Il grande imperatore dell’India, organizza presso il Teatro Quirinetta la rassegna cinematografica Bollywood Film Meeting Roma. Alla vigilia delle celebrazioni per i cento anni del cinema indiano, che si terranno nel 2013, l’evento offre uno sguardo sulla Bollywood contemporanea, presentando una selezione di lungometraggi prodotti recentemente negli studi di Mumbai. Si tratta di opere di alto valore artistico e di grande successo di critica e di pubblico, espressione sia del cinema mainstream sia di quello indipendente. Tradizionalmente conosciuta per le sue prevedibili trame romantiche, la Bollywood delle grandi case di produzione sta oggi vivendo una fase di radicale evoluzione, che porta i registi a sperimentare linguaggi, tematiche e stili diversi. Contemporaneamente si assiste alla crescita del cinema indipendente, già ribattezzato “Hindie” (dalla fusione tra “hindi” e “Indie” - termine usato per definire il cinema indipen- dente), le cui nuove tendenze attirano sempre più l’interesse dei grandi festival internazionali. La Rassegna mette pertanto in luce le diverse facce della recente cinematografia bollywoodiana, proponendo una scelta di film particolarmente rappresentativa dei diversi generi cinematografici. In particolare si segnala lo spettacola- re film Jodhaa Akbar (2008) sulla vita dell'imperatore, di Ashu- tosh Gowariker. La Rassegna, ideata da Gian Carlo Calza, è curata da Sabrina Ciolfi, indologa ed esperta di cinema indiano presso l’Università degli Studi di Milano. On the eve of the celebrations of the centenary of Indian cinema, to be held in 2013, this event offers a general glance at contemporary Bollywood, showing a selection of feature films recently produced in Mumbai. These works of high artistic value have been very successful amongst the public and critics and are an expression of both mainstream and independent cinema. Traditionally known for predictable romantic plots, the large production houses of Bollywood are now experiencing a period of radical evolution which has led their directors to experiment different languages, themes and styles. At the same time, the so called ‘Hindie’ (a contraction of Hindi and Indie) films have increased and their new trends increasingly attract the interest of important international festivals. The review therefore highlights various aspects of the modern Bollywood productions that particularly represent the various film genres and will include the spectacular film Jodhaa-Akbar (2008) on the life of the Emperor, by Ashutosh Gowariker. The Bollywood review, an idea by Gian Carlo Calza, is curated by Sabrina Ciolfi, Indologist and connoisseur of Indian films at the Università degli Studi in Milan. B O L L Y W O O D
