Ciao e buona continuazione delle Feste Natalizie. L'ultima built, la 002 sostanzialmente non differisce dalla precedente se non per una correzione nel conteggio delle Contee americane per il Diploma omonimo. Come saprete, le eQSL sono valide per i diplomi gestiti dalla rivista CQ, e l'USA Counties Award è uno di questi. Però le conferme non sono valide SEMPRE e COMUNQUE: solamente quelle degli OM che sono AG, ovvero Authenticity Guaranteed sono valide. Per essere AG bisogna aver inviato uno scan della propria licenza a eQSL, come si fa anche con LoTW. C'è ovviamente una lista di Stazioni AG che aggiorno abbastanza regolarmente e BBLogger si basa su questa lista per determinare se una conferma è valida o meno per i diplomi CQ. Il problema della release precedente era che tra le varie modifiche si era parzialmente perso il controllo dello status di AG e quindi venivano due dati diversi tra "Confermate" e "Da Convalidare": il dato Confermate era corretto e non teneva conto di conferme di Contee fatte da corrispondenti non-AG, mentre sia il dato "Da Convalidare" che il foglio Excel/Calc prodotto le comprendeva. Ora Giorgio ha sistemato tutto e la built 002 è regolarmente presente sul sito per il download di tutti gli utenti. Quindi attenzione quando fate il conteggio delle Contee Americane: se selezionerete "eQSL only" oppure "Paper QSL + eQSL" potreste avere una o più situazioni di contea non confermata (rosso) nonostante il relativo QSO abbia il fondo azzurro (confermato via eQSL) e nonostante nel foglio Excel/Calc prodotto vi sia un "E", che sta per confermato via eQSL, nell'ultima colonna. Va da sè che se in un futuro questo OM diventerà AG, allora al successivo conteggio la sua Contea sarà regolarmente verde e disponibile per l'accredito. Due parole per l'Help. E' vero, è un po' datato ed incompleto, me ne rendo conto. Dovrei aggiornarlo all'ultima versione e lo farò senz'altro non appena avrò un po' di tempo, dato che non è una cosa che si può liquidare in 5 minuti. Il fatto che sia stringato è dovuto anche al motivo che la relativa pagina è dotata di traduttore Google e quindi bisogna scrivere periodi semplici e non troppo articolati in quanto il traduttore Google come sapete è tutt'altro che perfetto e a volte le traduzioni sono veramente bizzarre. Quanto agli aggiornamenti automatici, sono previsti per i database e le mappe. Lo avevamo previsto anche per le versioni (ma non per le diverse build delle stessa versione), però poi vi sono state delle lamentele e pertanto abbiamo lasciato l'aggiornamento da una versione all'altra in manuale e a discrezione dell'utente. Noi siamo convinti che ogni aggiornamento apporti delle migliorie al programma comunque ognuno è libero di fare quel che crede, e vi assicuro che c'è gente che va ancora con la 1015. Come si fa l'aggiornamento? Lo ripetiamo ancora per i nuovi arrivati: scaricate il file ZIP e poi decomprimetelo nella cartella dove avete BBLogger, sovrascrivendo il file EXE presente. Per precauzione prima di questa operazione fate una copia del vecchio eseguibile e tenetela da parte, casomai ci fosse qualche problema con la nuova versione/build. Non decomprimetela sul Desktop perché da lì non parte e genera un errore: va messa nella cartella di BBLogger. Ricordate sempre di far partire il programma con i privilegi di amministratore (click con tasto destro sull'icona di BBL) e poi "Esegui come amministratore" e per coloro che trovassero problemi con S.O. Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, fatelo partire in modalità compatibilità Windows XP. Sempre click col tasto destro sull'icona, poi Proprietà poi Compatibilità, poi Esegui in modalità Compatibilità con Windows XP (Service Pack 2 o 3).

Bene, questo è tutto per il momento. Come ho già scritto, la nuova versione vedrà la luce fra parecchi mesi, perché vi sono diverse cose che bollono in pentola e devono essere sviluppate, ma se dovessero esserci problemini come questo usciremo con delle build per correggerli. Non mi resta che salutarvi anche a nome di Giorgio IK2VIW, il Deus ex Machina di BBLogger, di Cristiano, IW2NZX, la new entry che ci sta dando concretamente una mano nello sviluppo del software, e di Lele IK2RGT che sta preparando ulteriori tutorial sull'utilizzo del programma: usateli perché sono veramente fatti bene e spiegano di più di mille righe di una e-mail.

