Macchine, cinema, cavalli, musica, gioielli, sport. A leggerci si direbbe che siamo ancora in ferie, a leggerci si direbbe che vorremmo esserlo ancora tutti. Ci spingiamo verso orizzonti nuovi oppure sempre sui soliti lidi sicuri, dove creiamo un nuovo mondo ordinario, ma meno noiso. Le pellicole dei cari vecchi cartoni animati creati, però, con i cari nuovi sistemi informatici, i cavalli evoluti che aspirano alla comunicazione, le corse di uomini in sostegno di future corse di altri, le macchine di antiche tradizioni mescolate agli aerei più veloci, le musiche dei robot e quelle dei nostri avi, un miscuglio creativo che assume valenza metaforica se rapportato al mondo odierno. Che cosa nasconde il velo epidermico che spinge a intuire il nascosto? Nuovi cibi per le menti ancora affamate, concetti ed opere di mondi svelati.

Automobiles, cinema, horses, music, jewels and sport. While reading one would believe we are still on holiday; while reading it would seem that we all wish we were! We move towards new horizons or towards the same old safe destinations, where we create a new world; ordinary but less boring. The dear old animated cartoon films created though with new and expensive computers, the evolved horses which aspire to communicate, the races of men to sustain the future races of others, the machines of ancient traditions mixed with the fastest airplanes, the music of the robots and that of our ancestors, a creative mixture which assumes a metaphorical valence if compared to today’s world. What does the veil hide that pushes us to envision the hidden? New food for minds still hungry, ideas and works belonging to worlds revealed.

Ben sei invece sono le pellicole americane che gareggeranno per aggiudicarsi il Leone d’oro. Lo stilista Tom Ford, al suo esordio sul grande schermo, si presenta con A single man (90’), storia drammatica interpretata da Julianne Moore e Colin Firth. Il regista tedesco Werner Herzog porta sullo schermo Bad Lieutenant: port of call New Orleans (121’) con il premio Oscar Nicolas Cage, la sensuale Eva Mendes e “l’ex-Top Gun” Val Kilmer. Deve averla conquistata la magia dell’atmosfera del Lido, quindi ecco tornare, dopo aver presenziato alla prima di The burning plain, la divina australiana Charlize Theron, protagonista insieme a Viggo Mortensen, della nuova pellicola di John Hillcoat, The road (112’). Non mancherà nemmeno l’horror di un maestro come Geroge Romero (regista de La notte dei morti viventi), con

Sulla croisette lidense saranno molte le star che calcheranno la passerella della 66° Mostra internazionaLe d’arte CineMatografiCa. Molte anche le sezioni divise in: Lungometraggi, “Fuori concorso”, “Orizzonti”, “Corto cortissimo”, “Controcampo italiano” (le nuove linee di tendenza del cinema italiano) e “Questi fantasmi” (cinema italiano ritrovato). Spazio poi alle sezioni autonome, con “La Settimana Internazionale della Critica” e “Giornate degli Autori”.

Quattro i film italiani in gara. Ad aprire la rassegna sarà Baarìa di giuseppe tornatore, quindi Lo spazio bianco (96’) di Francesca Comencini, già dietro la macchina da presa del drammatico Mi piace lavorare (2003), che vedrà protagonista la veterana Margherita Buy. La terza pellicola nostrana in concorso porta la

firma di Giuseppe Capotondi, con il suo drammatico La doppia ora (95’), e infine c’è molta attesa per Il grande sogno (101’) di Michele Placido, che ci riporta nel ’68, fra contestazioni e utopie, con Riccardo Scamarcio, Jasmine Trinca, Luca Argentero, Laura Morante e il vincitore della Coppa Volpi 2008, Silvio Orlando.

Quattro anche le pellicole dei cugini francesi, White Material (100’) di Claire Denis, con Isabelle Huppert e Nicolas Duvauchelle, 36 Vues du Pic Saint Loup (84’) dove recita il nostro Sergio Castellitto, Persecution di Patrice Chéreau (100’) e Mr Nobody di Jaco Van Dormael con Jared Leto (a Venezia anche nella scorsa edizione) e la bellissima Diane Kruger, scoperta nei panni di Elena in Troy (2004), e che presto vedremo nell’ultimo film di Quentin Tarantino, Bastardi senza gloria, di nuovo a fianco di Brad Pitt.

il suo nuovo lavoro, Survival of the dead (90’). Torna sul grande schermo infine il grillo parlante d’America. Dopo aver conquistato il premio Oscar per Bowling at Columbine (2003), e la Palma d’Oro a Cannes nel 2004 per Fahrnerit 11/9 (dove il presidente della giuria era Quentin Tarantino), il regista di Flint (Michigan) tenta di sbancare anche la laguna con Capitalism: a love story (120’), documentario incentrato sulla recente crisi economica mondiale.

Fra le pellicole “Fuori concorso”, oltre ai film della Pixar, sono pronti a fare il pieno di applausi Brooklyn’s finest (USA, 140’) di Antoine Fuqua, con un cast stellare (Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke e Wesley Snipes), The men who stare at goats (USA, 90’) di Gran Heslov con il sempre più italiano George Clooney insieme a Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges e Kevin Spacey, The informant di Steven Soderbergh (USA, 108’) con protagonista Matt Damon, e il documentario del celebre regista Oliver Stone, South of the border.

Along the Lido boardwalk there will be many stars which will tread the red carpet of the 66th Venice Film Festival. There are many sections, as usual: feature films, “Out of competition”, “Orizzonti”, “Corto cortissimo”, “Controcampo italiano” (the new trends in Italian cinema) and “Questi fantasmi” (Italian cinema rediscovered). There is space also dedicated to the independent sections, with the “International Critics’ Week” and the “Giornate degli Autori”. Four are the Italian fims competing. Opening the event will be Baarìa by Giuseppe Tornatore, followed by Lo spazio bianco by Francesca Comencini (who had already directed the dramatic Mi piace lavorare in 2003) which will be interpreted by the well known Margherita Buy. The third Italian film competing has Giuseppe Capotondi’s signature, who shows his La doppia ora and, finally, there is much expectation for Il grande sogno by Michele Placido, which brings us back to the year 1968, amid its protests and utopias, starring Riccardo Scamarcio, Jasmine Trinca, Luca Argentero, Laura Morante and, winner of the 2008 “Coppa Volpi”, Sivio Orlando.

