    #I&IE are disco1ered sitting and lying in picturesque attitudes

    around a large +ire- which is lighted in the centre o+ the stage2

    some are eating and drin$ing- others smo$ing. FRA)CA/ and an old

    #ipsy with a grey beard are playing dice on a tree0trun$. &ICORI)

    is going gaily +rom one person to another- but is watching

    MIRETTE- who is sitting pensi1ely on the grassy hilloc$ at the

    +oot o+ a large tree R. %ERT3CCIO is 4ust +inishing a story he is

    telling.

    game$eeper- with his master. And my gun is down below5
