Ten designers will show their visual vocabularies, creative strategies and dictionary of allusions based on which are conceived their displayed works.

A Dutch Still Life Composition

A moment of contemplation, an invitation to stand still and observe. Visiting the exhibition Autofficina is like walking into a storyline which just came to a pause. A group of young Dutch Designers is fascinated by the keen attention for detail and composition originated from still life paintings. During the Salone del Mobile 2010 in Milan they create their own composition as a one-time setting in a decayed Italian car garage. A still life projected not on canvas but on ones retina.

Tord Boontje presents work by students and recent graduates of the Design Products course at the Royal College of Art, London. Taking the typology of a hotel, the work is displayed in zones corresponding to the functions and spaces commonly found there, such as a reception area, lounge, and bedrooms. The exhibition will include the full range of design activity represented by this prestigious postgraduate course, including product design and furniture, as well as more conceptual and speculative work.

Kiki van Eiik, a series of 7 “soft” installations which reflect the still lifes as found in the zuiderzee museum and history. They tell the beautiful story of settings that symbolize specific crafts and fragments of daily life. Within these new works Kiki explores new challenges in three of her favourite materials; ceramics, wood and textile. All products are executed with the finest crafts company’s of the Netherlands. Joost van Bleiswijk dives into the World of the VOC. The company that made the Netherlands rich in the golden age by ‘trading’ with the east. The characteristics of the returned goods, the crafts in woodworking of treasure chests and boats have formed the inspiration for “the poor man’s gold”. Joost shows a completely new project where the returned goods are displayed in special treasure chests that have a very special and surprising construction.

Catalogued based on their weight, the projects selected for 13,798 grams of design transform the space of the Lambretto Art Project into a sort of weigh station of creativity, where research on innovative materials, with a focus on aesthetic results and advanced ideas, are the criteria of a survey that presents projects by the most significant voices on the international design scene, including many works never previously shown in Italy..