Senz'altro ne farò buon uso anche perchè io essendo un volontario che opera in una missione a nord del Kenya, mi sarà molto utile perchè mi trovo in una zona dove regna la savana e per avere un piccolo segnale di copertura per entrare in rete web, devo salire sul campanile della chiesa della missione. Il mare liquido che ribolle sotto i ghiacci di Europa
I caratteristici "terreni caotici", che si osservano sulla superficie ghiacciata del satellite gioviano sono il frutto di fusioni e risolidificazioni continue dovute ai processi convettivi che avvengono in un mare liquido sotterraneo. A stabilirlo è una nuova simulazione al computer che ha prodotto un modello della circolazione su larga scala di questa massa di acqua liquida e del trasferimento di calore che veicola. La circolazione di acqua nel sottosuolo di Europa, il quarto satellite di Giove in ordine di grandezza, è estremamente turbolenta, ed è la disomogenea trasmissione di calore che ne deriva a spiegare le caratteristiche della crosta ghiacciata che ricopre la superficie, in particolare la presenza di terreno caotico alle latitudini più basse. È quanto afferma un nuovo studio pubblicato sulla rivista “Nature Geoscience” da Krista Soderlund dell'Istituto di Geofisica dell'Università del Texas a Austin e colleghi del Georgia Institute of Technology e del Max-Planck-Institut per la ricerca sul sistema solare a Katlenburg-Lindau, in Germania, sulla base di una simulazione al computer dei fenomeni di circolazione su larga scala del mare sotterraneo. I primi sospetti che Europa avesse un oceano liquido sotterraneo risalgono al 1979, quando le immagini della sonda Voyager della NASA mostrarono una superficie ghiacciata quasi completamente liscia e con pochi crateri da impatto, due caratteristiche che hanno fatto
subito pensare a una superficie geologicamente attiva, con trasferimenti di calore dagli strati più profondi e quindi alla presenza di acqua allo stato liquido. Le successive rilevazioni sempre più dettagliate, tra cui quelle della sonda Galileo, mostrano che la coltre glaciale è caratterizzata, per il 40 per cento circa della sua superficie ed entro 40 gradi di latitudine dall'equatore, da terreno “caotico”, cioè percorso da solchi e fratturazioni. Questo è ritenuto un segno di un'interazione tra la copertura di ghiaccio, geologicamente attiva, e il sottostante oceano liquido. Finora, tuttavia, la dinamica degli strati liquidi sotterranei non era ancora chiara. Alcune recenti simulazioni al computer hanno consentito di ottenere soddisfacenti modelli su piccola scala di possibili fenomeni mareali e della formazione di pennacchi idrotermali, ma la circolazione delle masse d'acqua e i trasferimenti di calore che questa circolazione veicola su scala globale superavano le capacità di calcolo a disposizione. Sulla Iss si è brindato tre volte al 2014 : Secondo quanto ha riferito il centro di volo di Mosca, gli astronauti della Stazione Spaziale Internazionale hanno brindato al nuovo anno al loro passaggio in orbita sul centro di controllo di Mosca, sul centro di Houston della Nasa e al passaggio sopra Tokio. L'equipaggio di sei astronauti ha attraversato 15 volte il fuso orario che segna l'inizio del nuovo anno, ma i suoi sei occupanti, due astronauti americani, un giapponese e tre cosmonauti russi, hanno brindato solo tre volte alla fine del 2013 e all'inizio del 2014 a seconda della mezzanotte nel proprio paese di origine.
Da millenni l'uomo sogna di conquistare lo spazio. Ora, siamo più vicini che mai a farlo, ma la strada è ancora lunghissima, tanto da sembrarci quasi interminabile. Anche solo una breve missione con equipaggio verso Marte richiede sistemi e tecnologie non ancora sviluppate. Kotov e Ryazansky hanno frantumato un record che non è durato a lungo: il 17 agosto di quest'anno i cosmonauti russi Fyodor Yurchikhin ed Alexander Misurkin rimasero nello spazio 7 ore e 29 minuti. Il record mondiale di permanenza nello spazio, quasi 9 ore, appartiene agli astronauti americani James Voss e Susan Helms. Nella tradizione cristiana i Magi sono alcuni astronomi e sacerdoti zoroastriani che, secondo il Vangelo di Matteo (2,1-12), seguendo "il suo astro giunsero da Oriente a Gerusalemme per adorare il bambino Gesù, il "re dei Giudei" che era nato.
