Richard Löwy, ebreo perseguitato dai nazisti, internato e ucciso nel campo di sterminio di Auschwitz, fu uno dei personaggi più amati dalla comunità di Fassa, per la quale si adoperò fino all’abnegazione nel corso della Prima Guerra Mondiale e nei terribili anni seguenti, quando i paesi erano allo stremo per le gravi privazioni subite. Fu tale l’amore dei moenesi verso di lui che il Comune di Moena gli conferì nel 1916 la cittadinanza onoraria e gli dedicò il nome della via principale del paese. Cent’anni dopo, la mostra intende ripercorrere le tappe di una vita interamente spesa in favore della “sua” comunità ladina.

L’ associazione storica “Sul Fronte dei Ricordi”, ormai da 25 anni, si occupa del recupero e della manutenzione delle opere belliche che interessano la Val di San Pellegrino. Dal 1993, anno in cui sono stati fatti i primi lavori sulle Creste del Costabella, si sono moltiplicati gli interventi volti a preservare e ripristinare alcune delle numerosissime testimonianze della Grande Guerra che sul nostro territorio ancora oggi formano un vero “museo a cielo aperto”. A questo scopo sono destinati anche i proventi della mostra “La Gran Vera 1914-1918”. Questa sezione fotografica intende documentare il prezioso lavoro svolto dai volontari per salvaguardare un patrimonio storico che ancora oggi testimonia le atrocità del conflitto che cent’anni fa colpì queste vallate e l’intera Europa. A cent’anni esatti dall’evento che ha sconvolto l’Europa e provocato un’incolmabile frattura tra il mondo antico e quello attuale, una mostra porta a conoscere e rivivere gli elementi cardine di quell’ondata di follia. Un percorso dentro la storia, in quattro sezioni, un invito a conoscere i fatti compresi tra il 1914 ed il 1918, come li hanno vissuti gli uomini con addosso un’uniforme: italiani, austriaci, russi, ungheresi, bosniaci, tedeschi. La Galizia rivissuta attraverso gli straordinari quadri dei pittori di guerra austriaci – Kriegsmaler, esposti come si faceva nelle Mostre di guerra del tempo, allo scopo di rafforzare lo spirito patriottico e di sacrificio della nazione. Accanto a queste opere d’arte, la sezione presenta anche un grande escursus tematico sulla storia del campo di battaglia galiziano, corredato da cartine ed immagini d’epoca commentate.

Una tortuosa e coinvolgente esperienza di trincea in ambientazione notturna, con accurate ricostruzioni di camminamenti, postazioni, grotte e diorami che rappresentano la vita “vera” dei soldati, per rivivere l’atmosfera di quegli interminabili anni, toccando con mano alcuni oggetti ed ascoltando suoni e testimonianze. Una spettacolare maxi proiezione sulla vita delle truppe in alta montagna, costituisce il fulcro della sezione. Come da un punto d’osservazione d’epoca, munito di mitragliatrice, si potrà seguire lo spettacolo inserito sullo sfondo di un campo di battaglia invernale.

Le uniformi ed i cimeli della vasta collezione Simonetti “Federspiel” - Caimi, conservati dal Museo Ladino di Fassa, costituiscono una straordinaria raccolta ed una testimonianza unica, finalmente visibile ad un largo pubblico. Numerose uniformi d’epoca, sia di parte austriaca, sia di parte italiana, affiancate da vetrine tematiche con reperti della guerra in montagna, pannelli illustrativi con le testimonianze dei combattenti, foto d’epoca e testi didascalici su eventi e situazioni del fronte e delle retrovie. Nella stessa sala si trova l’exhibition shop, con varia oggettistica e un’ampia esposizione di libri e pubblicazioni, per accostarsi o approfondire il tema.

S E Z I O N E 3 Guerra alla Guerra!

La sezione ospita una selezione di immagini sull’orrore della guerra, raccolte da Ernst Friedrich nel suo libro “Guerra alla Guerra!”, edito nel 1924. Le crude fotografie parlano da sole ed i brevi commenti dell’autore non lasciano spazio ad interpretazioni: vi è una sola verità sulla guerra. Sono immagini che di solito si tengono nascoste, che a molti fanno ribrezzo o paura ma che purtroppo sono la realtà: la guerra è massacro e sofferenza. Vorremmo che questa guerra, madre di tutte le guerre moderne, restasse impressa nella memoria di ciascuno a perenne monito e, nel contempo, per comprendere il valore inestimabile della Pace.

