È possibile incro-ciareunoscoiattolo vivacechesimuoverapidoperriconquistarelatanaeacircametàstradasitrovaun fontanile che, se non è trop-po freddo, dispensa l’acqua chescendedaimonti. Inquesta zonasi trova l’indicazionedel sentiero205perForcellaZumelesaccantoad una delle tante deliziose edi-coleches’incontranosuisentieriinmontagna.Oltrepassatoquestopuntoedopounpaiod’oredicam-minodallapartenza,sigiungeadunbiviodovebisognaporreatten-zione:adestrasiscende lungo il204alrifugioMietreseasinistrasi prosegue sul 211 fino a Larie-to.Nelprimocaso,dopounaso-stanelrifugiopostoa1710mt,sipuòritornareavallepercorrendola pistadi sci sino aCol Tondoepoi lungo la strada attraversan-do Chiamulera e Chiave. Con laseconda scelta, oltre l’agrituri-smoLarieto,dovesiconsigliaunasosta eno-gastronomica, il 211prosegue in un sentiero di circaun chilometro e mezzo che salesino a Rio Gere. Ambedue le va-

riantisisviluppanoall’internodeiduelaricetipiùfamosidiAmpezzoche,durantelastagioneinvernalequandoilaricisonospogli,lascia-noilsottoboscoluminosocreandoun’atmosfera incantevoleemoltorilassante.PerchigiungeaRioGereèpossibi-lerientrareaCortinaconl’autobuschefaservizioperglisciatori,men-tre per chi preferisce la discesa aMietres, tutta al sole…in caso disole,siritornaalPutti,postoanorddiChiave,dovesieragiunticonl’au-to.Seapiedi,oltrepassatalachie-settadelvillaggiodiChiave,sitagliaasinistraricollegandosiall’altezzadiunponticelloallavecchiaferroviafinoatornareaCortina.Buoncamminoebuonescoperte!

Often the cold and snowy season is synonymous with winter sports

and leaves little space for the idea of beautiful and rewarding strolls discovering the forest and its inhab-itants. In Ampezzo, as in all other al-pine resorts, it may snow for a whole week; frustrating with the few hours of light making Skiing in these condi-tions, though possible, less reward-ing and certainly more dangerous. So why not take advantage of “bad weather” and decide to walk instead? The 211 is quite a long path, about a three and a half hours walk through rewarding landscapes. My advice is to go by car to Chiave, a village outside Cortina, abandoning the Alemagna Hwy 51 towards Do-bbiaco, turning right and following the directions for the Codivilla Insti-

tute. You can easily reach it by foot along the old railway, starting from the old train station. Take the road which leads to Chiamulera and Chi-ave, follow the signs for Putti. The 211 route is well marked and visibly trodden. The first part has pines followed by meadows covered with snow. The 211 soon enters into the Woods and a long and steady climb with regular bends starts. You pass feeders that supply hay to the popu-lation of Roe deer who descend to the Valley at dusk to feed at night during the long winter. After about an hour the 211 reaches the first belvedere. It is a popular stop-off point in clear weather, to admire Cortina and the surrounding moun-tains: from Croda da Lago, to Pelmo, 5 Torri, to the great Tofana. Continue along the left of the Pomagagnon spurs, arriving at the highest part of the 211. A spring, when not frozen, dispenses the water that descends from the mountains. There is an sign for path 205 to Forcella Zumeles. Past this point and after a couple of hours from the start, you come to a cross-road where you should pay attention: on the right you go down the 204 to Mietres and on the left you continue on the 211 to Larieto.In the first case, after a stop in the refuge at 1710 meters, you can re-turn to the Valley along the ski slope up to Col Tondo and then along the road crossing Chiamulera and Chi-ave. With the second choice, beyond the Larieto farm, where we recom-mend a gastronomic stopover, the 211 continues for about one and a half kilometers uphill until Rio Gere. Both variants develop within the two most famous Ampezzo larch woods that, during the winter season when the larches are bare, leave light un-derbrush, creating an enchanting at-mosphere. For those who go to Rio Gere may return to Cortina by bus, while for those who prefer the de-scent to Mietres can return to Putti, North of Chiave. If you walk past the Chiave village Church one can turn left linking to the old railway and return to Cortina. Happy walking and good discoveries!
