Maestro Marino Cappelletti

The Nowon Youth Chamber Orchestra was founded in May of 2007, and is consisted of 20 elementary and middle school students from the Nowon district. First established by the Nowon Arts Center as a cultural course for children around the district, the orchestra is led by many talented instructors with training experience from some of the most prominent European regions for art, and therefore has adopted a European-like educational system.

Through 2007-2010 the Nowon Youth Chamber Orchestra had made annual donations of 1-3 million Korean Won, by holding charity concerts in cooperation with several domestic non-government organizations (NGOs) such as ‘Good Neighbors’ and ‘Peace 3000.’ The orchestra is also handing out scholarships to students of the Nowon district each and very year.

Most importantly, the Nowon Youth Chamber Orchestra has always put a keen effort to give back to the Nowon community, and also the entire society in general, by doing what it does best; performing music (Total of 30-50 hours annually). Every year the orchestra holds concerts at subway stations, schools, social welfare institutions, hospitals, churches and even traditional festivals to entertain the public.

Members from the orchestra’s 8th and 9th regular concert are currently preparing for college.

Heading into it’s 10th year (2016), the Nowon Youth Chamber Orchestra is preparing to be involved with its community even more than ever. The Orchestra vows to continue to spread the importance of ‘giving back,’ while becoming a leading example for the society.
