Il Meeting incontro all’esigenzadi cambiamento e di ripresa dell’uomo

Il XXXI Meeting per l’amicizia fra i popoli si è chiuso come segno tangibile e do-cumentazione della sfida che il Santo Padre ha lanciato: “Testimoniate nel nostro tempo che le grandi cose a cui anela il cuore umano si trovano in Dio”. Il titolo “Quella natura che ci spinge a desiderare cose grandi è il cuore” è di-ventata per tutti ipotesi reale di confronto da ogni punto di vista: ipotesi per i 3193 volontari provenienti da tutta Italia e da oltre 20 paesi stranieri, che anche quest’anno, come ormai si ripete da oltre 30 anni, hanno offerto il loro lavoro per la costruzione di un’opera in cui l’ideale si è incarnato; un’ipotesi di sguardo per le quasi 800.000 presenze, 29 le nazionalità presenti, che si sono confrontate con oltre 130 incontri, 8 mostre, 35 spettacoli. Tantissimi ospiti, di ogni fede, cultura, provenienza; è stato sorprendente vedere come per tutti il tema del Meeting sia stato il contenuto prevalente dei loro inter-venti; non abbiamo ascoltato voli pindarici o teorie astratte, ma una reale lettura della propria esperienza alla luce del titolo. La grande testimonianza personale del presidente d’Irlanda McAleese, il con-fronto del ministro Frattini con leader di paesi in cui la libertà religiosa viene regolarmente limitata, la presenza del presidente Barroso, la figura più rappre-sentativa dell’Unione Europea, hanno sottolineato la vocazione internazionale del Meeting. Nella settimana riminese si è discusso dell’uomo e del suo desiderio infinito: il cristianesimo, come ha detto Stefano Alberto nel suo intervento, è una risposta “tanto impossibile a immaginarsi prima che accadesse come avveni-mento storico, quanto supremamente conveniente nel suo libero e totalmente gratuito manifestarsi”, e che risponde alle sfide della modernità perché, come recita l’intervento del cardinale Scola “il desiderio integrale dell’uomo, cioè il suo cuore, incontra piena soddisfazione”. E ancora il grande avvenimento che è stato l’abbraccio tra il cardinale Erdö e il metropolita Filaret, forse il più importante in-contro ecumenico degli ultimi anni. Come accade tipicamente al Meeting uomini e culture diverse si incontrano: la presentazione de “Il Senso Religioso” di don Giussani in cinese, l’incontro tra il monaco buddista Habukawa, il cardinale Tau-ran e l’imam Oubrou, il dialogo tra il giurista ebreo Weiler e Giuliano Amato, sono stati momenti in cui si è scoperto come il cuore dell’uomo è il punto di inizio del dialogo e come la religione può essere fattore di pace e non di violenza.

Le mostre (quattro di queste realizzate all’estero), visitate da migliaia e migliaia di persone, hanno svolto come sempre un ruolo fondamentale nella documenta-zione del desiderio di cose grandi; tra queste la mostra sulla crisi, un tema su cui si sono confrontati in tanti: Bonanni, Passera, Geronzi, Marcegaglia, Gotti Tede-schi, De Bortoli, Marchionne. Molti dei protagonisti del mondo economico hanno dimostrato una sincera curiosità per quello che accade al Meeting, per l’espe-rienza da cui nasce e che la sostiene, documentata nello spazio centrale della fiera dedicato alla figura di don Giussani nel quinto anniversario dalla scomparsa.

Anche quest’anno particolarmente seguiti gli incontri delle “testimonianze”: Rose e i suoi ragazzi africani, la vedova Coletta e Maria Teresa Landi, Mireille Yoga dal Camerun e Fiammetta da Haiti, padre Monacelli e l’indiano David Frank, hanno raccontato come nessun potere, nessuna circostanza, possano fermare il desiderio di ogni uomo, la cui natura infinita, propria dell’uomo di ogni tempo, ha calcato il palcoscenico del Meeting con il Caligola di Camus interpretato da Stefano Pesce e con la lettura dei canti di Leopardi di Giancarlo Giannini. E an-cora altri personaggi come l’arcivescovo Martin, i giornalisti McGurn e Pansa, gli scienziati Moro, Nelson e Ferrari, i giuristi Snead e Kretzmer.

Infine la politica con Sacconi, Tremonti, Alfano, Matteoli, Carfagna, Calderoli, Maroni, Galan, Luciano Violante. Non una passerella estranea alla realtà del Me-eting: ministri e politici hanno affrontato attese e domande della gente, parlando dei temi e delle sfide del prossimo futuro, lasciando da parte i battibecchi da talk show. Sono state tantissime le personalità del mondo ecclesiastico, politico, economico e culturale che sono arrivate in veste di ospiti, vivendo il Meeting, visitando le mostre, assistendo agli spettacoli, partecipando agli incontri, osser-vando quello che è accaduto.