Richard Löwy was a Jew, persecuted by the Nazis, interned and killed in the extermination camp in Auschwitz. He has been one of the most popular persons in the Moena community, which he unselfishly helped during the First World War and in the following, terrible years, when the villages where in desperate conditions due to the deprivation suffered. The people from Moena loved him so much that the municipal administration gave him the honorary citizenship and called the main street of the village after him. After one Hundred years, this exhibition recalls the various stages of his life, which he entirely offered to “his” Ladin community.

For 25 years the Association for Historical Studies ‘Frontlines of Memory’ has been researching, restoring and upkeeping artifacts and other remains of WW 1 in Val San Pellegrino. 1993 was the year when the first restorations were conducted on the Creste del Costabella. Since then the projects for the preservation of places of interest connected to the Great War have been multiplying, toward what can be considered today a veritable open air museum. Proceedings from the exhibition ‘La Gran Vera 1914-1918 will be devolved to further the project.The present photographic section aims at documenting the efforts by volunteers to safeguard the wealth of historical sites that still bear witness to the insanity of the conflict which devastated these valleys one hundred years ago. Visitors will walk along an involving, winding trench itinerary with a night setting. The atmosphere of those years is brought back to life thanks to the many dioramas and to the accurate recon-struction of communication trenches, emplacements and caverns. People will achieve an all-round war experience by directly tou- ching objects as well as listening to original sounds and soldiers’ memories. A spectacular widescreen projection showing troops’ life in the high mountains does represent the hinge of this section. As the video gets projected on the backdrop of a winter battle camp, visitors will experience the perspective from an observation post of those days, equipped with a real machine gun.

Uniforms and war relics belonging to the Simonetti “Federspiel” – Caimi collection, conserved at Fassa Ladin Museum, do represent an extraordinary wide collection as well as a unique historical heritage, which is now within everybody’s reach. Beside many original uniforms, both Austrian and Italian, relics of high mountain war are thematically gathered, together with illustrative panels reporting soldiers’ narrations, pictures and captions describing events and situations occurred at the forefront and behind the lines. This section also hosts the exhibition-shop, selling gifts and a wide choice of books and publications for those who want to approach and deepen the topic of First World War.

S E C T I O N 3 Waragainst War!

The section hosts a selection of shocking pictures documenting the horrors of the First World War. The photos were gathered by Ernst Friedrich in his anti-war book entitled “War against War!”, published in 1924. The shockingly powerful pictures speak for themselves while the short author’s captions leave no room for interpretations: there is only a truth about war. Such pictures are usually kept hidden as they cause disgust and fair, but they just depict the truth: war is massacre and pain. We would like this war, mother of all modern wars, to remain deeply impressed on everyone’s mind as a perennial warning, helping us to understand the inestimable value of Peace.

A hundred years are passed since Europe was undermined by a conflict which turned out to be a real watershed between ancient and contemporary world. All main aspects of such a wave of insane violence are presented and explained in the exhibition “La Gran Vera”, namely “The Great War”. An historical itinerary, divided into four sections, leading visitors into those facts occurred between 1914 and 1918, as they were experienced by men wearing a uniform: Italians, Austrians, Russians, Hungarians, Bosnians, Germans.Galicia comes to life in the striking works of Austrian war-painters, the so called Kriegsmaler. The paintings are shown as they used to be displayed in war exhibitions at that time, with the specific purpose of enforcing patriotic and nation’s feelings of sacrifice.Beside such works, the section presents a wide thematic overview about Galician battlefield, including maps of that time and pictures with their own descriptions.

Seit nunmehr 25 Jahren kümmert sich der Geschichtsverein “Sul Fronte dei Ricordi” (An der Front des Gedenkens) um die Erhaltung und Pflege der Kriegsrelikte im Gebiet von San Pellegrino. Im Jahr 1993 begannen die ersten Arbeiten auf den Höhenzügen der Costabella-Kette; seitdem wurden die Bemühungen kontinuierlich ausgebaut und erweitert, um die zahlreichen Spuren, die der Erste Weltkrieg in unserer Gegend hinterlassen hat, zu erhalten und als eine Art begehbares „Freilicht-Museum“ zugänglich zu machen. Auch der Erlös der Ausstellung “La Gran Vera 1914-1918” (Der Große Krieg 1914-1918) fließt in dieses Vorhaben. Die Foto-Ausstellung dokumentiert die wertvolle Arbeit der vielen Freiwilligen, die sich für den Erhalt der historischen Spuren dieses furchtbaren Krieges einsetzen, der vor hundert Jahren unsere Gegend und darüber hinaus ganz Europa verwüstete. Richard Löwy, ein Jude, der von den Nazis verfolgt, interniert und im Vernichtungslager Auschwitz ermordet wurde, zählte mit zu den beliebtesten Männern in der Gemeinde des Fassatals, für die er sich während des 1. Weltkriegs und in den schrecklichen Jahren danach, als die Dörfer aufgrund der schweren Entbehrungen tiefste Not litten, bis zur Selbstaufgabe opferte. Die Menschen aus Moena verehrten Richard Löwy so sehr, dass die Gemeinde, im Jahre 1916, ihm die Ehrenbürgerschaft zuerkannte und die Hauptstraße des Dorfes nach ihm benannte. Nach hundert Jahren, zeichnet die Ausstellung die Etappen eines Lebens nach, das ganz und gar im Dienste “seiner” ladinischen Gemeinschaft gestanden hatte.

