La spiritualità del Prezioso Sangue è ben fondata, ben documentata,satura la vita della Chiesa.

Attraverso i secoli, la spiritualità del Prezioso Sangue è stata essenziale per la vita della Chiesa mentre Dio ha mandato messaggeri come profeti e santi a promuovere il suo piano di riconciliarci a se stesso attraverso il Sangue della Croce. Comunità, Religiose e di Vita Apostolica, hanno punteggiato la vita della Chiesa secondo i bisogni dei tempi per ricordare a tutti il disegno di Dio e la potenza e ricchezza di tale spiritualità.

Il calendario per il 2014 riporta l’insegnamento ufficiale di alcuni dei successori di Pietro, che addita il Sangue di Cristo come il tesoro da essere comunicato alla chiesa universale, perché tutti vedano e credano. Il Papa Clemente I ha scritto: “Fissiamo il nostro sguardo al Sangue di Cristo per capire come sia prezioso, vedendo che è stato versato per la nostra salvezza e che ha generato la grazia della conversione al mondo intero.”1 San Gaspare non lo vide come una delle devozioni, ma quella che racchiude tutte le altre, una teologia universale che “porta nuova vita ai principi, alle pratiche e glorie della religione.”2 Papa Giovanni XXIII sperava che i Cristiani “meditassero su questo più ferventemente…[e] “la loro meditazione sulla potenza infinita del Sangue fosse immersa nella luce di retti insegnamenti biblici e la dottrina dei Padri e Dottori della Chiesa.” 3

Testi dal Nuovo Testamento e dal magistero della Chiesa riassicurano i fedeli della validità del sentiero da seguire. Non dobbiamo riscoprire o ricreare la via ma credere all’opera della redenzione Dio ha messo in atto per noi, per partecipare alla sua vita. Gesù l’ha rivelato a noi quando dal suo fianco aperto ha offerto fiumi di acqua vivente per ristorare la nostra anima inaridita: “Venite a me, voi tutti, che siete affaticati e oppressi, e io vi ristorerò.” (Mat. 11:28)

EditorialThe Spirituality of the Precious Blood is well-documented, well-founded

and permeates the life of the Church.Through the centuries the spirituality of the Precious Blood has been intrinsic to the

life of the Church as God sent messengers as prophets and saints to promote his plan to reconcile us to himself through the Blood of the cross.(cf Col. 1:20). Communities, Religious and of Apostolic Life, have punctuated the life of the Church according to the needs of the time to remind all of God’s design and the power and richness of this spirituality.

The calendar for 2014 traces the official teaching from some of the successors of Peter who pointed to the Blood of Christ as a treasure that must be passed on to the universal church so that all may see and believe. Pope Clement I wrote: “Let us fix our gaze on the Blood of Christ and realize how truly precious It is, seeing that it was poured out for our salvation and brought the grace of conversion to the whole world.”1 St. Gaspar did not consider it as a particular devotion, but the essence of all the other devotions, a universal theology that “puts new life into religion in its principles, in its practices, in its glories.”2 Pope John XXII hoped that Christians “meditate on it more fervently...[and] “their meditations on the boundless power of the Blood be bathed in the light of sound biblical teaching and the doctrine of the Fathers and Doctors of the Church.”3 Statements from the New Testament and the Church’s magisterium reassure the faithful of the validity of the path to follow. We don’t have to discover or re-create the way, but believe in the process of redemption God put in place for us to share in his life. Jesus has revealed it to us when from his open side he offered streams of living water to refresh our drooping spirits: “All who find life burdensome, come to me and I will refresh you.” (Matt. 11:28)

IL CALENDARIOIl Tempo Kairos nel Mondo del Chronos

La parola ‘tempo’ in Greco ha due significati: chronos e kairos, offrendoci un’opportunità di vedere il calendario sotto due punti di vista. Chronos si riferisce al tempo misurato dall’orologio ed organizzato nel calendario. Kairos, invece, si riferisce ad un evento rilevante che cambia la nostra vita, tempo della grazia di Dio. Per esempio, secondo il calendario il giorno della prima comunione è chronos, ma il ricordo della prima comunione è kairos perché l’avvenimento di quel giorno ha avuto un impatto sulla vita dell’individuo.