A total of six are instead the American films that compete to win the Leone d’Oro. Fashion designer Tom Ford, in his film debut, presents his A single man, a dramatic story starring Julianne Moore and Colin Firth. The Lido’s magical atmosphere must have won her over so here she is again, after having presided the premiere of The burning plain, the divine South African actress Charlize Theron, starring with Viggo Mortensen in John Hillcot’s new film, The Road.

Horror won’t be left out, as the maestro George Romero (director of Night of the Living Dead) will be present with his new masterpiece, Survival of the dead. Finally reappearing on the big screen is America’s documentary satirist, Michael Moore. After winning his Oscar for Bowling for Columbine (2003) and his Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2004 with Fahrenheit 9/11 (where the President of the Jury was Quentin Tarantino), the director from Flint (Michigan) tries to break the bank also in the lagoon with his Capitalism: a love story, a documentary centered on the recent world economic crisis.

Il Liga sbarca in Veneto. Luciano Ligabue, una delle personalità chiave della cultura pop italiana, dal 2 al 12 settembre, insieme a Sergei Bodrov, Sandrine Bonnaire, Liliana Cavani, Joe Dante e Anurag Kashyap, farà parte della giuria (presieduta da Ang Lee) dei film in concorso della 66. Mostra internazionale del Cinema. Dal 24 settembre al 4 ottobre invece, sarà on stage all’Arena di Verona per otto incredibili concerti.

Il suo esordio dietro la macchina da presa risale al 1998 quando, proprio alla kermesse veneziana, presenta la sua prima opera, Radiofreccia, cult giovanile che vede protagonista Stefano Accorsi con la partecipazione speciale di un altro grande musicista emiliano: Francesco Guccini. Il film riceve ben tre David di Donatello, due Nastri d’argento e tre Ciak d’oro.

Dopo solo quattro anni dal primo film, esce Da zero a dieci, presentato in una proiezione speciale della Settimana Internazionale della Critica al Festival di Cannes 2002. Nel cast c’è anche Pierfrancesco Favino, attore sempre più affermato e visto di recente nel colossal Le Cronache di Narnia: il Principe Caspian (2008), Miracolo a Sant’Anna (2008) di Spike Lee, e nei panni dell’Ispettore Olivetti nel film Angeli e Demoni, di Ron Howard.

The Liga arrives to the Veneto. Luciano Ligabue, one of the key figures in Italian pop culture, from September 2nd to September 12th , along with Sergei Bodrov, Sandrine Bonnaire, Liliana Cavani, Joe Dante and Anurag Kashyao, will take part in the Jury (presided by Ang Lee) of the 66th Venice Film Festival. From September 24th to October 4th he will instead be on stage at the Verona Arena for eight incredible concerts.

His debut behind a film camera was in 1998 when, at the very same Veince Film Festival he presents his first film, Radiofreccia, a cult movie for young people starring Stefano Accorsi and with a special appearance of another great musician from Reggio Emilia, Francesco Guccini. The film received three Davids of Donatello, two Nstri d’Argento and three golden Ciak awards.

Only four years after his first film, he made From Zero to Ten, presented in a special screening at the International Critics’ Week of the Cannes Festival in 2002. The cast includes Pierfrancesco Favino, more and more acclaimed actor who we’ve seen in the colossal The Chronicles of Narnia: the Caspian Prince (2008), Miracle at St’.Anna (2008) by Spike Lee, and starring as the Inspector Olivetti in the Ron Howard film Angels and Demons.

E’ stato attribuito al regista, sceneggiatore e attore statunitense sylvester stallone il “Jaeger-LeCoultre glory to the filmmaker award”, il premio recentemente istituito dalla Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia, e organizzato dalla Mostra in collaborazione con Jaeger-LeCoultre, dedicato a una personalità che ha lasciato un segno nel cinema contemporaneo. In precedenza il premio è stato assegnato a Takeshi Kitano, Agnès Varda e Abbas Kiarostami.

Si tratta – quest’anno – di un premio inteso a celebrare la dimensione di cineasta di sylvester stallone, autore di un cinema già visibilmente originalissimo e carico di tenerezza (anche quando grondante di sangue), a partire dalla sorprendente gara notturna sui tetti che fa da sfondo ai credits d’apertura del suo primo film da sceneggiatore/regista, Paradise Alley.

“Essere premiato alla Mostra di Venezia – ha dichiarato sylvester stallone – è qualcosa che ho sempre sperato diventasse realtà, e ora che è accaduto, devo dire che è valsa la pena aspettare”.

American director, screenwriter and actor sylvester stallone has been awarded the “Jaeger-LeCoultre glory to the filmmaker award”. This award was recently established by the Venice Film Festival and organized by the Festival in conjunction with Jaeger-LeCoultre and is dedicated to people who have left a mark on contemporary filmmaking. In the past the award has been assigned to Takeshi Kitano, Agnès Varda and Abbas Kiarostami.

This year’s award is meant to celebrate Stallone’s role as a filmmaker, author of very original films full of tenderness (even when

they are full of blood), beginning with the nocturnal race on roof tops which runs in the background of the opening titles of his first film as awriter/director, Paradise Alley.

Due anni più tardi, firma il suo esordio nella regia: Il camorrista (1986), vincitore del Nastro d’Argento come miglior regista esordiente, ritratto a forti tinte di un boss della

Già nel 1995 Tornatore era stato protagonista alla Mostra di Venezia, presente sia col documentario sulla “sua” Sicilia Lo schermo a tre punte, sia col lungometraggio in concorsoL’uomo delle stelle, con Sergio Castellitto, film che vinse il Gran Premio Speciale della Giuria presieduta da Guglielmo Biraghi (e successivamente il David di Donatello e il Nastro d’Argento per la miglior regia). Nel 1993 Tornatore era fra i componenti della Giuria internazionale presieduta da Peter Weir.

