Sintesi giunge dopo Nido e Birdcage 75 th , dueconcept molto diversi tra loro. Che cosa c incomune con Sintesi?Nido e Birdcage 75 th avevano segnato i due lati dellaricerca Pininfarina a cui si ispira anche Sintesi: lasportivit della dream car Birdcage75 th e la ricercadi funzionalit di Nido. Il tutto iniettato da una fortevocazione al futuro e racchiuso in un involucro dibellezza espressione della linea Pininfarina.

Come denirebbe la ricerca stilistica in questoprogetto?Fedele ai canoni tipici delle linea Pininfarina. E, cometutte le auto Pininfarina, pi che descriverla bisognaguardarla, toccarla, farsi emozionare, desiderare diguidarla e di fare un viaggio nel futuro dellauto.

passengers and their needs for space and safety.The result is that the passengers have been placedin a low, dynamic position inside a car that features ahighly aerodynamic exterior.

What does Sintesi have in common with Nido and Birdcage 75 th , Pininfarinas most recent concepts? Nido and Birdcage 75 th had marked the two aspectsof Pininfarina research which also inspires Sintesi: thesportiness of Birdcage 75 th dream car and the searchfor functionality in Nido. Everything was injected witha strong vocation for the future and encapsulated ina beautiful casing expressing the Pininfarina line.

How would you dene the stylistic research in this project? Faithful to the canons inherent in Pininfarina styling.Like all Pininfarina cars, rather than describe Sintesi,you should look at it, touch it, be excited by it, want todrive it and take a trip in it into the future of the car.

The Cambiano design centre, the heart of Pininfarina creativity, is made up of peoplewith an average age of 35. Iniziamo questo viaggio dentro Sintesi. Quale laspetto pi innovativo della vettura?Sicuramente un nuovo modo di concepire la vetturache abbiamo denito Liquid Packaging.Nelle auto di oggi la meccanica ha un impattodeterminante sullarchitettura della vettura limitandola libert del designer di progettare abitacolo e lineaesterna. Grazie alle nuove tecnologie possibiledistribuire gli spazi in maniera pi armonica partendodalluomo e dalle sue esigenze. E Sintesi ne unadimostrazione concreta.

Affascinante, ma cosa signica in concreto?Le nuove tecnologie sviluppate da Nuvera fuel cellse batterie permettono un utilizzo pi sosticatoe integrato degli spazi, consentendo di crearegeometrie pi adattabili, regalando al designermaggiore libert. Il metodo Liquid Packaging unametafora della possibilit di frammentare parti unavolta compatte e monolitiche che ora, quasi comeun liquido, possono occupare spazi prima inutilizzati,permettendo di creare forme intorno alluomo.

Come stato applicato in Sintesi questo nuovoapproccio?Lapplicazione del Liquid Packaging ha sconvoltogli equilibri volumetrici tradizionali. Innanzituttoci ha permesso di liberare lo spazio anteriorenormalmente occupato dal motore: le fuel cells sonostate infatti suddivise in 4 blocchi che gravitanointorno alle ruote. Sistemando questi elementi e lealtre parti della propulsione nella parte bassa dellavettura abbiamo cos ottenuto una distribuzionemigliore del peso e un abbassamento del baricentro,elementi importanti per la dinamica di guida.Il risultato che lo spazio per le persone - in

proporzione al volume totale della vettura - molto pi ampio, senza peraltro compromettere lasportivit della linea che presenta un prolo moltodisteso, elegante e aflato.A chi guida e a chi viaggia in Sintesi abbiamo quindiassicurato uno spazio armonico e una visibilitinusuale. A tutto questo abbiamo voluto aggiungerelesperienza della mobilit trasparente, per unacompleta armonia ed integrazione fra luomo, lautoe il suo ambiente.

So lets start this journey into Sintesi. What is themost innovative aspect of the vehicle? Unquestionably a new way of imagining the carwhich we have called Liquid Packaging. In the carsof today the mechanicals have a decisive impact onthe architecture of the vehicle, thereby restrictingthe freedom of the designer in his work on the cabinand external line. Due to the new technologies itis possible to distribute space more harmoniouslyto suit man and his needs. Sintesi is a concretedemonstration of this.

