VEDERE LE MIGRAZIONI: SGUARDI, IMMAGINI, IMMAGINARI
IMMAGINI I
A. M. Ahad, stazione ferroviaria, Bangladesh
Dalle immagini agli sguardi
Susan Sontag, Sulla fotografia, 2004
IMMAGINI II

IMMAGINI III
“Rather than seeing emotions as psychological dispositions, we need to consider how they work in concrete and particular ways, to mediate the relationship between the psychic and the social, and between the individual and the collective.”
Sarah Ahmed, The Cultural Politics of Emotions, 2004

The corollary discourses of “human trafficking” and “migrant smuggling” even authorize the state to gratuitously fashion itself as a paternalistic (indeed, patriarchal) “protection racket”.

SGUARDI IMPARI
LA TRAPPOLA (AN)ESTETIZZANTE
“Characterized by conditions of desperate asymmetry and elemental disparity, these torturous exchanges are marked by interruption, distortion and mutual unintelligibility between shore and sea, between here and there; between those who perish in the disaster and those who, in acting as spectators and witnesses, also achieve a form of mastery over it."

L’IMMAGINE ETERNA
“Images such as these have become long-standing cultural icons that can automatically elicit the appropriate emotional response.”

L’IMMAGINE -SHOCK
NILUFER DEMIR, Bodrum, 2015
I. LO SGUARDO OBLIQUO
“Without viewers it [the image] lacks values: it is only meaningful and significant through its relationship with us and other images. This ethical relationship requires critical ambiguity and delayed interpretation. We might first question how an image affects us”
Elizabeth Roberts, Geography and the Visual Image, 2012
FRANCESCO GIUSTI, The Rescue, 2015
II. LO SGUARDO PERTURBANTE
“We need to return to the distinction I made between the private and public uses of photography. In the private use of photography, the context of the instant recorded is preserved so that the photograph lives in an ongoing continuity. The public photograph, by contrast, is torn from its context, and becomes a dead object which, exactly because it is dead, lends itself to any arbitrary use. […] The private use of photographs can be exemplary for their public use.”
John Berger, Uses of Photography, 1978
DARIO MITIDIERI, Lost Family Portraits, 2015
III. LO SGUARDO SPETTACOLARE
“For representation to convey the human, then, representation must not only fail, but it must show its failure. There is something unrepresentable that we nevertheless seek to represent, and that paradox must be retained in the representation we give.”
Judith Butler, Precarious Life, 2004
