The project’s aim is designing a graphic product which could widen the expressive capacities and fruition ways of a book about travelling. The book is not meant to be only read, but it must also communicate the writer’s mes-sage in a visual manner.

The book analyzed here is Journey to the East (Il Pellegrinaggio in Oriente) by Hermann Hesse. After a research phase about the author and its books, the challenge is finding out suggestions and meanings taken under consid-eration by the author.

Reading the novel, sum of Hesse’s philosophy, is not only aimed to the comprehension of the plot, but also and above all to frame the plot within the author’s sensibility.

a The cover calls the interest in eastern philosophies of the author, and reflects his poetic and artistic conception, expressed in the novel as “legge del servire” (law of service), that is the focus of the entire plot.

b Starting with very poor and untreated text composition, parallel to the protagonist’s path of spiritual elevation, the text gradually becomes more refined and harmonious, enriched with typographic and stylistic elements.

Climate Change is more and more becoming an important debate all around the world. Desalination is one of the many subjects which might be considered while discussing about climate change. From a specific case to a worldwide problem, this report (a) explains how seawater desalination, although it is not the most debated issue, mostly because of its defined areas of interest, it is one of the points where the climate change controversy takes place.

The research has been estabilished trough the developing of a protocol composed by different digital methods of search in the web, to hear all of the non-scientific voices in the worldwide overview of controversy about desali-nation (b).

Then once collected the data on actors (c) involved in the discussion and on the ways and means of dialogue between them, all of this data were visu-alized in infographics (d).

The aim of the project was to make the sherry more popular (offering typi-cal tapas food with it) and, at the same time, to preserve the strong character of the product, deeply connected with the traditions of Andalucia.

The project consisted in designing a new label (a, c, d) and package for the wine and the other products (b). It also included a leaflet to match with the products, containing information about the wine and food. A mock-up of a webpage and advertising campaign dedicated to Tio Pepe Tapas Edition were realized.

The project aim is designing a corporate image for the city of Lecco, start-ing with the creation of a specific logo for the city (a). Then the design of a visual system of both internal/istitutional and promotional/esternal com-munication (b,c).

The project consisted in the design of the identity of the ciclable path con-necting Lecco to Milano and in the organization of the wayfinding system trough the creation of a family of segnaletic signs.

This path passes through different locations, where there are parks, fes-tivals, rest areas and activities. In addition to the creation of a logo and a coordinate image of the path, the wayfinding system aim to provide a better integration of all of this actraction and a requalification of the path trough the highlighting of the environmental, cultural, or gastonomic potential offered by this zone.

Four possible way of use of the bike path were identified and the identity of the track was structured according to these four categories.

The project consisted in: logo (a), pictograms family (b), apposite font (c), thematic brochures (f), billboard (g) and panels (d, e, h).

The visual concept, adopted not al last for a pratical necessity, is the sten-cil style.

The project aims to create a visual system of wayfinding (a) for the Palace of Justice of Milan. The project was born from the idea that justice should be easily accessible to people, an idea that goes wrong with the current seg-naletic system of the Palace of Justice: the aim of the project is “Giustizia a portata di mano”, handy justice.

Purpose of the project is the requalification of Balossa park, in Milan. This park hasn’t any specific identity, and it’s perceived only as an agricultural conglomerate.

The aim is to create a corporate image of the park, which could give it a strong identity.

The project focuses the attention on the coexistence of the agricultural world and urbanization that now forces these fields in a few acres of land surrounded by buildings, sheds and a highways.

The inspiration comes from the agriculture imaginary, especially from the tools used in the fields.

The color palette combines traditional country warm colors and urban neutral ones.

The project consisted of a logo (a), a segnaletic system (c, d, f) and a pictograms family (b).

In a World where Climate Change is becoming a serious concern, where population grows dramatically and developing countries push their indus-tries to produce more and more goods, Water plays a key role. This chart focuses on water usage by Agriculture, as it is the major source of water withdrawals all around the world. When we talk about Agriculture, we mean everything linked to the production of food (vegetables, animals), fibers, fuel and raw materials which are intended to be machined by, for example, the textile industry.

In this scenario, we are observing how agriculture uses water, dividing it in two big sections: irrigation-based agriculture and rainfed agriculture; this division is the best in order to point out how Agriculture is affected by Cli-mate Change. Why? Because climate change increases temperatures, and temperatures increase extreme precipitation events which cause the rainfed agriculture to suffer due to runoff (the flowing of water on soil). Moreover, the more temperature rises, the more glaciers melt and sea level increases, decreasing the amount of freshwater available for mankind.

In the last part of the scheme, the red one, focus is made on actions, laws and influences put in act by the Organizations which concern Earth and Cli-mate Change. Actions and Acts go in the climate change adaptation direc-tion; they are not quantifiable

but they express the need to take action in favour of a world where water is no longer a concern.

Around the major aeroportual hubs all around the world a dense web of content is spun.

The scheme considers the flow of incoming flights especially international as a construct for the survey related to this content.

The aim of the project is to provide a quantitative description on the amount of incoming airport traffic and a qualitative description that distin-guishes the origin of flights.

The focus on five main hubs of the global air flow illustrates the different types of the system.

The proportion of international or domestic flows, the number of connect-ed airports, the number of routes from different continents, outline different patterns of accumulation of contents.

The infographic shows the percentage of single women and single men in the Province of Milan. It was considered a range of people from 25 to 49 years. The 3 cities analysed are: Milan, the most populous city of the prov-ince; Nosate, the one with the lowest number of inhabitants, and Gessate a middle ground between the two.

8.1 Al di là del mareLeaflet starting from quote

This brochure was born from a quote about travel: “ Il vero viaggio di sco-perta non consiste nel cercare nuove terre ma nell’avere nuovi occhi” by Mar-cell Proust. Its purpose is to express with graphics the meaning of the quote, but also to contextualize it within the poetics and generically the world of the author: the aim is to design the brochure like the author would.

The brochure conteins a cover (a), informations about the author (c) and the projectual choises (b), and the quote (d).

The aim of the Design NO stop project was to take part of the debate about university system reform, which took place in September 2010. The purpose of the project is to underline the gap between private and public university, strongly increased by the reform. The lack of appropriate state aid causes and increase of tuition fees, making college a privilege that not any-one can afford. UNIVERSITÀ (university) a word that refers ro participation and discussion, open to everybody, becomes DIVERSITÀ (diversity), refer-ring to the dispute between public and private.

ExtraSkills is an interactive reality. Interactive because it makes two in-compatible worlds interact them-self: demand and supply of work. It must take advantage of work power and cover the gap between uncovered skilled works and who has these skilled abilities and work experiences. Interactive because ExtraSkills works with web, video and phones to speed up all en-gagement practices. ExtraSkil is a very quick system and speed is a surplus value in the work field. Even more interactive because ExtraSkills works with foreigners and so it makes the foreigners’ world interact and integrate in the Italian country. Foreign workers have ablities and expertises which are great demand in Italy but it does not konw they exist. ExtraSkills can cover this gap.

The project consists in the mock up of the website (a).

Desalination dissolutionThese pictograms are designed for the project Desalination Dissolution (p. 15), to identify different

actors categories and thematics of the controversy.

PICTOGRAMSThe series of pictograms included in this section were born as parts of other projects, many of which

are presented in this portfolio. The choice of desplaying them in a special section is connected to my personal interests. Pictograms seem to be one of the best examples of visual synthesis we can find in graphic design, they are also part of our daily experience.
