THE PRECIOUS BLOOD FAMILY2011 CALENDAR

“Questo è il giorno fatto dal Signore: rallegriamoci ed esultiamo in esso.” (Salmo 118:24)

Il calendario liturgico, il calendario della Chiesa, è un mezzo di insegnamento durante tutto l’anno. I giorni ed i mesi ci presentano gli insegnamenti del Vangelo nella sua pienezza – dalle feste e preannunzi del Vecchio Testamento all’adempimento nella risurrezione di Gesù. Giorno per giorno, nelle stagioni dell’anno liturgico, siamo ispirati dalla Parola di Dio e l’esempio di coloro che hanno seguito il sentiero della santità.

“L’Anno Liturgico” determina il calendario della Chiesa. Consiste del ciclo dei tempi liturgici con solennità, feste, memoriali e commemorazioni di Santi e letture dalla Bibbia a ciclo. (Per il 2011 le letture della Domenica saranno dell’Anno A; nei giorni feriali – Anno I).

Questo calendario è il 5to numero della rivista Famiglia del Prezioso Sangue del 2010. La Famiglia del Prezioso Sangue, nel suo 17mo anno di stampa, è una rivista pubblicata in Inglese ed Italiano per gli Stati Uniti, il Canada e 22 nazioni estero. The liturgical calendar, the calendar of the Church, is a year-long teaching moment. The days and months unfold to teach the Gospel in its fullness – from the feasts and foreshadowing of the Old Testament to the culmination in Jesus’ resurrection. Day by day we are inspired by the Word of God and the example of those who followed the path to sainthood.

The “liturgical year” denotes when Feasts, Memorials, Commemorations, and Solemnities are to be observed and which portions of Scripture are to be read (For 2011 Sunday readings - Year A; weekday readings - Year I).

This calendar is the 5th issue of The Precious Blood Family magazine for 2010. The Precious Blood Family, in its 17th year of publication, is a bilingual magazine (Italian and English) circulated in the US, Canada and 22 foreign countries. For subscription information or extra copies of this calendar issue, see the page after the month of December.

THE CALENDAR

The distinct liturgical colors that mark the different seasons and observances are indicated on the dates in each month: Green for Ordinary Time; White/Gold for the seasons of Easter and Christmas, feasts of Our Lord, Mary, angels, and saints who are not martyrs; Red for Pentecost, martyrs, and feasts of the apostles and evangelists; Purple/Violet for Advent and Lent.

“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)

Il calendario del 2011 presenta l’arte del vivere la Spiritualità del Prezioso Sangue. Il sentiero che suggeriamo per incorporare tale Spiritualità sono le Opere di

Misericordia Corporali e Spirituali. Infatti, la fede viva, quella che “opera la carità,” fluisce dalla nostra unione con il sangue di Cristo.1

Nutrire, accogliere, curare, consolare, stimolare, perdonare confortare i nostri fratelli e sorelle ci sfida a vivere davvero come Gesù. Le opere di misericordia

non sono suggerimenti ma essenziali per una vita Cristiana santa e caritatevole.

I Missionari del Preziosissimo Sangue in tutto il mondo stanno approfondendo il senso di “missione” a differenti livelli, mentre la chiesa continua a predicare,

servire e testimoniare al Vangelo nel suo lavoro pastorale e nel suo impegno a trasformare la società e la cultura.2

L’impegno ad una ‘nuova evangelizzazione” iniziato e spinto da Giovanni Paolo II e condiviso da Benedetto XVI richiede più che della trasmissione del Vangelo ed insegnamenti dottrinali. Evangelizzare significa “proclamare

Gesù Cristo a parole ed a fatti, cioè, diventare strumento della sua presenza e del suo operare nel mondo.”3 Uno dei modi per implementare tale invito è l’essere attivo nel promuovere una Cultura della Vita, tenendo presente che “per la trasmissione del Vangelo, la parola e la testimonianza di vita vanno assieme.”4 “Evangelizzare significa insegnare l’arte del vivere. Quest’arte può essere comunicata solo da uno che ha vita – colui che personifica il Vangelo.”5

The art of living Precious Blood Spirituality is the focus of our calendar for 2011. The path we suggest to embody this spirituality is the Spiritual and Corporal

Works of Mercy. In fact, the living faith that “works with charity”1 flows from our oneness in the blood of Christ.

To nourish, welcome, heal, console, inspire, forgive and comfort our brothers and sisters challenges us to truly live as Jesus did. The works of mercy are not

optional but are absolutely essential to living the Christian life of holiness and goodness.

The Missionaries of the Precious Blood all over the world are revisiting the meaning of “mission” at various levels, while the church continues to preach,

serve and witness to the Gospel in its pastoral work and in its efforts to transform society and culture.2

The commitment to the “new evangelization” initiated and promoted by John Paul II and shared by Benedict XVI requires more than passing on the Gospel and teaching doctrine. To evangelize means “to proclaim Jesus Christ

by one’s words and actions, that is, to make oneself an instrument of his presence and action in the world.”3 One way to implement this call is to be actively engaged in efforts to promote a Culture of Life, remembering that “to transmit the Gospel, word and witness of life go together.”4 “To evangelize means to teach the art of living. This art can only be communicated by one who has life – he who is the Gospel personified.”5

John Merlini, the third Moderator General of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, was captivated

by the zeal of St. Gaspar, whom John XXIII called “the greatest apostle of the Precious Blood.” Merlini was attracted by Precious Blood spirituality as the means of his own sanctification and the tool of his ministry. His quotes throughout the calendar point to him as a model of patience, order, obedience and determination, virtues we all need and should seek through his intercession. We ask you to join us in praying for the cause of his sainthood and notify us of miracles received from God through his intercession at [email protected].

MASS.ASSOCIATIONThe church enjoins on all the faithful the charitable obligation

to pray for the living and the dead. Giovanni Merlini, terzo moderatore Generale dei Missionari del Preziosissimo Sangue, fu conquistato

dallo zelo di San Gaspare, che Giovanni XXIII chiamò “Il più grande apostolo del Sangue di Cristo.” Merlini fu attratto dalla spiritualità del Sangue Prezioso, mezzo della sua santificazione e strumento del suo ministero.
