3 BASIC INSTRUCTIONS

3.1 COMMAND PANEL

The system, protected by a sturdy door, has a control panel that allows the management of the system and the automatic movement of the filters. You can use an optional module to manage the sensors of rel-ative humidity, of the speed and wind direction and of also a system that regulate and keep constant the flow sampling.

Using the heads for sampling PM 10 and PM 2.5 in accordance with European standard EN 12341 (flow rate 2.3 m3 / h), or alternatively, the sampling heads PM 2.5 and PM 10, conform to USEPA (flow 1 m3 / h), the detection of ambient temperature and barometric pressure allow to calculate and update in real time the sampling flow, so to maintain constant the air speed at the entrance point of the fractionated PM 10 or PM 2.5. This regulation system grants higher accuracy in the collection of particles with the use of PM 10 - PM 2.5).

The data of the planning and of the samples managed by the system are stored and / or printed. The memory capacity can store more than 20 samples, considering that the data of a sampling are made of the settled data and of the individual samples. For more safety reason, the data are protected against the accidental cancellation.

The stored data can be downloaded to a Personal Computer and/or printed even during or at the end of the sampling period. With the storage of the data it is possible to continue with the execution of the sampling even in case of error of the printer.

The software features of the sampler are described in the following paragraphs.

The instrument manages and stores the parameters indicated in the schedule Tabel 1 of the D.L. n° 60 of the 02.04.2002

Parameters list:

Volumic flow at the beginning of the sample Average of the volumic flow in the sampling period Variation coefficient CV of the volumic flow in the sampling period Indicator of exceeding for more than 5 minutes of the limit of the 10% of the settled flow Total volume sampled Ambient temperature Average, minimum and maximum of the ambient temperature in the sampling period Atmospheric pressure Average, minimum and maximum of the ambient pressure in the sampling period Down pressure on the filtering device during the sampling Average, minimum, maximum down pressure in the sampling period Temperature close to the filtering device Indicator of the exceeding maximum allowed limit (5 °C) in the difference between the temperat-

3.6 CASSETTE FILTERSTo run the samples you must use the "cassette filters”. This system of "filter preparation” has the advant -age of avoiding the manipulation of the filter in the place where it has been executed the sampling. The CONTROLLER 16 is equipped with 2 cartridge filters, one for the "white" filters and the other for the sampled filters. The loader of the cassette filter is a system that facilitates the transport and the storage of the filters. It is able to contain up to 16 filter cassettes. Inside each cassette filter it can be placed membranes of different types depending on the substance that has to be determinated.

of the pipe that, from the CONTROLLER 16 allows the inlet of air to push and lift the filters during the loading

G Mode loading and ejection of the cassette filters from the loaderH Housing of the loaders in the CONTROLLER 16

PRELIMINAR OPERATIONS TO EXECUTE ON THE CASSETTE FILTERS:

The preparation (conditioning) of the filters must be performed without the cassette filter. Always check the precise fitting of the cassette filters (Sequence: Membrane - White Ring - closure Ring of the cassette filter) and verify that they are blocked and without dents. In the case of use of membranes in Teflon with ring reinforcement it should not be mounted the white cassette filter. If you use membranes in cellulose acetate it is necessary to mount a pre-filter to increase the total thickness. Use membranes with maximum thick of 475 micron (please contact before Zambelli for the use of higher thickness membranes). Do not write and do not apply labels on the sides of the cassette filter. Always check the exact quantity of the cassette filters in the left loader (white filters) depending on the number of samples to execute.

8 PELTIER AND THERMORESISTANCE ( OPTIONALS )The system Explorer Plus could be equipped with 2 optionals kit: kit “peltier” and kit “ther-moresistance”.Both kits are completely independent between them. The kits must be initiated manually from the control panel and programmed individually. The kit "Peltier" allows you to cool the sampled filters, while the "thermoresistance" warms in-side. The "thermoresistance" is necessary to maintain a temperature within the system over than 0°C. Sampling according to the D.L. No. 60 of 02.04.2002 (which defines that the tem-perature of the air in the nearest of the filter has not to exceed 5 ° C from the ambient temper-ature), it is necessary to regulate the "programmer" of the kit "Peltier" within 5°C from ambient temperature.

Use of “programmer”:The kits are independent from the system that controls the sampling, therefore after having turned on the main switch of the system operate as follows: Launch the kits using the switches located on the control panel, when the "Peltier" or the "ther-moresistance" started, on the display (B) it appears "Lod" and after about 10 seconds it will be displayed the current temperature. In case of anomaly it appears E1 in the display; in this case, contact the technical assistance in Zambelli.

