Selène is the Greek name for moon, a light that has intrigued humanity forthousands of years. Today, it is the symbol of the company’s mission,initiated during the sixties on Murano, a Venetian island that has been theforemost producer of home lighting and furnishings for centuries. In 40 years of business, Selène has seen both its domestic andinternational market expand considerably, so that today it is one of theworld’s most important names in home lighting. Its adroit blend of glass-making tradition and shrewd attention tofurnishing-industry developments has enabled it to create first-class,modern lighting collections.

Selène has taken this artistic legacy and used original glass to craft itsmain lighting products. The special chemical composition of Murano glassdelays solidification, consequently the glass can be worked more accuratelyand for longer, a technique which is impossible to reproduce with industrialmethods. These features make Selène products genuine items of furnishing, withmeticulous, refined fixtures in wood or ductile metal for an extra touch ofclass.

L’azienda nasce nel 1969 con il nome B.R. dall’intuizione del suo fondatore:Severino Riccato, che decide di aprire il suo laboratorio a Marcon assiemea soci e collaboratori fidati e già nel 1973 il laboratorio di Marcon diventaun vero e proprio stabilimento, con un nuovo reparto produzione. È del 1980la costruzione di un nuovo e più grande stabilimento produttivo con 2.500mq coperti. E’ di quegli anni anche il cambiamento di denominazione in“Selène illuminazione”. Gli anni ‘80 sono contraddistinti da uno sviluppoqualitativo e quantitativo cercando nuove forme e finiture. Negli anni ’90e 2000, infine, la vasta gamma consente una vigorosa espansioneall’estero promossa anche da una strategia di marketing più aggressivache include la certificazione dei prodotti per determinati mercati (adesempio il marchio UL per gli Stati Uniti).

The company was founded in 1969 with the name of B.R. by SeverinoRiccato, an astute businessman who decided together with closecolleagues and associates, to open his own workshop in Marcon; the resultswere immediately encouraging. By 1973, the Marcon workshop had becomea factory with a new production department. In 1980 a new, larger factorycovering 2,500 square meters was built and changed the company nameto “Selène”. In the 1980s, increasingly refined products were beingproduced and pioneering techniques, such as curved glass and thecagework, were introduced. In the 1990s and 2000s, a more upbeatpromotional strategy, which included attending industry fairs andcertification to the most important international standards (i.e. UL for USAand Canada), was followed.

Oggetti dienorme difficoltà realizzativa ma diindubbio contenuto estetico e di qua-lità. La lampada grande e la lam-pada media hanno al loro internoun’ulteriore vetro che funge da diffu-sore. La sospensione “Goccia” è di-sponibile anche in sfumato bianco osfumato nero.

Zeppelin, con il suo particolare con-cetto costruttivo, soddisfa le esi-genze di apparecchi di dimensione evolume notevoli (nella versionegrande si arriva a quasi 80 cm. didiametro). Il prodotto si caratterizzaper la struttura in metallo cromato a“gabbia”, completata da diffusoricolorati con effetto incamiciato cherendono il tutto come una enorme“mongolfiera” schiacciata. Il risultato finale è un apparecchio“importante” che da solo arreda eriempie l’ambiente. Un oggetto chenon deve essere visto come una sem-plice fonte luminosa ma come unvero e proprio complemento d’arredo.

Zeppelin, with its highly original de-sign concept, meets the needs ofthose who want light fittings of no-table size and volume (the large ver-sion has a diameter of almost80cm.). Its special feature is achrome-plated metal ‘cage’ with co-loured shades, with a wrapped ef-fect, reminiscent of an enormous,deflated hot-air balloon. The resultis an imposing light fitting capableof furnishing and filling a roomalone. This product is no mere lightsource, but a real element of décor.

Artide is a collection made up o f su-spensions, appliquès and light fixtu-res, wich is again proposed as aclassic of lghtning: the plate is madein crystal combined with milky-whitestripes. The glass plate process is themore simple and traditional one: theglass is poured and treated on a red-hot plate and then placed in themould and hand shaped until its finalform. TIPSilluminazione intelligente

L’illuminazione della tua casa costituisce il 10% del consumo di elettricità. Perciò, quando acquistiuna lampada, ricordati che ci sono alcuni accorgimenti capaci di farti risparmiare. Innanzitutto puoiimparare a distinguere le lampade a basso consumo dalle altre.Vediamo da vicino quali sono i diversi tipi di lampade in commercio ed i motivi per cui è consigliabilesceglierle oppure no.

Sono le più diffuse anche se hanno una durata breve (+-1000 ore) e una scarsa efficienza luminosa.Queste lampade diffondono una luce gradevole, adatta agli ambienti più raccolti, sono consigliate perstanze come la camera da letto, oppure per i locali in cui non si resta a lungo (per es. il bagno o il corridoio).

Sono più costose ma hanno una durata (+-2000 ore) decisamente superiore alle lampade comuni,mentre l’efficienza di risparmio energetico è piuttosto bassa.La loro luce bianca è molto intensa e valorizza al massimo la resa dei colori. Per questo di solito vieneutilizzata per mettere in risalto i quadri o le opere d’arte. Ricorda però che le alogene devono essereorientate su punti ben precisi, altrimenti perdono il 20% della luminosità.

