Pisa) a membro ordinario del Consiglio scientifico della sezione AIS “Teorie sociologiche e trasformazioni sociali”
Gentile Presidentessa De Nicola, gentile Presidentessa Rampazi, chiedo di accettare la
mia candidatura a membro ordinario del Consiglio scientifico della sezione dell’AIS “Teorie sociologiche e trasformazioni sociali”. Sulla base della mia esperienza italiana, tedesca e americana, ritengo di portare le mie competenze organizzative e scientifiche nell’ambito della teoria sociologica e della disciplina sociologica in generale. Come neo-direttore della rivista scientifica internazionale “Simmel Studies”, ritengo che il rilancio dello studio e della ricerca sui classici della sociologia sia fondamentale per il rilancio e l’identità della nostra disciplina, troppo spesso dispersa in mille rivoli particolaristici di ricerca. In particolare, vorrei proporre nel prossimo triennio una serie di convegni su Émile Durkheim (1858-1917), Georg Simmel (1858-1918) e Walter Benjamin (1892-1940).
Il convegno su Durkheim si terrà a Pisa nell’ottobre 2017 (anno in cui ricorre il centenario della morte dell’autore) e verrà co-organizzato da me e dal prof. Giovanni Paolucci (filosofo, del dipartimento di Civiltà e forme del sapere). Il tema del convegno sarà Identità, politica e strutture sociali. È prevista la partecipazione di Bruno Karsenti (EHESS Paris), Nicola Marcucci (New School for Social Research, NY), Francesco Callegaro (EHESS Paris), Steven Lukes (NYU), Anne Rawls (Bentley University), Ambrogio Santambrogio (Università di Perugia), tra gli altri. Durkheim è recentemente al centro di un nuovo interesse teorico ed empirico, che ha visto – tra l’altro – la recente pubblicazione della nuova edizione delle sue Lezioni di sociologia. Per una società politica giusta (Mimesis, 2016).
Il convegno su Simmel nel 2018 (altro centenario dalla morte dell’autore) invece verrà organizzato dalla rivista “Simmel Studies”, che dirigo insieme a Gregor Fitzi e Claudia Portioli. Vedrà la presenza di Otthein Rammstedt, curatore delle opere complete di Georg Simmel e alcuni degli studiosi che compongono l’editorial board internazionale della rivista (tra cui Austin Harrington, University of Leeds, Thomas Kemple, University of British Colombia.). Gli atti della conferenza saranno pubblicati con un doppio numero speciale della rivista “Simmel Studies” da me diretta.
Infine nel 2019 vorrei proporre un inedito (a mia conoscenza) convegno su “Walter Benjamin e le scienze sociali”. Walter Benjamin è un autore molto importante negli ultimi anni, che si trova nelle vette dei citazion index. La casa editrice Einaudi ha da tempo pubblicato le sue opere complete. Tuttavia manca una riflessione sul suo impatto nelle scienze sociali, dalla sociologia urbana, alla sociologia dell’arte e della cultura di massa, alla teoria dei media, fino al nesso tra religione e capitalismo. Questa conferenza verrà organizzata in collaborazione con l’Associazione italiana Walter Benjamin, diretta dal prof. Mauro Ponzi di Roma.
Come si può evincere dal mio curriculum allegato, ho organizzato numerosi simposi e conferenze da diversi anni ormai. Solo per citare le esperienze più recenti, sono stato Chair e co-chair della “Global Understanding Convention” alla Monmouth University,
USA (dove ho lavorato quattro anni), ho organizzato come Chair a Pisa nel 2014 il convegno internazionale “The Crisis in EU and USA”, questa estate sono stato direttore della “Summer School in Media Archaeology” (4-10 luglio 2016). Attualmente sto organizzando con i miei colleghi americani un convegno sugli espropri urbani dal titolo Eminent Domain and the City: Government Action, Private Rights, and Public Purpose, che si terrà il 9 e 10 febbraio 2017 presso Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ, USA. Come si può evincere da queste esperienze, i miei interessi di ricerca sono vasti, ma si incentrano su un numero relativamente limitato di autori e di temi: la storia della sociologia tedesca e francese classica e contemporanea (in particolare Simmel, Weber, Benjamin, Adorno, Bourdieu); la metropoli come luogo della modernità e della postmodernità (analizzata teoricamente ed empiricamente, con metodi etnografici); la cultura dei media, con particolare riguardo per l’influenza che questi hanno sulla costruzione della soggettività.
