• Perchè devo riavviare per patchare un componente che non ho mai usato?
• Quanto ci metto per riavviare? Dopo quanto il mio Servizio ridiventa operativo?
• L’imagine del Server è troppo grande…
• Immagini grandi richiedono tempo per Essere installate e configurate!
• Spostare immagini grandi impegna in maniera esagerata il network!
• Immagazzinare immagini grandi richiede troppo spazio!
• L’infrastruttura richiede molte risorse…
• Se il SO consuma meno risorse posso avere una maggior densità di VM!
• Un più alto numero di VM significa costi più bassi, maggior efficenza e margini più alti!

Nano Server è un «Installation Option» di Windows Server 2016, così come il Server core, però a differenza di quest’ultimo non è possibile selezionarlo durante il «Setup Wizard»

L’installazione dev’essere preparata e customizzata (Drivers e Ruoli…)
La cartella di installazione è collocata nel disco di installazione di Server 2016

Server 2016: Nano Server

Nano Server is "headless;" there is no local logon capability or graphical user interface.
Only 64-bit applications, tools, and agents are supported.
Nano Server cannot serve as an Active Directory Domain Controller.
Group Policy is not supported. However, you can use Desired State Configuration to apply settings at scale.
Nano Server cannot be configured to use a proxy server to access the internet.
NIC Teaming (specifically, load balancing and failover, or LBFO) is not supported.
System Center Configuration Manager and System Center Data Protection Manager are not supported.
The version of Windows PowerShell provided with Nano Server has important differences. (Core Powershell)

Software Assurance is requiredto deploy and operateNano Server in production!
Customers who choose the Nano Server installation option will opt into a
more active servicing model similar to the experience with Windows 10.
Specifically, these periodic releases are known as Current Branch for
Business (CBB) releases.
This approach supports customers who are moving at a “cloud cadence”
of rapid development lifecycles and wish to innovate more quickly. Since this type of servicing continues to provide new features and functionality.
