egesta proudly guards the remains of the Elymian city, of an extraordinary Doric temple (Vcentury B.C), a Hellenistic amphitheatre and some strong fortifications, and is today one of themost important archaeological sites of Sicily. The remains of a sanctuary (VI-V century B.C.)can be found in Mango district. On the summit of the mountain, there are the remains of aMuslim village with mosques and Norman and Swabian settlements with a castle.

he Calatafimi territory, among the most fertile of the region, yields every kind of agriculturalproducts including cereals, pulses, oil and a noteworthy variety of fruit. Exports include wine andcitrus fruit among which is the fine Ovaletto di Calatafimi orange, which keeps the fruit on theplant until June. The craft made production of biscuits, cheese, and dairy products, sauces andcondiments for the typical Mediterranean cuisine is flanked by the cultivation of mushrooms.
