Un uomo conosciuto come Marble Man aiuta uno dei più famosi attori di Hollywood a salvare le tigri dall’estinzione. Sembra la trama di un film di supereroi, invece è l’ultimo progetto di Gual-tiero Vanelli, eclettico im-prenditore del marmo e già inventore del celebre M-Piano, il pianoforte a coda in marmo di Carrara suonato da Andrea Bocelli all’inaugurazione di Expo 2015.Vanelli è il fondatore di Ro-bot City – Italian Art Fac-tory, azienda d’eccellenza che usa le tecnologie più avveniristiche per portare avanti una delle tradizioni italiane più celebri nel mondo: la lavorazione del marmo di Carrara. L’azienda guarda al mondo dell’arte e lavora in siner-gia con artisti e creativi di varie discipline, per creare pezzi unici o in tirature limitate.

A man known as Marble Man is helping one of the most famous actors of Hol-lywood save endangered tigers. It sounds like the plot of a superhero movie, but it’s a project of Gualtiero Vanelli, the eclectic marble entrepreneur and creator of the M-Piano, the marble pi-anoforte played by Andrea Bocelli at the inauguration of the 2015 Expo.Vanelli is the founder of Robot City-Italian Art Factory, a company that uses futuristic technology to continue one of the most famous Italian traditions in the world: the production of Carrara marble. The com-pany works alongside the art world and many artists from various disciplines to create unique pieces and limited collections.

M-Piano unisce una struttura in marmo ca-lacatta vaticano con l’anima di un pianoforte Stainway&Sons. Un pezzo unico la cui origi-nalità è stata apprezzata da musicisti di fama mondiale come Bocelli, David Bryan dei Bon Jovi e il celebre pianista Lang Lang.

M-Piano combines a marble vatican ca-lacatta strucutre with a musical soul of a Steinway&Sons grand piano. An original piece, its originality has been praised by international musicians, such as Bocelli, David Bryan of Bon Jovi and the famous pianist Lang Lang.

Ora M-Piano rinasce in una nuova versione, per es-sere messo all’asta a favore della conservazione delle tigri. Un’idea nata dall’incontro di Gualtiero Vanelli con Leonardo DiCaprio: l’attore è infatti un convinto ecologista la cui fondazione, la Leonardo DiCaprio Foudation, ha lanciato la campagna globale Save Ti-gers Now in collaborazione con il WWF. Un secolo fa c’erano più di centomila tigri allo stato selvatico, mentre ora il loro numero è ridotto a poco più di tremila. Obiettivo della campagna è raddop-piare il numero di esemplari di questa specie a grave rischio di estinzione entro il 2022, anno della tigre secondo il calendario cinese.

Now, M-Piano has taken on a new function, this time to be placed on auction to raise money for tiger pres-ervation, an idea born from the meeting between Gualtiero Vanelli and Leonardo DiCaprio: the actor is an active ecologist whose foundation—The Leon-ardo DiCaprio Foundation—has launched Save Ti-gers Now, a global campaign in collaboration with the WWF.A century ago, more than 100,000 tigers roamed free in the wild, while today there remain at merely 3000. The foundation’s goal is to double the number of endangered tigers, who risk extinction as soon as 2022—the year of the tiger in the Chinese calendar.

Gualtiero Vanelli ha subito abbracciato la causa, immaginando di mettere all’asta una versione di M-Piano che rimandasse al tema dei felini in pericolo. Così M-Piano è diventato Tiger M-Piano: Vanelli ha fatto tatuare il marmo candido del pianoforte con una decorazione che imita il mantello delle tigri, e aggiun-to inserti in porcellana creati dalla designer di gioielli Veronica Lenza.Il risultato è un pianoforte tigrato di straordinario im-patto, messo all’asta il 22 luglio a Saint Tropez e bat-tuto per 700.000 euro, ricavato che verrà devoluto a favore di progetti per la conservazione delle tigri. Nel corso della serata di gala, il pianoforte è stato suona-to da Elton John e John Legend.Creatività, tecnologia e storia unite per salvare le regine della giungla: davvero il Made in Italy non fin-isce mai di stupire.

Gualtiero Vanelli immediately dedicated himself to the cause, and imagined how to put up the M-Piano for auction in such a way to underline the theme of these endangered felines. M-Piano became Tiger M-Piano: Vanelli “tattoed” the candid white mar-ble with stripes and colors that recall those of the tiger’s, adding porcelain inserts by jewelry designer Veronica Lenza.The result is a striped pianoforte of extraordinary impact. It was put on auction on July 22nd in Saint Tropez and was sold for 700.000 euros; a hefty sum of money which will be donated to the tiger conservation program. During the auction, the pi-ano was played by Elton John and John Legend.Creativity, technology, and history unite to save the queen of the jungle. The Made in Italy brand never fails to surprise.
