“Artisti o professionisti si può diventare, ma senza la sensibilità
che contraddistingue l’uomo nulla resta e tutto si perde nella
confusione della moda del momento.
Nulla si crea, ma tutto si trasforma.”
Gerardo Sacco
6 7Gerardo Sacco
Gerardo Sacco was born in Crotone in 1940. In his teenage years, he got a job at a small
goldsmith’s workshop and it was there that he found his true vocation in life: to craft and
model gold and silver. After learning the fundamentals of the goldsmith’s art and feeling a
growing desire to express his creativity, he went to Valenza Po to perfect his own techni-
ques and the processes of working gold. He was enriched by this experience that pushed
him, full of enthusiasm and passion, to go back to his native town to establish, in 1969, his
own craftsmanship company.
In his “laboratory-workshop”, he recuperated the craftsmanship techniques from the past,
and specialised in a production dating back to the Magna-Grecian culture and to the Medi-
terranean farming traditions.
During the same year, he produced his first sample products, for which he was awarded
with the 1st prize at the Mostra dell’Artigianato Orafo (Goldsmith’s Exhibition) in Florence
and with the Oscar dell’Artigianato (Craftsman’s Oscar) at the Exhibition of Sanremo.
These early national successes gave Gerardo Sacco a name within the goldsmith’s field
thanks to his original and unique creations, making him the most famous Calabrian
goldsmith throughout Italy and abroad, in virtue also of his particular affinity with the
world of show business and the academic world. In fact, his works have always taken prece-
dence in exhibitions which take people on a historical journey starting from the Magna-
Grecian times and ending with the present day. Other than his works having been exhibited
in the Vittoriano Complex in Rome and in Musei Vaticani (Vatican Museum), Gerardo
Sacco’s works have been exhibited at important events organised by various Italian Institu-
tes of Foreign Culture, such as in Brussels, Lisbon, Copenhagen and Madrid. His jewellery
has also exalted the glamour of various movie stars in many cinema, theatre and television
productions including Liz Taylor, Isabella Rossellini, Monica Bellucci and Elena Sofia
Ricci.

THE COMPANY STARTS WITH THE ARTIST
Gerardo Sacco’s has been a Company that for many years has been focused on the
product’s quality, innovation and design. Its new initiatives started in 2001, when Gerardo
Sacco’s three children, Antonio, Viviana and Andrea started to manage the Company. It
was immediately decided to apply the goldsmith’s creative genius to jewellery which is able
to satisfy the expectations of a larger range of customers, without losing the main features
of Gerardo Sacco jewellery: careful stylistic research combined with skilful craftsmanship.
Gerardo Sacco’s trademark is very well known and difficult to confuse. A symbol of class
and uniqueness.

FROM THE DESIGN TO THE MODEL
How an idea takes form…
The making of jewellery is based on Gerardo Sacco’s
inspiration and intuition, who runs the Company’s creative
section. It usually starts with historical-artistic research and
from the desire to create an object which stands for art, culture
and originality! The initial idea for the project is then
developed in a graphic sketch which, at first, is always done by
hand. New technology aids the artists with 2D and 3D
software that allow them to simulate the jewellery in its actual
size and proportion. Once the design has been accomplished,
the actual model is created in wax, either handmade or
prototyped. It is extraordinary to create a jewel which, besides
having a strong visual impact, keeps alive the different phases
of the craftwork which are not automated. The Company’s
most important collections have always been patented as
ornamental or utility models, highlighting the Company’s
innovative aspect.

The lost wax
The wax prototypes are handed over to the workshop, where they are mounted on a “small tree” placed in an appropriate
cylinder, which is then filled with chalk and left to set for at least two hours. Once the chalk is hardened, the whole cylinder is
placed into an oven for thirteen hours: this is what brings about the fusion of the lost wax, which leaves an imprint of the model
in the chalk. Following this, the metal (gold or silver) is melted in the furnace at a temperature of about 1020°C and the cylinder
is placed into the Vacumetal, where the melted metal is poured in to fill the empty holes left by the wax.

The Workbench
Rifinitura di un anello
Once the metal prototype is ready, the crafting takes place at the workbench, where the chalk is removed, polished and
refined to proceed to its definitive cast, through a rubber mould which is used to make more than one copy. Each creation
is assembled by hand, and for this reason one is never the same as another, making our jewellery unique and distinctive.
Threading the micro-beads one by one around a cameo or a precious gem, putting all of the pieces together to make an
original necklace is a very fascinating operation.

SILVER
Gerardo Sacco’s silver stands alone in the current market
of ornaments. They actually are inspired by the utensils of
the Mediterranean farming culture; jars, jugs, braziers and
amphoras which are redesigned and forged in silver.
Handmade with the techniques of embossing and chisel,
they maintain all their handmade peculiarities.

rare and precious sense of belonging, with which projects and Company goals are shared. The average length of time an
employee is within the Company is about fifteen years, and the staffs of the creative department in particular have been
working together for over twenty years. This is a testimony that Gerardo Sacco’s believes in the worth and value of its own
humain resources.