Nato a Bagheria il 27 maggio del 1956, Giuseppe Tornatore inizia giovanissimo a lavorare nel campo della fotografia, ricevendo diversi riconoscimenti dalle riviste

malavita napoletana, è opera robusta ed ispirata, dove riflessione politica e sequenze spettacolari convivono felicemente. E’ con la pellicola successiva, tuttavia, che il giovane cineasta ottiene successo e riconoscimenti, grazie anche all’intelligenza produttiva di Franco Cristaldi: Nuovo cinema paradiso(1988), insignito a Cannes del Gran premio speciale della giuria e a Hollywood dell’Oscar per il miglior film straniero, è un amarcord agrodolce ambientato in un paesino della Sicilia negli anni ‘50 e un generoso e commosso atto d’amore verso un cinema che non esiste più, tra baci tagliati dal parroco, sale con le sedie di legno e nuvole di fumo di sigaretta. Il film è universalmente riconosciuto come il capolavoro del regista per la capacità di coinvolgere emotivamente lo spettatore, grazie al potere della memoria e dell’immagine, vivida e disincantata.Nel 1990 gira Stanno tutti bene, che racconta del viaggio di un padre siciliano alla ricerca dei figli sparsi in tutta Italia, interpretato da Marcello Mastroianni (una delle sue ultime interpretazioni), dove ancora una volta lo sguardo malinconico del regista si affaccia su una società disgregata e alienante.

Nel 1991 collabora al film collettivo La domenica specialmente, con l’episodio Il cane blu, in cui racconta del surreale rapporto tra un cane randagio e un barbiere romagnolo. Nel 1990 è uno dei soci fondatori della Philip Morris Progetto Cinema per il restauro dei film d’autore. Nel 1994 gira Una pura formalità, presentato in concorso a Cannes, che rappresenta un punto di svolta nello stile del regista, che cambia radicalmente. Nel film, un giallo psicologico dalle coloriture metafisiche, compaiono due star internazionali come il regista

Roman Polanski (nel ruolo di attore) e Gérard Depardieu. Nel 1995 è doppiamente protagonista alla Mostra di Venezia con il documentario, Lo schermo a tre punte, nel quale racconta la “sua” Sicilia e con L’uomo delle stelle che segna un ritorno alla Sicilia del passato, con Sergio Castellitto nel singolare ruolo di “ladro di sogni”. Il film vince a Venezia il Gran Premio Speciale della Giuria e successivamente il David di Donatello e il Nastro d’Argento per la miglior regia. Nel 1995 riceve il titolo di Cavaliere delle Arti e delle Lettere in Francia e l’anno successivo quello di Commendatore della Repubblica Italiana. Folgorato dal monologo teatrale di Alessandro Baricco “Novecento”, lentamente comincia a pensare ad una trasposizione cinematografica. Dopo una lunga “gestazione” vede la luce La leggenda del pianista sull’oceano, con protagonista l’attore inglese Tim Roth, accompagnato dalla colonna sonora di Ennio Morricone. Anche questa pellicola si aggiudica diversi premi: il David di Donatello ed il Ciak d’Oro per la regia e due Nastri d’Argento, per la regia ed uno per la sceneggiatura. Malèna (2000) con Monica Bellucci, coproduzione italo-americana, è nuovamente collocato in Sicilia, questa volta nel 1940. Alla Mostra di Venezia 2000 ha ricevuto il Premio Bresson dell’Ente dello Spettacolo. Nel 2006 gira La sconosciuta, che l’anno successivo si aggiudica tre David di Donatello. Il film è stato scelto per rappresentare l’Italia al Premio Oscar 2008, nella selezione per le nomination quale miglior film straniero.

won the Jury’s Special Grand Prize presided by Guglielmo Biraghi (and since then, the David of Donatello and the Silver Ribbon for best directing). In 1993 Tornatore was part of the international jury presided by Peter Weir.

Born in Bagheria on May 27th 1956, Giuseppe Tornatore begins to work in the field of photography very young, receiving various awards from national photographic magazines. After having brought to the theater stage texts by Pirandello an Eduardo at the age of sixteen, he discovers cinema and films documentaries (one of these, Le minoranze etniche in Sicilia, wins an award at the Salerno Festival) and works for television (for RAI he makes Ritrato di rapinatore, Diario di Guttuso, Scrittori siciliani e cinema: Verga, Pirandello, Brancati, Sciascia). In 1984 he collaborates with Giuseppe Ferrara to film Cento giorni a Palermo, of which he is the producer as well as the co-writer and 2nd camera director. Two years later he makes his first film

Baarìa, written and directed by Oscar winner Giuseppe Tornatore, will be the opening film of the 66th Venice Film Festival being held at the Lido of Venice, from September 2 to September 12 2009, directed by Marco Müller and organized by the Biennale di Venezia presided by Paolo Baratta. The film will be running in the festival. Baarìa, which will be premiered world wide at the Lido, is the first Italian film in 20 years to inaugurate the Venice Film Festival. It also represents the most demanding production undertaken by the Italian cinema industry since many years.

as a director: Il camorrista (1986). Winner of the Nastro d’Argento as best new director, the film is a dark portrayal of a Neapolitan crime boss; a robust and inspired film, in which political reflection and spectacular scenes coexist well together. It is however with his next film, thanks also to the productive acumen of Franco Cristaldi, that the young film maker obtains commercial success and awards: Nuovo cinema paradiso (1988). Awarded the Jury’s special grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival and an Oscar at the Academy Awards for best foreign film, the film is a bittersweet recollection of life in a small Sicilian village in the 1950s. It is also a generous declaration of love to a type of cinema that no longer exists: kissing scenes that are censured by the local priest, wooden benches and clouds of smoke. The film is universally acclaimed as the director’s masterpiece due to its ability to emotionally engage the spectator thanks to the power of memory and vivid, disenchanted images. In 1990 he films Stanno tuti bene, which narrates the journey of a Sicilian father looking for his children spread throughout Italy and is interpreted by Marcello Mastroianni (one of his last roles); again we see the director’s melancholic gaze at an alienated and disruptive society.

In 1991 Tornatore collaborates in a collective film, La domenica specialmente, with the episode Il cane blu, in which he relates the surreal relationship between a stray dog and of a barber from Emilia Romagna. In 1990 he is one of the founding members of the Philip Morris Progetto Cinema, a project to restore films by famous directors. In 1994 he shoots A pure formality, submitted at Cannes, which represents a turning point in the director’s style, which changes radically. In the film, a psychological mystery with

metaphysical colors, appear two international stars such as Roman Polanski (as an actor) and Gérard Depardieu. In 1995 he is twice a protagonist at the Venice Film Festival with documentary Lo schermo a tre punte, in which he acquaints us with “his” Sicily, and with The star maker in which Tornatore returns to the Sicily of his past, with Sergio Castellitto in the curious role of “thief of dreams”. The film wins the Jury’s Special Grand Prize at the Venice Film Festival and later the David of Donatello and the Nastro d’Argento for best director. IN 1995 he is awarded the title Cavalier of Arts and Letters in France and, the following year, that of Commendatore of the Italian Republic.

