Pineider history dates back to 1774, when Mr. Francesco Pineider

opened his first shop in Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy.

It soon became a benchmark for those who love the exclusivity

of prestigious hand-made products, such as personalised leather

goods, personalised, hand-engraved stationery, printed on the fi-

nest papers.

Today, more than two hundred years later, Pineider is a world

recognized brand, thanks to its high-end products, made only

with the very best materials and handcrafted by Italian artisans.

We are very proud of our national and international clientele and

Pineider vows to do its best to maintain this very high level of

exclusive Italian craftsmanship, which has always been the tradi-

tional Pineider philosophy.

This catalogue presents Pineider’s classic products which have

All Pineider products can be personalised with monograms, logos

LA STORIA PINEIDER

Nel 1774 Francesco Pineider, originario della Val Gardena,

apre la sua prima cartoleria nel cuore pulsante della Firenze

del tempo, in piazza della Signoria.

Pineider comincia a produrre raffinati e ricercati articoli di cartoleria e

chincaglie e fin da subito l’offerta di questa bottega del centro è carat-

terizzata dalla stampa personalizzata e dalla varietà di oggetti pregiati di

importazione nordeuropea e francese. La lungimiranza di Francesco Pi-

neider permette di introdurre nella stampa, per la prima volta, i caratteri

internazionali di tradizione anglosassone e germanica e nel contempo offre

pregiate carte, di stili, colori e tipologie diverse, prodotte rigorosamente

a mano dagli artigiani locali o di provenienza francese e olandese. Pineider

propone da subito la famosa stampa a rilievo, prodotta da matrici incise a

mano, secondo la tradizione fiorentina.

Di Pineider s’innamorano non soltanto i fiorentini, ma ben presto i roman-

tici e colti viaggiatori inglesi, francesi e tedeschi di passaggio nella meravi-

gliosa Firenze, tappa obbligata del Grand Tour dell’Ottocento. La tradi-

zione vuole che presso la storica bottega sia passato anche Napoleone in

persona; certo è che sono molti i frequentatori assidui di questa raffinata

cartoleria divenuta, ormai, il punto di riferimento per i letterati del tempo.

Da Pineider in Piazza della Signoria entrano, ordinano, comprano, illustri

personaggi che hanno fatto la storia della letteratura, come Stendhal, Lord

Byron, Percy B. Shelley, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Giacomo Leopardi e

Charles Dickens, per citarne alcuni.

Gli inimitabili biglietti da visita diventano ben presto un oggetto indispen-

sabile per i frequentatori dell’Alta Società e poi, quando nuovi rituali si

impongono sulla scena del bon vivre, Pineider inaugura la tradizione degli

annunci su carta, e produce, così, biglietti per le nascite, i matrimoni, le

occasioni importanti.

Nei primi anni del diciannovesimo se-

colo, visto il crescente successo, su richiesta

della sua clientela privilegiata, Pineider affianca

alle carte una serie di oggetti da scrivania di grande raffina-

tezza: penne, inchiostri, custodie per documenti e accessori

da tavolo, realizzati dagli artigiani fiorentini in pelle di cin-

ghiale, pregiata per leggerezza e resistenza, senza scordare i

ricercati ricami in oro.

Nascono anche le prime carte fiorentine per foderare i rac-

coglitori e gli album e nel contempo matura un’esperienza

importante che farà sì che allora, come oggi, le migliori tec-

niche artigianali siano utilizzate per offrire una produzione

di altissima qualità.

Nella seconda metà del 1800 la cartoleria Pineider

assume la dimensione di Casa, diventando un vero e proprio

marchio. Firenze, per un quinquennio, è capitale d’Italia e Pi-

neider va incontro al nuovo turismo, ora non solo affascina-

to dal patrimonio artistico della città.

Così produce le prime guide di Firenze, ricche di informa-

zioni sui servizi pubblici e privati, le acqueforti con vedute

panoramiche e cartoline illustrate.

Nasce il souvenir cartaceo. È il momento della consacrazio-

ne ufficiale, quando i Savoia, sono a riconoscere in Pineider

l’unico all’altezza di realizzare il materiale di una comunica-

zione di alta rappresentanza. Ambasciate, ministeri, burocra-

zia statale e gli stessi sovrani diventano clienti della bottega

di Piazza della Signoria, ormai troppo piccola per questo ver-

tiginoso aumento di richieste e di affari.

Nel 1867 apre un secondo elegante negozio in Via Torna-

buoni, destinata da quel momento in poi a divenire una delle

più raffinate strade d’Europa.

Quando Roma diventa la capitale del Regno, la famiglia Savo-

ia chiede espressamente a Pineider di aprirvi una filiale per

soddisfare le esigenze della Real Casa.

