Quindi, tutti in pista!
Welcome back to the home of winter triathlon! It’s the fourth year in succession we meet in Flassin
where it’s no longer strange to see athletes who run, cycle and ski on the snow.
The event you are taking part in was born in 2005 when, with courage and a bit of madness, a race took place between great
champions and about one hundred of experts and beginners. In 2006 there was the Elite, Junior and Age Group Italian
Championship with 150 athletes coming from all Italy. 2007 was the World Championship year: it was a record with 300 athletes with 21 different nationalities. From the organisation
point of view, the effort was big, almost exaggerated for our resources, and weather conditions were not favourable.
But it did not lower the will to go on… Thus in 2008 there is going to be a double meeting: the Italian
Championship and the trial World Cup, wanted by the ITU to make Flassin a sort of Italian point of reference
for the international winter triathlon. We hope you enjoy Alta Valle del Gran San Bernardo.
Here the conditions for this sport are wonderful: tracks always perfect and ideal routes to run and cycle.
Besides, in Coumba Freida the local authority shows great interest for a so-called minor sport, volunteers have skills and
enthusiasm and there is a Foyer de Fond, which is an important place for every winter event.
This year’s race is having the same start, distance and route for all, so that all the athletes, amateurs or champions, are
competing together. We wish you a good Winter Triathlon Gran San Bernardo,
hoping to grow and improve!