Dazzled by Alesandro Baricco’s theatric dialogue “Novecento”, he slowly begins to consider its transposition to film. After a lengthy time in production, he gives us The legend of 1900, interpreted by British actor Tim Roth and accompanied by an Ennio Morricone soundtrack. This film also received various awards: The David of Donatello, the Ciak d’Oro for best director and two Nastro d’Argento for best director and screenplay. Malèna (2000), an Italian-American co-production starring Monica Bellucci, is set once again in Sicily this time during 1940. At the Venice Film Festival in 2000 it received the Bresson Award from the Italian Film Association. In 2006 he filmed The unknown woman, which the following year is awarded three David of Donatello. The film was selected to represent Italy at the Academy Awards of 2008, nominated as best foreign film.

A cominciare proprio da toy story, dove il protagonista Woody è doppiato dal due volte Premio Oscar, Tom Hanks, mentre lo space ranger del film invece, ha le corde vocali del simpatico comico, Tim Allen.

Il mondo della creatività e della fantasia attracca ancora a Venezia. La 66° edizione della Mostra internazionale d’arte Cinematografica, infatti, premierà con il Leone d’oro alla carriera un autentico colosso dell’animazione: la pixar animation studios, nella persona di John Lasseter, in compagnia degli altri registi Disney/Pixar, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton e Lee Unkrich.

Mentre nel 2002, negli Oscar americani, veniva inserita la statuetta per il miglior film d’animazione (la cui prima edizione fu vinta da shrek, della Dreamworks), l’anno della rivoluzione a Venezia è stato il 2005 quando fu un maestro del fantasy a conquistare il leone, Hayao Miyazaki, già reduce dall’Oscar 2003 per La città incantata.

Passano appena due anni e Venezia sorprende ancora. Premio alla carriera a un indiscutibile genio della creatività, il giovane Tim Burton, che fra i suoi film più immortali, oltre a Batman (1989), edward mani di forbice (1990), il mistero

di sleepy hollow (1999), Big fish (2003), La fabbrica di cioccolato (2005), annovera anche due lungometraggi animati: nightmare before Christmas (1993, di cui cura la sceneggiatura) e La sposa cadavere (2005), presentato proprio in laguna.

In occasione della consegna del premio, domenica 6 e lunedì 7 settembre, si terranno una serie di iniziative più che uniche: la prima mondiale in 3D di toy story (il primo lungometraggio d’animazione completamente realizzato al computer, nonché primo prodotto dai Pixar Studios) e toy story 2.

Altra anteprima che passerà per la kermesse lagunare, un assaggio in esclusiva del 49° classico prodotto dalla Disney: il film natalizio the princess and the frog (atteso ritorno della Disney all’animazione tradizionale disegnata a mano) basato sulla fiaba de il principe ranocchio dei fratelli Grimm, dove fra i doppiatori originali troviamo John Goodman e l’indiscussa regina dei talk show americani, Oprah Winfrey.

The creative and fantasy world comes once more to Venice. The 66th edition of the Venice film festival will bestow film animation giant pixar animation studios with the golden Lion career achievement award. Recipients of the award will be John Lasseter as well as other Disney/Pixar directors such as Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich.

While during the 2002 American Oscars the first award for best animated film was being presented (the first winner of the award was won by the film shrek produced by Dreamworks) the revolutionary year for Venice was 2005, during which it was the animation wizard Hayao Miyazaki who conquered the Lion.

But what do actors think about animation? Judging by the names of those who have lent their vocal chords to Pixar characters, only very good things. Starting from toy story, where the main character Woody is dubbed by two time academy award winner Tom Hanks, and the space ranger character in the film has instead the funny voice of comedian Tim Allen.

Dopo essere stato il mattatore della Mostra del Cinema in ben due occasioni, nel 2005 con I segreti di Brokeback Mountain (con Heath Ledger e Gake Gyllenhaal) e nel 2007 con Lussuria, il regista e sceneggiatore ang Lee, presiederà la Giuria Internazionale del Concorso della 66. Nato e cresciuto a Taiwan, ang Lee si è trasferito negli Stati Uniti nel 1978. Qui, il suo cortometraggio Fine Line vinse il premio per il miglior regista e il miglior film al NYU Film Festival.

After having been the star of the Venice Film Festival in two occasions, in 2005 with Brokeback Mountain (starring Heath Ledger and Gake Gyllenhaal) and in 2007 with Lust, Caution, the director and screenwriter ang Lee will oversee the International Jury for the Competition of the 66th International Venice Film Festival (September 2 – 12, 2009), which will award the Leone d’oro and the other official awards.

Born and raised in Taiwan, Ang Lee moved to the United States in 1978. After obtaining his degree in theatre at the University of Illinois, he attended New York University for a Master degree in cinematography. Here, his short film Fine Line won the award for best director and best film at the NYU Film Festival.

The first feature film by ang Lee, Pushing Hands, was presented in 1992 at the Berlin Film Festival. The year which made the Asian director known to the general public was however 1995 when, orchestrating a cast with stars of the caliber of Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, he presented Sense and Sensibility.

Another cinematic mile stone by Ang Lee is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), an international success, first premiered world-wide at the Cannes Film Festival and winner of the Toronto Film Festival. For this film ang Lee also obtained a Golden Globe and a Directors Guild Award as best director. It also drew crowds at the Oscars on the following year where it was awarded 4 awards, including best foreign film.

He obtained additional acclaim in 2005, when Lee created for Focus the film Brokeback Mountain, based on the short story by Annie Proulx. Interpreted by Australian actor Heath Ledger (tragically departed last January) and Jake Gyllenhaal, the film has won the Leone d’oro at the Venice Film Festival, the Directors Guild award, the Golden Globe and three Oscars including the Oscar for best director.

