The first disciples demonstrate such readiness and resolve: leaving behind their thriving business ventures, family and employees, they follow Jesus regardless of the cost. Their actions are not a counsel to shirk life’s responsibilities, but to make God the priority. PARISH NEWS: Growing in Our Faith

From the Living in the Word

From our awareness of this wondrous gift that is the Eucharist, and of the Lord's command that it be celebrated in his memory, arise some questions: Am I, in fact, putting the Word of God into practice by participating fully every week in Sunday mass? Do I allow other activities to take priority over my sacred obligation? Do I take time to prepare for mass by reading in advance the mass readings, pondering the many blessings for which to give thanks, or considering the needs I wish to place before the altar of God's mercy?

SANTA MARIA GORETTI CENTRE NEWS

A happy and hearty welcome to our beautiful Catechism children! We count about 50 kids this year who will be attending classes in preparation for Holy Communion and Confirmation. And thank you so much to those volunteers who organize and give their time for this. Your Centre looks forward to this every year. The energy and the beautiful voices of our children echoing through the Hall is wonderful. And, parents of the children get to meet with other parents and friends. Don't forget to come by for a coffee and a sweet after or before you attend mass.

Your Centre will host the annual Memorial Mass tea and coffee on January 25, right after the Memorial Mass. All family members and friends are most welcome to come and share some conversation and have a quick snack, as well. May you all have a wonderful week. Please be careful with your walking on the sidewalks and driveways. Our ever-changing weather creates some treacherous conditions. Let's do our best to avoid falls. Take care everyone!

Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Goretti Council We should take a quiet moment to stop and think about how important our wonderful Parish is to our lives. The great legacy our nonni, nonne, mamme, papa', etc. have left us is overwhelming. It is not only the physical centrepiece of our spiritual lives, but it is an extension of our family. Part of our very culture, it is a touchpoint to special moments of the heart and soul. From baptisms through to funerals and everything in-between we always arrive at Santa Maria Goretti. Thank you to our families who helped build and maintain the vitality and the heart of our Parish. Let us continue to do our part! Your SMG Knights look forward to a great year in 2018. We are committed to continue in our charitable fund-raising and in being active in our Parish. It is directly because of the good work our older generation did for our church that we continue. Momentum in doing good for our community just seems to bring greater goodwill and good works. We pray that our parishoners will have a healthy and robust year with lots of laughter and lots of pasta!

Please consider joining your SMG Knights. We'd love to chat with you about any questions you have. Call Tony at 780-297-4479. Have a great weekend!
