In its pursuit of a fusion of contents, styles and horizons, the Cortona Mix Festival displays a model of cultural event based on an interweaving of art forms achieved through its dozens of offerings aimed at all types of audience.

Established in 2012 and promoted by the Cortona Cultura Mix Festival Committee (composed of the City of Cortona, Gruppo Feltrinelli, Orchestra della Toscana, Accademia degli Arditi and Officine della Cultura), the Festival takes place in the heart of summer, and the heart of Italy, between the end of July and the beginning of August, against the backdrop of the lovely settings offered by the enchanting Cortona - with a history going back thousands of years - which this year include a venue at the Fortress of Girifalco.

The Cortona Mix Festival returns in 2016 for a fifth edition which confirms its curious gaze. From 30 July to 7 August, it hosts storytellers and writers of fiction and non-fiction; it covers the musical

spectrum from rock to jazz, from folk to classical, it pays homage to Umberto Eco with recollections from all angles offered by all those writers invited to participate in this event; it opens up to technology with HackCortona, a programming competition reserved to teams of young talents. This year, too, the Festival can boast the presence of the Feltrinelli Bookshop, open to our audiences, and to locals and tourists alike until mid-August.

Naturally, we have not neglected to reflect on the present and our scope includes screenings and our customary hybrid pathways, which this year intersect music, storytelling covering both private and collective narratives, current affairs, entertainment, art and performance. An even richer programme, which for the fifth consecutive year aims both to entertain and give food for thought, in virtue of the fact that the harmony of contrasts and contaminations represents the essence of life. Here it is then, day by day.
