quadrangular volume, the end of which is cut by a diagonal partition, that gives the entrance a di-stinctive layout and configures the plan like an elongated trapezium, limited by a succession of service areas: interpreter cabins, wardrobe, offi-ces. The other end of the hall features the stand for speakers; also this is faced with basalt stone in technical ceramic material. In fact, the entire interior owes its character to variations on a the-me, namely that of a single material as it appears with various craftings and surface treatments: the basalt stone from the New Stone collection by GranitiFiandre. All the walls of the hall are conse-quently faced with thin tiles in the characteristic dark gray color, that renders the atmosphere in-timate and easy to darken. Both the walls and the floors are faced with stone tiles of various formats with streaked surface, while the central area is defined by a semi-polished surface that continues to the speaker platform to the wall behind, that separates the stand from the backstage area. The inlaying of the Luminous Tiles from the Geolo-gica collection in the central part of the floor, in the area where the chairs are placed, creates a

Luogo di incontro tra cultura produttiva e proget-tuale, la nuova meeting room GranitiFiandre, ri-cavata all’interno del Megastore di Castellarano, esprime quello spirito di ricerca e innovazione che costituisce da anni la linea programmatica del-l’azienda. Il progetto e la realizzazione di questa piccola sala congressi costituisce pertanto un’oc-casione di sperimentazione sull’impiego della ceramica tecnica come rivestimento di superfici orizzontali e verticali. Il progetto può essere considerato come il com-pletamento dell’adiacente showroom, realizzato sempre dallo studio Archea Associati nel 2002. La configurazione massiva dell’assieme ripropone Il tema dell’analogia con la cava intesa come spa-zialità ricavata dall’utilizzo della materia. In questa occasione si tratta di una sorta di scavo nella roccia mentre nella precedente realizzazione, l’impianto scenografico era incentrato sul principio di smate-rializzazzione realizzato attraverso una sequenza di volumi vetrati che galleggiano su un sottofon-do di sabbie, quarzi e ghiaie. A stage for meetings between manufacturing sector and design culture, the new meeting room of GranitiFiandre, created in the Megastore in Ca-stellarano, witnesses the focus on research and innovation that has characterized the company’s philosophy for years. The design and realization of this small convention hall has therefore repre-sented an opportunity to experiment the use of hi-gh-tech ceramics for the facing of horizontal and vertical surfaces. The project may be considered as the completion of the adjacent showroom, that was realized by the self-same Archea Associated firm in 2002. The massive configuration of the aggregate is inspired by the theme of the analogy with the quarry, understood as spatiality obtained as a result of the exploitation of the material. In this case it was a matter of a kind of excavation in the rock, while the previous project is inspi-red by a principle of dematerialization, and takes the form of a series of glazed volumes suspended on a foundation of sand, quartz and shingle. The new meeting room is on the contrary a more solid and contained area, featuring a single material. In spatial and distributive terms it consists of a

sophisticated effect, making it appear as if every single seat floats. To create this kind of “lumine-scent carpet” it has been necessary to cut the sin-gle tiles with hydrojet technology, to reduce any imperfection in the transition between the diffe-rent facing elements. The rhythmic pattern of the floor modules is echoed by the ceiling where the lighting units in plaster created by Martini have been embedded precisely above each chair. The vertical surfaces feature a new and unusual fastening system, that is normally used for the installation of ventilated walls. The interspace between the outer wall and the basalt stone tiles, assembled mechanically without glues or concre-te, not only offers outstanding acoustic and ther-mal insulation of the interior, but has also made it possible to sculpt the wall surface and create a recessed strip along the perimeter. This long cut in the wall underscores the concept of erosion in-spiring the project, underscoring the perspective effects of the interior, and may if necessary serve as a display structure for products.In addition to the creation of a special prototype for a lighting unit embedded in the ventilated wall, a computerized system for the regulation of the intensity and chromatic shade of the light that gives the interior its striking atmosphere has been realized. An essential overall design and a simplified use of the material characterizes this new meeting room of GranitiFiandre, that testi-fies how a direct collaboration with the technical experts of the company has made it possible for the Archea firm to fully exploit the expressive potential of high-tech ceramics, thus offering a small contribution towards the use of these ma-terials also in interiors.

Spazialmente e distribu-tivamente la sala è caratterizzata dalla presenza di un volume quadrangolare, tagliato nella parte terminale da un setto diagonale, che nel definire l’ingresso configura la pianta come un trapezio allungato delimitato da una sequenza di spazi destinati alle zone di servizio: cabine di traduzio-ne simultanea, guardaroba, uffici. Sul lato oppo-sto, nella parte frontale della sala, è collocato il palco per i relatori posizionato sopra una pedana ancora rivestita in lastre di Pietra Basaltina in ce-ramica tecnica. L’ambiente è infatti definito nella sua interezza dalla declinazione di un unico ma-teriale nelle sue diverse tecniche di applicazione e finitura superficiale: la Pietra Basaltina della collezione New Stone di GranitiFiandre. Tutte le pareti della sala risultano conseguentemente rivestite con lastre sottili dal caratteristico colo-re grigio scuro in modo da rendere l’atmosfera opportunamente soffusa e facilmente oscurabile. Sia per le pareti che per il pavimento sono state scelte lastre tagliate in diversi formati con finitura fiammata, mentre la zona centrale è identificata da una superficie semi levigata che si proten-de sulla pedana dei relatori fino alla retrostan-te parete di separazione con le zone retropalco. L’intarsio delle Lastre Luminose della collezione Geologica nella parte centrale del pavimento, in corrispondenza delle sedute, crea un sofisticato effetto di galleggiamento di ogni singolo posto.Per la realizzazione di questa sorta di “tappeto lu-minescente” è stato impiegato il taglio ad idroget-to delle singole lastre, in modo da ridurre qual-siasi eventuale imperfezione nell’accostamento dei diversi moduli di rivestimento. degli elementi che disegnano le superfici a terra è riproposta sul controsoffitto dove, come in un gioco di riflessioni, sono scavati, in corrispondenza di ogni seduta, gli apparecchi di illuminazione in gesso rea-lizzati da Martini. Le superfici verticali impiegano in modo nuovo ed inusuale per un interno un sistema di ancoraggio impiegato solitamente nella realizza-zione di pareti ventilate. L’intercapedine tra il muro perimetrale e le lastre di Pietra Basaltina montate a secco, oltre ad offrire un maggiore isolamento acusti-co e termico all’ambiente, permette di ricavare nella parte alta una fascia luminosa incassata, eventual-mente attrezzabile come zona di esposizione e pre-sentazione dei prodotti. Oltre ad aver appositamente creato un prototipo di corpo illuminate alloggiato nel sistema di parete ventilata, è stato realizzato un siste-ma computerizzato per la regolazione dell’intensità e dei cromatismi luminosi che dona una scenografica dinamicità all’ambiente. L’essenzialità dell’apparato formale e l’uso semplificato dei materiali caratteriz-zano questo nuovo spazio d’incontro GranitiFiandre, testimoniando come la diretta collaborazione con lo staff tecnico aziendale abbia permesso allo studio Ar-chea Associati di sfruttare al meglio le potenzialità espressive della ceramiche tecniche, offrendo così un piccolo contributo per l’impiego di questi mate-riali anche per interni.