His most recent feature film, Lust, Caution, is dated 2007 and consists in an espionage melodrama set in Shanghai during World War Two. It’s an adaptation of a short story by Eileen Chang and is interpreted by Tang Wei, Joan Chen and Tony Leung. The film, in addition to a Leone d’oro won at the Venice Film Festival, won seven Golden horses in Taiwan and was nominated as best foreign film at the 2008 Golden Globes.

ang Lee, one of the most awarded directors in recent years, a director capable of initiating a dialogue between Western and Eastern film cultures, has just completed filming Taking Woodstock. Nel concerto serale al teatro La fenice, con l’omonima orchestra diretta dalla trentaduenne portoghese Joana Carneiro, già assistente di Esa-Pekka Salonen a Los Angeles e oggi alla guida della Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, il brano della compositrice svedese Karin Rehnqvist, Solsången, introduce l’altro motivo del Corpo del suono: la forza primordiale della musica, che nasce con il corpo e nel legame con la terra. A prestare la sua prodigiosa voce per Solsången è la cantante folk-jazz Lena Willmark, nota in tutta Europa. Nel concerto della Fenice la matrice etnica convive con nuovi echi dell’universo varèsiano: Formen/Zwei Formen di Wolfgang Rihm, dedicato al compositore franco-americano, e Arcana dello stesso Varèse, un altro caposaldo dell’estetica di questo autore, presente come una linea carsica nella programmazione. A lui si affianca un’altra figura fondamentale della musica contemporanea, Ligeti, di cui viene eseguito Lontano.

Ed è a György Kurtág, Leone d’oro alla carriera 2009 per la musica, che viene riservato un omaggio all’interno del Festival. Dell’autore che “ha saputo racchiudere il mondo in un suono”, come recita la motivazione del premio, verranno eseguiti i

momenti salienti della sua biografica artistica.É attraverso la collaborazione con le orchestre e gli ensemble del territorio del Veneto, con le istituzioni come l’Università Ca’ Foscari, il Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello e la Fondazione G. Cini che la Biennale di Venezia rafforza una sinergia volta a valorizzare le risorse in campo per proiettarle in progetti di respiro internazionale. In questa prospettiva si colloca l’intervento della Regione del Veneto a sostegno dei programmi dei settori dello spettacolo dal vivo della Biennale di Venezia.

73 composers from around the world – United States, Japan, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Norway, Greece, Belgium, Switzerland, Serbia, Chile, France, Spain and Italy – with 87 performances, 16 of which entirely new, spread during the course of 9 days. Convinced that “the present listens to the past and looks towards the future” the director Luca Francesconi builds the Festival searching for connections between different generations, tracing a path between past and present. The day of the inauguration is assembled around two main themes, which meet during the entire duration of the Festival and finally converge in a single program during the final evening. There is on the one hand the sound, thought of as living matter to be explored; accepting noise as well. On the other hand there is an attention towards all the popular material from which many authors of fine music have drawn inspiration, a world attached to the oral tradition, in which the body speaks through music.

in the halls of the teatro alle tese with a technological explosion: all starts in the theater’s foyer with a performance by Suguru Goto who gives life to an idea, one that has tickled since the time of futuristic music, of having an automated ensemble: robot musicians that are faster, more resistant and precise; robot musicians that go beyond human limits and annihilate the performer. The event continues in the theater with a concert by the J Futura Orchestra which short circuits the innovative scores of Edgard Varèse, Hyperprism and Integrales, by Georges Antheil, Ballet Mécanique with contemporary works deriving from that revolution: Danse canonique 2, by the Swedish twenty-seven year old musician Ansgar Beste and Emergency Survival Guide, by thirty-two year old Russian musician Dmitri Kourliandski. Both music scores have been commissioned by the Biennale and have been entirely deprived of all of those elements typically associated with music, in favor of pure noise.

The evening concert at teatro La fenice is performed by the theater’s orchestra, conducted by the thirty-two year old Portuguese Joana Carneiro (previously assistant to Esa-Pekka Salonen in Los Angeles and today at the head of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra). Solsången, by Swedish composer Karin Rehnqvist, is the opening score

which also introduces the other motif, that of the “Sound as living matter”: the primordial force of music, a music which begins with its essence and bond with the earth. Lending her exceptional voice to the Solsånen will folk-jazz singer Lena Willmark, renown throughout Europe. During the concert at the Fenice, the ethnic template coexists with the new echoes of the varèsian universe: Formen/Zwei Formen by Wolfgang Rihm, dedicated to the French-American composer, and Arcana by Varèse himself, another major work representing the author’s aesthetics, presented as a karstic line in the event’s schedule. Rihm is accompanied by another fundamental figure in contemporary music, Ligeti, whose score Lontano is executed.

Finally it is to György Kurtág, recipient of the 2009 Leone d’Oro lifetime achievement award for music, to whom a special homage is reserved within the Festival. From the author who “has known how to enclose the world in a sound”, as the award’s motivation recites, will be executed the most significant moments of his artistic biography. It is through its collaboration with the Veneto’s orchestras and ensembles, with institutions such as Cà Foscari University, the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory and the Fondazione G. Cini that the Biennale di Venezia can strengthen a synergy meant to add value to the resources available and channel these into projects with an international breadth. It is within this perspective we see the Regione Veneto’s involvement in sustaining the programs of the sectors for live performances of the Biennale di Venezia. retrospettiva “tra eternità e storia” 1884-2009, che rimarrà aperta al pubblico dal 22 fino al 13 settembre 2009.

La mostra ripercorre le fasi più significative della storia e dell’evoluzione del design Bulgari, dall’apertura del primo negozio in Via Sistina nel 1884 fino ai giorni nostri. Un percorso descritto da più di cinquecento creazioni tra gioielli, orologi ed altri oggetti preziosi appartenenti alla “Collezione Vintage”, un patrimonio storico di eccezionale pregio custodito negli archivi della maison o provenienti da collezioni private e mai esposte al pubblico prima d’ora.

Era il lontano 1884 quando sotirio Bulgari, argentiere greco, trasferitosi nel Bel Paese, aprì il suo primo negozio a Roma, al numero 85 di via Sistina. Passano poco più di vent’anni e, nel 1905, apre lo storico negozio di via dei Condotti 10, ancora oggi simbolo della tradizione dell’azienda e uno dei più importanti negozi Bulgari del mondo.

Nel 1960, il grande passo. Bulgari si allontana dalle rigide regole della scuola francese e crea uno stile proprio ed originale, ispirato al classicismo greco romano, al Rinascimento italiano ed alla scuola orafa

romana del XIX secolo, prendono vita gioielli di straordinaria importanza e valore, quali, ad esempio, i pezzi unici della Bulgari high Jewellery Collection e nel corso degli anni vengono create numerose linee estetiche di grande successo.

Un’intera sezione è dedicata agli anni della dolce Vita, con ritratti e testimonianze dei divi dell’epoca, disegni preparatori per gioielli da utilizzare sul set, estratti di pellicole famose in cui i gioielli Bulgari sono indossati dalle più note dive del momento, tutto ciò evidenzia gli stretti rapporti esistenti tra Bulgari e l’industria

cinematografica, un legame iniziato negli anni ’40 e divenuto nel tempo sempre più forte.

