Multi-Vapor lamps combine the high efficiency- up to 115 lumens-per-watt-of high intensity

discharge lamps with GE's own special blend of metal halides-scandium and sodium-for fine

color performance and low cost of light. Add the outstanding performance teatures of excellent initial

color uniformity and minimum color shift through life, and you have all the best reasons for choosing

Multi-Vapor by General Electric.

MULTI-VAPOR FOR APPLICATI·ON VERSATILITYFOR NEW INSTALLATIONS, or as replacements for existing metal halide lamps on metal halide

ballasts-a complete line of standard MUlti-Vapor with an exclusive "burn-in-any-position" feature;PLUS New High-Output 400- and 1000-watllamps for vertical operation.

FOR RETROFIT ON MERCURY BALLASTS, "l-lina PLUS" Multi-Vapor ("I-line" = Interchangeable

line), for replacement of mercury lamps on most existinq mercury ballasts. *

FOR EVEN GREATER VERSATILITY, most Multi-Vapor lamps are available with CLEAR or

PHOSPHOR-COATED bulbs: clear for applications requiring precise light control' with good color

rendition; phosphor-coated for even better color rendition and softened shadows.

·"I-line'· lamp construction and performance are similar to those for standard MultiNapor except for

special built- in features enabling them to operate on mercury ballasts.

PRECISION CONSTRUCTION-

The Key to Superior Performance

PRECISE shapi ng of blow-molded pinch - unique in GE lamps - controls

thermal stability of arc for superior initial color uniformity larnp-to-larnp,

and color stability through life.

PRECISELY applied long-life white heat-reflective end coatings - for high

lumen maintenance, stabilized arc temperature and color.

PRECISELY proportioned dose of sodium/scandium light-emitting elements

- for pleasing color rendition, consistently high efficiency andcolor uniformity.

PRECISELY wound long. life electrodes - minimum burnback for long life,

superior stability of wattage and color.

PRECISELY tuned, temperature-sensitive bi-metal switch - permits

any-position operation of universal-burning Multi-Vapor lamps. Only

one lamp type, reqardless of fixture orientation.

PRECISE phosphor coating on "-/C" lamps, uniform in density and

thickness - for improved color rendition, color uniformity through lite.

NEW! HIG,H OUTPUT MULTI-VAPOR LAMPSThe new 400-watt Hiqh-Output Multi-Vapor delivers 100 lumens-per-watt

in installations designed for vertical lamp operation on metal halide

ballasts. That's 17.5% more light than the standard 40O-watt lamp.

With this 40,000 lumen package, fewer lamps are needed to achieve desired

lighting levels ... Energ,y and installation costs are significantly reduced.

EXAMPLE In an installat ion desig, ned for 100 standard 40O-watt

Multi-Vapor lamps, the same lig,ht level could be achieved with only 85 of

the new High-Output lamps. Or in exist ing, installations, replacement with

High-Output lamps will boost maintained light levels by a11east17 .5%.

The 1DOD-watt High-Output lamps del iver 115,000 initial lu mens ininstallations designed for vertical lamp operat ion on metal halide ballasts

- 5<>/0more .Iight than the standard 1ODD-wattMu Iti-Vapor. Realizesubstantial savings on installation and operating costs in new

installations, or replace existing standard Multi-Vapor lamps and get5% higher maintained lumens.

MULTI-VAPOR OFFERSLIGHTI NG ALTERNATIVES-- -

For color-critical applications in merchandising, office and industrial lighting, floodlighting and arealighting-use Multi-Vapor instead of:

Incandescent to get comparably pleasantcolor, much higher efficiencyand longer lile; substantialreductions of energy costs andtotal cost of light.

Mercury to get equal light and bettercolorat reduced watts; substantiallylower total cost of light.

Compare the efficiencies of these lighting alternatives. When good color-with efficiency-is theneed, MULTI-VAPOR Is the answer.

400-WATT "I-line PLUS"Increases Lighting levels up to 300%Ifexisting mercury lamps have burned long enough (approx. 24,000 hours) 10 drop to half of their initial output, replacement with

400-watt "l-line PLUS" will triple the light levels immediately. Throughoullheir life, the "I-line PLUS" lamps will maintain an

average light level up to 60% highet2 than mercury lamps at no additional cost for energy.

1000-WATT "I-line PLUS"Much more light plus energy savi ngsWhen operated on mercury ballasts 1000-watt "l-line PLUS" saves approximately 85 watts on CW/CWA ballasts (savings of

$34 per-lamp) and 35 watts on lag ballasts (savings of $14 per lamp)3.

When replacing mercury lamps near the end of their 24,000 hour rated life, "I-line PLUS" will increase lighting levels as much as

440%. In addition, they will deliver an ave rage of 106% mo re light during their I ife than new mercury lamps would - at energysavings noted aboves,

(6) Fixture must be enclosed if lamp operating posit ion is t ilted more than 15' from vertical,

(7) MV400IBU/1 and MV4OOlBD/llamps are of a design that does not have the excellent color uniformity and stabl lily characterist ics 01 the

newer' ' I-line PLUS" lamps; they have more color variation f rom lamp to lamp initially, and color shift du ring life is greater. These desjgn

compromises are necessary to perrnlt operation on mercury single-lamp lag or reactor ballasts and 2-lamp lead-lag ballasts (a fsatu re

avai lable only f rom GE) , while sti ll prov id i ng over twice the average l ight ou tpu t through thei r l ife vs. mercury lamps. RECOMMENDED

ONLY for indust rial application or other areas where considerable color variat ion among lamps is acceptable. In color-critical areas, a

new installat ion of Mu lt i-Vapor lamps with metal hal ide bal lasts is recommended.