Il Meeting ha avuto successo perché ha incontrato l’esigenza di ritrovare uno sguardo positivo verso la realtà ed è stato una proposta per il bisogno di cambia-mento e di ripresa della vita sociale; è stata l’occasione per verificare che, a partire da un punto inossidabile che rilancia l’umano, ci sono persone e realtà di uomini che mettono l’uomo nelle condizioni di attraversare sicuro la continua tempesta della vita, senza essere in balia delle circostanze.

Per questo il titolo del Meeting 2011 che si svolgerà dal 21 al 27 agosto sarà: “E l’esistenza diventa una immensa certezza”.

The Meeting toward man’s need for change and recovery

The XXXI Meeting for Friendship among People concluded as a tangible sign and proof of the challenge the Holy Father launched: “Witness to our time that the great things the human heart desires are found in God.” The title “That nature which pushes us to desire great things is the Heart” has be-come for all an hypothesis for comparison from every point of view: hypothesis for the 3,139 volunteers coming from all over Italy and from over 20 foreign countries, who even this year, like in the least 30 years, have offered their labor for the con-struction of a work in which the ideal has become incarnate; an hypothesis of gaze for the nearly 800,000 people from 29 countries present at the event who were confronted with over 130 meetings, 8 exhibits, 35 shows. There were many guests of every faith, culture, origin; it was surprising to see how for everyone the theme of the Meeting was the prevalent topic of their interventions; we have not listened to abstract theories, but to a real reading of our existence in the light of the title.

The great personal witness of President McAleese of Ireland, the confrontation of minister Frattini with leaders of countries in which religious freedom is regularly limited, the presence of president Barroso, the most representative figure in the European Union, have underlined the international vocation of the Meeting. In the course of the Riminese week man and his desire for the infinite have been discussed: Christianity, as Stefano Alberto said in his talk, is one answer “as impossible to imagine before the historical event happened as it is supremely convenient in its free and totally gratuitous manifestation,” and one that respon-ds to the challenges of modernity because, as the intervention of Cardinal Scola recites, “the integral (whole) desire of man, that is his heart, encounters full sati-sfaction.” Another great event was the embrace between Cardinal Erdö and the Metropolitan Filaret, perhaps one of the most important ecumenical encounters of the last years. As it typically happens at the Meeting, different men and cultu-res meet: the presentation of the Father Giussani’s “Religious Sense” in Chinese, the encounter between the Buddhist monk Habukawa, Cardinal Tauran, and Imam Oubrou, the dialogue between the Jewish jurist Weiler and Giuliano Ama-to, have all been moments during which it has been discovered how the heart of man is the starting point for the beginning of dialogue and how religion can be an instrument of peace and not of violence.

The exhibits (four of which were created abroad), visited by thousands and thou-sands of people, have had, as always, a fundamental role in documenting the desire for great things; among these, was the exhibit on the economic crisis, a theme many have discussed: Bonanni, Passera, Geronzi, Marcegaglia, Gotti Te-deschi, De Bortoli, Marchionne. Many of the protagonists of the economic world have demonstrated a sincere curiosity for what happens at the Meeting, for the experience from which it generates and that sustains it as it was documented in the central area of the fiera dedicated to the figure of Father Giussani on the fifth of anniversary of his death. As in the past, this year’s encounters with personal “witnesses” have been well attended: Rose and her boys, the Coletta widow and Maria Teresa Landi, Mireille Yoga from Camerun and Fiammetta from Haiti, Father Monacelli and the Ameri-can Indian David Frank, have told how no power, no circumstances can stop the desire of each man, whose infinite nature, characteristic of the man of each time, has taken the stage of the Meeting with the Caligula by Camus performed by Stefano Pesce and with the reading of Leopardi’s poems by Giancarlo Giannini. Among other guests were Archbishop Martin, journalists McGurn and Pansa, scientists Moro, Nelson and Ferrari, and the jurors Snead and Kretzmer. Finally, there was politics with Sacconi, Tremonti, Alfano, Matteoli, Carfagna, Calderoli, Maroni, Galan, Luciano Violante. These are not foreigners to the reality of the Meeting: ministers and politicians have faced people’s long waits and questions, speaking of themes and the challenges of the near future, leaving behind the squabbles typical of a talk show. Many were the personalities of the ecclesial, political, economic, and cultural world that have arrived as visitors and have lived the Meeting, visited the exhibits, attended the shows, took part in the meetings, and observed everything that happened.

The Meeting was a success because it has encountered the need to rediscover a positive gaze toward reality and was a proposal to the need for change and reprise of the social life; it was the occasion to verify that, starting from a firm point that revives the human, there are people and realities of men who put man in the condition of facing the storms of life with certainty, without being at the mercy of circumstances.

For this reason, the title of the 2011 Meeting that will take place from August 21 to August 27 will be “And existence becomes an immense certainty”.
