    RESOLUTION NO. 2015-29112

    A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSIONOF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING

    AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OFSPONSORSHIPS VALUED AT $ 10, 650 FOR THE 2015ANNUAL FAMILY SERVICE . DAY, THE 2015 ANNUAL

    VETERANS DAY PARADE, AND FOR ONE MONTHLY FOOD

    TRUCK AND MUSIC FESTIVAL, AS WELL AS AN IN- KIND

    SPONSORSHIP VALUED AT $ 60, 000, MADE TO THE CITY

    FOR A ONE YEAR SUPPLY OF DOG WASTE BAGS.

    WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach hosts an Annual Family Service Day, anannua Veterans Day Parade, as wel as a monthly Food Truck and Music Festival; and

    WHEREAS, these events bring hundreds of volunteers together to engage thecommunity in proects that promoe recycling and the enhan cement of local parks, tohonor our nation s military veerans, and offer free outdoor entertainment to our citizensin North Beach; and

    WHEREAS, City staff has worked diligently to identify funding sources to off-setthe costs of producing these events and has secured partnerships through donationsand sponsorships for these events at varying levels of support from the Mami BeachMedical Group, Shake Shack, Happy Kids Childcare and School, the Children' s Trust,

    RDP Agency, and State Farm Insurance; and

    WHEREAS, the Administration recomm ends the acceptance of donations andsponsorsh ps from the above- referenced sources in the total amoun t of 10, 650 tocover the cost s o the Annual Family Service Day, the annual Veterans Day Parade,and the monthly Food Truck and Music Festival for one mont h and

    WHEREAS, each year, the Cty orders and distributes approximately 600 cases ofdog bags throughout the City for pubic use at a cost of approximately $ 60,000; and

    WHEREAS, the City will receive a full year supply of dog bags sponsored byDogbag Realty, LLC, which will have a Cty- approved advertisement for Dogbag Realtyprinted on the bags; and

    WHEREAS, the City Administration recom mend s that the City Commissionauhorize the Cty Manager, or his designee, to make any necessary reimbursementsand/ or expend tures of the aforest at ed donations, in furtherance of, an d consistent with,

    the aforest at ed event s.

    Supporting Data ( Surveys, Environmental Scan, ec.): The 2014 Community S atisfactionSurvey reported two out ofthree res dents( 67%) believed the City ofered the ri gh amoun t o cut ura acti vti es, whle 27% said there were too few. In2005, 34% o res dents thought there wer e too few cutura acti vti es, and in 2009 the figure decreased to 24%. Residents of

    North Beach ( 30%) and South Pointe( 31%) were more likely to say there were too few cultural activi ties .

    Item Summary/ Recommendation:Each year the City o Miami Beach hosts vari ous event s and pr ogr ams throughout the City. These events engage and

    educate the community and offer an opportunity to give back.

    The City wll be hosting the Annual Family Service Day on September 26, 2015. This event will b ring hundreds ofvolunteers together to engage the community in projects that promote recycling and enhance local parks, which offer freeoutdoor entertainment to our citizens. Thisevent is open to the general public at no charge. Each month the Cityalso hoststhe Food Truck and Music Festival in North Beach.

    authorizing the acceptance of these sponsorships, their appropriation to cover costs of theAnnual Family Service Day, the Veterans Day Parade, one monthly Food Truck Event and.purchase of dog bags for one year.