All’interno di questa sezione sarà possibile ammirare, per la prima volta in assoluto, gli spettacolari gioielli indossati da alcune delle più celebri star del cinema di

quegli anni, come Anna Magnani e Gina Lollobrigida. Un’intera sala sarà riservata alla favolosa collezione di Elisabeth Taylor, un’occasione unica e irripetibile per ammirare alcune delle più straordinarie creazioni.

Sempre nell’ambito delle iniziative in programma nel 2009 per festeggiare il 125° anniversario dalla sua fondazione, Bulgari ha deciso di sostenere la campagna “riscriviamo il futuro” (campagna internazionale per garantire un’istruzione di qualità a otto milioni di bambini che vivono in paesi in guerra) di save the Children, la più grande organizzazione internazionale indipendente per i diritti dei minori, mettendo all’asta una straordinaria collezione composta da 11 creazioni uniche di alta gioielleria e 7 pezzi di alta orologeria in edizione limitata che saranno battuti all’asta da Christie’s New York il prossimo 8 dicembre 2009.

L’obiettivo è di raggiungere i 10 milioni di Euro, di cui 1 milione di Euro è stato già donato all’organizzazione. La cifra rimanente verrà raccolta nel corso dell’anno grazie all’asta benefica di Christie’s e all’anello in argento che Bulgari ha creato appositamente per sostenere “Riscriviamo il Futuro”.L’anello è in vendita dal 5 febbraio al 31 dicembre 2009 in tutti i negozi Bulgari del mondo, in alcuni selezionati department stores e sul sito Internet di Bulgari dedicato all’e-commerce e attivo negli Stati Uniti, al prezzo di 290 euro (iVa inclusa) di cui 50 euro saranno devoluti alla campagna.

It was way back in 1884 when sotirio Bulgari, a Greek silversmith, moved to Italy and opened his first shop in Rome, at Via Sistina n. 85. Less than twenty years went by and, in 1905, he opened the landmark shop in Via dei Condotti n. 10; a symbol still today of the company’s tradition and one of the most important Bulgari shops in the world. 1960 was a year in which a great change took place. Bulgari abandoned the strict rules of the French school and created its own unique and original style. Inspired by Greek and Roman classicism, the Italian Renaissance and by the forgotten tradition of the 19th century Roman goldsmiths, the new style delivered jewels of extraordinary importance and value, such as the unique pieces of the Bulgari High Jewelry Collection and, over the years, numerous more artistic collections of great success were created.

Bulgari places its name on watches, fragrances, eye glasses, cosmetics and hotels. It opens more and more shops along the most renowned streets of the world’s leading cities. On May 22 2009, for the brand’s 125th anniversary, its first retrospective “From History to Eternity: 1884-2009” was inaugurated in the prestigious Palazzo delle Esposizioni; the exposition will remain open to the public until September 13th 2009.

The exposition retraces the most significant phases in the history and evolution of the Bulgari design; from the opening of the first shop in Via Sistina in 1884 until today. It is a journey amidst more than five hundred creations of jewels, watches and other precious articles belonging to the “Vintage Collection”; a historical legacy of exceptional value normally preserved in the Maison’s archives or never before shown articles belonging to private collections.

In addition to the jewels and watches, the retrospective

also showcases a collection of unpublished documents: sketches and drawings from the various historical periods and photographic images of famous artists, great aristocrats and famous clients. An entire section is dedicated to the years of the dolce Vita, with portraits and tributes from the period’s leading actors, preliminary drawings of jewels used on movie sets and famous film extracts in which Bulgari jewels are worn by the leading divas of the time. The section hence highlights the strong bond existing between Bulgari and the Cinema industry; a bond forged during the 1940s which has become stronger and stronger during the course of time.

In this section it will be possible to admire, for the first time ever, the spectacular jewels worn by some of the most famous movie stars of those years, such as Anna Magnani and Gina Lollobrigida. An entire hall will be reserved to Elizabeth Taylor’s fabulous collection. A unique and one time only opportunity to admire some of the most extraordinary Bulgari creations: sixteen unique articles of exceptional value, each with an important story to tell. Amongst these stands out Elizabeth Taylor’s brooch, decorated with diamonds and central 18 carat emerald and given to her by Richard Burton for their engagement in 1962. It was just this jewel that the actress chose to wear for her first marriage with Burton, celebrated on March 15, 1964.

Among the 2009 initiatives to celebrate to its 125th anniversary, Bulgari has also decided to sustain the “rewrite the future” campaign (an international campaign to guarantee a quality education to eight million children living in war zones) by save the Children, the largest independent international organization for the rights of minors. To help the charity organization, on December 8th 2009 Bulgari will auction an extraordinary collection of 11 unique creations of grand jewellery

as well as 7 grand watches in limited edition at Christie’s of New York.

The goal is to collect 10 million Euros; 1 million of which has already been donated to the organization. The remaining amount will be raised during the course of the year thanks to the charity auction at Christie’s as well as the silver ring which Bulgari has especially created to sustain “Rewrite the Future”.the ring is on sale from february 5th to december 31st 2009 in the Bulgari shops around the world, in selected department stores and, in the United States, on Bulgari’s e-commerce web site at a price of 290 Euro (VAT included); 50 Euro of which will be donated to the campaign.

La fondazione prada presenta una mostra antologica dedicata all’artista John wesley.

L’esposizione a cura di Germano Celanti consiste nella più vasta ed esauriente rassegna finora realizzata sull’attività di wesley, considerato una delle figure più interessanti ed enigmatiche dell’arte contemporanea americana.

Verranno presentate oltre 150 opere partendo dalle prime degli anni ‘60 fino agli anni più recenti contrassegnati da una maggiore libertà creativa.

Il suo uso di soggetti popolari derivati da fumetti e fotografie pubblicitarie lo hanno fatto associare all’arte Pop, ma anche a quella Minimal a causa dell’essenzialità e del rigore compositivo. Le sue opere, comunque, si sottraggono alla definizione critica poiché veicolano un intricato mondo personale ove si mescolano i sentimenti più intimi dell’artista.

John wesley vive e lavora a New York, nell’arco della sua carriera ha partecipato a numerose mostre tra cui Popular Image, ICA, Mixed Media and Pop Art, AlbrightKnox art Gallery, Documenta 5 mentre molti musei e centri gli hanno dedicato numerose antologie.

