It was born in 2013 and it brings together 43 different facilities (Bed and Breakfast and House and Rent Rooms) situated around Taranto, which aims to promote and develop Jonian territory through family-run accomodation with passion, professionalism and qualified service.

The association aims to retrace Taranto former glory and to promote a tourist knowledge and peculiarities.

Le origini di Taranto sono antichissime e numerosi reperti archeologici attestano la frequentazione del territorio già nel IV millennio a.C. Secondo gli storici la città fu fondata nel 706 a.C. da coloni provenienti dalla città greca di Sparta. Nei secoli successivi, grazie alla sua posizione strategica, divenne uno dei porti più importanti del Mediterraneo e ancora oggi rappresenta uno degli scali principali di tutte le rotte mediterranee. Divenuta una delle principali città della Magna Grecia Taranto fu molte volte coinvolta in guerre per la sua conquista. La straordinarietà del territorio consiste nella presenza delle tracce lasciate dalle più note civiltà. Capolavoro storico è il borgo antico con tutte le sue stratificazioni che consentono la lettura delle vicissitudini susseguitesi nei millenni.

The origins of Taranto are ancient and numerous archaeological finds attest that the territory was already frequented in the IV millennium B.C. According to some historians the city was founded in 706 B.C. from settlers coming from the Greek city of Sparta. In the following centuries, thanks to its strategic position, Taranto became one of the most important harbors of the Mediterranean Sea and today it is one of the principal ports of all the Mediterranean routs. Taranto became one of the principal cities of Great Greece and a lot of times was in the center of wars for possession and after Romans domination, it inexorably decayed when the empire collapsed. In the Angevin-Aragonese period the city was strengthened in orther to prevent Turkish raids. In this period there were few religious constructions. All the most imposing fortifications in the old city were destroyed by Regal Decree of the king Vittorio Emanuele II of Savoia. Old Town is a masterpiece, maze of alleys and coffer of ancient traditions, where it is possible to find humble dwellings and aristocratic Spanish style palaces, popular chapels and majestic churches and convents. Romanesque style and the Baroque one are well evident in the Norman epoch in front of the St. Cataldo’s Cathedral. Inside, it is divided into three aisles, separated by columns with capitals of various origin. Particularly picturesque to the mosaic on the floor and St. Cataldo’s Chapel, that guards the relics of the Saint Cataldo. The trip around the churches of Taranto is a real walk on the tracks of the spirituality, going from the Cathedral to the imposing Church “Maria SS. Del Monte Carmelo”, up to the Crypt of the “Redentore”, one of the most important monuments in the New Town. Not to be missed the National Archaeological Museum M.A.R.T.A. that guards the famous “Golds of Taranto”, testimony of the goldsmith’s workmanship of Great Greece. Aragonese Castle deserves a visit; it is a splendid construction overlloking out the sea, commissioned by Ferdinando of Aragon toward the end of the XV century. It was built on the bases of a Norman-Swabian- Angevin structure realized to protect the city.

Descrizione: Il B&B si trova all’interno di un palazzo, completamente restaurato che si affaccia sull’ariosa e animata Piazzetta San Francesco di fronte all’ex Convento di San Francesco del XVIII secolo, sede dell’Università. Nella deliziosa sala comune si può leggere uno dei libri messi a disposizione per gli ospiti, sfogliare una monografia sulla storia della città, e, a qualunque orario, gustarsi un caffè o un tè, o bere una bevanda fresca. Nelle camere, oggetto di restauro conservativo, sono state mantenute le travi in legno ed è visibile la muratura originale e l’antica conduttura dell’acqua piovana in terracotta. Il bed & breakfast è arredato con estrema accuratezza, accostando pezzi d’epoca con soluzioni originali ed inaspettate.
