Nel giorno dell’Assunta (15 agosto), da circa 50 anni si svolge a Garda il Palio delle Contrade, la festa più signifi -cativa di un’antica comunità di pescatori la cui chiesa par-rocchiale è dedicata, per l’ap-punto, all’Assunzione in cielo della Beata Vergine Maria.Nel tratto di lungolago com-preso tra il porto e il munici-pio, sul far della sera le gon-dole piane di nove contrade scendono in acqua e a colpi di remo si contendono il prima-to cittadino.La competizione remiera, ca-ratterizzata da contradaioli e vogatori in costume, ha come “posta in palio” la lignea statua dell’Assunta. Per l’occasione, il paese di Garda si pavesa a fe-sta e riaccende antiche rivalità paesane legate al mondo della pesca e della voga.La giornata si conclude con i tradizionali fuochi d’artifi -cio che illuminano una notte magica.

On the 15th of August, the As-sumption day, the most impor-tant festival of an ancient com-munity of fi sherman takes place in Garda: the “Palio delle Con-trade”, the Parish church of the community, in fact, is dedicated to the Assumption in Heaven of the Holy Virgin Mary.On the stretch of the lake fr ont between the harbor and the city hall, at dusk, the fl at gondolas fr om nine “contradas” or di-stricts of the town, take to the water and contend the town championship with the strokes of their oars.Th e prize at stake in the rowing competition, characterized by district personalities and members of the rowing team dressed in traditional costumes, is the wooden statue of the As-sumption of the Holy Virgin Mary. For the occasion, the town of Garda is decorated for the festival, fi ring up ancient town rivalries related to the world of fi shing and rowing.Th e day ends with the traditio-nal fi reworks show illumina-ting a magical night.

Am Maria-Himmelfahrtstag (15. August) wird in Garda seit rund 50 Jahren der Ruderwett-bewerb “Palio delle Contrade” ausgetragen, das bedeutendste Fest eines einstigen Fischer-dorfes, dessen Pfarrkirche eben der Himmelfahrt der Heiligen Jungfr au Maria gewidmet ist.Im Seepromenadenabschnitt zwischen dem Hafen und dem Gemeindegebäude werden bei Einbruch der Dunkelheit die fl achen Gondeln von neun Stadtvierteln ins Wasser gelas-sen und wetteifern dann mit stetigen Ruderschlägen darum, der Stadtbeste zu werden.Der Preis für den Gewinner des Ruderbootrennens, mit den kennzeichnenden traditio-nell gekleideten Vertretern der Stadtviertel und Ruderern, ist die Holzstatue der Heiligen Jungfr au Maria. Zu diesem Anlass wird ganz Garda in einen Hauch von Festlichkeit gehüllt und entfacht die anti-ken, mit der Fischerei und der Ruderwelt verbundenen Riva-litäten aufs Neue.Der Tag endet mit dem tradi-tionellen Feuerwerk, das eine magische Nacht erleuchtet.

Iscrizioni e regolamento presso il Bar Riviera “Fix”.La prima cuccagna sul lago con palo orizzontale sull’acqua (di cui si abbia notizia) risale al 3 agosto 1913 e fu realizzata a Garda in onore del vescovo di Verona in visita a Garda.“Centuries old” playful show of balance on a greasy pole placed horizontally over the lake. Th e fi rst “cuccagna” on the lake with a horizontal pole over the water (of which we know) dates back to the 3rd of August of 1913 and was made in honor of the Bishop of Verona visiting Garda.Das spielerische “hundertjährige” Spektakel, das einen Sinn fürs Gleichgewicht erfordert und auf einem mit Fett eingeschmierten, horizontal platzierten Pfahl stattfi ndet, erfolgt auf dem See. Die Siegerehrung wird nach dem Wettstreit durchgeführt. Die Teil-nahmeregeln können im Café Riviera “Fix”, wo auch die Anmeldung erfolgt, eingesehen werden. Der erste Schlaraff enpfahl auf dem See mit einem horizontalen Pfahl über dem Wasser fand, soweit man weiß, am 3. August 1913 statt und wurde in Garda zu Ehren des Besuchs des Bischofs von Verona durchgeführt.
