An historic eventthat over the years has become one and the samewith the Ligurian city, attracting and capturing theinterest of the entire nautical world.From 21 to 26 September 2017, the most extensiveand comprehensive boat show of the Mediterraneanis ready to welcome sea enthusiasts from all overthe world, which goes even beyond the boat showwith the GenovaInBlu events. Visitors at the SaloneNautico International Boat Show can live theirpassion for the sea and water sports firsthand, testboats and take part in countless special activities.

Genova “La Superba” – theproud and magnificent city,as it was once known – is acity of art thanks to its monu-ments, but it is also a city

steeped in tradition. To value this tradition, Genoa’sMunicipality, the Chamber of Commerce, the Re-gional Directorate of the Italian Ministry for Cultureand Tourism, the Superintendence, Genoa’s TradeAssociations and Craft Guilds made a list of Old-World Shops. These shops – which developed asa bourgeois phenomenon between 1800s and1900s – are not “monuments”; however, they de-fine the urban identity of the city. A few of theseshops are home to real treasures, furnishings, olddocuments and photographs, antique machineryand work tools, not to mention the fine setting inwhich they are located. 39 shops have obtainedthe acknowledgement we are presenting here sofar, “living monuments” testifying to the fine threadlinking the modern city of Genoa with its past.

The shop is inside the Carmelitani Scalzi monastery was foundedin 1584 by Nicolò Doria and has been active since 1650. It is char-acterized by barrel ceilings, glazed walnut shelves dating back tothe XVIII century, grey and white marble floor. State-of-the-arttechnologies are used. The chemist’s shop still sells galenical andphytotherapeutic products.

This shop was opened in 1814 even though the company had beenworking since 1780. Tommaso Moretti opened a wine shop in 1906. In 1946 GelindoSgrazzutti started working there, and in 1977 he and his son Gian-carlo took over the shop. The wine shop still has its original sheetmetal sign and windows. The interior features the original seven-teenth-century floors and vaulted ceilings, with early twentieth cen-tury wooden countertops, cabinets and shelves.

An inn opened in Bavari in 1913 by Maria Canepa, whose husbandwas known as “il Giallo”, the yellow man, because of the colour ofhis hair and moustache. It is now run by Maria’s great-granddaugh-ter, Luigina. The interior, renovated in the 1960s, preserves the orig-inal tables, sideboard and kneading-trough and utensils such asmortars and pestles, wooden blowpipes and copper baking.

Antique utensils include an old scale and a raredevice for holding eggs up to the light to check their freshness.