To set the temperature do the following:

Push 2 times “Set” (D) to display the tem-perature set at that moment.

Push the indicators (A) to increase or dimin-ish the desired temperature.(Not acting on the buttons for 15 seconds it goes back to display the temperature, meanwhile if you push “fnc” (C) you can memorize the new temperature.

Afterwords the kits will become operative. To have a confirmation of the functioning, the led "OUT" will be lighted when the ther-moregulator will make start the "thermores-istance" or "peltier", till to reach the desired temperature (when reaching the temperat-ure the "programmers" ensure to maintain it constant).

Important: Not starting the thermoresistance if the ambient temperature does not go under zero degrees.

12 FLOW TESTFlow test allows to verify if, with a certain impedance (called CAPTATORE), you can reach the minimum flow and / or the maximum flow needed to carry out the sampling.

Connect air entrance (called “ingresso aria”) of your instrument to the sampling line (called “linea di campionamento”) complete with interceptor (called also “captatore” that is like mem-brane or tube or exct..) and switch on the instrument.

From the main menu, press PROVA FLUSSO (= FLOW TEST), and then choose if running the test of minimum and / or maximum FLOW:

** CHOOSE MENU **MEMORY SAMPLINGFLOW TEST PARAMETERSDATE / TIME

FLOW TESTMINIMUM FLOWMAXIMUM FLOW

Select MINIMUM or MAXIMUM FLOW, after having pressed the instrument would settle the valve, after which the suction pump would start…

After almost 30 seconds it will be displayed the result of the test indicating the minimum flow or maximum of your instrument in the conditions characterized by the sampling line.

13 PARAMETERS

From the main menu select PARAMETERS and it will appear the following:

** CHOOSE MENU **MEMORY SAMPLINGFLOW TEST PARAMETERSDATE / TIME

** PARAMETERS **SENSORS GSMCOEFF. VARIATION TIME

REGISTR.

The menu PARAMETERS allows to apply with different operations:

SENSORS: it allows the instant reading of the sensors, to verify the functioning.

GSM (OPTIONAL): it allows to set the telephone number of the SIM in the GSM.( to function it should be installed the GSM optional ).

VARIATION COEFFICIENT: it allows to vary the “coefficient variation %”.The coefficient variation is the difference between the theoric flow (settled) and the effective flow kept by the instrument ( see alarms menu chapter 16).

RECORDING TIME: it allows to vary the “recording time”.The recording time "does not affect the sampling, but determines how often you can record data in memory and then affects the calculations of the average values of the sampling. (A high value occupies less space in memory, but it is recommended to increase the “recording time "only when you make sampling of long duration).

14 DATE / TIMEThe menu DATE/TIME allows to modify date and time memorized in the sampler.

OPERATE LIKE THE FOLLOWINGFrom the main menu select “DATE / TIME” and it appears the following mask:

CURRENT 01/01/2008 14:59

Modification

In the mask it is shown current date and time. Select “Modification” and then digit and confirm with ( one by one ) day, month, year, time. At the end push the vertical button to mem-orize the new data.

15 PRINTING OF THE DATATo print the initial data, final data and the possible alarms of the sampling is necessary to start the printer (integrated) before proceeding with the programming. To print more data and man-age the different samplings it is necessary the ZIM software in optional version.

For more information contact the sales dept. or the technical assistance Zambelli.

16 ALARMSDuring the samples or in phase of programmation, in case of anomalies, the instrument could inform about alarms. Then it indicates the alarms, the causes and the eventual solutions to solve the problem on site.

In the event of alerts and / or persistent anomalies, and for any doubt or clarification, please contact technical support in Zambelli.

16.1 ALARM CHARGING PUMP ( EXCEEDING / NOT ENOUGH )The instrument could give two alarms of “charged pump”, the exceeding load or insufficient load. In both cases, after three (3) minutes of continuous alarm the sampling is interrupted, in the memory is recorded the alarm and, if it is enabled the GSM function(optional) it is sent a message via SMS to the SIM enabled

PUMP CHARGE INSUFFICIENT

** ALARM PUMP **

CHARGING PUMP INSUFFICENT

In case of “charging pump insufficient”:• Verify the correct pneumatic connection of the sampling line (quick connections, silicone tubes etc ...). • Check for leakage in the sampling line. • Check the correct positioning of the "flow switch" (16.7 / 38.3 lpm) • Check if the effective flow is higher than the theoric flow (settled), CV%