« Gesù nacque a Betlemme di Giudea, al tempo del re Erode. Alcuni Magi (μάγοι magoi) giunsero da oriente a Gerusalemme e domandavano: "Dov'è il re dei Giudei (βασιλε ὺς τῶν Ιουδαίων basileus tōn ioudaiōn) che è nato? Abbiamo visto sorgere la sua stella (ἀστέρα astera), e siamo venuti per adorarlo". All'udire queste parole, il re Erode restò turbato e con lui tutta Gerusalemme. Riuniti tutti i sommi sacerdoti e gli scribi del popolo, s'informava da loro sul luogo in cui doveva nascere il Messia. Gli risposero: "A Betlemme di Giudea, perché così è scritto per mezzo del profeta:
“E tu, Betlemme, terra di Giuda, non sei davvero il più piccolo capoluogo di Giuda: da te uscirà infatti un capo che pascerà il mio popolo, Israele.”
Allora Erode, chiamati segretamente i Magi, si fece dire con esattezza da loro il tempo in cui era apparsa la stella e li inviò a Betlemme esortandoli: "Andate e informatevi accuratamente del bambino e, quando l'avrete trovato, fatemelo sapere, perché anch'io venga ad adorarlo". Udite le parole del re, essi partirono. Ed ecco la stella, che avevano visto nel suo sorgere, li precedeva, finché giunse e si fermò sopra il luogo dove si trovava il bambino. Al vedere la stella, essi provarono una grandissima gioia. Entrati nella casa, videro il bambino con Maria sua madre, e prostratisi lo adorarono (προσεκύνησαν prosekynēsan). Poi aprirono i loro scrigni e gli offrirono in dono oro (χρυσὸν chryson), incenso (λίβανον libanon) e mirra (σμύρναν smyrnan). Avvertiti poi in sogno di non tornare da Erode, per un'altra strada fecero ritorno al loro paese. Essi erano appena partiti, quando un angelo del Signore apparve in sogno a Giuseppe e gli disse: "Alzati, prendi con te il bambino e sua madre e fuggì in Egitto, e resta là finché non ti avvertirò, perché Erode sta

Gli storici e alcuni biblisti cristiani interpretano questo racconto evangelico come un particolare leggendario, mentre altri biblisti cristiani e il Magistero della Chiesa cattolica ne sostengono la veridicità[. Il particolare ha comunque avuto una straordinaria fortuna artistica, in particolare nelle rappresentazioni della natività e del presepe.
Il racconto evangelico li descrive in maniera estremamente scarna e la successiva tradizione cristiana (in particolare il Vangelo armeno dell'infanzia, tuttavia di minore valore storico rispetto ai vangeli sinottici) vi ha aggiunto alcuni particolari: erano tre (sulla base dei tre doni portati, oro, incenso e mirra), erano re e si chiamavano Melchiorre, Baldassarre e Gaspare.

A soli 15 anni ha inventato un test per diagnosticare in fase preliminare il tumore al pancreas. Il suo progetto, in attesa di brevetto, secondo Forbes è "160 volte più veloce, 100 volte meno costoso, e 400 volte più sensibile dei precedenti test per la diagnosi del cancro". Abbiamo incontrato (e intervistato) il giovane Jack a Roma, dove è stato tra i più attesi relatori del Maker Fair
Ha soli 15 anni e potrebbe avere trovato la cura o meglio, il modo per diasgnosticare in fase preliminare il tumore al pancreas. Jack Andraka, studente liceale di Crownsville, Maryland, è stato uno dei più attesi relatori al Maker Fair tenutosi a Roma in ottobre, la più grande esposizione europea di progetti legati alla creatività e alla manifattura digitale. Un'iniziativa che mira a unire la comunità dei Maker in Europa, i nuovi "Leonardo" del XXI secolo, inventori a tutti gli effetti ma anche artigiani sia digitali che tradizionali. "Tutto è cominciato quando un caro amico di famiglia, che per me era come uno zio, è morto di tumore al pancreas", racconta Jack in partenza per l'Università di Stanford dove è stato invitato a partecipare a Medicine x 2013, un importante convegno dedicato all'innovazione in campo medico. "Ho cominciato a fare delle ricerche su Internet per capire cos'era questo tumore e perché era così difficile trovare una cura. Ho scoperto che non esiste alcun test per una diagnosi preliminare, o meglio ne esiste uno ma è