Nel corso del Novecento Pineider si impone definiti-

vamente negli ambienti culturali ed economici internazionali

e la produzione e la fornitura a grandi enti e aziende stimo-

lano la creazione di nuovi prodotti e servizi, seguendo la

tradizione e lo stile inconfondibile della Casa. Inviti stampati,

annunci di nascite, matrimoni, debutti, carte da visita, carte

da lettera, rilegature personalizzate, ex libris, timbri a secco

e sigilli, si accostano agli accessori tradizionali di sontuosa

eleganza come gli orologi, le cornici, i calendari da tavolo, i

fermacarte e le stilografiche in ebanite, realizzate nel 1884 e

brevettate Pineider, le prime borse dai volumi rigidi per esi-

genze di funzionalità, in pelle di vitello, valorizzata da conce

vegetali. Pineider arriva in tutte le città del mondo, grazie alla

preferenza accordata da regnanti, da personaggi pubblici, dai

protagonisti della cultura e dello spettacolo. Tra le ambascia-

trici d’eccezione, Eleonora Duse e Maria Callas, ma anche

Elisabeth Taylor, celebre per il capriccio di una carta da lette-

ra dello stesso magnifico colore dei suoi occhi. E ancora…

Gabriele D’Annunzio, Luigi Pirandello, Henry Ford, Marlene

Dietrich, Rudolf Nurejiev, Luchino Visconti sono solo alcu-

ni dei clienti più rappresentativi che hanno scelto Pineider

nell’ultimo secolo.

L’offerta dei prodotti è ancora più varia e sempre caratteriz-

zata dallo stile e dall’eleganza del Made in Italy e dall’artigianalità. La celebre

carta rappresenta infatti, ancora, un punto fermo dell’offerta Pineider con

lavorazioni a mano e colorazioni ottenute con pigmenti naturali, fogli ta-

gliati a filo d’acqua, buste foderate con carta velina e l’inimitabile filigrana

Pineider che ne identifica l’autenticità. La stampa, oggi come ieri, resta uno

dei vanti di Pineider, nonché motivo d’orgoglio italiano grazie al sapiente

lavoro degli incisori Pineider, che, oggi come un tempo, stampano a rilievo

grazie alle incisioni a mano delle matrici. Pineider propone, inoltre, una

vasta scelta di pregiata pelletteria dalla lavorazione artigianale, con pellami

conciati esclusivamente in Italia. Le collezioni relative alla pelletteria sono

dedicate all’uomo, alla donna, al viaggio e ora anche al bambino. L’introdu-

zione della collezione Baby, accennata in questo catalogo e presentata su

una brochure a parte, ha ottenuto un grande successo grazie al design fre-

sco e pulito di ogni oggetto, coniugato alla praticità e alla consueta altissima

qualità dei materiali utilizzati.

Il mondo Pineider dedicato al matrimonio rappresenta, inoltre, da oltre

due secoli il meglio per il giorno più emozionante della propria vita.

Nel 2009, per il prestigioso G8, presso l’Aquila in Italia, Pineider è stata

scelta come fornitore ufficiale per i regali del Governo italiano ai capi di

stato e governanti del mondo presenti in quella occasione.

Ogni singolo articolo Pineider è esclusivamente prodotto in

Italia artigianalmente.

PINEIDER HISTORY

In 1774 Francesco Pineider opened his first stationery shop in

the heart of Florence, in Piazza della Signoria, opposite Michelan-

gelo’s David. Pineider’s shop started producing and selling exclusive

paper, handmade by local artisans and craftsmen from France and Holland. The

shop soon became well known for both the high quality of its paper and the wide

range available. Francesco Pineider was the first man in Italy to introduce printed

letters drawn from the Anglo-Saxon and Germanic tradition, and his avant-garde

equipment made it possible to produce perfect, spotless lithographic and copper-

plate prints such as relief prints, produced from hand-engraved dies. Pineider

soon became the stationer of choice for the European bourgeoisie who appre-

ciated this luxury paper and asked for made-to-order visiting cards, papers with

elegant embossed characters, coats of arms and monograms hand-engraved in

gold, using a technique perfected by Renaissance goldsmiths.

In the early nineteenth century, at the request of privileged customers,

Pineider created a series of extremely elegant writing desk objects such as pens,

desk sets, folders and accessories.

Later on Pineider introduced leather objects made in Florence by master crafts-

men. Classic black, brown, crimson and bright forest green briefcases, travel bags

and cases, made exclusively in pigskin. Books from valuable private collections

and albums were rebound by Pineider in leather, decorated with gold embroidery

and personalised with initials and monograms. Cultured and romantic English,

French and German travellers fell in love with Pineider when they would arrive in

Florence, the typical destination of the nineteenth century Grand Tour. Legend tel-

ls us that Napoleon was among the travellers who entered the historical Pineider

shop, which became the stationer of choice for authors, artists and poets, such

as Stendhal, Lord Byron, Percy B.Shelley, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Giacomo

Leopardi and Charles Dickens.

In the second half of the nineteenth century, the

founder’s successors followed Pineider’s tradition with the same

care and passion. Florence became the Italian Capital and, as a

consequence, tourism soon flourished. Pineider printed the first official guides

to the city and produced photographs and postcards, ushering in the era of

the ready-to-buy souvenir. Florence was an important cultural and commercial

crossroad and Pineider was the stationer for prestige communications, for prin-

ted documents, and for cards. Embassies, ministries, state offices and The Savoy

Royal Family became customers of the shop in Piazza della Signoria, which soon

became too small to cope with the dizzying increase in demand and business.

