Abstract for ICOH 2015 (Seoul, Kora) Project: epidemiology of asbestos-related diseases in Curitiba,

Merces NA1, Cruz EDA1; Consonni D.2 1 Universidade Federal do Paraná, Brazil 2 Department of Preventive Medicine, Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, Milan, Italy […] we are launching a project to study asbestos-related diseases in Curitiba, the capital of Paranà. Here we describe the study and present preliminary data on its feasibility. The project foresees two main areas of study: 1) mortality study among workers employed in four asbestos

cement factories located in or near Curitiba; 2) implementation of a registry of MM cases in Curitiba and its

metropolitan region, in collaboration with the Curitiba Cancer Registry. The project will evaluate the sources of data (e.g. mortality, hospital admissions) available in municipal, national, and federal databases.

Amianto no Paraná Há três empresas na região de Curitiba que utilizam amianto: • a Eternit (Colombo) • a Multilit (São José dos Pinhais) • e a Isdralit (Curitiba) Uma lei municipal que bane o uso do amianto em Curitiba foi sancionada pela Câmara no ano passado (2012). As empresas têm um prazo de três anos para se adaptar.