davvero costoso (circa 800 dollari)". Durante la sua esplorazione digitale del corpo umano, Jack scopre un database di 8 mila proteine: potenziali indicatori del cancro al pancreas. "Di queste proteine la quattromillesima è molto presente nel sangue dei malati", spiega. Dopo alcune prove e sperimentazioni Andraka crea un test, simile a quello per le urine e per il sangue, molto più economico e veloce rispetto a quelli tradizionali. Il test si basa su sensori e nanotubi con un tasso di precisione del 90 per cento. Immerso nel sangue o nell'urina, segnala i livelli della proteina mesotelina (quella che identifica il tumore) e ne misura il contenuto. Una scoperta che il mondo scientifico accoglie con stupore. È il professore Abirban Maitra, esperto di cancro pancreatico, a chiamarlo per primo, proponendogli di raggiungerlo per lavorare nel suo laboratorio e approfondire le ricerce. Berlino «Ottenere l’impossibile»: è la missione della Tao (Tailored Access Operations), l’unità speciale della National Security Agency americana (Nsa) a cui sono affidate alcune operazioni mirate: le più delicate, lì dove falliscono tutti gli altri strumenti della potente agenzia di spionaggio i cui metodi sono stati svelati dalla carte della “talpa” Edward Snowden. A parlare della Tao è il settimanale tedesco Der Spiegel, che - sulla base di nuovi documenti forniti da Snowden - descrive una vera e propria task force di “cyber-spie”. Di un gruppo di geni informatici in grado di intercettare qualunque tipo di dati e matadati e di violare qualsiasi congegno elettronico. Compresi i computer ordinati online, molti dei quali vengono segretamente “modificati” per potervi poi installare “spyware” o “malaware” in grado di forzare ogni tipo di password, pin o codice segreto.

Due milioni di password rubate da Facebook e Twitter non sono tante sul miliardo di utenti che li utilizzano ma il fatto che un solo programma sia riuscito a farlo rende la faccenda ben più interessante. Partito il 21 ottobre, l’attacco è valso un bottino di un milione e mezzo di credenziali per l’accesso ai siti, 320 mila account email, 41 mila accessi all’FTP e tremila accessi al remote desktop, il controllo a distanza di un computer da parte di un altro terminale. Oltre ai due social network risultano colpiti anche Gmail, Yahoo e LinkedIn, in pratica la nostra vita in Rete. VIRUS GLOBALE - La portata è stata globale con ben 92 Paesi colpiti tra cui l’Italia ma va detto però che ad essere assaltati sono stati sopratutto gli account coperti da password deboli e scontate come «123456», «123456789», «1234», e, incredibilmente, la parola «password». A livello geografico la nazione più colpita sono stati i Paesi Bassi seguiti da Thailandia, Germania, Singapore e Indonesia. L’Italia fortunatamente non compare tra i primi dieci che vedono la
presenza anche di Stati Uniti, Siria, Iran e Libano anche se la localizzazione è difficoltosa. Probabilmente i computer di questi Paesi sono serviti solo da ponte per la diffusione del virus con un sistema di rimpalli continui che fa perdere le tracce dei computer infetti.