Il calendario Liturgico abbraccia queste due dimensioni poiché designa momenti di grazia di Dio nella nostra vita e da’ consistenza alla storia della salvezza resa visibile in Gesù Cristo. Tutto l’universo appartiene a Dio, e tutte le stagioni ed il tempo obbediscono a Lui. È in queste situazioni di tempo – chronos e kirios - che la nostra “libertà è la condizione che ci espone a possibilità e per Dio è occasione per la sua grazia. Sta a noi rispondere a quella grazia,” (Scott Hahn) e rendere il nostro tempo nel calendario, tempo per Dio.

For the 2014 Liturgical Year the Sunday readings are Year A and the weekday readings are from Year II.

The liturgical colors that mark the different seasons and observances are indicated on the dates in each month: Green for Ordinary Time; White/Gold for the seasons of Easter and Christmas, feasts of Our Lord, Mary, angels, and saints who are not martyrs; Red for Pentecost, martyrs, and feasts of the apostles and evangelists; Purple/Violet for Advent and Lent.

Kairos Time in a Chronos WorldThere are two interesting words for time in Greek: chronos

and kaairos, offering us an opportunity to look at the calendar from two different perspectives. Chronos is the kind of time measured by a clock and organized in a calendar. Kairos, instead, refers to a significant event that alters your life, a time of God’s grace. For instance, according to the calendar your wedding day was chronos, but what you remember from your wedding day is kairos because the event of the day had an impact on your life.

The Liturgical calendar encompasses these two dimensions as it pinpoints the moments of God’s grace in our lives and gives a face to salvation history made visible in Jesus Christ. The whole universe is God’s place, and all times and seasons obey Him, and it is in this setting that our “freedom is a condition of possibility and for God an occasion of grace. It is up to us to respond to that grace” (Scott Hahn) and make our time God’s time.

Redempti Sumus

Pope Pius IX extended the Feast of the Precious Blood to the whole Church, assigning to it the first Sunday in July, (changed by Pope St. Pius X in 1914 to July 1). The feast was included in the General Roman Calendar from 1849 to 1969.- Decree “Redempti Sumus” August 10, 1849

faith, by his blood.

On June 12, 1954 St. Gaspar was canonized by Pope Pius XII with Missionaries from around the world gathered in St. Peter’s Square. His feast day is celebrated on October 21.

St. Gaspar brought devotion to the Blood of Christ out of the sanctuary and into the streets. His preaching was rooted in the saving act of Christ on the cross and so he carried the crucifix close to his heart.

Il 12 giugno, 1954 San Gaspare fu canonizzato da Papa Pio XII alla presenza

di molti missionari venuti da tutto il mondo e raccolti in piazza San Pietro. La sua festa è

celebrata il 21 ottobre.

San Gaspare ha portato la devozione al Sangue di Cristo dall’altare alle starde. Le

sue prediche erano basate sull’atto salvifico di Gesù sulla croce e per questo portava il crocifisso

vicino al suo cuore.

On August 15, 1815 St. Gaspar del Bufalo founded the Congregations of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood at the abbey of San Felice in Giano, Italy. Since that beginning, thousands of Missionaries have taken the spirituality of the Blood of Christ as the motivation of their apostolate. May his followers continue to turn to him for inspiration as they fulfill the wish he once expressed: “I wish that I could have a thousand tongues to endear every heart to the Precious Blood of Jesus.”

Il 15 Agosto 1815, San Gaspare del Bufalo fondò la Congregazione dei Missionari del Preziosissimo Sangue nell’abbazia di San Felice di Giano, Italia. Da quell’inizio, migliaia di missionari hanno abbracciato la spiritualità del Sangue di Cristo come motivazione del loro apostolato. Possano i suoi seguaci continuare la sua opera inspirati dal suo esempio ed adempiere in suo desiderio: “Vorrei avere mille lingue per intenerire ogni cuore verso il Sangue Preziosissimo di Gesù.”
