Risperidone

Metabolic side effects: case reportA 28-year-old man developed metabolic side effects during

treatment with risperidone. The man, who had Kallman’ssyndrome, also had a diagnosis of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. He was on testosterone and apsychostimulant compound. He was referred for re-evaluationof psychiatric symptoms after developing acute paranoidpsychosis. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia of theparanoid type. He started receiving risperidone 3mg daily[route not stated]. Due to metabolic side effects [duration oftreatment to reaction onset and outcome not stated], this waslater replaced with aripiprazole.

Author comment: "[R]isperidone was prescribed at a dailydose of 3mg but, because of unwanted metabolic side effectsand insufficient effect on negative symptoms, this was laterreplaced by 15mg aripiprazole per day."Verhoeven WMA, et al.