Diese sorgfältige Rekonstruktion von Laufgräben und Stellungen soll mit Hilfe von Dioramen und Schaubildern die bedrückende Erfahrung in einem Schützengraben bei Nacht nahebringen, also die „wahre“ Seite des Soldatenlebens. Hier wird die dumpfe Atmosphäre jener endlosen Jahre wieder lebendig, man hört den Lärm des Krieges und kann einige Kriegsgeräte von damals mit eigener Hand berühren. Dazu zeigt eine eindrucksvolle Projektion über den Alltag des Gebirgskrieges das Leben der kämpfenden Truppe in den Bergen: Aus dem Blickpunkt einer damaligen, mit einem Maschinengewehr ausgerüsteten Beobachtungsstelle kann man das Szenarium einer winterlichen Schlacht mitverfolgen, die im Hintergrund tobt.

Die Uniformen und Fundstücke der umfangreichen Sammlung Simonetti „Federspiel“- Caimi, die im Museum von Fassa aufbewahrt wird, bilden in ihrer Geschlossenheit einen einzigartigen und aussagekräftigen Bestand, der nun endlich einem breiten Publikum zugänglich ist. Zu sehen sind zahlreiche zeitgenössische Uniformen, sowohl aus dem österreichischen wie auch aus dem italienischen Lager, Fundstücke des Gebirgskrieges, Schautafeln mit Zeugnissen der Frontkämpfer, historische Fotoaufnahmen und Lehrtexte über die Ereignisse an der Front und im Hinterland. Im selben Raum befindet sich auch der Ausstellungsshop mit verschiedenen Geschenkartikeln und einer großen Auswahl an Büchern zum Thema des Weltkrieges.

ABTEILUNG 3 Krieg dem Kriege!

Die letzte Abteilung enthält eine Sammlung von Bildern über die Kriegsgräuel, die von Ernst Friedrich in seinem Buch „Krieg dem Kriege!“ zusammengestellt wurde. Die grausamen Bilder des Buches, das bereits 1924 erschien, sprechen für sich, ebenso die knappen Kommentare des Autors: Es gibt nur eine Wahrheit über den Krieg. Es sind Bilder, die man nicht gerne zeigt, denn sie sind grauenhaft und sogar abstoßend, doch das ist die Realität: Krieg ist Gemetzel und furchtbares Leid. Der Erste Weltkrieg, die Mutter aller modernen Kriege, diene als Mahnung und rufe stets den unermesslichen Wert des Friedens in Erinnerung.

Genau hundert Jahre sind seit dem Ereignis vergangen, das ganze Europa erschüttert und eine unüberbrückbare Kluft zwischen der früheren und der heutigen Welt aufgerissen hat.Die Ausstellung zeigt die wesentlichen Gründe auf, die dazu geführt haben, und möchte das Grauen dieses Wahnsinns nachvollziehbar ins Gedächtnis rufen. Diese Reise in die Geschichte dokumentiert, auf vier Abteilungen aufgeteilt, die Ereignisse des Zeitraums zwischen1914 und 1918, und zwar aus dem Blickwinkel der vielenverschiede- nen Frontkämpfer: der Italiener und Österreicher, der Russen, Ungarn, Bosnier und der Deutschen. Galizien wird durch die außergewöhnlichen Gemälde der österreichi-schen Kriegsmaler wieder erlebbar, deren Werke in den damaligen Kriegsausstellungen die patriotische Gesinnung und die heimische Opferbereitschaft stärken sollten. Neben diesen Bildern führt ein thematischer Weg anhand kommentierter Landkarten und Zeichnun- gen durch die Schlachtfelder Galiziens.
