CallforBids2019Art.1–INSTITUTIONOFTHEAWARDTheAwardforSustainableArchitecturewasconceivedandpromotedin2003byFassaSrl,,ownerofthe“FassaBortolo”brand,andtheUniversityofFerraraDepartmentofArchitecture,incelebrationofadecadeofactivity;itwascreatedforthe purpose of rewarding and making known to the broad public architecture that is able to interact with theenvironmentinabalancedway,designedforhumanneedsandabletosatisfythenecessitiesofourgenerationwithoutcompromising,throughindiscriminateconsumptionofresourcesandtheresultingpollution,thoseoffuturegenerations.The Award is open to the participation of projects for new buildings, the re-qualification and/or extension of existingbuildings, urban and landscape design, or any other design field that assumes particular significance in terms ofsustainability.Art.2–CONDITIONSFORPARTICIPATIONApplications for the Award may be submitted by individual professionals or architectural or engineering firms; eachindividualcandidateorgroupmayparticipatewithasinglerealizedproject.Theworkmusthavebeencarriedoutandcompletedwithinthepast5years.ProfessorsteachingduringthecurrentAcademicYearat theUniversityofFerraraDepartmentofArchitecturemaynotparticipate;worksthathavealreadybeensubmittedfortheawardinthepastwillnotbeaccepted.Forparticipation intheAward, theuseofconstructionmaterialsmanufacturedbythe initiative’ssponsor, theFassaBortolocompany,isabsolutelynotnecessaryorbinding.Art.3–THEAWARDTheAwardisbiennial.Threeprizes,consistingofGoldandSilverMedals,atthediscretionofthepanelof judges,willbeawardedtoprojectsdeemedtobethemostsignificant.Thepanelofjudges,iftheyseefit,mayidentifyashortlistandotherworksdeservingofHonourableMention.Art.4–THEFASSABORTOLOSPECIALAWARDTheFassaBortoloSpecialAwardrepresentsaseparatesectionoftheInternationalAwardforSustainableArchitecture,anexclusiveacknowledgmentreservedforthosewhowereabletousethesolutionsofferedbytheFassaBartoloIntegratedSystem–thatis,themainConstructionSystemsandrelatedmaterials–inrespectoftheprinciplesofsustainabilityandarchitecturalquality.It will be possible to submit a project to both the Fassa Bortolo Special Award and themain section of the award,presentingtherelativedocumentation(seeArt.6,para.e).Theprizemoneyforthespecialsection’swinningprojectis€3,000.00Art.5–HOWTOREGISTERToparticipate in the competition, fill out the electronic application form foundonline atwww.premioarchitettura.it),andsubmititby20/12/2018.Art.6–DOCUMENTSTOSUBMITToparticipateintheselectionbytheInternationalPanelofjudges,itisnecessarytosubmit,exclusivelyindigitalform,3typesofdocument:

● twoA1-formatpanels(asperthetemplatedownloadablefromtheAwardsite)containingallinformationandthedatasheetslistedbelow;

● a 100x70 panel (as per the downloadable template on the Award website), where the two panels of thepreviousitemaretobeinserted,adaptingthem;

● alltheindividualfilesusedtocreatethetwoA1panels.Alltextinsidethepanels,captionsincluded,mustbeexclusivelyinEnglish.Theminimumfontsizemustbeequalto11pt(captionsincluded)topermitacorrectreadingbytheinternationalpanelofjudges,underpenaltyofexclusionfromthecompetition.The legibilityof thepanel contents (drawings,diagrams, text, captions,etc.)mustbeguaranteed foranyA3 formatprintoutsaswell(candidatesareencouragedtocarryoutteststoensuretheprintlegibilityatthisscale).ThedocumentsanddrawingsrequiredforparticipationshouldbesentdigitallytotheOrganizationalCoordinator(tothe email premioarchitettura@unife.it) and they will be divided up into various files identified by alphabeticallyorderedletters,asshownbelow,andcollectedunderaparentfileidentifiedbythecandidate’ssurname-nameorthearchitecturalfirm:Filea)Adocument (*.doc format)writtenonly inEnglish,drawnupby fillingoutthe formthatcanbedownloadedfromtheawardwebsite(www.premioarchitettura.it).Itshouldinclude:

− informationaboutthecompletedproject(designers,consultants,client,projecttimeline).

− a short resumé,no longer than1500 characters, spaces included, andaphotoof the candidateor thedesignteam(in*.jpgformat)

− thegeographicandclimatedatatypicaloftheconstructionlocationandabriefdescriptionofthemicroclimatic

conditions:latitude,longitude,altitude,geographicNorth,andpredominantwinddirection,etc.

− an overview and technical description of the project, in 3000 characters or less (spaces included), with aparticular focusonthetechnicalspecificationsofthematerialsusedanddiscussionofthebioclimatic featuresand systems engineering. The report should be concise, describing only what is strictly necessary forunderstandingtheproject.

All the designers awarded a medal will be hosted by the awarding authority on the occasion of the public Awardsceremony,tobeheld(onadateyettobeestablished)inFerrara,attheUniversityofFerraraDepartmentofArchitectureinPalazzoTassoni.Art.10–PUBLICATIONOFTHEAWARD-WINNINGWORKSTheprize-winningprojectsalongwiththosedeemedworthyofmentionwillbepublishedinabookletdedicatedtothiseditionoftheAward;thedescriptionsanddrawingsaccompanyingthem,togetherwiththeprojects intheprospectiveshortlist,willalsobeavailabletoseeontheAwardwebsiteArt.11–PARTICIPATIONTERMSWith the submission of the documentation required for admission to the competition, the participants in thecompetition:

–declareundertheirownresponsibilitytobetheexclusiveownersofthecopyrighttotheprojectspresented;

–acceptandabidebyallthenormsestablishedbythiscallforbids.

–agreethatthematerialssubmittedwillnotbereturned;

– authorize theUniversity of Ferrara Department of Architecture and Fassa Srl, sponsors of the Award, to utilize andpublishthedocumentslistedinArt.6,inpartorinfull,inhardorsoftcopy,forwhateverpurpose,evenindependentlyofthe Award considered in this bid, as well as for promotional and advertising purposes, as long as the source of thematerialiscited.

Itisexpresslyunderstoodthatnocompensationforsuchauthorizationisprovided,and,therefore,thattheparticipantswillhavenothingtoclaimforanyreason,includingcopyrights,aswellasforanyusethattheUniversityofFerraraand/orFassa Srl will be able to make of the above-mentioned documentation; the participants promise to indemnify theUniversityofFerrara,DepartmentofArchitectureagainstalldisputes,claims,orjudgmentsregardingthecontentsoftheprojectsutilizedanddisseminatedbymeansofthepublicationsindicatedinthepreviousparagraph.

TheAwardorganizersreservetherighttomakeanyvariationdeemednecessaryforthebestoutcome,includingrequestsforadditionalmaterials.
