The needs around the world today are great. Even though they

cannot miraculously produce food, it w

Jesus was a unique manThe Gospel affirm

Jesus surprised them by rem

He knew that he had com

needs. The people did not understand! Was there som

ore important than providing for the physical needs of

people? They wanted nothing m

PEOPLE ARE HUNGRYWHAT CAN WE DO?

Many years ago a very well-known leader wasmade aware that those who had come tohear him were hungry. He was a man ofgreat compassion, so he asked his disciplesto feed this enormous crowd of over 5,000

people. The only remedy they could think of was to sendthem all home, for they had only a little money, ve loaves ofbread, and two sh.

Even today, for many, believing there m

portant than providing for theneedy around the w

orld is not only incompre-

hensible, but also outrageous. People need food,w

ater, and shelter; all else is just empty w

ords.

Jesus, after feeding the crowd, stated: Do not

work for the food that perishes, but for the

food that endures to eternal life (Gospel of

John 6:23). There is indeed something m

ore im

portant than daily food! There is something

far more crucial and urgent: the eternal destiny

of men and w

omen! The crow

ds were con-

cerned only about their physical needs. Jesusw

anted to provide much, m

uch more.

The Bread of Life He said to them

, I am the bread of life; w

es to me shall not hunger, and w

hoe-ver believes in m

e shall never thirst(Gospel

of John 6:35). Physical thirst and hunger pale inlight of eternal, spiritual needs.

Think about it: even if someone fed the w

holew

orld every day and provided for everyonesneeds, people w

ould still eventually die. Andthen w

hat? Our greatest problem is still our

eternal destiny.

Jesus had come to earth with a specic missionAfter living a perfect, sinless life, he w

ould die ona cross for people like you and m

e, who have

comm

itted many sins. The Bible, Gods W

ord, affirm

s that our sin condemns us to judgm

ent andeternal punishm

ent. For the wages of sin is

death, but the free gift of God is eternal life inChrist Jesus our Lord

(Romans 6:23).

Many, w

hen they hear the word sin, are offend-

ed, for we tend to justify or m

inimize our sins.

We com

pare ourselves to others and conclude,m

any times rightly so, that they behave far w

orsethan w

e do. The problem is that for God, no sins

are acceptable, even the ones we consider

insignificant. They all offend a Holy God.

Unless you and I realize that our greatest problemis our sin, w

e will never go to Jesus to receive the

gift of eternal life. We w

ill continue to work only

to meet the im

mediate needs w

e see around us.W

hile that is not wrong in itself, the fact rem

ainsthat w

e will surely die and w

ill have to face the righteous judgm

ent of God upon our sin.

Jesus stated that the solution to our sin problemis not found in a religion or in good w

orks, but inrepenting of our sin and trusting in Him

alone forour salvation. He said: I am

the way, and the

truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father

except through me

(Gospel of John 14:6).

What did the m

ajority of the people do, eventhough they had just w

itnessed a miracle? They

left unhappy and disgruntled. Our invitation foryou is to find out m

ore about Jesus and what it

really means to believe in Him

ann, der alle ihreBedrfnisse, ja sogar all ihre Trum

e, erfllen konnte.Doch Jesus erstaunte sie, denn er zog sich von der M

asse zurck. Er w

usste, dass er auf die Erde gekomm

en war, um

viel grere Bedrfnisse zustillen. Die M

enschen verstanden das nicht! Gab es etwas W

ichtigeres, als frdie physischen Bedrfnisse der M

enschen zu sorgen? Ihnen war das genug.

Fr viele Menschen ist es selbst heute noch unvorstellbar, ja sogar em

p-rend, zu m

einen, es gbe etwas W

ichtigeres, als sich um die Bedrftigen in der

Welt zu sorgen. M

enschen brauchen Nahrung, Wasser und Schutz; alles andere

sind nur leere Worte.

Vor vielen Jahren wurde einem bekannten Leiter mitgeteilt, dass die,die gekommen waren ihm zuzuhren, Hunger hatten. Er war ein sehrbarm-herziger Mann, also trug er seinen Jngern auf, diese riesigeMenge von ber 5000 Menschen mit Essen zu versorgen. Die ein-zige Lsung, die denen einel, war alle nach Hause zu schicken denn sie hatten kaum Geld und nur fnf Laibe Brot und zwei Fische.

Nachdem Jesus der M

enge zu essen gege-ben hatte, sagte er: W

6,27). Denn es gibt in der Tat etwas, das w

ichti-ger ist, als das tgliche Essen! Es ist w

eitaus en-tscheidender und dringender: es ist die Fragedanach, w

o Mnner und Frauen die Ew

igkeit ver-bringen! Die M

enschenmenge sorgte sich nur um

ihre physischen Bedrfnisse. Aber Jesus wollte

ihnen viel, viel mehr geben.

Er sagte zu ihnen: Ich bin dasBrot

des Lebens.

Physische Dinge, wie Durst und

Hunger, verblassen im Licht von

ewigen, geistlichen Bedrfnissen.Denk einm

elt mit Nahrung versorgen,

und auch sonst jegliche Bedrfnisse stillenw

rde die Menschenw

rden im Endeffekt

trotzdem sterben. Und w

verbringen.Jesus kam

auf die Erde mit einem

klarenAuftrag. Nachdem

er ein perfektes, sndlosesLeben gelebt htte, w

rde er am Kreuz fr

Menschen w

ie dich und mich sterben fr

Menschen, die viele Snden begangen haben.

Die Bibel, Gottes Wort, betont, dass unsere

Snde uns zum Gericht und zu ew

iger Verdam-

mnis verurteilt. Denn der Lohn der Snde ist

der Tod; aber die Gnadengabe Gottes ist dasew

ige Leben in Christus Jesus, unseremHerrn

(Rmer 6,23).

Viele sind vor den Kopf gestoen, wenn sie

den Begriff Snde hren, denn wir neigen

dazu, unsere Snde zu rechtfertigen oder klein-

zureden. Wir vergleichen uns m

it anderen undkom

men zu dem

Schluss, oft sogar nicht zuUnrecht dass sie sich viel schlim

mer verhal-

ten, als wir es tun. Aber das Problem

ist, dassvor Gott keine Snde zulssig ist, selbst dienicht, die w

ir als unbedeutend betrachten. Jegli-che Snde verstt gegen einen Heiligen Gott.

guten Werken liegt, sondern im
