews Amram and Jochebed, escaped the Pharaoh’s persecution thanks to his mother who intentionally abandoned him in a basket floating on the Nile’s water. Saved by the Pharaoh’s daughter, he was raised and educated at the court of the Egyptian royal fam-ily. After killing a slave-master, Moses fled to the village of Midian, where he married Zipporah, the daughter of the local priest. The Bible says that one day when Moses was near Mount Horeb, God commanded him to go to Egypt and ask the Pharaoh to deliver his fellow Hebrews from bondage. He went and, eventually, the Pharaoh ordered the Hebrews to leave Egypt after the Ten Plagues, the tenth of which culminated in the slaying of the Egyptian male first-borns. Moses led his people away and they camped

near the Red Sea, where, guided by God, he divided the waters so that they could safely pass across on dry ground. When the Egyptian army attempted to follow, God permitted the waters to return upon them and drown them. After traveling for three months, the prophet reached the top of Mount Sinai where he received the Ten Commandments. Then, he punished those among his people who were involved in the sin of the Golden Calf. Finally, once they arrived near the Promised Land, Moses went up to Mount Nebo and there God spoke to him for the last time: “This is the land that I promised to your people. I will give it to your offspring. I let you look at it, but you will not be permit-ted to enter it.” With these words in his heart, Moses died without ever arriving there.

Gaming is hot. Not only kids play games, also older people are infected by (online) gaming. The Gamer is the story about a young boy, caught by the game. He plays online and needs to conquer land. He crosses many continents and various countries. During his quest he encounters warriors that he needs to fight. But it’s not all physical combats, he also needs to be inventive and to use his “charm” to gather information that could enable him to succeed his mission. The composer takes you on a trip through endless heights, ambushes, beautiful sceneries, romance and combats.

MICHELE MANGANI, FRIULI’S FOLK SONGS AND DANCESBrano vincitore del "1° Concorso Internazionale di Composizione per Banda" su Villotte Friulane di Udine nel 2005, Friuli's Folk Songs And Dances si basa su tre temi di questi canti popolari, che sono utilizzati come materiale tematico principale. La composizione è divisa in tre sezioni: la prima si apre con l'esposizione del tema Biel vignint da l'Ongja-rie, che viene poi sviluppato e variato melodicamente e armonicamente. Un cambio di tonalità e il rintocco della campana apre la seconda parte (Ai preât la biele stele) con un tema lento e cantabile esposto dai corni e poi ripreso dalle varie sezioni della banda, con continue variazioni armoniche. La terza parte (Su la plui alte cime), veloce e in tempo composto, inizia con un tabourin affidato a flauti e ottavino. La melodia si sviluppa freneticamente, passando da uno strumento ad un altro, rincorrendosi con imitazioni canoniche. Molto interessante è la sovrapposizione, nel finale, del primo tema come elemento contrappuntistico. Grande cura e attenzione si ha anche nell'orchestrazione, sempre alla ricerca di sonorità particolari che valorizzano tutto l'organico della banda.

In 2005 this piece won the "1° Concorso Internazionale di Composizione per Banda su Villotte Friulane" (1st international band composition competition for Villotte Friulane), held in Udine. "Fruili's Folk Songs and Dances" is based on three themes from these folk songs, which provide the main subject-matter. The work is divided into three sec-tions: the first opens on the theme from Biel vignint da l'Ongjarie, which is developed with a series of melodic and harmonic variations. A change of tone and the tolling of a bell introduce the second part (Ai preât la biele stele). This features a slow, cantabile theme played by the horns, which is then repeated by the various sections of the band, with continuous harmonic variations. The third part (Su la plui alte cime), with its fast, compound time, starts with a tabourin by the flutes and piccolo. The melody develops feverishly, moving from one instrument to another in canon form. In the finale the overlapping of the opening theme, which is used as a contrapuntal element, creates an interesting effect. Great care and attention have also been paid to orchestration and to creating special sounds that exploit the potential of the whole band.
