LA DOPPIA VITADEL SIGNOR ROSENBERG

FABRIZIOSILEI

Fabrizio Silei never ceases to surprise us.

A great historical novel with dickensian echoes for a youngaudience.

Mr Rosenberg descends from a lineage of businessmen and is the ownerof a large chain of emporiums in late 1920s America. He has two greatpassions: money and playing chess over the phone. The poor and theworking class are not allowed to enter his emporiums; these are placeswhere members of the bourgeoisie must feel a part of a happy America, free of imperfections. A few months prior to the crisis of 1929, a younggirl accused of theft is brought into his office. The girl, whose beautifulface is however marked by a cleft lip, challenges him to a game of chessand wins. It is thanks to her that Rosenberg comes into contact with themost destitute stratum of society. This experience will forever change hislife, allowing him to redeem himself and become a better person.

«A refined and enthralling novel. A story which entwines therhythms of a fairy tale with the reality of the history of the1900’s. Angels, demons and the folly of a world based on profitat any cost. Once again Silei is confirmed as a great author. Aknowledgeable and poetic vision from someone who knows thatthe best way to understand today is to look back on yesterday ».