In 1867 Pineider opened a second elegant shop in Florence in the magnificent

Via Tornabuoni. When, five years later, Rome became the Capital of the kingdom,

the Savoy family then asked Pineider to open a new shop in the Eternal City to

cater for the needs of the Royal household.

In the twentieth century Pineider kept pace with international cultural

trends while keeping in touch with traditional products. Personalised personal

and business stationery, ebonite Pineider patented fountain pens, vegetable tan-

ned calfskin bags and wedding necessities, all joined the Pineider catalogue.

Pineider made an appearance in all the world’s cities, thanks to the patronage of

sovereigns, public figures and business personalities. These are just some of the

illustrious names on its roll of clients: Eleonora Duse, Gabriele D’Annunzio, Luigi

Pirandello, Maria Callas, Liz Taylor, Henry Ford, Marlene Dietrich, Rudolf Nureyev,

Luchino Visconti, among others.

Today, more than 200 years since the first shop opened its doors,

choosing Pineider still means choosing the best style, highest quality

and most skilled Italian craftsmanship.

The range today is even wider than before, having been expanded using innova-

tive materials, crafted in accordance with our old traditions and techniques. The

famous bespoke Pineider stationery still represents a cornerstone of Pineider’s

production. Paper is still made using traditional methods and the Pineider water-

mark is present even on thick cards.

Pineider printing techniques are a source of great pride and rely on the Pineider

master engravers who hand engrave steel dies, which then are used to print on

Pineider stationery. The leather goods, all made with the very best materials, are

dedicated to men, women and travel.

L’anno di fondazione di Pineider dà il nome a 1774, collezione diventata in breve tempo un classico tra la proposte dedicate all’uomo e alla donna. Oggi la Collezione 1774 si presenta in una veste rinnovata, che vede protagonisti nuovi materiali e colori, risultato di un’attenta ricerca volta sempre al miglioramento. Se è stata gelosamente mantenuta la laboriosa modelleria, dai trafori e bordi dentellati, che richiamano il mondo della calzatura classica, ora 1774 presenta due novità assolute: il duraturo vitello rugato color ebano ed il resistente tessuto spalmato nero.

Collezione 1774 takes its name from the year in which Pineider was founded. Al-though only launched a few years ago it has already become a Pineider Clas-sic. The new revised edition is the result of attentive research into the areas of colour and leather. The inspiration of Collezione 1774 still comes from the hand-made shoe world, with a classic pun-ched-hole brogue pattern, the aged calf-skin, which gave a vintage glam to all the products of this collection. However the new edition embraces two new materials: a Rugato calfskin, in mat ebony colour, and an enduring coated black canvas.

è il frutto di un’accurata scelta che vuo-

le premiare e salvaguardare le lavorazioni

artigianali italiane e sottolinearne la tra-

dizione. Le carte Pineider, che presentano

la filigrana anche in grammature alte, si

caratterizzano per peculiarità uniche come

la sfrangiatura ad acqua o a macchina, la

presenza della fodera in carta velina ap-

posta a mano, la vergatura e la colorazio-

ne dei bordi realizzate a mano, secondo la

vera tradizione artigianale fiorentina. Le

carte Pineider sono realizzate in cotone o

in cellulosa pregiata, sono esenti da clo-

ro e acidi e hanno PH neutro. La colorazio-

ne, dove prevista, è con pigmenti naturali.

1774, Pineider has been synonymous

preserve the best of Italian artisanal

craftsmanship. Pineider paper is still

made with unique processes such as the

water cut edging or the hand-colouring

of the borders. All Pineider papers are

made with the best cotton or cellulose

and are chlorine and acid free, with neu-

tral PH. The colouring of the paper is

always made with natural pigments. The

Pineider range includes many collections

Questa collezione, dedicata solo alla

donna, è nata dallo sviluppo della ce-

lebre borsa minibowling Pineider, che

negli ultimi anni si è rivelata essere la

borsa forse più desiderata. Questa col-

lezione, in vitello rugato, con varian-

ti bicolore per le più vezzose, adatta

ad una clientela giovane e meno giova-

ne, presenta quattro varianti: minibow-

ling, bauletto, birillo e microbowling.

Small è realizzata in morbido vi-tello nappato raccolto da briglie in cuo-io che richiamano nella forma i finimenti equestri. Il tocco finale, dato dalla cera-tura e spazzolatura della pelle permette un movimento cromatico che rende ancora più evidente l’opera dei maestri artigiani.

Non classical shapes, small dimensions and lightness, well adapted to a modern and sinuous design are the main charac-teristics of the SMALL collection, dedi-cated both to men and women, for leisu-re and business. The Small collection is in full grain napa calfskin leather and features Italian leather bridles, tan-ned with vegetable extracts, which take inspiration from the equestrian world. A finishing touch is given by the wa-xing and brushing applied to this lea-ther, a classical technique of the shoe world, used in order to add smoothness and shades of colours to the materials.