SOLO UN PONY - Il virus, chiamato Pony Botnet Controller, è arrivato all’attenzione dell’azienda per la sicurezza informatica Trustwave SpiderLabs dopo che un leak ha rivelato il suo codice sorgente, il suo DNA per così dire, così da permettere all’azienda di smascherarlo. Il suo funzionamento è rapido, preciso e sottile. In pratica ogni botnet è una rete di computer infetti che vengono controllati da un solo criminale all’insaputa degli utenti: più il botnet è efficace, maggiore sarà la sua portata e soprattutto la sua capacità di celarsi agli occhi indiscreti di antivirus e cyberpoliziotti. Come afferma John Miller di Trustwave, i responsabili dell’attacco potrebbero essere stati in grado di modificare gli stipendi dei dipendenti, tagliarli o aumentarli a loro

Un'analisi della società specializzata Incapsula conferma il sorpasso di marzo: meno di quattro utenti su dieci di internet sono persone in carne e ossa. Gli altri? Programmi automatizzati per funzioni legittime, come motori di ricerca, o intenti maligni fra cui furto di dati e cyber attacchi. E la crescita non sembra arrestarsi. SORPRESA. Il web non è in mano agli umani ma a un’altra specie, a volte invasiva e pericolosa, e senz’altro meno nota al navigatore medio. Quella dei bot, abbreviazione per "robot", ma non veri e propri androidi: piuttosto, programmi e funzioni automatizzate che svolgono su internet i compiti più disparati, buoni e cattivi: dalle scansioni dei motori di ricerca alle duplicazioni maligne di dati personali fino agli attacchi più devastanti. A certificare il sorpasso, di cui si era già avuto un primo segnale lo scorso marzo, è Incapsula, una società specializzata statunitense che della lotta ai robot della Rete ha fatto il suo core business. Secondo una colossale indagine il 61,5 per cento del traffico sul World Wide Web è dunque da attribuirsi a entità non umane. Insomma, non arriva da ricerche, letture, navigazioni, download e forum – tutte queste attività si fermano al 38,5 per cento – ma da
azioni automatizzate. Il cuore della ricerca è costituito dall’analisi di quasi un miliardo e mezzo di visite di bot a 20mila siti internet di 249 Paesi del mondo negli ultimi novanta giorni. Faremo il pieno di tunicati: ottimi per il bioetanolo
Sono animali marini tubolari e gelatinosi con la particolarità di produrre cellulosa come le piante. Supera le migliori aspettative il primo «raccolto» di tunicati, in corso in questi giorni in Norvegia. Allevati dalla scorsa estate per diventare fonte di energia e di cibo, questi organismi si sono riprodotti nelle fredde acque del mare del Nord con sorprendente generosità. Situati alla base della catena alimentare marina, i tunicati sono animali estremamente semplici. Di consistenza gelatinosa, biancastri, tubolari, i tunicati coinvolti nell’esperimento – della specie Ciona intestinalis - misurano una ventina di centimetri di lunghezza e funzionano in maniera essenziale, dotati come sono di un ingresso (chiamato sifone inalante) e di un’uscita (sifone esalante).
TUNICATI PREZIOSI - C. intestinalis lavora come un piccolo depuratore, perché ingerisce batteri e microrganismi ed espelle acqua purificata; cresce in abbondanza nelle acque temperate di tutto il mondo e non ha predatori. Si distingue per due caratteristiche preziose: è ricca di acidi grassi Omega-3, ed è l’unico animale che produce cellulosa. Quest’ultima caratteristica rende i tunicati preziosi: la cellulosa di cui è composto il loro rivestimento esterno può essere lavorata per ricavarne gli zuccheri necessari alla produzione di bioetanolo. Il bioetanolo, in genere, viene prodotto facendo fermentare biomasse che derivano da prodotti agricoli ricchi di zucchero, come i cereali o le colture zuccherine (cioè la canna da zucchero). Da questa trasformazione è possibile ricavare un etanolo utilizzato come componente per benzine, e quindi come carburante.
COSTI LIMITATI - Le coltivazioni estensive, però, hanno un costo sia monetario che etico (dei giorni scorsi la bocciatura del Consiglio dell’energia dell’Ue sui biocarburanti poco «verdi»); per allevare i tunicati – una «materia prima» che pare costituire una buona alternativa – bastano grossi funi e qualche boa. Il loro nutrimento lo trasportano le correnti marine. Considerati a lungo «erbacce di mare» per l’alto tasso di proliferazione, i tunicati stanno vivendo un momento di gloria.
MOMENTI DI GLORIA - Secondo quanto affermato dai ricercatori norvegesi di Uni Research (un centro di ricerca norvegese specializzato nei campi dell’energia, della biologia molecolare marina e dell’ambiente), del Consiglio norvegese delle ricerche e dell’Università di Bergen, coinvolti nell’operazione, il progetto starebbe dando risultati «talmente eccitanti» da giustificare il passaggio «da un esperimento di scala ridotta a un pilota su grande scala». Per il momento il risultato è stato ottenuto con cellule di topo, ma in futuro la tecnica potrebbe essere applicata anche alle cellule umane per creare innesti da trapiantare per riparare la retina e vincere la cecità. E' questa la conclusione di uno studio dell'università di Cambridge pubblicato sulla rivista Biofabrication. Il meccanismo è simile a quello delle stampanti a getto d'inchiostro - I ricercatori britannici sottolineano che i risultati sono ancora preliminari e dimostrano solo la fattibilità della tecnica. Nel loro esperimento sono riusciti a stampare due tipi di cellule