Fascinating, but what does that mean in real terms? The new technologies developed by Nuvera fuelcells and batteries allow a more sophisticated,integrated use of space, enabling us to create moreadaptable geometries and offering the designergreater freedom. The Liquid Packaging method isa metaphor for the possibility of fragmenting partsthat were once compact and monolithic but whichnow, liquid-like, may occupy spaces that used to beunused, so enabling us to create forms around man.

How was this new approach applied in Sintesi? The application of Liquid Packaging has redenedthe balance of traditional volumes. First of all it hasenabled us to free up front space that is normallyoccupied by the engine: the fuel cells have been split

into 4 sets and gravitate around the wheels.By tucking away these elements and the other partsof the drive train in the low part of the vehicle,we have achieved better weight distribution and alowering of the centre of gravity, factors of greatimportance in driving dynamics.The result is that the room available for people proportionately to the cars total volume is muchgreater, while not impacting the sportiness of the linewhich presents an elegant and sharp laid back prole.For the driver of Sintesi and its passengers wehave therefore guaranteed harmonious space andexceptional visibility. To all this we have added theexperience of Transparent Mobility for full harmonyand integration between occupants, car andenvironment.

Can we therefore expect a positive impacton trafc? Yes, because the vehicle becomes a component ina system that has its own degree of self-regulation,with an evidently positive impact on trafc as awhole.

Has this system inuenced the design of the car? Absolutely, yes. Today the shape of car is stronglyinuenced by laws and regulations, for example thosefor passive safety. Also as a result of pedestrianimpact regulations the front volume of the car hasbecome larger (and added weight). A greater contentof advanced active safety equipment, tightly tiedto the evolution of new electronic systems, can

contribute to reduce the dimensions of the traditionaldevices to be installed, for the benet of the lightnessand aerodynamics of cars. And to keep faith with thePininfarina line.

Transparent Mobility

Cosa si intende per mobilit trasparente?Oltre agli aspetti di stile Pininfarina ha semprecercato nei concept soluzioni per la mobilit.Grazie alla libert concessaci dalle tecnologieutilizzate stato quindi naturale pensare ad unasoluzione non solo allinterno del singolo veicolo manel contesto in cui il veicolo stesso si muove (altriveicoli e infrastrutture). Una sorta di network capacedi rendere trasparenti i sistemi di comunicazionedelle singole macchine e di garantire una mobilitsicura ed efciente.

Lidea quindi quella di far comunicare le autotra loro?S, proprio cos: Sintesi comunicher con le altreautomobili e sar in grado di scegliere il percorsomigliore grazie alla tecnologia radio-sviluppata daReicom.

Questo signica che il sistema sostituisce ilguidatore?No, anche se questo sistema ha una suaintelligenza non sostituisce il guidatore, mainterviene solo in caso di pericolo. Lintelligenza delveicolo viene quindi usata sia dal guidatore che dal

sistema automatizzato gestito dalla vettura stessa.Linterfaccia utente sar molto intuitiva, utilizzerun linguaggio - messo a punto da Pi Shurlok - fattodi luci e colori in grado di essere immediatamentecompreso dal guidatore senza intermediazione disegni o icone.

Dovremmo quindi avere un impatto positivo sututto il trafco?Si, poich la vettura diventa un componente di unsistema che ha un suo grado di autoregolazione, conevidenti impatti positivi su tutto il trafco.

Questo sistema ha inuenzato il design dellauto?Assolutamente s. Oggi la forma delle auto fortemente inuenzata dai vincoli legislativi edai sistemi di sicurezza passiva, ne un esempio

laumento di volume (e quindi di peso) della partefrontale, dettato dalla normativa sulla protezione deipedoni. Un maggiore contenuto di dotazioni avanzatedi sicurezza attiva, strettamente legate allevoluzionedi nuovi sistemi elettronici, pu contribuire a ridurrele dimensioni dei dispositivi da installare, conbenecio sulla leggerezza e laerodinamica dellevetture. E di mantenere fede alla linea Pininfarina.

What is meant by Transparent Mobility? Apart from styling, Pininfarina has always tried to present new mobility solutions in its concept cars.With the freedom granted to us by the technologiesused, it was therefore natural to imagine a solutionnot only for the individual vehicle, but for howvehicles can communicate with one another whilstin transit. A kind of network capable of renderingtransparent the communication systems of individual cars and guaranteeing safe, efcientmobility.

So you want cars to communicate with oneanother? Exactly: Sintesi will communicate with other cars andwill be able to select the best route thanks to theradio technology created by Reicom.
