Il clima gradevole e la bellezza del luogo, fanno di Sper-longa, sin dall’epoca romana, sede ideale di fastose ville patrizie, tra cu spicca quella dell’Imperatore Tiberio. Ma è con la caduta di Roma, che Sperlonga inizia ad as-sumere l’aspetto caratteristico che ancora oggi ammiria-mo. La popolazione comincia ad arroccarsi sulla collina protesa sul mare. Una necessità determinata soprattutto dai continui attacchi dei pirati che infestavano il Tirreno.Il grande sviluppo verrà solo dopo la costruzione della litoranea, nel 1957. La nuova arteria fece conoscere l’an-tico borgo marinaro e la preziosa collezione di marmi di Villa Tiberio, lanciando Sperlonga come una delle mete turistiche e culturali più apprezzate del Lazio.

The pleasant climate and beauty of the place, make Sperlonga, since Roman times, the ideal site of patrician villas, including that of the Tiberio’s Roman Emperor. It was with the fall of Rome, which Sperlonga starts to assume the characteristic appearance that it is still admired today. The population began to retreat on hill jutting out into the sea. A particular need mainly by the continuous attacks of pirates who infested the Tyrrhenian Sea.Major development will come only after the construction of the co-ast road “Via Flacca” in 1957. The new road became known the old fishing village and the valuable marbles collection of Villa of Tiberius, launching Sperlonga as one of most popular and cultural tourist destinations of Lazio.

Chi entra in questo museo di Sperlon-ga, tempio omerico d’occidente uni-co nel mondo al margine del mare di Ulisse, sotto l’aquila di Zeus re degli immortali e di Tiberio reggitore dell’im-pero di Roma erede di Ilio, custodisce sempre nel cuore il ricordo dell’autun-no 1957 quando il popolo di Sperlonga impedì con tenace impegno che i pre-ziosi reperti appena scoperti fossero trasportati nell’onnivora Roma, gloria alle fiere donne in stola nera, ai ragazzi impavidi amantissimi della terra natia, per aver intuito che il bene archeolo-gico deve restare là dove è venuto alle prode della luce, testimonianza – me-moria – storia perenne.

The Grand Hotel La Playa is situated on it’s private beach and along the road lead-ing to the town cen-tre, very near to the commercial zone. Wide open and cov-ered private car park, wide terraces and has a view of the Pontine islands and headland of Circeo. The 60 rooms: all rooms have their own bathroom recently restored, hairdryer, air condi-tioning, safe, minibar, satellite TV, direct dial telephone, a little balcony or garden. Facilities: an indoor bar and a pool bar, a swimming pool shaded by coconut palms, a private beach with direct access from the hotel. By car or by public service, at few minutes by the hotel, there are the horse center, the center nautical skiing, the museum and the archeological area of Tiberius. Residence / Hotel “COSTA DI KAIR ED DIN”, which was built recently, is situated in the heart of a naturalenvironment.It is immersed in the green, with a View onthe sea. The Hotel is about 700m from the centre of Sperlonga, and abaout 1500m from the beach. The whole area iscovered in mediterranean vegetation and Well kept, extremely colorfull gardens. Its name originates from an event which took place in 1535, when the Algerian pirates, lead by the Turkish admiral KAIR ED DIN (tr.: BARBAROSSA) destroyed the inhabited area.Theonly surviving citizens were the ones who took cover in the nearby wood, where the Hotel now stands. The building is made up of a “hotel” section, with double rooms and private bathroom and lavatory, and resi-dential area with houses made up of 2 or 3 rooms includine kitchen area.All of these are furnished in a sober and functional Way and the include acolour TV set and telephone, accomodation totaling 250 beds.Moreover, the building disposes of a Bar, a park for children to play in, a TV room, two tennis courts, swimming-pool personal parking lots, a minima-rket and a bus service to link the sea to the various centres.

L’area è coperta da vegetazione medi-terranea e da giardini coloratissimi e ben curati. Prende il nome dalle vicende del 1535, quando i pirati Algerini, comandati dall’Ammiraglio Turco KAIR ED DIN (in italiano: BARBAROSSA) distrussero Vabitato ed i soli cittadini che sopravvissero furono quelli che si rifugiarono nella località boscosa dove ora sorge l’albergo. Fatti non fummo a viver come bruti, ma per seguire virtude e conoscenza, così il sommo poeta faceva parlare Ulisse, mentre si trovava nella terra dov’è situato L’ostello della gioventù Marina degli ulivi, quella stessa riviera che prende il suo nome.La suggestiva posizione della struttura lo rende unico, infatti il mare dista appena 100mt, dove vi è la spiaggia riservata in esclusiva per i clienti dell’ostello, così come l’ampio parcheggio.La struttura dispone di 10 camere suddivise in due, quattro, sei , otto, dieci posti letto, tutte con bagno privato.L’ostello dispone di cucina dove sarà possibile degustare la squi-sita offerta eno-gastronomica della riviera di Ulisse; Per coloro i quali volessero assaggiare la famosissima pizza del maestro Spezza, funzionerà il servizio pizzeria sia a pranzo che a cena.Il centro di Sperlonga dista appena 350mt dall’ostello tramite una magnifica passeggiata.Non resta altro che conoscerci presso l’ostello per godere di tut-te le altre amenità che volutamente non abbiamo descritto per-chè viaggiare e conoscere, è come rinascere ogni volta.