The Fondazione Prada presents an anthological exposition dedicated to the artist John Wesley.

Over 150 works will be showcased. The event will conduct spectators through an in depth study of Wesley’s language, starting from the first works created in the 1960s up to more recent works marked by the creative freedom of the American artist.

Due to his use of popular themes drawn from comic strips and photo advertisements, he has been associated to Pop art, as well as Minimal art as a result of the bare essentiality and compositional rigor in his works. Wesley, at any rate, eludes a simple critical definition.

His works convey an intricate personal world where the artist’s most intimate feelings are intertwined.

John Wesley lives and works in New York and, during his career, has participated to numerous exhibitions such as: Popular Image, ICA, Mixed Media and Pop Art, Albright-Knox Art Gallery and Documenta 5. Many museums and art centres have dedicate numerous anthologies to Wesley’s work.

Ci si chiede: questa è “arte”? Cholla è già considerato uno dei quattro animali più quotati al mondo, dopo lo scimpanzè Congo che dipingeva appunto negli anni ‘50 e i cui quadri furono anche apprezzati da Picasso e battuti all’asta (cosa ben diversa dal comportamento ripetitivo di alcuni elefanti-pittori, chiaramente ammaestrati).

Le opere di Cholla sono in mostra a Venezia in esclusiva alla galleria d’arte giudecca 795 (Fondamenta San Biagio 795, a pochi metri dall’hotel Molino Stucky Hilton, tra i partner dell’iniziativa). Ma se gli acquerelli di Cholla fanno pensare, discutere, anche sorridere, ed hanno emozionato non pochi visitatori per il loro carattere così unico, allora forse è il concetto, l’idea della mostra ad essere arte.

Avete letto bene: Cholla (pronuncia “Ciòglia”, nome spagnolo), dipinge ed è... un cavallo! Ha 23 anni, dei suoi lavori si è detto che hanno “il fuoco di Pollock”, dipinge spontaneamente e senza ammaestramento tenendo il pennello tra i denti e raccogliendo il colore da sé. Non è né una “bufala” né un fenomeno da circo: Cholla è semiselvaggio, vive in un ranch del Nevada, dove continua a correre e a dipingere senza nessuna costrizione. La sua attitudine è stata scoperta per caso ed è oggetto di studio da parte degli etologi, le sue “opere” sono acquerelli astratti che destano curiosità ed interesse da parte di critici e appassionati d’arte, e colpisco graphic designer all’inseguimento di analoghi segni “primordiali”. A Cholla è stato dedicato addirittura uno spazio dal Financial Times uscito il 6 giugno scorso, giorno di apertura della Biennale.

I dipinti di Cholla sono stati esposti negli Usa, e Venezia è la prima delle sue mostre internazionali. Lui non ci sarà, trasportare un cavallo così grande per qualche “esibizione” sarebbe rischioso, inutile e poco etico, queste le parole della proprietaria Renee Chambers (ballerina classica) e dei galleristi.In mostra a Venezia ci sono i video di Cholla mentre dipinge, insieme a 30 acquerelli originali eseguiti tra il 2004 (anno degli esordi “artistici” del cavallo) ed il 2009, oltre a stampe giclée (a 6 colori) e al suo primo catalogo. Opere e stampe sono in

vendita, una parte del ricavato viene devoluta alla proprietaria. Una cosa è certa secondo il noto etologo Danilo Mainardi: “il comportamento è di sicuro interesse scientifico”, perché Cholla mostra intenzionalità e consapevolezza, “dipinge perché lo vuole fare, in tutta libertà”, prendendo da solo il colore, senza masticare né rompere il pennello, a volte è necessario aiutarlo quando il pennello scivola per la salivazione. Dice Mainardi:”Cholla è un cavallo bellissimo e ben trattato. Il comportamento che più m’ha stupefatto è una sequenza in cui Cholla, che inizialmente aveva malamente trattenuto tra le labbra il pennello, che si presentava tutto di sghembo e perciò era praticamente inutilizzabile, s’è spontaneamente messo a rigirarselo in bocca e l’ha finalmente ben posizionato. E’ stato solo a questo punto che ha dato inizio alla sua ingenua opera pittorica. Non è una cosa da poco, credetemi, questo comportamento. Sembra indicare consapevolezza e intenzionalità, perché il cavallo agisce senza essere minimamente costretto. Lo fa perché - almeno così sembra - lo vuole fare. Cholla non si comporta come un cavallo ammaestrato, e così anche sostiene la sua proprietaria. Probabilmente ha iniziato a fare quel che fa per gioco. Cholla, soprattutto a paragone di tanti altri cavalli mal trattati, può venir considerato a suo modo un cavallo felice. E questo, per me almeno, è importante. Il

You’ve read well: Cholla (pronounced “Ciòglia”, Spanish name), paints and is …a horse! He is 23 years old and of his works it has been said that they have “Pollock’s fire”. He paints spontaneously and without training, holding the brush with his teeth and picks up the paint by himself. It’s not a joke nor a cricus act: Cholla is half wild, lives on a ranch in Nevada, where he continues to run and paint without restrictions. His ability was discovered by chance and has been the object of a study by ethologists. His “works” are abstract watercolors which spark curiosity and interest by critics and art enthusiasts, and inspire graphic designers looking for similar “primordial” signs. Cholla has been given space on the Financial Times published last June 6th , at the opening day of the Biennale.

Cholla’s paintings have been shown in the US, and Venice will be his first international exhibition. He won’t be present, to transport such a large horse for some “exhibition” would be risky, unnecessary and immoral, these were the words by its owner Renee Chambers (classical ballerina) and by the gallery owners. The exhibition also shows videos of Cholla while he paints, along with 30 original watercolors made between 2004 (year of the horse’s “artistic debut”) and 009, as well as glicée prints ( in 6 colors) and his first catalog. Works and prints are on sale; proceeds from sales will be given to charity by the owner. One thing is certain, according to ethologist Danilo Mainardi: “the behavior is of certain scientific interest”, because Cholla displays deliberateness and awareness, “he paints because he wishes to, freely”, picking up the colors by himself without chewing or braking the brush, sometimes he needs to be helped as the brush slips due to salivation.

