‘30sJune 1939 Giuseppe Furrer, a brilliant manager, resigned from Montecatini SPA,fulfilling the dream of setting up his own company. Furrer SPA came to life at no 2 viacovetta in Carrara, penetrating the market of stone excavation and production.

‘50sGiuseppe Furrer challenged himself with a wide variety of preciousstones from all over the world also acquiring several quarries. Thisstrategy, blended with a strong dedication and customer care, quicklymade Furrer SPA a benchmark in the international stone industry.

‘60sFranz Furrer joined the company. Giuseppe’s only son had an eclectic personalitywith a great passion for art and boating. Franz was a renowned artist and hisworks can still be found in several art galleries.

‘90sUnder the new management,Furrer knew a significantgrowth. A new quarry ofBianco Carrara Campaniliwas acquired in addition tothe prestigious quarry ofStatuario Calocara, thecompany was awardedprojects of internationalinterest such as Kremlin inMoscow and Bank of ChinaHeadquarters in Beijing andseveral investments weremade to improve and expandthe production plant.

‘70sIn 1976 the Furrer Familydecided to sell thecompany also due toFranz’s growing artisticsuccess and commitment.The buyer was PartusolaSPA, a listed firm whichbelonged to Rotshschildgroup and which waslooking for a ‘gem’ toenter the marble sector.

‘80sThe strength and importance of the brand kept growing and Furrer wasconsecrated as one of the best stone companies being awarded prestigiousprojects such as Carlo Felice Theatre in Genova. However, PertusolaManagement was only a transition as the modern Furrer only started underthe capable management of Gino Mazzi, a manager of the oil businesswho decided to challenge himself with the stone industry.

‘00sFurrer began the new millennium signing valuable projects by big namessuch as Montecampione Casino, designed by Mario Botta and started to playa major role in the architectural and design scene. One of the most significantcollaboration was established with Marc Newson to produce his iconicand disruptive design pieces which combined stone, creativity andnew technologies.

‘10sFollowing the evolving needs of the market, the newarchitectural and designconcepts and with the help of the latest technologies major investments havebeen made. Furrer doubled the surface reaching 48.000 m2 and the recentacquisition of a new quarry of Bianco Carrara Montemaggiore makes it one of thestrongest groups in the stone industry. In March 2018 Furrer was listed amongthe 500 best Italian companies by Corriere della Sera and Italy Post.

Context: Odeon Tower project, MontecarloTask: Build a 14 meters high elliptical cylinder with backlit marble, without lateral containment Problems: 1. Choosing a suitable stone2. How to perfectly backlight the stone3. How to anchor the stone, avoiding backlit shadows Solution:The selected stone was onyx which made all the job a real challenge, after perfect 3D software analysis the material was treated with the highest level of attention to guarantee continuity in terms of shape. Any issue related to the light diffusion was solved thanks to a sophisticated laser treatment, that guaranteed a perfect propagation on the entire surfaces. Last but not least, the skeleton of the elliptical cylinder. This problem was solved thanks to the creation of a complex iron structure, completely engineered in-house.

Context: Marc Newson creationsTask: Build a design icon, the Voronoi ShelfProblem: 1. Bringing a modern design icon to life

from a solid block of white carrara, a single piece 3 meters long, 2 meters high and 60 centimetres wide.

Solution:This work was feasible by employing the best-in-class competencies and equipment available. Know-how blended with perfect team-collaboration and prime quality stone allowed to immediately satisfy even one of the most infl uencing designers all around the world.

A JUST-IN-TIME YACHT

Context: Yacht refi tting in a tier-one Italian shipyard Task: Replace the previous stone supplier and ultimate the workProblems:1. Quickly source the specifi ed stones2. Replace all the yacht shower trays because of structural issues3. Fix a water loss in the master suite bath tub4. Deadline: 2 weeks Solution:Thanks to Furrer supply chain it was possible to fi nd a stone that perfectly matched with the existing ones, saving the owner’s money and time. All the shower trays were rebuilt in the proper way, making them removable and resistant.The reason behind the water loss was wrong manufacturing, so thanks to Furrer’s know how the problem was fi xed without damaging or modifying the existing stone. All the problems were solved within the agreed terms and the yacht was delivered on time.