Ecco un tipo di lampada a basso consumo. Questo vuol dire che consuma fino all’ 80% in meno dellelampade tradizionali. E ha una durata fino a 10/15.000 ore! Un altro vantaggio è che può sostituire senzaproblemi le lampade comuni, perché hanno lo stesso attacco. Il soggiorno, la cucina o la stanza dei ragazzisono i locali della casa più adatti per le fluorescenti compatte, perché hanno bisogno di essere illuminatiin modo prolungato e costante. Il costo, superiore rispetto alle lampade tradizionali, può sembrare troppoalto. Ma se metti a confronto il consumo e la durata, scoprirai che ci sono indubbi vantaggi.

Anche queste rientrano nella categoria a basso consumo (55-65 lm/W), consumano un quinto dellecomuni lampade a incandescenza e hanno una durata di +- 10.000 ore. Le potrai trovare disponibili inpotenza e dimensioni diverse, in forma circolare o rettilinea. Di solito si utilizzano come fonte diilluminazione nelle scale comuni o per il piano cottura della cucina. A volte però la scelta di questelampade può essere limitata dal fatto che sono molto più grandi e quindi più ingombranti di quelleclassiche. Quando scegli una lampada, non limitarti a valutare il suo aspetto estetico, ma prendisempre in considerazione la sua efficienza ed il suo rendimento luminoso.• I lampadari con molte lampade possono arredare piacevolmente una stanza, ma sei lampadeda 25 watt consumano il 50% in più rispetto ad una sola (ad incandescenza) da 100 Watt.• Ricorda che i normali interruttori possono essere sostituiti con i regolatori di intensità luminosa.Questi sono consigliati per ambienti che non richiedono il massimo dell’illuminazione.• Le lampade coperte di polvere sono meno luminose. Ricordati quindi di spolverarle (staccando lacorrente)!• Scegli sempre colori chiari per tinteggiare le pareti e ricordati di spegnere la luce quando non tiserve. Non tenerla accesa inutilmente!Evita gli errori più frequenti: cioè una quantità di luce insufficiente allo svolgimento di determinateattività come cucinare, leggere, cucire ecc. che richiedono una buona acuità visiva per cui un’ erratadistribuzione delle fonti luminose lascia fastidiose zone d’ombra e zone che provocano abbagliamento.

Cambia a seconda delle funzioni a cui è destinato l’ambiente.In ogni ambiente esistono delle attività principali che richiedono un particolare tipo di luce. In generale lasoluzione migliore, per gli usi domestici, consiste nel creare una luce soffusa in tutto l’ambiente eintervenire con fonti luminose più intense nelle zone destinate ad attività precise come pranzare, leggere,

Nel primo casobasta eliminare dal campo visivo le lampadine con sorgenti di luce concentrata: ciò non vuol dire semprecambiare la lampada o modificarne la posizione; spesso basta sostituire la lampadina chiara con unasmerigliata o una opalizzata. Nel caso della riflessione ci sono alcune considerazioni da fare: puòdipendere dal tipo di materiali e oggetti presenti in casa o dal tipo di lampada. Se ci sono superficiriflettenti si può intervenire sulla sorgente di luce e, ad esempio, sostituire una illuminazione concentratacon una diffusa. Si può anche intervenire sull’oggetto riflettente, cambiandolo di posto o modificandonel’orientamento. Non dimentichiamo inoltre che se vogliamo aumentare la luminosità e diminuire i consumidella luce artificiale le pareti degli ambienti devono essere tinteggiate con colori chiari.

• Il lampadario centrale da solo per l’illuminazione generale delle stanze non è una soluzionevantaggiosa in termini energetici.• L’illuminazione con lampada da terra o da parete in aggiunta, è migliore perché non crea zone d’ombrae dà una luce diffusa;• Per illuminare sculture, quadri, particolari oggetti, l’illuminazione più idonea è quella data dai farettiche creano un fascio di luce diretta.• Nella zona pranzo è meglio utilizzare una luce sospesa concentrata sul tavolo oppure una lampada daterra che illumini il tavolo.• Per le scrivanie sono da preferire le lampade da tavolo.• Nei bagni sono sufficienti plafoniere a soffitto o applique ad accensione separata, vicino allo specchio.• Appliques e plafoniere sono una valida soluzione anche per i corridoi e per tutti gli ambienti di transitoche non richiedono una forte illuminazione.• In cucina, oltre all’illuminazione generale, occorre prevedere luci sotto i pensili, sui piani di lavoro esul piano di cottura da utilizzare solo dove e quando servono.Al momento dell’acquisto degli apparecchi domestici è bene prestare attenzione al marchioCE (o altri marchi riconosciuti a livello europeo). Se c’è il marchio significa che l’apparecchio è prodottoin conformità con le norme di legge in materia di sicurezza.