States Mainardi: “Cholla is a beautiful and well treated horse. The behavior that amazed me the most is a sequence in which Cholla, who initially had a poor hold on to the brush with his

lips and was off to the side and unusable, spontaneously began to turn it in his mouth until he had a better hold of the brush. It’s only after this operation that he began his creative painting. Believe me, this type of behavior is no small matter. It indicates awareness and deliberateness, as the horse is not even minimally forced into doing it. Cholla doesn’t behave like a trained horse, as his owner also sustains. He probably began to do what he does as a game. Cholla, especially when compared to many mistreated horses, can be considered in his own way a happy horse. And this, for me at least, is important. His case could be similar to that of the chimpanzee painters”.

One asks himself: is this “art”? Cholla is already considered one of the four most quoted animals in the world, after the chimpanzee Congo that painted in the 50s, whose paintings were also appreciated by Picasso and sold during auctions (a very different behavior compared to the repetitive behavior of some trained elephants).

Cholla’s works are exhibited in Venice eclusively at the giudecca 795 art gallery (Fondamenta San Biagio 795, a few meters away from the Molino Stucky Hilton hotel, one of the event’s sponsors). But if Cholla’s watercolors make us think, discuss, even smile and have moved so many spectators for their unique character, then maybe it’s the concept, the exhibition’s idea which can be considered art.

During the three days of the Festival, The Europe’s Largest Ciy Park will be transformed in a evocative frame for sporting events, dimonstrations of equestrian disciplines, numerous entertainment venues and shows. An area will also be prepared which will display an special exposition of products relating to tradition, wellbeing, amusement and adventure: clothing products, horse riding accessories and tools, furnishings, horse turism, trailers, specialized press and objects from country life.

Within this area will be a special event: an exposition of horse breeds curated by AIA (Italian Association of Breeders) which will bring to san giuliano park the most sought-after and renown horses. Many are the new activities planned for the second edition of this event, starting with the sporting events placed in the program thanks to a partnership with FISE - Italian Equestrian Sports Federation – such as the speed race “Barrel race, the performance races Western Pleasure Reining, Trail Horse and the spectacular disciplines of Vaulting and Attacks.

The event, a real “horse festival”, will involve the public and favor the presence of a targeted group of competent and specialized professionals, sportsmen and horse aficionados. A passion for freedom, a rediscovery of nature’s rhythms, search for quality, for harmony and simplicity: the country style has its roots in the past and, at the same time, favors new ws of socializing, thanks to the open air, the genuine sport culture, the attention towards the environment and ecology.

The Codatronca is a timeless machine, a mixture of technical progress, magnificence and design. A prime example of Italian craftsmanship: shapes – quality – details. The ts Codatronca is built by Sparta Vetture Sporto srl, is based on the Corvette’s frame with a

design which is faithfull to its name “Codatronca” (Truncated tail). We’re talking about a 2 seater coupé equipped with a 7 liter, V8 engine with aluminum cover, compatible with E85 fuel and which releases a maximum power of 630 HP at 6500 cycles a minute, with a maximum torque of 668 nm at 4800 cycles. The shift has 6 gears, in 6th gear at 7000 rpm, limited electronically, the car reaches a top speed of 335 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Traction control can be adjusted at 3 levels, the automobile is equipped with a telemetric system with 40 channels able to accumulate up to 80 hours of data. The coachwork is a composite material resting on an aluminum frame, the suspensions are adjustable, as are the front and rear anti-rollover bars (separately) in four levels of hardness. The car is equipped with OZ Racing 19” hub caps mounted on Pirelli P-Zero tires measuring 285/35/19” (front tires) and 385/35/19” (rear tires). The breaking system is made by Brembo with 380 mm discs equipped with racing pads and 8 calipers in the front, and 355 mm discs with 4 caliper pads governed by an ABS system. The car maker has preannounced that in addition to the current model, a more powerful version named TSS (Turismo Super Turismo) has been built, with a power of roughly 700 HP, 950 Nm, 355 Km/h, 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds. The supercar is built in limited series (and therefore in very limited numbers) and has very unique characteristics. The front of the car is very bold, with a straight and hard cut, similar to a Lamborghini Estoque, but it’s the back of the monster which is particularly unique, as the tail of the car seems everything but the tail of an automobile; the shapes instead seem more similar to those of a military plane. Oscar Pistorius and Alex Zanardi lead the sprint at the 24th Venicemarathon Casinò Trophy due to take place in Venice on October 25th . The multi-champion paraolympian in the 100, 200 and 400 meters and the great Formula 1 and Formula Cart pilot – today champion also in handbike racing – will both be the hosts at the 24th edition of the Marathon of Venice and of all the social and goodwill projects which the race sponsors.

Alex and Oscar will also support the “Accessible Venice – barriers are overtaken with a sprint” project to sustain the Venice City Council initiative originally created thanks to the insight of the Venicemarathon organizers. The project consists in prolonging the time frame in which the wooden ramps, used on the thirteen bridges of the marathon, are positioned, to facilitate the usability and access to the city on the part of disabled citizens.

“I am genuinely honored to be a testimonial for this important project – stated the South African champ – and this year I will participate even more actively by also taking part in the Family Run at the San Giuliano Park. After the Berlin World Games, it could be the race which challenges me the most”.

Alex is also strongly committed to the accessibility of Venice: “I wish to help in making this splendid initiative, of making Venice accessible to those on wheelchairs, or who simply have difficulty in crossing bridges and the architectural barriers which characterize the city, more well-known. These people normally

have the tendency to stay home, of giving up the pleasure of travelling or simply of going out because of their fear of the likely difficulties. This is why I come to Venice, to run in the handbike race and do my best to promote this important program”.

The athletes of this year’s Venicemarathon will also run to help the Bimbingamba project of the Nicolò Campo Association of which Alex is a testimonial. This project was created to provide prosthetic limbs to children who due to illness, accidents or wars have lost one or more limbs. Alex has decided to use all his acquired knowledge and experience pertaining to prosthetics and orthopedic technicians gained since he lost his legs in 2001 following a terrible accident on the German Lausitzring circuit during an automobile race. He wishes to assist in expediting the process for children who desperately await prosthetic limbs to restart a normal life.

The Venicemarathon Casinò di Venezia Trophy’s is more and more committed to supplying drinking water in Uganda through the ‘Run for Water, Run for Life’ project managed and curated by the Africa Mission – Cooperazione e Sviluppo charity organization.

The precious cooperation with Casinò di Venezia is being renewed, while the sponsorships by Banco San Marco, Groupama, Oviesse, Insula, Gruppo Veritas, San Benedetto, ACTV, Vela, Coldiretti, Biscotti Palmisano and the Russott Hotel have been reconfirmed.