Dove si trova il marchio CE? Il marchio può trovarsi sulla confezione, su un’etichetta applicataall’apparecchio o sulla targhetta delle caratteristiche tecniche, oppure, stampato sull’involucro. In ognicaso è un segno che dice “sicurezza”. Per quanto riguarda l’efficienza energetica delle lampadine, é adessopiù facile scegliere i prodotti migliori in quanto le informazioni disponibili sono adesso più chiare ed inevidenza. Infatti dal 2002 una direttiva dell’Unione Europea rende obbligatorio esporre anche sullelampadine un’etichetta (“etichetta energetica”) che indica l’efficienza energetica dei vari tipi di lampade.

The lighting of your home represents 10% of electricity consumption.So when buying a lamp, please remember that there are some expedients in order to make you savemoney. First of all you can learn to distinguish the low consumption lamps from the others. Let's look closely what are the different types of lamps on the market and the reasons why it is advisableto choose them.

They are popular even if they have a short duration (+ -1000 hours) and a low luminous efficiency. These lamps spread a pleasing and suitable light and they are recommended for rooms like the bedroom,or for places in which you don’t stay for a long time (eg. the bathroom or the hallway).

They are more expensive but have a duration (+ -2000 hours) significantly higher than the commonlamps, while the energy saving efficiency is quite low. The white light is very intense and brings out the maximum colour rendering. For this reason is usuallyused to highlight paintings or works of art. But remember that the halogen has to be aimed at very spe-cific points, otherwise they lose 20% of brightness.

This is a kind of lamp with low consumption. This means that they consume up to the 80% less of a tra-ditional lamp. It lasts up to 10/15.000 hours! Another advantage is that it can easily replace lampscommon, because they have the same socket. The living room, kitchen or kids' rooms are the rooms ofthe house more suitable for compact fluorescent, because they need to be constantly and prolonged enli-ghtened. The cost, compared to the traditional lamps, it may seem too high. But if you make a compari-son, the consumption and the duration, you will find that there are undoubted advantages.

Again, these lamps are within the low category consumption (55-65 lm / W), they use a fifth of commonincandescent bulbs and last + - 10,000 hours. You can find them in different power and sizes, in circu-lar or straight shape. Usually they are used as a source of lighting in the stairs or for the kitchen stove.Sometimes, however, the choice of these lamps may be limited by the fact that they are much larger andmore bulky than the classic ones. When choosing a lamp, you don’t have always to assess its appea-rance, but remember the importance of its efficiency and its luminousity. • The chandeliers with many lamps can nicely decorate a room, but six 25 watt lamps consume 50%more than one (incandescent) 100 watt. • Remember that standard switches can be replaced with the intensity light regulators. These are recommended for environments that do not require the maximum illumination. • The lamps which are dust covered are less bright. Remember to brush them (turning the current off)! • Choose light colours to paint the walls of your house and remember to turn off the light when you donot need it. Do not keep it turned on unnecessarily! Avoid the most frequent mistakes: an insufficient amount of light when you cook, read, sew etc.. that re-quire good visual acuity so that a 'wrong distribution of light sources leave gray and glare areas.

Howto determine the amount of light needed in a room? We cannot give a single answer to this question. Itchanges according to the use of the environment. In general, the best solutionfor domestic use, is to create a soft light throughout the environment and act with more intense lightsources in areas intended for specific activities such as dining, reading, studying. It is also importantthat the lights do not dazzle either directly or by reflection. In the first case, simply remove from the fieldof vision bulbs with concentrated sources of light: this doesn’t mean to change the lamp or its position,very often it is enough to replace the clear bulb with a frosted one. some considerations to do: it may depend on the type of materials and items that are in the house or onthe type of lamp. If there are reflective surfaces you can intervene on the light source and, for example,replace a lamp with a concentrated light with one that diffuses light. You can also intervene on the re-flective object, changing its position or its orientation. Do not forget also that if we want to increase thebrightness and decrease the consumption of artificial light the walls of the rooms should be paintedwith light colours.

• The central chandelier alone for the lighting of the rooms is not a good solution in terms of energy saving.• The illumination with a floor lamp and a wall bracket in addition, it is better because it does not createshadows and gives a diffused light; • In order to illuminate the sculptures, paintings, special items, the spotlight is the most appropriatebecause they create a beam of light. • For the dining area is better to use a suspension focused on a table or a floor lamp that illuminatesthe table. • For the desks table lamps are preferred. • For bathrooms ceiling lights or wall brackets with separate ignition, near the mirror. • Appliques and ceiling lamps are a good solution for corridors and other transit environments that donot require a strong lighting. • The kitchen, besides the general illumination, should be provided with lights under the hangings, thework plans and the hob to be used only where and when needed. At the time of purchase of household goods it is better to pay attention to the mark EC (or other trade-marks recognized at European level). If there is a trade mark means that the device is manufactured inaccordance with the law on security.

Where is the EC quality mark? The quality mark may be on the packaging, on a label applied on the de-vice or on the nameplate of the technical features, or printed the packaging. In any case it is a sign thatsays "security". Regarding energy efficiency, it is now easier to choose the best products because the in-formation available is now more clear and obvious. In fact by 2002 a European Union directive makes itmandatory to exhibit even a label on the lamps ("energy label") which indicates the energy efficiency ofvarious types of lamps.
